Unfortinately, due to a error with an online dinner reservation that I made for the holidays, my reservation was cancelled the morning of the dinner. Most establishments would have simply moved on and left me feeling completely frustrated. Fortunately, that was not the case with Barcelona Wine Bar. David understood the situation I was in and took it upon himself to find a solution that really fit the situation! I have been a fan of Barcelona Wine Bar for the good food and wine. Perhaps I picked the wrong day to go to this place, based on all the other positive reviews I see on Yelp; however, my experience was pretty awful. I met two friends there, it was SO crowded...I felt like a Sardine packed in a tin can; we managed to find a spot at the bar, and everyone had to shout to be heard. Not a relaxing way to socialize and converse. The bartender was rather rude, and didn't really seem interested in helping us. The wine was terrible; the food was CRAZY expensive. I don't mind spending $$$ on food if it's delicious and a reasonable portion amount. However, the four different food dishes we ordered had meager servings. I was still hungry when I left this place, and had shelled out too much $$$ for what I got. Not a place I ever want to go back to. read more

I went here tonight at 7:15pm. The food was good. Portions were very very small. Prices were not bad, but since the food portions were so small, I feel it was overpriced. The place was packed, so I assumed it must be awesome, but I was disappointed. The service was friendly but slow. We had multiple waiters come by, but they seemed disorganized. One came by to light our table candle, but the wick was out. Instead of getting a new candle, he just left it dark. When it came to the food, they weren't sure who brought what and asked us if what food we did and didn't get. It wasn't a bad experience, just a disappointing one. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant as a treat from my guy on Sunday evening. A local, he had seen the place many a time and was waiting for the right time to stop in. My recent visit to the area, was just that. We attended and had the ultimate dining experience. Greeted by a team of waitstaff, Rachel and Todd (only 2 weeks on staff) were responsible for our table. They played well of one another, and made sure that we had nothing to ask for. Proactive service is always the way to go! the Manager, Jerin, even made her way to our table. She indulged us in the story behind the restaurant's brand and culture. Her hospitality exuded Barcelona's friendliness and reflected the culture in the greatest way! For appetizers we shared the Gambas al Ajillo, manager recommended, these were exquisite. And the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Parsley, even after the Shrimp was gone, made for a great dipping sauce for our bread. The (2) Spiced Beef Empanadas were also top of the line. For entrees, Jerin recommended he enjoy the Whole Roasted Branzino served with Autumn Squash, Arugula, a house favorite. And I indulged in the Paella Salvaje (Pork Belly, Chorizo, Morcilla). Both were choices not to be missed and sure to please the pallet. And to complement the food, you have to try the Red Sangria with Traditional Syrup, and the highly recommended Bourbon. Dessert was an escape to place of splendor, we tried it all... the churros, the flan, the crepas and more - 100% spectacular. They have something to delight a variety of taste buds, and not a single fail. When I tell you this place makes you fall in love, I mean it! The success of a restaurant is in part because he leadership is stellar. I can't say it enough that Jerin, does this well. She keeps her team motivated, their service strong, the excitement happening, and the mood light and easy! A fun place to be, and clearly to work. If only every restaurant had management like her. From the ambiance, the greeting, the food and drinks, the service, the atmosphere - you are in for a win! A place to remember, revisit, and recommend. I look forward to coming back to the area, in part because it's home to my NEW Favorite restaurant. Take a visit to Barcelona! I don't think I've ever written a Yelp review before but I specifically made the account and everything just because this restaurant honestly deserves all the 5-star reviews it can possibly get. My parents and I have eaten here numerous times throughout the past year. One of those times, we had a miscommunication between us and the server that, when combined with our hangriness, one can only imagine the dissatisfaction that ensued. But while pretty much any other restaurant would maybe offer a half-hearted apology at best, Barcelona went above and beyond to set everything right again. I have never seen such excellent service, appreciation for the customer, and genuine concern for each customer's individual experience at their restaurant. I know that this isn't a small, family-owned business, but they certainly have treated us with the benevolence and companionability of one. Definitely would give more than 5 stars if I could. read more

Called a week in advance for a reservation on at Saturday night for my boyfriends birthday for about 5-8 people. I wasn't quite set on the number. The person I set up the reservation was great, saying that he will have a table for 8 people, just in case. He also told me I could bring my own cake before hand. On that Saturday, I actually started running late. I called the restaurant to change times from 8:30 to 9:30. Once the table was ready, we were walked to our table. Five minutes later, our waiter that greeted us seemed like he couldn't have cared less why were there. He wasn't really interactive with us and honestly didn't provide the best service. After telling him we were here for my boyfriends birthday, he gave a look like "umm ok". I don't even know what his name is because he never told us. He talked so fast that I could barely understand what he was saying. Since it was our first time at this place, I asked our waiter what wine would he recommend. He was just like it depends on what you like. The answer was fine, but he never pointed out the fact there was another menu with a whole list of wines that were sold by bottle. Instead kept pointing out the small menu that had wine sold only by the glass. He must have been busy because he was slow at everything, filling our water glasses up to taking our orders. He was always rushing. Where he would be taking our order for tapas and then get distracted talking to another waiter about something else, then go back to listening what we were saying. Honestly if he was busy, he should have just gave us to a better waiter. One thing that really pissed me off was the fact that we ordered Paella. The waiter responded saying it takes 20-30 minutes to make and we RESPONDED "okay great, we are ordering that." As the night goes, we started wondering where our food was. After waiting for the waiter to finally show up, we asked where is our food. He responded saying you never told me the order. I responded "Yes we did" and he responded back saying "No you didn't." I would have immediately asked to talk to the manager at this point, but it was my boyfriends birthday and didn't want to make big scene. Instead I am writing a yelp review on the terrible service. In the end, would I come back? I happy I came here to try this place out, because in the future I will go somewhere else. Is this place worth visiting? Yes, visit once and then go somewhere else. The drinks were good and the meat/cheeses were excellent, but service in my book is a huge thing. If I can't receive service to celebrate a birthday when I set a reservation, then how is the service when no reservation is made. I definitely wouldn't recommend coming here for any celebration or with a big party. With other restaurants in the area, I would be more pressed to go there before coming back here. read more

This Tapas place is not for Vegetarians. I have tried some better Veg. Tapas at other places. Here we ordered Patatas Bravas, Spicy Eggplant caponata, Spinach-Chickpea cazuela, marinated portobellos mushrooms, Blistered shishito peppers tapas. they served bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar complimentary on side. Patatas Bravas and Shishito peppers were good. but other than that Spinach-chickpea Cazuela was cold and felt stale and smelly, marinated portobellos had too much balsamic vinegar making it super sour and spicy eggplants were more like oily eggplants and no spice at all - in fact it was more kind of sweet and sour. Really enjoyed our meal here last night. We chose a wonderful Rioja off their extensive wine list and enjoyed delicious bread with high quality olive oil to start. From the tapas menu we can recommend the broccollinni, and the chorizo with sweet and sour digs. Our favorite, though, were the beef empanadas...probably the best I have ever tasted north of the border, with an amazingly flaky crust and savory filling. read more

Amazing experience! I have a severe food allergy and always have to call ahead to make sure it is safe for me to eat there. Most places get annoyed serving you and don't take you seriously. It's a pain because I love food and don't want have any issues. Anyway, when I called the manager happened to answer and I explained my concernes and he gave me assurance that his staff could accommodate me. Upon our arrival he greeted and seated us and had already informed our server. It was so nice to not have to repeat myself five times. They provided me with a menu that had everything I needed to avoid marked out. Shortly after the head chef came over and introduced himself and informed us he was personally cooking for us and to eat with out fear. He even made us some off the menu items! He too has an allergy and understands my fear of trusting a stranger to make my meal. The food was sensational and the bartenders are phenomenal at custome cocktails. Went once a long while back and the food was good so decided to go again. Must have changed cooks. And waiters as well. Hard to decide which was worse. We had to keep reminding the waiter that we had more food coming. He brought the papas braves after we'd finished eating. Not great as dessert. But in fact the only decent dish we got. There were 4 of us and each of our orders had a problem. Spinach and chickpeas- horrible. Hamachi crudo- totally tasteless (no marinade, sauce, nothing!) and 4 pieces cost $12. An egg (breakfast tapa) which we had to remind the waiter to bring and by that time the egg was totally cooked and practically gone into the bread, and pancakes that had no honey-lavender sauce as promised. I met my girlfriends there on a busy Friday evening for girls night out. The server excellently advised us on the various Tapas dishes, and allowed us plenty of time to have a leisurely evening meal. All of the dishes we ordered came out quickly and were well prepared. I particularly enjoyed the preparation of the prawns and sea bass. I could have eaten the entire eggplant dish by myself and I am typically not a fan of eggplant. Everyone, from the hostess who took our reservation to our main server, demonstrated excellent customer service.. The atmosphere felt authentic with the planked wood walls, closeness of the tables, and the teamwork of the servers. We capped our meal off with cappuccinos and two of their fine chocolate desserts, the crepes were my favorite. What a great find this place is. read more

Went here for soft opening and I'm already a fan! Perfect addition to the RTC scene - great Sangria (I tried the red and the white - both were much more complex than your traditional sweet wine and fruit juices you get at other places), and we tried several tapas selections. My favorites were the hangar steak and the chorizo with figs - YUM! Service was attentive and knowledgeable (one of our servers had been with the company for several years and had assisted with multiple Barcelona openings around the country). You know those experiences when you wake up the next morning and you are still talking about it? This is what Barcelona offered my wife and I. We really enjoyed the ambiance. We sat outside on a warm late spring Friday evening, able to enjoy the energy of the RTC, people watching, residential excitement (a fire alarm dispatching a latter truck right in front of the restaurant) and a bustling restaurant. My wife and I love to kick-off our weekend with one-on-one time, as we are newly weds, of 25-years. We were really excited to see a nice Spanish restaurant closer to home (we reside in Ashburn), and the first opportunity we had to experience our night-out dining on Tapas, we seized to go to the RTC. We started out with a couple of white Sangria's, they were pricey, but Sangria usually carries a price. We were surprised when the drinks were brought to us in what looked to be a small water glass. The flavor was good, as you would expect with fruity wines, but there was no "punch"--not referencing the fruity punch. I tried to order a gin martini next, but they only carried 2-gin's, one I didn't know, and one I didn't like (Bombay). I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea, it was delivered in a small water glass also, but tasted very good. In the midst of drinking the Sangria, which did take a good 10-minutes to receive, a bread basket was provided with airy texture and crumbling crust bread. We finished all of the bread! We order 7 tapas between us, one was out, so we stuck with 6. I didn't write down the names, but I will describe the memorable ones. The broccoli sounded very good, the presentation of the petite boiled sprigs with a butter and garlic type sauce was unique. However, there must have been a pound of salt added to the dish. An exaggeration, yes, but my wife couldn't eat it, nor let it go. "Seasoning should boost the flavoring of a vegetable, as opposed to dominate the flavor. My blood pressure is going to sky rocket, and I dare not step on a scale in the morning given the water retention on the sodium level." It was WAY too salty, even for me, who loves salt. Picture--a small dish with tons of butter embodied into broccoli, someone taking a salt shaker, sprinkling salt onto the warm dish, and the top comes off mounding salt into the dish. The person doing everything possible to remove all of the excess salt, and then serving it. That is what it really tasted like. The Spinach I though was good, though not as memorable as the Broccoli. The Potato's I found to be really good. The duck was a multi-layered serving of delicious croutons with a sunny side-up egg overlaying the dish. There was one very small piece of duck. Exceptional taste, terrible value. The Mahi was very delicate, and probably the stand-out in our experience. The grilled calamari was heavily recommended by the waiter, but it was smothered in unseasoned butter. It was as though we ordered butter and it was textured with squid. We found the service to be friendly, slow, but professional. The tightness of seating must have been addressed, as I did not feel uncomfortably cramped. However, the tables were small, particularly for eating a multi-plate meal. In the end, my wife and I cherish our outings together, spending quality time together, and talking about the challenges in life. We have never sent a dish back, and we didn't at Barcelona. It would completely alter the mood of our evening, as opposed to just being a bad experience with food. However, as we woke-up this Saturday morning, we are still talking about Barcelona, and how disappointed we were in the food. If you are interested in a great environment with tasty drinks, this is a great place to go. If you're expectations are for good food and value, you are going to want to find an alternative to Barcelona. read more

Would not recommend this place. We had to wait 45 minutes past our "reservation" time. Person at front was rude (although, he probably felt he needed to be aggressive due to the restaurant's horrid policy of telling people they have reservations and then making them wait 45 minutes in the lobby--many customers where continuously checking in on the wait time). It was clear from their well-rehearsed line "sorry, we just have a lot of large parties tonight" and regular practice bringing sangria and apps by the wait area to appease hungry customers that they are accustomed to making customers wait. This ruined the experience for me and I will not return. Food was just okay. The octopus (pulpo) was the only dish above average. read more

I was surprised with a wonderful baby shower by my girlfriends at Barcelona last night, and we ordered from the party menu. They brought out more than enough tapas to feed 7 of us ladies for $35 each. Because of the special occasion, they also treated us by adding on 2 entree platters and 2 desserts for all of us to share. Needless to say, we were stuffed full of absolutely delicious food, were treated with wonderful service by the servers and management, and I am certain each of us will return due to a great experience at this restaurant. They even allowed my girlfriends to decorate our corner of the restaurant with a banner, flowers, and balloons. Thank you! read more

We always enjoy our meals here and the dishes change often enough that there is always something new to explore on the menu. Sunday brunch time brings a bloody Mary buffet selection; your server will bring you to the bloody Mary buffet and help you add toppings. I was astonished when they gave me a steep discount on the bloody Mary buffet for my virgin Mary base (vodka and I are not friends). Staff are always happy to have you do the "let's order these dishes and we can figure out if we want more later" routine that is wise for tapas. read more

I thought long and hard before writing this updated review. Although the food, ambiance are just too good to complain about, the service has gone downhill. This review is not based on just a couple of visits. Rather, it is based on a minimum of 10 visits since my first review. I keep going back hoping that it was just this last visit but I was wrong. There's a huge difference with service in the dining area and the bar area. When my wife and I sit in the dining room, we simply have no complains about the service. But at the bar, they lack the basic hospitality business training topped with an attitude from the late night manager. When I go there I'm a big spender and you'd think the bartenders or the manager would consider that but apparently not. I love their Tapas and I order plenty of them and end up taking the rest home. No bread, no napkins, no silverware, when food is served every single time. I mean, come on!! Then, the late night manager with "no management skills" would have the audacity to come outside around just midnight while smoking my cigarette with an attitude to tell me that I have 5 minutes to finish up my food and my X.O. Cognac they have just served me because they are closing. Are you serious?? I'm a restaurant and bar owner and when we have late customers we wait for them especially if they are spending the big bucks. This is what the hospitality business is all about. You are not a 9-5 job where you decide to kick people out when you just served them very expensive Cognac so you can catch last call at a near by bar with your friends. Again, the bar staff along with the night manager both need serious training regarding what the restaurant/ bar business is all about. read more

Barcelona is great - excellent service, really good food, but the portions are small, so the bill can add up quickly. The mussels were excellent, and the dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon were amazing; the salmon was really good, too. The hangar steak was excellent - tender meat, great quality; the flourless chocolate cake was very good - highly recommend it for dessert. We will definitely go back soon. read more
