If you're into 80s/90s games, arcade games, pinball machines, and console games both retro and current. Locate on the historical Main Street and with cool vibe. There's a bar in the middle of the room and surrounds by games and tables plus movies posters plus other on the walls. There is patios seating in the back for smokers. Games are cheap to play, a quarter or two and it was blast from the past. There're cocktails and snacks to purchase and you got to be 21yo to get in. That bar itself is decently sized with indoor and outdoor seating, is clean, and plays music that appeal to the money or crowd. Honestly, Barcode is one of my go-tos when it comes to recommending bars in Orange County. The retro neon sci-fi look of the bar with its displays of nerd culture through the decades, mixed with pockets of different old and new gaming options makes it easy to come back over and over and have a completely different experience. The themed cocktails are more than just "mai tai with a different name," which, as my mother and former bartender always told me: if you can make it at home, it's not worth getting at a bar. So it means that pretty much everything on their menu is fair game (but I do recommend trying out the Shoryuken or the Joker). And as far as bar food goes, I'm in love with the fried zucchini sticks and nacho fries. Someday maybe I'll even work up the courage to get friends to split the dumpster fire, and rave about that in a review too. read more

The fun LED lighting, figures and collectinles on display, and mix of console games and arcade cabinets are the perfect aesthetic combination. It's been about a few years since I last visited this place, and it looks like there's been some good updates to the business. The bartenders are super rad here, and are friendly and great at recommending drinks based on your preferences. I had one of the sweeter drinks (can't remember the name of it) and it was delicious! My friends and I were there on a Saturday night, and that place was popping! This bar has tons of old school retro games like Street Fighter lined against their walls all the way to the back room. It's a decent sized bar hangout spot with a few high top tables that fit about 6 people per table in the main area, and more casual hanging spots towards the back. There's also an outdoor area where you could smoke. They're located in Garden Grove's main street, and is a super cool spot for a chill hangout. It does like the machines are pay to play, but you can either get a wristband or a drink to play. They also offer some Nintendo Switches to play Mario Party too! read more

Love this concept so much! A bar with arcade games? Just be prepared to switch your money into quarters (or bring some) if you want to play these games. My friends and I shared the Dumpster Fire, which comes with Garlic Parm Tator Tots, Onion Rings, Mozzarella Sticks, and 10 Chicken Tenders! We chose the Lemon Pepper flavor and it was perfectly seasoned, not too powdery. One tip is to each the mozzarella sticks when it first comes out so it still has the stringy factor or else you'll just be eating a cold block of cheese (unless you like that haha). There are concept cocktails that were pretty interesting, but feel free to ask the bar for customized drinks too depending on whether or not they have the ingredients! This is a great place to come if you want a small place to hang and have a drink with your friends. There's an outside area with plenty of space and seating as long as you're there quick enough. They're friendly and even gave my friend a shot on the house after we already ordered a bunch of drinks. In order to play games, you have to buy a drink which is fair. This place is so fun and a great place to bring friends or a date (although it can get loud). parking is really easy to find in the back and I never really run into issues finding it. Barcode has been around for a few years and I've come here numerous times and have always had a great experience! From the outside patio with the fireplace during the winter to the numerous video game/arcade machines inside and the food and cocktails served at the bar, you can easily find a game to play and have a fun time! The bartenders here are pretty friendly and it's always nice being able to chat with them. The cocktails here are not too pricey and they all have nicknames tied with video games which is pretty cool. When I went there recently, I was ordering their flux capacitors quite often which is a gin & tonic with elderflower and blueberry. They stream movies at the front of the bar along with games like Super Smash Bros that you can play with your friends. They have all your typical arcade machines along the wall and pinball machines towards the back. They will also sometimes do local gaming tournaments here as well if you are interested. I've heard good things about the food here from my friends who've tried it before. They have a good assortment of bar food but their kitchen does close at 9:30pm as a heads up! I love coming here for all the retro games and the drinks and I enjoy the vibe here with all the people who pass on by! This is a great spot to check out and I high recommend coming here! read more

One of my favorite arcade bars to visit. They have many games such as Street fighter, Mortal Kombat, Pinball machine, Tetris and more. Most of the games takes quarters and if you don't have any you can ask any of the bartenders for change. All the times I have been here the bartenders have been really friendly and greets you when you arrive. The drinks are pretty affordable and their $9ish cocktails are pretty good. I had the Shoryuken! and the Hadouken! I would recommend both. I also had their tater tots and the chicken strips. The tater tots were better than the chicken strips. It was the texture of the chicken strips. The space inside is not too big, but they do have seating and tables. This place does get packed so I would recommend coming when they open. If it's too crowded inside they have a patio with seating. They also have a TV that is usually playing a movie if you are not playing any games. I do love how this place is decorated in the inside, the lights and the collectible figures on displays definitely make you feel like you are in a retro arcade. Lastly, there is a parking lot, so no street parking is needed. read more

I am definitely coming back. Love the drinks (VALUE!) and company. We just sat at the bar and didn't play games to be honest. The service was sooo friendly and welcoming even when it got crowded. The community feels so open and nice--my parnter and I immediately knew we'd be back again to unwind from work. The drinks are delicious for cheaper cocktails compared to a lot of other places in a 6-mile radius. The 24 was my personal favorite, but the Flux was my partner's favorite. We also tried 4 other drinks and none of them let us down. The fries were crispy and a yummy bar snack! The ambiance was a little loud at first cause we didn't know what to expect, but we quickly became comfortable. We definitely recommend sitting at the bar as the bartenders are super cool and kind, and very attentive. They listened to what kind of drinks we wanted and anticipated what might work best for us next. SHOUT TO (MARCUS and the other?) the balder guys serving us drinks who we felt really connected to and welcomed by. They made our first visit (we moved from table to bar) super fun and exciting. Maybe it's because we live in walking distance, maybe it's the quality of the light bites and strong drinks, maybe it's the friendly & nerdy atmosphere, maybe it's all the fun games, maybe it's Maybelline (lol) -- it's actually all of the above reasons that my husband and I come here at least 2-3 times per month. Rich, the owner, will happily talk to you about comic books, show off his impressive display of figures at the bar, and chill with you if you're looking for some great conversation. We've been so lucky to become friends with him over time and he really makes us (and everyone) feel like family when you're there. I consider this a second or third "home away from home." Great spot and great atmosphere. Perhaps what I enjoy the most about this bar is the level of curation that is given to the spot. There are plenty of movie posters and memorabilia on the walls. It's a celebration of both the best blockbuster movies from the 80's and 90's, as well as fighting games. My personal favorite is at the entrance where there is a Mega Man mosaic made up entirely of floppy discs. This does cater to a much older crowd, and because of this, drinks are perfectly measured. You do taste the alcohol in their cocktails, but none of them are too stiff that it wouldn't please your average bar goer. If you're someone who can't handle their drinks, any of the cocktails are fine. Even though it is next to a college, this isn't really a "college" bar. If you are looking for something stronger, you can ask for more spring in your drinks, but I would honestly just recommend the beer selection. The choices are unique enough on the beer that you can choose your level of how much you want a punch. Notice that I haven't even mentioned anything about video games. As a fighting game player since the 90's, this is the main attraction for me. There are multiple setups throughout the bar to cater to your interest. A lot of the space around the main area is console gaming. You'll see a Nintendo Switch setup, as well as various mini-consoles that have been modded. Everything plays as well as it should, but it's the arcade that is really of note. There are old-school candy cabs and modern vewlix machines out on the floor. These are *NOT* the way more of the Americans experienced these games in the 90's, but more in line with Japanese arcades with Japanese parts. The "canonical" Capcom games are all there: Third Strike, Super Turbo, Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2. If you're looking to play, I'm generally someone who will play any game. (Vampire Savior, also known as Darkstalkers 3, is my personal favorite.) That being said: if you're all about Third Strike, this is the spot to go. The arcade is "old school." It is the last true American arcade experience next to probably 82 on the West Coast, but they're catering towards different audiences. (82 is more of the "golden age" of arcades in the 70's and 80's. Barcode is more 90's.) You put your quarter down if you want everyone to know "you got next." Having lived through it, this is how it went in the late 90's American arcade scene. Everything is a quarter (which is beyond reasonable for the experience you're getting) to play on a legit Third Strike board with premium, well kept levers and buttons. There are no leverless, no macros, no pads - you either learn to play on the cab, invest your quarter, and outplay the opponent to their face. I can't stress that this is dying part of our culture, and I'm glad there's still one final place for this kind of experience. The staff is all very friendly. Richard, the owner, is more than willing to help you if you're having an issue. Recent EVO Hall of Famer Alex Valle works there, and is more than willing to talk to you about Street Fighter, the state of fighting games, and life. Dre, Kenny, and Anthony are great bartenders who are attentive, lively and fun. I have enough of a rapport that they already know my order when I get to the door. All in all, if you're looking for a spot to grab a pint and experience a part of American Arcade culture and movie history, come down to Barcode. Tell them "Moon Jelly Kevin" sent ya. My only nitpick about the spot is that "Barcode" is too close in name to "Barcade." People might have a different understanding of what the spot is like just based on the name alone, but I assure you: they are two very different places and experiences. read more
