Aum Beer House is an Asian restaurant and bar in Garden Grove. It's located on the historic Main Street with parking in both the front and back. There are TVs throughout the restaurant playing a variety of sports games. AHI TUNA TARTARE ($15.75) - the dish only came with three chips for the entire dish which was crazy to us. Also, the seaweed salad was an interesting addition. We were not fans of this. 2/5 FRENCH FRIES ($8.40) - they have different seasonings and we chose the Cajun one. We liked that they were skinny fries and they were addicting. I especially liked the spicy aioli dipping sauce. 4.5/5 GARLIC NOODLES SHRIMP ($23.10) - we thought it could've been saltier and used more garlic. The shrimp add-on was $12.60 which was not really worth for 5 pieces of shrimp. They were big pieces of shrimp though although not the easiest to peel. 2.5/5 ANGUS BEEF RIBEYE ($50) - this was cooked well and had good flavor. It came with mushrooms, asparagus, and a dipping sauce that we didn't care for. We would've liked some flaky sea salt on top to add more savoriness. 4/5 For drinks, the aum fashioned ($16) was a standard old fashioned and the heart shaker ($13) was pretty good. They have happy hour 3-7pm Monday to Thursday but unfortunately not on Fridays or the weekend. It's a little alarming that my favorite dish was the fries. Five stars for their anniversary specials! My friend and I were looking for a place to hang out with a drink after dinner on a random Tuesday night. Aum was open and in a super cute part of town. Decor was a modern Asian vibe and staff was friendly. We sat at the bar and enjoyed several glasses of the $5 wine. The pours were generous too. The name and the vibe didn't seem to match. They have some happy hour drinks available after 7 PM, so I grabbed a glass of sangria for $5 and a plate of garlic fries for $10.50. Went here for the homie's bday. It's a modern-rustic looking pub serving up some nice Asian fusion dishes. Most of my friends got the Ribeyes, which they said they really enjoyed. My friend was visiting from Seattle and was looking up places to take her since I'm not very familiar with the OC night life/scenery. So glad I took her here, it's a cute bar right in the middle of Main Street! They've got plenty of street parking and the parking lot in the back. Plays good music, good vibes. My friend spilled her freshly made espresso martini down my leg (yes the entire drink was full). The bartender made her a new one right away, which I very much appreciated. Loved the vibe of Aum because it was as loud and fun as being at the club but you can order food and have your own space. Went in on a Tuesday, an hour just after opening and we were seated quickly and warmly. Plenty of seating and clean. Service was great! I would have loved to try their cocktails but ended up just ordering a matcha cream coffee. It was a Vietnamese coffee base with matcha cream on top. It wasn't too bad, 4/5! My other party members had the strawberry cream coffee and she really liked it. My other member had two cocktails, the Mezcal Matioso and the Spicy Daisy. He enjoyed both thoroughly. For food, we got the chips and salsa (3/5), garlic noodles with steak (3.5/5) and honey sriracha wings (3.5/5). If I was tipsy/drunk, these foods would have definitely hit but overall they were okay. The garlic noodles were good though! The flavor and texture were nice, but the steak was too peppery for my tasting and it was okay. When I gave some garlic noodles to my other party member to share, there was a piece of hair in it....we don't like making a big deal when it comes to these things, and we didn't notify the staff. Aum is better known for being a lively Vietnamese bar/lounge to hang out with and drink with friends at night BUT I'm here to talk about their food. It's always so empty when I show up for weekend lunch and it's a shame because their food is amazing. They serve traditional Vietnamese foods, but with an elevated and modern twist. And they have other delicious Asian fusion dishes on the menu. My go to is the shrimp and crab udon (banh canh cua) that is served pot pie style with a golden and buttery crust sealing the noodle soup inside. It makes for such a delicious experience to crack open the crust to reveal the steaming soup inside. The breakfast skillet (banh mi chao) is probably one of the more popular menu items and rightfully so. The savory flavor from the meat drippings and pate all blend so nicely with the egg and tomatoes. The mini baguettes the dish comes with are so cute and both crusty and fluffy; perfect for soaking up all of the sauce. I've also tried and enjoyed snow crab meat salad with crispy rice. It's a large appetizer for $16! The salmon in red curry sauce is a delicious Thai influenced dish if you aren't craving Vietnamese food. The menu is quite vast and has a lot of food and drink options to please any party. Came here before a concert event at the garden grove amphitheater. The pictures and cocktails looks good on the picture. I am giving this place 2.5 stars since the food was good tasting. Food is not 3 star because the Hainan dish was misleading. Service alone is less than 1 star. Service was very inattentive. They were putting the plates and utensils for all the empty tables and they didn't even bother giving us plates and utensils. We ended up grabbing the set next to us. They didn't get my order right and it was t even a busy night. Most the servers were standing around. We ordered the Philly cheese steak eggrolls, birria queso tacos, hainan rice and shredded chicken, garlic pasta with mushroom, and clams and chorizo and loaded fries. The appetizers were good. The hainan chicken was Misrepresentation because it's goi ga salad with white rice nothing hainan chicken about it. The clams were basic and the noodles were lackluster. Wow I'm surprised they're able to replicate the famous garlic shrimps that I always crave in Hawaii. This will definitely be one of my go to spots. Love the flavors and ambience here. First of all, I just want to say that service here is not that great, but the food made up for it. Upon entering, no one is there to greet you, you basically have to walk in yourself and try to get the attention of a staff member. If you're going to the bar that's cool, but looking for a place to sit down for your party is a different story. The menu is online via QR code. The menu was annoying as they had certain menus for appetizers/lunch/dinner/drinks and I felt it could be confusing. We ended up getting drinks and an entree each and fries to share. The Sunny Days drinks was one of my favorites. It was refreshing, crisp and exactly what I needed to whine down on a weekend afternoon. We got a chicken with fried rice plate, and garlic noodles with steak. The chicken was roasted to perfection. The skin was crispy, the inside flavorful and moist. The fried rice was a combination of sweet and savory, definitely my favorite meal. The garlic noodle and steak was only decent to me. As I felt the steak was dry, and garlic noodles didn't have much garlic flavor and overly oily. We never got our truffle fries and when we mentioned, they stated that theres a chance they wouldn't even make it for us since it's now past the lunch menu time. We had to let them know that we indeed ordered during lunch time and they said they'll see what they can do. Instead of asking us if we wanted them still, they brought it out to us after we were already done with our meals and drinks. It was a smart way, got us ordering another round of drinks just to have with our fries. I wanted the butterfly pea coffee, but they ran out. I asked for the purple yam coffee...they also ran out. I just stuck with the hazelnut coffee. Unfortunately I don't think it was "Vietnamese" enough for me as it tasted mostly like hazelnut milk. The fries weren't very truffly as well. I love that they have lots of really great cocktails. My favorite drinks here include the Gummy Bear and First Kiss. Both are sweet and delicious. But if you don't want a cocktail they have a full wine and beer menu. They even have different types of sake and soju. And if you prefer no alcohol then they even have boba drinks. Yes, they have it all. The food menu is also great. Lots of appetizers and full entrees. Oh and they have happy hour specials Monday-Thursday from 4pm-7pm. The pricing is pretty reasonable and affordable. The staff is really nice. We did have to wait a little to get our items but everything was good. The inside has a full bar and lots of places to sit and eat. It's great for small intimate parties or large groups. On the weekends they have a DJ. I love the music they play here. Went in after a concert at the amphitheater on a Saturday and it was crowded. For our group of 7, we were seated at the outdoor patio with the fire pits. Server greeted us, took our order of appetizers to start, and said she'll return to turn on the firepit. Appetizers came: philly cheesesteak eggrolls (5 half egg roll sized pieces), chips and salsa (which was sweet), birria tacos (2 per order), and ahi tuna. The portions were too tiny to split. Which was fine because they didn't even give us plates/utensils/napkins. Food was mediocre and unfortunately the cocktails were worse and sent back. Came here with a big party for a friend's birthday reservation. We were seated right away around 7 pm on a Friday night and the crowd didn't start to pack in until later in the night. Our table shared a few things: Garlic Noodles, Angus Beef Ribeye, Buffalo Hot Wings, and a Fresh Soju Tower. The food was as expected, nothing crazy. The most disappointing part was giving the restaurant a call a day ahead asking if we can bring in our own alcohol for a price, ultimately confirming with two people that it would be $50 extra. We come in the next day for the servers to say it's not a thing that they do. If we knew this, we would've gone somewhere else :/ Wish the communication with staff/manager was more clear because I'm not sure how we got confirmation on the phone from two people just to be denied. One of the servers tried to accommodate after, which we appreciate but it was an inconvenience for both parties. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We ordered the fries and it looked like they just dumped cold cheese on top--no effort at all. I got the tuna tartare, and it was so chunky. Tuna tartare is supposed to be finely chopped or mashed, not big pieces. It was not good. The service was just as bad. The first guy (Hispanic, not sure of his name) was nice, but overwhelmed. I asked him for a drink and never got it. Later, a short, skinny Asian girl started helping us--again, don't know her name, but she looked like she hated being there. I had to ask her if we could place our order, and when I did, she only took mine and walked away. I had to call her back to take my boyfriend's order and she just said "oh yeah, I forgot." That was weird. Nobody ever checked on us. After we were done eating, they completely forgot about us. We had to get up and go ask to pay. This place is so spacious with many TVs for today's Sunday football. I'm surprised the bar didn't have more people. The parkings are easy to find on the street too. Sadly, many items on the menu have been discontinued. I do not see wonton soup, soft shell crabs, or any chasiu, pork belly dishes. Those would have been better than current options.
