The chalkboard sign was calling...burgers.......burgers....."Best Burger in San Diego". Now remember, my standards are high - we have Zin in Tucson.....hard to beat. I accepted the challenge. We found a spot at a high top. Was uncomfortable but the place was packed and that's all there was (no one's fault). The menu is a brown piece of paper folded up on a small clip board. Cool, totally cool! Why do I fall for these things.....? The burger menu was seriously fun! Lot's of great choices. I was really impressed. Very expensive but if you know a good burger, it's all good if it rocks. The sides are separate and we had onion rings which were greasy, and nothing special at all, sort of reminded me of frozen. Two us shared the basic and added avocado (big enough for the both of us, easy). Another had the Sheila's Cracked (fried egg on top). Both were awesome!!!!! BUT......wait for it....not as good as Zin and therefore, not really worth the price in my humble opinion. It was really, really, really loud. Did I mention it was loud? Like seriously loud. And it wasn't late, it was like 5pm. Shouldn't be so loud......or maybe I am just too old...... Regardless. It was OK. And I do think if you have the comparisons that I do, (Zin), it's hard to live up to. Will I be back? Ummmmm, maybe, especially because our house is like down the street. read more

OMG, the lamb burger was excellant! Their organic, fresh pub food really came through in the flavors. We came here because I was told the Lamb burger was the way to go and had to try it. Lamb burger on sourdough bread with three cheese spread, wilted spinach, & chipotle caramelized onions. I usually have beef burgers and don't really consider lamb or turkey but it was delicious. Went with my daughter for lunch after yelp reviews. It was a little corner restaurant with open windows so we had a nice breeze. Our server was super sweet. We shared a burger and ordered the large sweet potato fries on the side and had plenty to eat. The wasabi mayonnaise is yummy with the fries! Burger was also very good! My husband and I have the unique perspective of just having returned from a trip to New Zealand, where we also discovered the AMAZING Fergburger burger shack in Queenstown that this restaurant is based on. We were so excited to hear of the existence of Bare Back Grill when we returned home to San Diego, and were excited to get a Fergburger fix locally. We were sadly disappointed in our burgers -- they are NOT like Fergburger at all. Way smaller and seemed to be missing any flavor in the burger itself. Sadly, we'll not be returning here, and will just have to wait for another trip to New Zealand to get a REAL Fergburger fix. Pros: -fun NZ decor on the walls, including pictures of the real Fergburger -groupon made it a good deal Cons: -small and tasteless burgers, compared to the real Fergburger -small restaurant so it's always crowded -the "please seat yourself" strategy doesn't work when the place is so crowded and people are waiting outside. It also doesn't work when waiters don't notice that new people have sat down and take forever to get your order. -loud music playing, so hard to hold a conversation -trying to find parking on the nearby PB streets is annoying and difficult (not really the fault of the restaurant, just a comment on location) -they "ran out" of both root beer and Grenadine for our drinks while we were there. Seem like pretty basic staples to keep in stock. Summary: You can get a better burger with better service elsewhere in a less annoying location. If you ever find yourself in Queenstown, make sure to go to the real Fergburger!! 5 stars there! read more

Loved this place! The food is pub food with a unique twist and very tasty. The service is great, despite how chaotic it is, because every one of the waitstaff work all of the tables and they're all nice guys. We didn't have to wait very long for our food or refills. The seating is a bit iffy because you just sit wherever you fit, but there's outside seating as well. It's also quite loud, but it adds to the experience. read more

Awesome rotating beer selection, lots of brews that I haven't seen before. The flights are a must so that you can try as many as possible! I went on Google and looked up thier menu ordered a chicken sandwich to go it said 8.99 I added cheese he said 1.00 more so then I asked about fries 4.99?? Lol I said nah just give me the sandwich thinking 10.00 is enough for a chicken sand... get there and my bill was 15.00 for just a sandwich?? And the fries are heavenly - a sweet and salty flavor with a dipping sauce that is absolutely drool worthy. Best burger in PB for sure. I mean come on, where else can you get a burger with Brie or Edam cheese. All organic lean beef so you don't feel quite as guilty about slamming a burger. They have great specials every day, and all of the servers are hot. I don't even know why I'm advertising for this place because enough people know about it already and I hate waiting for a table. There is nothing wrong about Bare Back Grill. The burgers are best in town, other sandwiches are tasty, and the appetizers are great with their draft beer. I do think it is a bit expensive, but if you go for Happy Hour it is a pretty good deal. read more

On a Lazy Monday evening in the mood for a burger, we decided to give this place a try. I had read all the great reviews on Yelp so we headed out. First it is a small place (Be prepared for a wait). I was thinking it was yet another one of the massive turn the table over PB beer joints, Boy was I wrong. It is a cool hip small New Zealand bar. The people are super friendly, our waitress help us out immensely. First $10 pitchers of their house unfiltered ale, what a deal. We tried the Buffalo chicken tenders. While the size of the order for 8 buck's was a little on the small size, the tangy almost catsup like BBQ sauce was very nice. We also went with her suggestion for the 3 different sliders, and fries. I should have stuck to my instincts and went with one of the signature burgers. For me the buns on the slider were a little over whelming for the size of the burger. Don't get us wrong they tasted good, but kind of took away from the burger, which almost all the reviews rave about. Will I go back, yes defiantly before heading back to the Valley of the Sun, but I will stick to a regular burger, and add the combo calamari, fries, and onion rings. If I could go 3 and a half I would have, hopefully next time I can upgrade them to 4 stars. read more

My friends and I came to this location on a Sunday and had a great time with their, "Beat The Clock Mimosas." However, I recently attended with friends on St. Paddys day (a Sunday) and the waitress informs us that they no longer have the special. It says on the menu that it was offered on the weekend so every Saturday and Sunday the special should apply. I am in the marketing field and know all too well that unless there is an asterisk with fine print saying exclusions may apply, they can't not offer what publicized on their menu/website; a false advertisement issue. We told the waitress that we were leaving to go another venue, and she was very rude. Said a smart remark and walked away. So if you want over priced food, rude service, false advertisement border linning a bait and switch routine, by all means attend this fine establishment. read more

The food was good the service was not. We waited 20 mins before the waiter came to our table. When our food came about 40 min after ordering, it was cold. The burger still tasted great cold, I just imagine how good it could have been had the burger been warmer. I go here at least three times a month. The food is delicious! My favorites include the lamb burger, the chicken tenders, the ahi burger and the wake n bake burger. Then there is the mule menu! After tasting over 20 burger joints in SD, this is simply the best. I don't care if it is organic or imported, but it is simply great quality and taste. The meat, the cheese, the fries (thin sliced and crispy properly salted and with a tad of sugar) and specially their wasabi mayo, simply awesome! If I really must criticize something, I would say that the bread is a bit too thick. But then again, to hold all that goodness maybe it has to be. My favorite is the Maui Wawi, Hawaiian style .
