I ate at this restaurant for the first time last night and made my own burger and it was $17!!!!! The turkey burger was very thin with no taste and the special sauce had no taste along it the sauteed onions. I also ordered the sprout slaw and it had no taste. For two people with no wine my bill came to $60 with tip, unreal. I left hungry and with a bare wallet. I would rather have gone to a nice restaurant for a $17 burger that included a side. The staff was unimpressive and the restaurant was too bright. I am unsure why they charge such high prices for such a poor experience. I make good money but I can not justify this amount for such tasteless food. I will support a non-franchise business in the neighborhood that gives me a lot more value for my money and where they appreciate my business with great food. read more

I've come here with friends a couple of times after work. The prime reason why we come here is because one of my friends is a vegetarian and Bareburger has a lot of great options for him. While I truly appreciate Bareburger's mission to serve organic and all natural ingredients, they seem to skimp a little on the toppings. In my opinion, toppings can truly make or break a burger. The last time I was here, I ordered "The Supreme" having recently discovered how much I love caramelized onions on burgers. To my disappointment, there were so few onions on this burger that I cold barely taste them. I previously had ordered the "El Matador", and the toppings situation was slightly better. I won't completely discount this place because it's not BAD and my vegetarian friend seems to love it, I just would love a more generous amount of toppings to prevent my burger from being boring! read more

I would have likely passed this place up as just another burger joint but the fact that they use local farms for their source of ingredients pulled me in. I am so glad - I had one of the vegan burgers and a root beer float (their own version of root beer). That was so incredibly good from the sprouted roll to the hand made vegan patty that I had to try their Bison burger. The bison burger was even better with the brioche bun and toppings. While most burger places make one feel heavy after eating, the food here makes one feel healthy. I will be back to this place again. read more

I wanted to try Bareburger ever since I visited a food festival in Times Square over the summer. I heard they served all Organic burgers, which immediately attracted me to them. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Mediterranean Burger with a side of fries and it looked so good. Except, when I picked it up, the bottom of the bun was dripping in oil and my plate was also soaked in oil. I ended up throwing out the bottom of my burger and barely eating the rest. From what I ate, the burger was fresh and good. However, I am slightly disappointed that my take out burger was soaked in oil. I may try it again and eat in the restaurant this time so that if this happens I can request another burger. read more

I'm sorry to say, this location is more of the fast-foodie type, where they just plop everything together and bring everything out. Speaking to this Bareburger directly, I don't why. I don't know who. I don' know when but why did you stop serving warm grilled chicken? Yesterday I ordered a guapo chop and it was groooooss. I usually order salad with grilled lemon chicken and in most places, the chicken is warm, moist, crispy and super flavorful. For some reason, you guys stopped making it that way and yesterday my chicken was cold, blubbery and flavorless. The salad was stale, the guac was brown and the veggies tasted of refrigerator. There are far better Bareburger locations than this one. Terrible. Pickle chips came ice cold soggy half portion and inedible no sauce. Burger not supposed to be rare came borderline raw. My pregnant wife almost ate it. I thought I had a favorite burger place but after having Bareburger there's just no turning back. Literally one of the best and biggest burgers I have ever had. So far, I've tried the Southern (w/ beef) and the Roadhouse (w/ bison) and both were super juicy and delicious. The burgers are pricey but so worth it! I would also suggest the sweet potato fries + onion ring combo (huge portion for 2) and not greasy! There were also special sauces - curry ketchup, smokehouse, and a special sauce. You will get stuffed pretty quickly so pace yourself (you can swap out your bun for a lettuce bed too!) What happened here? Why all the hype? Does anyone actually crave elk? My husband and I went last night to just have a regular American burger. Fries and rings, too. Terrible. Salty, very SALTY, inedible salty rings and fries. The burger, disappeared under a mix of stuff and was served on a bun with black sesame seeds on top. Tiny meat, small everything else. I loved Bareburger and would order there at least thrice a week, but lately their delivery has been less than satisfactory. The past two times, my medium burger has come well done or very medium well. The burger tasted funny this last time. As well, I had a few burnt fries and my soda was so shaken up, it exploded onto my couch. The delivery was on time, but the food was not the normal quality. 2 stars because our waitress was nice and is also the only waitress here serving a packed place on a Monday night. The turkey burger wasn't good- it's a mixture of white meat and dark meat which they don't tell you before hand. I got "aged cheddar" on mine and it was a mush of unrecognizable cheese and was certainly nothing like cheese. When I asked for avocado on my burger it also wasn't there and when they brought me a side of it there was maybe 1 sliver of avocado. I have ordered here many times via seamless, almost always when I'm hungover, and they have without exception always delivered one of the most delicious burgers I have had while in NYC. Yes, I realize that this is quite the strong statement. I'm from Texas, people! Texas people know meat. Quite honestly, I even like BareBurger's burgers more than I like the $20 dollar variety at other more hoity-toity chef-centric establishments serving lunch. My favorite item on the menu would be the bareburger sliders (beef, although elk, bison, and ostrich are also available) sans jack cheese, dill pickle relish, grilled onions, grape tomato and bareburger special sauce. Aren't those buzzwords just to keep PETA placated or something? Sure, I want my meat to be as fresh and organic as possible, but these days it seems like those eco phrases are only used to justify higher pricing. I always go with menu oddities. What fun is it to eat the same things you can get anywhere? Here, they have wild boar, organic bison, ostrich, elk and other fine meats to choose for your burger. I went with the maple bacon cheeseburger with wild boar on a brioche roll, which added $1.45 or so to the bottom line. We split a basket of fries since they were on a daily special for $3. The burger was indeed delicious. All of the ingredients tasted fresh, but I felt that the boar meat took a backseat in terms of flavor. The meat was slightly bland, and a little dry, but it had a unique taste that certainly wasn't like ground beef. I wasn't crazy about the brioche roll. It's a little too waxy on top for my tastes, and it was too thick, so most of my mouthfuls had an disproportionate amount of bread in them. As a whole, however, it was a tasty burger, and I'd be likely to try eating here again when I'm in the city. read more

I went to BareBurger last night as I had a MASSIVE craving for a burger. I blame this on hearing everyone from the recent Brooklyn Elite event go on and on about some breakfast burger at Two 8 Two... Curse you all! The place is a lot more casual than I thought it would be. We sat in a booth and were greeted immediately by a cute hostess who asked us if we had ever been here before. Both shook our heads no. She then went on to explain how you choose your burger style then if you want 100% organic beef, chicken, bison, elk or even ostrich (!!) and the type of bun you want. That's pretty cool. I read somewhere though that people psychologically feel less happy if they have more decisions to choose from... I don't think they meant burger options! I got the classic burger with bison meat plus a chocolate milk shake and an order of fries to split. I asked for it medium rare; more often than not my burgers turn out medium. It happened again!! Boo. Oh well. The meat was tasty. I wish now though I had asked for cheddar cheese instead of the normal Colby that comes with the Classic. Colby jack just reminds me too much of cheap Mexican nachos at a pretend Tex-Mex place. I also wished I had gone with the brioche roll instead of the multigrain as it was a little try. The fries were really freaking good though... especially being dipped into organic ketchup! Long, crispy on the outside with skin on the ends and piping hot! Mmmmm. Trust me, a small order of them is enough for two people. As is the milkshake. The chocolate milkshake was very old school with actual ground up chocolate bits in it! So yummy. The portions of the shake and fries were big, considering they were "small!" I'd definitely recommend splitting those so you can indulge a little without feeling like a greased up fatty. For being an all-organic joint, the prices were not THAT bad. A 16 ounce beer was $4.75 and I know my burger was cheaper than those at 5 Napkin... and with more exotic meat *shushhhhh* If I'm in the area, I'll go back to BareBurger to give it another take but I don't think I would go here out of my way.... unless I get a weird craving to try ostrich meat. I love the concept of using 100% organic and free range products, as well as sustainable resources (energy, tables, etc). You see this often in San Francisco, and now living in New York I wished I had taken advantage of it. You can build your own burger at Bare, but there are also suggestions for combos. I had the Maui Wowie with beef and it was amazing. Our server educated us on all the other meats as well as the owner's concept and other locations. We were asking her all kinds of questions, and she was happy and patient with us, and not to mention extremely knowledgable. We also shared their beet and goat cheese salad, which was great. I had a refreshing "ginger brew" and my boyfriend had an AWESOME banana and pistachio milk shake. Sounds weird but i swear to god it was the best thing I've tasted in a while. I have been to bare burger twice (once in Astoria and once in Manhattan). Both experiences have been lacked luster. The service was horrible at both places. The waiter/waitress were extremely slow seem irritated by questions and were not responsive to our needs during the meal. It took us a while to order, get our check, and to ask for simple things like extra napkins. Both restaurants are crowded, noisy, and the tables are placed way too close together. I also thought it was pretty pricey for what it was and I couldn't believe they charged for sauces for the fries! They also only have organic soda which tasted like crap and wasn't worth the $5.00 I spent on it. Overall, I was not wowed by their burgers/food! I've clearly been living under a large, large, heavy rock. Well, now my dose of elk and/or bison and/or ostrich is within reach no matter my whereabouts in Manhattan. Get the fries that come with five dipping sauces. Curry ketchup is by far the best. Get your bison burger more on the rare side, it can easily go very wrong if cooked too long. Elk is amazing flavorful. Do not get the portabella (I was envisioning shake shack shroom, but this is pickled shroom). I like the restaurant concept a lot. Everything is pretty much organic...even the walls. No seriously, the bathroom walls are made of sustainable cork. The only thing they need to get on: getting organic cholula.
