I love a good burger, and finding a decent place that can do that is few and far between in the Danbury area. Five Guys in Brookfield is probably the best competition, but when I heard about Bareburger from a friend and them having a plethora of burger meats to choose from, I was sold. This was actually my second time coming here, but the first time dining in. A few weeks ago, four of us stopped by on a Saturday night to grub, but the 45 minute wait halted us otherwise. Depressed that we wouldn't be able to have a legitimate burger, we left crying as loud as possible. It was our fault however, we should've assumed any great restaurant (with a bar nonetheless) would be packed on the weekend. I did return for my annual review a few weeks later to finally sit down and eat a seriously good meal. I loved the interior. It's bar-like, but also very old fashioned/welcoming with the use of wood. It bode well with the idea of "You're going to eat a burger here? Well you're going to have the experience any farm animal may have, minus the hay." We were seated for lunch promptly and given menus to look over. Everything here is farm fresh, organic, and GMO free (which you can also read about on their website). I'm a fan of that because generally the food tastes significantly better, for a price, which even here wasn't that bad. Your burger choices by the way, range from a normal beef burger all the way to a wild boar burger. So yeah, they have quite the variety if you're interested. I opted with the Grindhouse Burger, which was essentially an elk burger with manchego, bacon, piquante relish, lettuce, paprika mayo, all on a brioche bun. The paprika mayo mixed with the burger was phenomenal and eliminated a lot of the gamey taste one might expect from elk meat. But in all honesty, even without the paprika mayo, the gamey taste wasn't totally overkill and I actually enjoyed it since it's a flavor I don't get to ingest that often. The bun was also fantastic, because we all know a bad burger bun is a no no. I didn't get a chance to try any of their beers or cocktails since I was still technically at work, but the list seemed pretty solid for the restaurant, meaning I'd come back for a drink if I was in the area. We have been here three times in the past month. If you are looking for a wide variety of burgers that are organic and healthy, then this is place for you. If you are looking for an ordinary bar burger, I suggest you try The Hideway down the road. Yes, it may be a bit pricey for a burger joint, but you certainly get what you pay for. The quality is second to none. The burgers are not greasy, the fries are fresh, the milk shakes are to die for and they have a nice selection of wine and beer. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. The selection is wide and varied, but that is what makes this place unique. My wife, who is a vegetarian, was somewhat reluctant to try a burger joint, but was pleasantly surprised to find at least two vegetarian burgers on the menu. As for the non-vegetarian options, in addition to traditional beef and turkey, there is also bison and elk, as well as some others. I actually had the elk, which the waitress described as very lean. I can not say enough about the pleasant wait staff at Bareburger. We went the other night and while it was busy, we had to wait for a half an hour. During that time. we had 2 or 3 servers come up to us and ask if we needed a drink or something while we were waiting. We got seated in 30 min. and had a most amazing burger and delicious beet and goat cheese salad. Our sides were crusted butter pickle chips and onion rings. Out-of -the -park yummy!!! We sat at the bar because there was a long wait for a table. The bartender was very friendly. We were here just this past Saturday night. My 11 y.o. son is the burger connoisseur in the family and he had already tried Prime Burger, so this is where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner. According to my son and stepson and husband, the burgers were great, among the best they've ever had. Previously, my husband and I agreed the best burgers we'd ever had were at Umami Burger in LA. But my husband clarified, Umami Burger is still the best when you evaluate just the burger part of the burger, whereas at Bareburger it was the total package -- burger + toppings -- that pushed it over the top for him. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich; it was good but not to die for. The fries and onion rings were very good. The guys all had shakes, which were super thick and very delicious, based on the few sips I stole from my son's. My husband had the Old Macdonald (bourbon + white peach puree + agave) and I would have drank it all if I hadn't already ordered a glass of sauv blanc. Our server started out strong but kind of fizzled out at the end, maybe because it was late and because he was busy chatting up his friends sitting a few tables over from us. I was thrilled to hear that there was one of these in CT as I loved the one in NYC...unfortunately, not like the one in the big city. I have been here a few times already and the service is just ok....but let's talk burger--first of all, where's the beef??? Remember those days???? Secondly, never cooked the way I like it--so why freakin ask me how I want it cooked??? I'm paying about $16 for a burger that requires very little cooking yet it takes 45 minutes to get to my table--and when it does, it's more like Well and could be used as a hockey puck at the local ice rink! Not worth the money and not worth the trip for us! Little Pub has better burgers...Corner Bistro in NYC is worth the trip...Louis' Lunch is closer in New Haven...yes, both are not organic, but they will be good and cook to your liking! I will admit tho, Bareburger offers great sweet potato croquettes as well as to-die-for Blueberry soda! Wish I could find that in the stores!! Service is poor, even when not busy! Very good burger. Decided to go classic and judge their traditional beef burger before experimenting. The burger is on the smaller side, but the side of fries was quite large. Good to share between two people Wife got the small cali fresh salad (which was actually pretty big) and it was good (if you enjoy healthy food). Also added the panko chicken with the salad. Holy $@/& the burger I got from here... unrealllll. So freakin good. Added a couple things to the burger from the unique and good-sized menu. Duck bacon? Duck pastrami? mmmmmm. Got a drink.. with bacon in it! Not the greatestttt but had to try it and love trying different things so happy it was on the menu and still happy I ordered it. Only problem... the cost. My burger came to $29 dollars. That didn't even include fries. The quality of the food and the taste were top notch, but I feel it makes it a place you can only visit once in a blue moon. I do still recommend it but maybe just for a once in a long while place to grab some good food, unless you're rich then go at it and enjoy the great food as much as you can! read more

Heaven on a plate! I absolutely love this place, and went tonight for the second time. Beef and cheddar on brioche with fries, simple and perfect. My burger was slightly underdone for medium but that did not stop me. My boyfriend had one of the designer burgers, also very good, with enormous onion rings. The place is fabulous inside, very cozy with lots of reclaimed wood. The staff is very friendly and we actually had the same waitress as the first time. Do yourself a favor and try it. read more

Too many changes for the worse. The menu keeps changing for some reason. There are now only 4 entree salads. The one I ordered was alarmingly small. In small-ish square bowl the size of a good sized cereal bowl. I asked if it were indeed the entree size. This was $12. My brother had a $14 hamburger with fatty thick stringy chewy slimey bacon with not the slightest crisp. It made me sick watching him eat it. Yes, it was a half pound of burger but 14 dollars and not a single thing on the side. He ordered a small salad on the side, which was nicely priced at $4. But now we're up to $19 for a burger and a side. The price of this place has never been a strong point since it opened. Who is this place for? Half the menu is vegan, which is highly admirable, but not many vegans I know will pay these prices. I eat a plant based diet, but I wasn't impressed with the menu. (Yes they have the Impossible and Beyond Burgers, but I would never eat such a thing.) Poorly managed too, it seems. We went in at 8:39 on a Sunday (Father's Day) and were greeted with "the kitchen closes in six minutes." Yet the hours clearly say they are open till 9 on a Sunday. So the waiter rushed us to order by his body language alone. My brother has MS and can hardly walk. He uses crutches. He headed to the bathroom upon entering so we lost our 6 minutes allotment right there. So he had no time at all to decide and look at the menu. The waiter was pleasant enough but he was obviously under orders from the high and mighty kitchen staff to get us to order by 8:45. None of this is fun or enjoyable, especially since it was my brothers first time. And now last. I live across the street, but I have no reason to return just for a small-ish, unappealing $12 salad. They need to put a larger plate under their little square salad bowl. It looked so lame just sitting there alone on the table. Size 6x6 at the largest. (Maybe even 5x5) That's a large? Granted, they did manage to get a good amount of baby greens in that thing, (larger greens wouldn't have fit) but what's the reason to go small like this? I can't be the only one who is surprised by this small size. Totally unattractive presentation. Sad that I now have one more uneventful restaurant in my town here. We really enjoyed the burgers here so we went back two days later and can't wait to come back with our kids and extended family. Without writing a book, the drinks are great, burgers were excellent and we were enticed to go back to try a few more items on the menu. My only issue is that I prefer very little dressing on my salad so next time I will order it on the side but I do want to try the one with artichokes and grapes again. Also, we had the same waiter each time and he was very attentive and made great recommendations. Excellent burger! I always order a beef burger with cheddar, stout onions, and avocado. I must say I do have a hard time finding a better burger anywhere else. The onion rings are good as well. Fries, just ok, they could be better. The people are always very nice and helpful. The only reason I have not given Bareburger five stars is the pricing. I honestly LOVE this place. Every time I have gone here I left feeling extremely full and very satisfied. The waitresses and employees are so nice and friendly, its refreshing. The atmosphere and decorations are really unique. They have a lot of cool beers and they come in CRAZY sizes. You can get a 32oz (I think) glass of beer, which is essentially a huge mug. I needed to lift it with two hands to drink it. Everything is organic, and all of the meats are grass fed. The menu has some really unique options like elk, bison, ostrich, and of course regular beef for the non adventurous folk like myself. I only got beef, but even that tasted so amazing. My boyfriend has tried bison and elk, and he really enjoyed his as well (he used to be a chef so he knows!). Also the milkshakes, I DREAM about. They are so delicious. This has become my go-to spot for business lunches when I'm in Ridgefield with a colleague, portfolio manager, winemaker, etc. and need a good spot for midday grub. All of the food is fresh, organic and relatively healthy. I love that they offer rarely found types of meat like elk, bison, wild boar - all delicious. Even their vegetarian options are great - I've had both their black bean burger and quinoa burger and they're both satisfying and incredibly tasty! I need to rave for a second about the onion rings. I think they use cornmeal because they taste... REAL... and not covered in fluffy breadcrumbs. Whatever seasoning they use is on point, legit top 5 best onion rings I've ever had. The sweet potato fries are solid as well. And lots of weird little delicious morsels that I always order - curry ketchup for dipping, sounds gross but holy hell its so tasty. The wasabi carrot slaw is refreshing and pleasantly spicy. Even their salads are yummy. The service has always been friendly, attentive and speedy to top it all off. I've been to Bareburger quite a few times, and every time I go it gets better and better. The premise is what drew me in the first time - nontraditional, organic burgers - but the quality of the food and the amazing staff amazed me as well. It's nice to have the option to build you own burger, but their original burger recipes always amaze me. I've tried many of them, and my favorite is the El Matador, paired with onion rings and their amazing dipping sauces. A few times, not knowing what I wanted, I went solely on the advice of the waitress - she gave me extensive descriptions of her favorites, and even had beer pairings for each suggestion. Some people are noting the high prices, but in my opinion it's worth it for the quality of the meal I'm getting. They also have an AMAZING beer selection and offer huge steins - you need two hands for the 32oz. Overall, it's a great place to go for a date, a gathering or just to grab something quick after work. Seriously how have I not grabbed a burger from this place in the last two years of living in Danbury, CT - we're practically neighbors! So I came here before attending a show at the Playhouse to grab a bite to eat since I've driven by hear at least half a dozen times. The place can fill up pretty quickly, but the cozy atmosphere brings you in, the food and service will bring you back. I am pretty sure everything on the menu is natural and organic (or at least close enough to it in my opinion). I grabbed a standard bacon burger cooked medium, and my taste buds left singing on the way to the Playhouse. This was easily one of the top 5 burgers I have ever had, and I have had A LOT of burgers with all of my travels. Cooked perfectly, the taste was fantastic, the lettuce was crisp, the onions were delicious, the tomato was ripe and the beef, bacon and cheese were just, just, I'm at a loss for words. Perfect. I will definitely be back again, the only disappointing aspect of this place is it is a little small and gets packed, so the wait can be quite long (so be prepared). Otherwise, these guys are great! I will be brining my girlfriend back to sample, if it meets her expectations, my 4 will become a 5! read more

The boar burger (boarger?) was unbeknownst to me mandated to be well done. It was tough, and too lean, but did have nice flavor to it. If I had known I would have gone for the beef. There's always something in hindsight when you're trying out that new place. If I was going to give advice to myself, I would say to have ordered that fried egg specifically over easy, and go for the grass fed beef. If I wanted something to be overcooked I could have saved a lot of money. Apparently they're about to change up the menu, as of tomorrow. There are interesting items on menu already, but with additions like duck-bacon, who knows what kinds of crazy combinations we can think up. I was most impressed with the service here, as others have noted. Quick, friendly, and well staffed with impeccable organization. Our very knowledgeable waitress typed in our custom-order burgers (on an iPad, awesome) and we got EXACTLY what we asked for. Bravo. In the end, it can't escape it's fast food look with a veil of gourmet ingredients and prices (for a burger place, at least.) It's a cozy, with great selections in drinks and sandwiches, with some of the best fries I've had. Bring your kids, your friends, your out of town friends, yuppies and grandma. TL;DR Build a unique burger, but the more you add to it the pricier it can get. Decent selections on beer and wine, with about one beer and one wine per unique style. Burgers, fries, great sodas, very causal, so great for kids. Vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian friendly. I did not see anything pesco/seafood savvy but you're safe with the veggie protein options. Music playlist is like someone stole a hipster's iPod and played the top listened to tracks in order. It's not pretentious, and I'll come back when it's convenient. read more

I am surprised to see any bad reviews about this place because I've been here multiple times and think it's the best Bareburger I've been to, and I've been to all of the NY locations. The service has always been great. Really friendly servers, who always check and see if I have food allergies so care can be taken with my food in the kitchen, and food always comes out pretty quickly. Before we went, we thought it looked reasonably priced. When we arrived, we learned that burgers don't come with sides. I'd say you end up paying about $20 for a burger with fries or rings.
