Wow! We stopped by about 20 minutes before closing as we were getting married the next day and had been running around all day sorting out last minute bits. SO GLAD WE DID!!! The waiter was incredibly kind. Offered our party recommendations and explanations with no hesitation, despite the close-to-closing time. The owner was the chef and despite being very busy filling orders, he took time to welcome us. They gave us cornbread to start. Delicious soft and fluffy. Yummy. I had the NY steak with garlic butter, fresh green beans and fingerling potatoes. It was superb. My partner had a rocket salad that made him very happy. And our guest enjoyed the herbed chicken. We had asked for a couple of substitutions which were not an issue at all. We were not rushed. We were treated like family. At the end of the night, I noticed the owner gave a man who was down-on-his-luck a couple of to go boxes filled with food. How lovely. Such love and compassion I rarely see. To top it off, the owner gave us a celebratory panna cotta. This heavenly cloud was sat upon a raspberry reduction which accentuated its creaminess. The perfect pairing. The room is open aired with large gorgeous windows and tables that allowed us to sit comfortably. The decor is tasteful and not over done. Given it sits so close to the street, I was pleasantly surprised at the negation of noise. The chef is at the top center of the room, conducting his magic for all to see. Be careful when you order takeout using their online menu. The prices are COMPLETELY different than their menu in person. I was shocked when I got the bill and my $16 sandwich was $23. That's a big difference. I let them know the difference and they should update their menu, they acknowledged that they already know. I enjoy the food here and the wait staff was very nice and usually they all are. This review is solely for the lack of transparency with their pricing. It's really not ok to have such a drastic contrast in price and advertise one thing but charge another. I hope they fix their menus so I can give further experiences better reviews. read more

We ate there our first morning of the trip for breakfast - the latte (oh my gosh - wow!) was incredible as was the homemade scone, omelet and chorizo scramble. We left not only overly pleased with our meal, but enthralled by the inviting staff and INCREDIBLE atmosphere of the cafe. When I say it's a hidden gem, it's true! We came back the next morning for breakfast and that evening for supper too (lamb and Gemelli - plus the bartender took the time to help us pair wine to our dishes and it was spot on)! This was truly the best dinner I ever had. For everybody who loves to have vegetables for dinner... Not just vegetarian's this harvest vegetable plate is amazing. It is coded in a sun-dried tomato sauce which makes it rich and thick. And all the vegetables are cooked perfectly I have never seen anything like it! I stopped in here for breakfast today, as I was in the mood for some good pancakes and Yelp reviews led me here. I'm not a pancake snob, but I haven't really been impressed with the cakes available in Sausalito, Mill Valley or Corte Madera. A Tuesday morning at just after 8:00, I was the only patron there, but that changed shortly. Ambiance was warm, servers were welcoming and polite. Breakfast/Lunch menu was more extensive than most breakfast places. I was here for some pancakes, so that was my focus. I decided on the Pear/Almond pancakes and went for the full 3-stack. They do give you the option of one, two or three cake stacks. I also ordered a side of pork link sausage. The pancakes were very fluffy, being somewhere around 1/2" to 5/8" thick each. However even being that thick they had a nice soft and light texture, while holding up to lots of pure maple syrup (I use a lot of syrup). The sliced pears were cooked perfectly with a very nice texture. The slivered almonds were a nice bonus. It was obvious the pears were meticulously placed (as shown in the photo) to make a nice presentation. The link sausage were thicker than many breakfast links and while not being greasy, they were still plenty moist. While not being the cheapest place for breakfast, once you see and taste the effort put into your meal, it's a good value and overall I was very impressed. I also asked to see the dinner menu and the selections all looked very good and quite reasonable. I will definitely be coming back when the pancake urge strikes, but I'll only order one pancake (they're very filling), so that I can enjoy all four links. I'll also be going back to try dinner very soon. read more

Went to Barefoot for brunch today and while I was initially impressed by the menu, in reality, the food was just meh, and service needs work and training. Overall, the experience was 3.5 stars. Not super special except for the teas, which are high quality, the fluffy pancakes, and the very delicious house potatoes. Well seasoned and soft yet a little crispy. The service was very slow and our waiter not very detailed. As should be custom, a waiter should inform its clientele what specials there are or what the restaurant is out of. We took about 15 minutes to order and when we finally settled on crab Benedict's, the waiter said he didn't have any crab. Seems like an important thing to note. I ordered a tea latte with oat milk and the waiter did not know what that was, which is not an issue, so I described it to him. He told me he would just bring me brewed tea and the steamed milk on the side. He brought out regular milk despite my asking for oat milk. Luckily, I realized the mistake before pouring it into my tea and ruining it, as I am lactose intolerant. He gave me attitude when I told him his mistake and asked if he could please bring me steamed oat milk. He also did not ask the other two people I was dining with what type of milk they wanted, or if regular was okay, and they got regular milk in their lattes. While it was their fault, the waiter had an attitude about it. My group ordered the pancakes with eggs and bacon, chilaquiles verdes, and tomatillo scramble. As I mentioned above, the pancakes were fully and eggs were cooked perfectly. But the chilaquiles and scramble were not only not great, but they also were not real chilaquiles and the scramble was basically a scramble of tortillas with eggs and green chile strips. Could not taste the tomatillo or salsa. The tortillas they use are Guerrero, which have a very distinctive and bad taste. The tortillas for the chilaquiles were not crispy like they should be, but soft and mushy. They also were not bathed in salsa like they should be. Overall, it's very clear this restaurant despite having Latinx staff and various Latinx dishes, creates Mexican dishes that are extremely whitewashed and catered to white people. Also, the outdoor picnic tables are very uncomfortable as the bench width is narrow. read more

Do not trust the prices here on yelp. I called for pickup/to go. The eggs brady (benedict). I asked to sub steamed spinach for the potatoes and LIGHT on the sauce. And now that I dig in? Its not even hot! The steamed spinach and the sauce are cool to the touch. Not even warm! Unbelievable. If i weren't starving Id return it right now and demand a refund. I should have gotten all of the information over the phone, cancelled and gone elsewhere. Came here for breakfast recently, because judging by the Yelp reviews it was our best option in Fairfax. Didn't feeling like driving to San Rafael or beyond so early in the morning, and overall the Barefoot Cafe was a great breakfast choice. Lots of delicious sounding options! I settled on the Barefoot Breakfast Special w/ an upgrade to blueberry pancakes. The food was a solid 5 stars but on the bill I was charged an extra $4 to upgrade the pancakes from plain to blueberry while if I had just got pancakes, not the breakfast special, they are only $1 more. Perhaps I should have asked at the time of ordering but for $4 I could have gone to Fairfax Market and got a whole box of blueberries. My dining partner enjoyed his omelet. My bad I forgot which one he ordered. Portion sizes were perfect, and we left very satisfied. Coffee is decent, I had decaf, he had regular. The creamer comes in an adorable little cup thing vs being the lousy prepackaged creamers that you'll find in many places. A few other reviews mention cleanliness... Not sure if the other reviews are bringing magnifying glasses to their food outings or if the Barefoot Cafe just listened to feedback and dusted thoroughly but it was spotless from our perspective. I specifically went here because, 30 years ago, this space was occupied by a restaurant (Spanky's) that my family always used to go to. In fact, when I tripped over my feet at the Bank of America up the streets and broke my wrist, my parents took me to Spanky's to hold a milkshake against said wrist. Well, Spanky's is no more and hasn't been for decades, but I had the pleasure to eat breakfast at Barefoot and it was wonderful. We had no idea we were in for one of the best dining experiences either of us can ever remember. The first great impression was our waiter, Tyrone. He's sincerely friendly, has a fine sense of humor--and is a total professional. His descriptions of the wines we were interested in were exactly how they tasted and he gave each of us a taste of the other's choice so we could note the differences. Then came the next great moment: dinner. We ordered a salad of organic greens and one of the specials, a scallop risotto, both to be shared. We were initially surprised when Tyrone enthusiastically agreed with our combination and didn't recommend another dish, but when they arrived, we understood why: the portions were double what we were expecting, far more than a single person could ever eat at one sitting. Moreover, the flavors and quality were every bit as delicious as anything we've eaten at certain renowned restaurants in the Bay Area. The salad was fresh, refreshing, and covered lightly in a perfect dressing while the risotto was rich, succulent, and cooked to perfection for both the rice and the scallops. By the time we finished the meal, we had decided we're definitely going to bring some friends we see only a couple of times each year, and with whom we typically indulge in one "special" dinner each time, to this place on their next visit.
