I have been coming to this wonderful restaurant for years. Every single time the food is aways excellent - fresh, healthy, beautifully cooked. I have never been here before was coming to visit A friend stopped in on Christmas Day thinking it was a coffee shop. It's actually a full-service restaurant. All I wanted was a coffee to go and a gentleman who I believe may be the owner or manager by the name of Tony set me up with a latte which I didn't even order. Only about 3-4 tables filled out of many- and had to ask 3 times for cinnamon for my oatmeal (watery)- which was about $12 I think. The prices on the website are out of date. Although my Denver omelette was good, it was nothing to write home about (the accompanying home fries were, however, well prepared and tasty) and one of my friends who had a burger was quite disappointing in the quality and preparation of the meat. The owner, Tony, came out to greet us and take our order, told him it was a special occasion, a visit from my college friend. He was so attentive to my Golden, Buddy, and brought him some bacon, a nice treat. All the the rest of the staff were great, too. If the sun is out, just wear a jacket, get a seat outside in the sun, bring your dog and indulge in a great breakfast. As another reviewer said, come help this local business. I really want to like the Barefoot Cafe. The ambiance is very pleasant and staff are friendly. Today I ordered a Salad with Chicken Salad, HB eggs, cukes, and lots of lettuce and some other veggies. The chicken was in large chunks which were TOUGH! Some chefs know how to make chicken moist and tender but not here. I felt ripped off because it was $22. One of the last times I went there I called ahead to verify that they had wi-fi. They said "Yes" but when I got there they said "Oh sometimes it goes out." ... Barefoot Cafe provides solid food that delivers on flavor leaving me wanting a little more. Located on the street corner in the bustling yet cozy downtown Fairfax, Barefoot Cafe manages to surprise as you enter through the doors with semi-exotic decor that hangs the walls. It is an odd mix but it somehow reflects the slight twist on classics they have with the dishes I tried. Here is what I had: Cioppino: Although I have had better, this one had an interesting delectable variety of seafood that had married well in the flavored tomato based soup. The main disappointment was the quantity. Paired with garlic bread, it was the perfect vessel to scoop up the little remainders of soup. Prime Rib: With nice thick pieces of fat flavored well with fresh herbs, this prime rib was enjoyable. Although the dish came with two sauces ( horseradish and jus) that were a little muted, the meat alone was good enough alone. The sides that came with the rib including the greens and potatoes were good accompaniments, but also fell in comparison to the meat. Honestly, the one thing that I liked the most was the corn bread! Perhaps I haven't had corn bread in awhile, but their version was surprisingly moist. It was almost borderline sickly sweet with the honey but it definitely worked for me! The service was quick and attentive. For parking, there is a lot across the street that seems to fill up quickly especially during the busy hours. Otherwise, there is street parking in the residential areas that you may find. Fairfax is after all a city best enjoyed walking around! My friend and I came here for dinner and right away the staff was welcoming and friendly! The ambiance is warm and very polished. I tried the gnocchi which was incredible and I practically licked the plate clean. It was one of the nicest dinners I've had in a while and the whole place felt so private and cozy. It was one of the only places still open - so decided to check it out. It was surprisingly really good and for a pretty decent price! I was expecting what'd you expect from a breakfast place that offered late night dinner options. I got the lamb rack and it was tender, juicy and the sauce was tasty. We had a wonderful experience here. Let me start by mentioning our server, Ty. He was so friendly and attentive. From start to finish, he ensured that we were well taken care of the entire time. Ty is the kind of server that one always hopes to get when dining out. He was awesome! We started out with the amazing cornbread that was brought to us as soon as we were seated. I had to stop myself from eating so much of it before having our meal. It is THAT good! We ordered wine (great selection) and chose the calamari as our appetizer. When it came out, the generous amount of it was impressive as was the taste. Next, it was on to the salads. There were three of us, so we ordered two different ones to share. We got the Caprese and Cafe Caesar. Both were excellent, but that Caesar was probably the best one I've had in a very long time. And once again, the portions were large. It was more than enough for three of us and could easily have fed more. I ordered the Chicken Marsala thanks to Ty's recommendation. It did not disappoint! The other two in our group ordered the salmon. It was cooked to perfection, and they thought it was delicious. At this point, we were super full. However, the chef sent Ty out with a complimentary dessert. It's funny how one can be so stuffed yet manage to eat an entire dessert just fine. I wish I could remember what it was called. I'm so sorry, Chef! It was wonderful, and we are so appreciative of your kind gesture. I highly recommend Barefoot Cafe. We are three childhood friends who hadn't seen each other in over 40 years. Meh, the servers were definitely better than the food. They were fabulous actually. We sat outside and it's a fun, low key chill spot. I got the tuna sandwich (smoked) I hate smoked fish. I don't believe the menu stated that it was and I wasn't told that it was. Drinks were great and the fish and chips were ok. The French fries were yummy! Generous portion and good quality foods. The warm spinach salad is nice and not very greasy. I would recommend ordering before hand even if you plan eating indoors. My favorite meals are from the breakfast and brunch menu. They will cook to your specific needs gluten free and low fat. Make sure you clarify. Kid friendly too. Ordering take has been easy. I have to write another update because I tried Barefoot Cafe for lunch for the first time, having only visited for dinner before. How did I not know how amazing the lunch + breakfast menu is? And yes, it is a "lunch + breakfast" menu because breakfast is served until 3 PM. I can eat belgian waffles and bacon and eggs benedict any time of day, so this is pretty much my dream lunch. If you're not in the mood for brunch, there's also an extensive traditional lunch menu, ranging from sandwiches to burgers to fish and chips. I will probably always stick with breakfast, however, because the chocolate chip Belgian waffle is amazing. The server immediately brought out plastic kids' water cups, which shows me that now only are they kid friendly, but the servers are total pros. read more

My daughter and I stopped here for breakfast on our way to Muir Woods and we're not disappointed. I've been wanting really good pancakes and found it here! The maple syrup was the only thing I was slightly disappointed because I like my syrup real thick and theirs is a little thin. But the pancakes were nice and fluffy and the side order of bacon was exactly how I love my bacon...nice and crispy without being burnt. Coffee was good and server was attentive to refills as needed. My daughter had the lox and bagels and she also said that everything tasted delicious. Definitely worth coming back to this restaurant. The prices are comparable to most CA prices especially since they make all their food from scratch. The little town of Fairfax has changed, to me it seems, anyway, over the last few years. It used to have a sleepier Bohemian feel, but the last few times I've been through, there's more visitors and a wider array of shops and cafes, that while still have an Indie vibe, include slightly more upscale options. Barefoot Cafe seems to toe the line between the older and newer town with some patrons ordering salmon salads and wine with others stumbling in fresh from a hike, a still with mud on their shoes (I feel in to the latter category, after hiking locally.) Their weekend menu serves breakfast until 3 as well as a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads and wraps. My boyfriend and I arrived around 2:15 and while it was late for lunch, the place was pretty crowded. Decor is simple & modern and service is attentive. Really enjoyed my portobello mushroom sandwich with a simple side of mixed greens. It's a bit prIcey but portions are decent and ingredients fresh. Would definitely stop back and possibly try one of their weekend breakfasts. Plenty of free street parking and lots of shops nearby. Great option in the area if you're in the mood for a bistro type meal. read more

We were dismissed by the server multiple times when asking to check on our food. The owner is a very sweet man who makes you feel like you are visiting his home when he welcomes you in with a warm greeting, sits you down in his bright cafe with pretty artwork and a view of the open kitchen..where you can see a happy chef preparing your eggs Benedict or omelette or turkey sandwich. The food is always delicious and everything is made from scratch, including the dressings. On my way home from Mendocino, I had to take a slight detour and grab some lunch on my way home. Arrived first thing on Sat am when they opened. Peeps started to file in One after the other Was greeted by a cook to sit wherever I wanted. Coffee was served right away and I ordered the bacon and eggs. Btw there a sweet aroma of bacon in the air which caused me to order some bacon. Also ordered a blue berry pancake. I really wanted a cornmeal pancakes but they do. It serve ala carte. Took a long while for food to arrive which was odd to me. Got the eggs scrambled and they were too dry. I should specify runny as thAts he way I like em. Bacon was perfectly prepared. Country potato's were a small side which was ok since I ordered the pancakes but if not would not have been satisfying. Toast was sour dough and good! The blueberry pancake was one big cake about 10 inches in diameter. Ample blueberries but not enough syrup included. Overall food was good, service a bit slow but I take into consideration I was one of the first customers of the day. Menu has a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Almost too many I would return and give them another shot since I love the location and ambiance. I think for the money though I would have expected a little better service and More for my $$. Wow. This place was phenomenal. Vanessa was a FLAWLESS waitress. Even if the food sucked, which it did not, I would make this a regular spot. She was so kind, and so positive even though they were short-staffed on a Friday night. Loved the barefoot cafe ... we had coconut shrimp, meatballs and spaghetti and ahi salad. And a truly memorable panna cotta (vanilla w/ raspberry reduction). Delicious. However, this experience got me thinking (always a bad sign) that restaurants ought to be able to offer the option of serving large, medium or small portions even if it costs the same for each size. Some travelers can't do take-homes or just have lighter appetites but still want the kind of excellent food served by Barefoot Cafe. Anyway, lucky Fairfax to have such a special place. read more
