2025 Albuquerque. New Mexican breakfast. Huevos Rancheros Deluxe -- Two eggs served with hash browns, beans, chile, cheese, and tortillas; a hearty New Mexican breakfast classic. +Side of Chorizo Carne Adovada & Eggs -- Tender pork marinated in red chile, paired with eggs, hash browns, and tortilla. Bold flavors, very satisfying. Side of chicharrones Overall, "I'm a fan."

One of my favorite Albuquerque classics Barelas is a staple New Mexican breakfast spot with all the best things to offer. You can't go wrong ordering from this menu, and their staff is so sweet and accommodating. This place has homey feel and I love the patio! You have to get a cinnamon roll, they put soooo much more butter than frontier they are PERFECT!

This was another spot recommended by my cousin to go visit. Much like frontier, it appears that the spot bought the place is right next to them and continued to grow. They have a gift shop, a bakery, and a restaurant all combined. Across the street they have a parking lot and an ice cream shop. They have appeared to be the place for the community, and their food felt like home. It was almost lunchtime and very busy in the dining room. I chose to have the beef enchiladas, which of course came with their New Mexico green chile. The rice and beans are good and their yellow corn tortillas kept everything together. My girlfriend had their Carne Adovada plate and really enjoyed the red sauce that came with it. She said it reminded her of her mother's. The thick flour tortillas that were homemade were so good with butter, and for me, reminded me of my grandmother's tortillas growing up. We decided to try their Menudo, and it seemed like the tripe was added to the broth and Hominy. After combining everything, we came to the conclusion that the Menudo was good, tripe was very tender, but as a whole lacked the seasoning kick that we used to here in LA. Overall, it was a very nice experience and their decor for Coca-Cola was pretty cool. The service was great! I loved how they had a little candies for purchase when you showed up with the check to pay. I recommend this spot for anyone visiting Albuquerque.

The service was excellent, 10/10 The restaurant has a diner and family feel with beautiful outdoor seating. You can just tell the locals love it here. The food came out so quick, which usually makes me nervous. The meat was tasty and tender. The hash browns were good. However my eggs tasted like it was not made to order, like it was just seating there for awhile. I love eggs and a restaurant who can't get eggs right is worrisome. The red chilli sauce was runny and forgettable. They got the meats right but everything else I had was mediocre.

Even though we've lived here for almost 40 years, today is the first time we've eaten at Barelas Coffee House. It's a local institution renowned for feeding everyone from neighborhood residents to presidents. It was super busy with regulars and some tourists, but we found a table pretty quickly. Our server was super friendly and took good care of us. My chile tolerance fluctuates, so I tried the two-egg breakfast with sausage and red and green on the side. It came with hash browns and some fantastic thick tortillas. The red was deeply colored and flavored with the right amount of heat - really good. The green was hotter, so I didn't eat much, but the couple of bites I had were tasty. My only quibble is that my food was a little cold when it arrived, but I was hungry so it wasn't worth taking the time to send it back. My husband enjoyed his huevos rancheros with red, plus one of the tortillas to mop everything up. I can see why Barelas Coffee House is so popular - friendly service and good food.

This is definitely one of those establishments where you feel like you are amongst family. A bustling place in the beautiful neighborhood of Barelas. Staff is always so friendly. Never skimp out on getting an order of chicharrones for the table. The flour tortillas are *chefs kiss* a reason you'll find me here with a stew in the summer. Your bound to see some familiar faces while your here.

We had the carne adovada, huevos rancheros and chicharrones. The adovada was our favorite. We got there at 9 on a Saturday and the wait was less than ten minutes. Staff are quick, friendly, efficient. Loved the food. Truly an authentic New Mexican spot. And inexpensive too!

    Vanessa T.

My mother in law told me about this place so we stopped by here for breakfast one day. It's such a traditional New Mexico restaurant and has so much history to it! Their tortillas are homemade, highly recommend grabbing a bag of fresh ones before they run out! This place definitely does get busy around breakfast time so expect a wait but so worth it.

Amazing at always, seriously a classic and my go to for huevos rancheros. I love when I go and the patio is open because it's always nice to enjoy a piping hot plate of huevos rancheros deluxe and coffee out in the fresh air. They have misters on when it's a little warmer too.

Oh my goodness. Love Barelas! The staff is super friendly. The food is amazing. My huevos rancheros deluxe hit the spot. The freshly made flour tortillas were soooo good.

Carne adovada, eggs, hash browns, tortilla, and rock hard chicharons.

The bread is clearly baked fresh and was nice and crusty on the outside and fluffy with the perfect chew on the inside. My mini me 1 inhaled her grilled cheese (of which my husband ordered the full size and also demolished his), and mini me 2 and I shared the toasted tuna melt. Good balance of tuna, celery, and bread ratio, but I didn't dig the olives in it. There's a mini kale salad that comes with entrees, and it was healthy and palatable for kale. We did end up balancing that green with the pistachio cruffin and pistachio chocolate chip cookie. Would definitely go back for the cruffin with its flaky layers and luscious pastry cream. Cookie was less impressive but still worth the impulse buy. Indoor and breezy outdoor seating available. Highly recommend!

I also had a blood orange Jr. mimosa, which was off-the-charts delicious. Everything here is fresh, fresh, and more fresh. The bacon deserves a special mention -- phenomenal, cooked to perfection with amazing flavor. Whether you're craving something sweet or leaning toward the savory side, you're completely covered. If you're on the fence about coming here, don't be -- you will not be disappointed. Before leaving, we stopped to share our experience with the manager. She was incredibly engaged, professional, and genuinely eager to listen. We simply wanted her to know how amazing our breakfast was and how much we appreciated the entire experience.

The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". The latte was honestly great--it was super smooth, flavorful, and had the perfect balance of sweetness and cinnamon. Definitely something I would come back for. The waffle, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. It came out cold, which took away from the overall experience. It had some flavor, especially from the blueberries and the unique blue corn base, but it felt a little flat overall. The butter that came with it was really good though, and once I added it, it definitely helped improve the taste. My friends also ordered waffles, and unfortunately theirs were kind of cold as well and didn't have much flavor either, so it didn't seem like it was just mine. That said, I've been here before and remember everything tasting much better, so I don't think this is their usual standard--this visit just seemed like an off day. Overall, I'd still come back for the latte alone and would give the waffles another shot hoping for a better experience next time.

The table had bars on all four sides at just below knee level that did not allow stretching out your legs. Chairs had no padding, not unexpected for patio furniture, but for such an excellent restaurant I'd like better. Our server, Jaz, was prompt, very friendly and checked on us often. Excellent service overall! We ordered a traditional eggs Benedict that comes with smashed potatoes and a pickled kale salad or slaw. The flavors were excellent, the hollandaise sauce seemed to be made fresh as it had a light fresh lemon flavor. The ham excellent as well. The eggs however were overcooked.
