Specialty prescriptions made available, and although lab testing has mostly been outsourced to Quest Diagnostics that means my overall visit costs have decreased compared with the early years. Been in business here for 14 years and worth every visit. Reports provided at aftercare are thorough and complete. They even have a specialty practice in equine (horse) veterinary care. read more

Absolutely the most worst set of faces in their front of office. The vet himself was great. But instead of helping me get my cat his medicine they made it next to impossible. I was on the phone five times with Chewy and four times with the Vets front of house. They wasted a lot of my time and theirs. My husband who isn't well had to end up ordering off Chewy to satisfy this vets requirements. All for allergy meds. If you needed something fixed or changed on things it would be helpful for everyone if you would just pick up the phone and get things sorted out. If things are that awful in front then I imagine that the Vets staff need as a whole are not up to par. NEVER TAKING ANY OF MY PETS TO YOU AGAIN read more

I set up an appointment for my cat. She simply needed Rx-level flea/tick/ear mite medication. I arrived on time and saw the phone number on the door, so I texted it (this has been business as normal with other dentists, doctors, etc). I waited in my car for nearly an hour as I saw the assistants/technicians handle half a dozen other people in the parking lot. They looked at me several times but never approached the car. As it came around to nearly an hour after the appointment time I called the number and talked to a lady who told me they don't take texts. Fine, I'm an idiot. However, she proceeded to laugh almost uncontrollably at me while I explained my needs. Then she put me on hold to talk to someone else (not a physician). I drove away, never to come back. I understand the confusion/me being an nincompoop, but good customer-facing personnel don't laugh repeatedly at someone in this situation and then put them on hold. I've worked many jobs dealing with customers, and I've dealt with many kinds (including being cursed to repeatedly and having things thrown at me), but even in those situations I would never have reacted like this person did. read more

Not for me I was tired of paying for this vet to guess what's wrong with my dog.. he has a serious problem that cannot heal its self . yet dr Bailey was saying he's getting better and this is with no treatment. I sent her a email of a dr who helps vets for free with Fanconi Syndrome he's a expert in the treatment for Fanconi Syndrome . She didn't seem interested . Look up Fanconi Syndrome. There's no cure just treatment . A simple one at that. I moved from the area changed vets I'm not about to let my dog die . Also prices too high and your dog will be held hostage if your bill comes back and you owe money. The office people who handle the money very rude my daughter called to pay the 44 dollars for me that went over what I understood my bill was going to be.and they were rude to her. No More of this place for me. There's so much more too much to put down. read more

When we first moved here we brought our dog and cats in and immediately Barfield's routine tests found anaplasmosis in the dog--which explains why he's limped off and on for years but otherwise been fine, a mystery our previous vets had been unable to solve. So I was grateful and impressed at first. And it's not like we ever had a horrific experience with Barfield or anything. But after a year or two with them we grew tired of the exorbitant pricing (several times what we were used to paying for vaccines and the like) and the unrelenting pitches for expensive, unnecessary procedures (intrusive dental work for no apparent reason other than a vague implication that we or our creatures aren't quite good enough). We've now switched to another vet--one that's just as knowledgeable about care and treatment, more loving and welcoming to our animals, and much less expensive and pushy with us. read more

We've been bringing our pets here for years and the doctors and vet techs have always been so amazing. Our Pitbull, Sly, absolutely loves it here and cannot wait to get out of the car when we get there. Always a wonderful experience as far as that is concerned. Both for checkups and boarding. HOWEVER, this last experience had me leaving there less than impressed. NOT at all with the vet techs, but with Cari Pont at the front desk. She is mean and nasty and has no respect for the way she speaks to people. And more importantly, could care less about the pets in their care. I had been told over the phone that if I got both my pups flea and tick protection that there would be a discount. So when I went to pick them up and pay, I brought that up and was met with a flat out "NO, THAT'S NOT TRUE". I told her it was made clear to me before they administered the pill, that was the deal so I opted to not only get it for them both, but went with the three month protection rather than the one month. She was adamant and without looking at me said "NO, THAT'S WRONG". No apologies, no offer to help and honor the communicated discount. Nothing. I explained that I was told that over the phone and I was fine with paying because I want my pups protected but that is what I was told and maybe she should let the vet tech know so they wouldn't miscommunicate to anyone else in the future. She said "SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER". I explained that while that may be true she obviously did not and again, it may be best to let her know. She didn't want to hear it and handed me my bill. As soon as I stepped up to the counter, I also asked that they bring out my little pup first so my son and I could get her to the car before the big guy came out because he is wild and crazy and if there are other dogs in the waiting room he will want to play and would pull me and it is hard to have both at the same time. (he is 55lbs of pure muscle and always wants to play) Without looking at me she said she would have to tell the tech when she came out. Within minutes she picked up the phone and asks for them both to be brought out. TOTALLY IGNORED my request for help. I waited a second and took a deep breath and told her I had asked for them to be brought out separately from the beginning and had explained why and to please make that happen. She looked at the receptionist next to her at the front desk and told her to go in the back and make the request. Which Yvonne did with a smile while looking at me getting more and more angry. I am so upset at the greeting and disrespect I received after all of these years of being a customer, and showing nothing but gratitude to the whole team with every visit, that I am thinking of never going back. The only thing is that my pups love the doctors and the vet techs and it would only stress them out to have to go elsewhere. Next time we go, I will not allow Cari to "help" me and I urge anyone else to wait for another receptionist as well. Otherwise you will leave there as I did, with a ruined day - angry and stressed. read more

I have been going here for the entire life of my pets. every single time one of them has gotten sick I feel like they nickel and dime me to death. when I wanted to get my dog neutered they quoted me over 1k in extras. I have specifically asked they tell me before running a procedure that I am not made of money and to call me first. I do not feel that they are qualified, they care about the bottom line. I will never return to this vet and I suggest any one else do the same. I didnt even know a vet could quote you up front until I switched. normal procedures here always tend to be hundreds more than other places in town. 0/10 I would literally recommend any other place in Murfreesboro than having to subject your pet to tons of tests or meds or shots they don't need just so they can make money. read more

I adopted a terrier mix in October 2011 and a friend recommended Barfield Animal Hospital. I have brought my dog in for her vaccinations and when she was sick and Dr. Barker and his staff have been amazing. Dr. Barker is very friendly and very good with my dog. He explains everything very carefully. They have specials each month on different services. In February they had a teeth cleaning special and I took advantage and got my dog's teeth cleaned. Suddenly her breath didn't stink. I have also boarded my dog here and they took very good care of her. I have never had a problem with prices changing and the price quoted has always been carefully explained to me. I always feel like my pup is in very good hands here. read more

I personally like Barfield Animal Hospital. The staff that helps with boarding is always friendly. I've also haven't had any problems with the front office, even though sometimes they are very slow moving. I like it that when I board my dog, they give him all of his shots that are due. It saves me a vet visit. My dog is hardly ever sick, so I'm hardly ever there for an issue. He did get sick once. He was throwing up. I took him to Barfield, they gave him a shot for the nausea, some bland dog food, and then charged me almost $300. Eek! I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen again. The last time he wasn't feeling better, I just called them and they gave me advice over the phone (aka free.99). I agree with some of the other reviews. Their vet and grooming services are not cheap! However, their boarding is one of the cheapest in Murfreesboro. (Some places charge you for playtime...). read more

I brought my recently passed lab mix to this place for about a year and a half. One night, she couldn't stand on her hind legs. In a panic, we brought her in the following morning. Dr. Barker ran test straight away and listened to her heart. He told us that she had a heart murmur and was in kidney failure. He told us the murmur could've caused kidney failure, and that kidney failure could have caused the murmur. We discussed options and she was housed over the weekend for kidney flushing. I was allowed to visit every morning while she sat in the cage. I opened up her cage and would snuggle with her, kiss her. She as only four years old and in critical shape, but Dr got her kidney to great shape. The day we brought Lola home she acted fine. The doctor said there was hopes to treat her problem for a long time, and thought it was long acting hereditary problem. For some unknown reason, she laid down and suddenly passed away. I found her by the door, already in rigor mortis and her tongue purple, with a puddle of saliva. Nothing seemed abnormal, and I demanded an autopsy be done with the corpse. I need to know why she had passed. If my dog had lived, I'd given this place five stars. But he fact we lost a dog and we don't know why is heartbreaking. Dr. Barker has asked to see the autopsy paperwork and plans to explain it all to me. We got another dog to keep myself busy, lick the tears away, and train. I'm not quite sure I want to stay with this Dr. We will see. read more

I boarded my healthy, elderly cat here for a week. He came home with an upper respiratory infection, despite the fact I paid for the vaccination to prevent this. Perhaps the vaccine didn't get a chance to "set in". Why wasn't it suggested I bring my cat in a few days prior to boarding to prevent this from happening? It was something I didn't think to mention. I was charged for antibiotics... ok. Did Barfield call to follow up given that it is their fault my cat got sick? No. What is really upsetting is that, with their covid protocol, wouldn't you think a pet would be safe in their care? My cat suffers from anxiety. I was told he enjoyed his stay, for which I'm grateful. If that weren't the case, I'd be giving zero stars. I was told to bring my cat in if he didn't improve. I'm sure I'd be charged for the visit. No thanks. He is still sick, but I will be going elsewhere. Also, they were going to charge me over $8 per dose to give my cat anxiety medication I was supplying. Unfortunately, I feel it's all about the money with Barfield. I do not recommend this place for boarding. read more

We've been bringing our little rescue poodle to Dr. Honey at Barfield Animal Hospital for about 6 months now and couldn't be more pleased. He and the all of the staff are always so helpful, taking time to explain conditions and treatment options, and very compassionate. They've helped us bring Coco back from being a very sick, near death, little dog with multiple health issues to one that is thriving and enjoying life. We also use their in-house groomer, Laura, who is wonderful. She goes out of her way to make Coco's grooming visits as stress free as possible. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

We switched to Barfield shortly before our older dog was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Honey, Dr. Bailey, Emily, Heather and the entire staff. Losing a pet to an illness is very stressful but the expertise and compassion shown at Barfield was exceptional. It really eased a very hard time for our family. When we had to say goodbye to our beloved friend, they helped us in the most sensitive and loving of ways, even providing a sweet last meal for him. We just moved to the area and I guess we have been spoiled by our previous vet.... Although the building itself is nice and clean, we did not get a welcoming, warm n fuzzy feeling there (maybe because it was a Saturday Idk? ) Also, our dog had to be muzzled which has never happened in her 2 years of life. I asked about the cost of nail trimming and was told that the Dr would probably do it as part of the exam. Once we went to check out, I saw that we were charged over $15 for nails. I was obviously willing to pay since I asked but that is not what was discussed.... Only 1 of our dogs was examined and vaccinated, both heartworm tested, & 1 (6) month supply of heartguard was over $300 and that is with their online coupon! This might be a great place for some but not for our 2 fur babies. read more

Great experience today.. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Our sheep dog seemed to have an infection of some sort on her paw. They got her in the very next day, gave her a thorough exam, and even found a brewing ear infection. Sent us home with a much happier doggie, after a cortizone shot and some other meds. We've been taking our pets here for several years now.. both cats and dogs even since we moved across town. Recently we had to put down our dog who was losing his battle with cancer. As this was the first time having to go through this I didn't know what to expect. These people are FANTASTIC! I REALLY appreciated the honesty from both of the Vets as well as the overwhelming support from their staff! So many times people are only moved to write a review based on a bad experience! I have mixed reviews for this place. As far as veterinary and boarding services I have mot had an issue. When it comes to grooming though I am not taking my dog here again. The first time we had a grooming appt I waited almost 15 minutes to have my dog taken to the back. I ended up canceling my appt and walking out. We moved from Florida 12 years ago and we took our babies to Laura Ledlow. She did an awesome job with them so we are still with her today. She listened to how we wanted them to be cut and she would make suggestions. She always meets all our expectations. I absolutely LOVE Barfield!! I bring my two babies Molly and Brody here all the time for their vaccinations and yearly check ups and always get the best service possible! I have seen both Dr. Barker and Dr. Honey and they always treat my dogs with the best care, which has been tough to find at other clinics. I also use their grooming services and Laura always does an amazing job with them! I have two Yorkies and I'm always picky about how their hair looks but Laura let me stand next to her during their first grooming visit and let me watch how she cuts their hair and allowed me to show her how I wanted it done. On Saturday, my parent's had to make the decision to say goodbye to their beloved Buddy, their Lab. Dr. Barker and Dr. Bailey had both worked so hard to save him, but he was just so sick. Dr. Bailey took such good care of Buddy and my Dad on Saturday. She had my Dad call my Mom and I so that we could help with the decision. She explained everything to us. We ultimately decided to let Buddy go. It was such a hard decision, but Dr. Bailey was so supportive. We called my daughter so she could come say good-bye. They put the four of us in a quiet room with soft lights. They brought Buddy in and told us we could take as long as we needed with him. Once we were ready, Dr. Bailey and Elise came in and stayed with us until Buddy had drifted away. In the meantime, Evonne had come in to take care of the bill so that we could just leave without any fanfare, and offered us water. Several of the techs stopped in to see if we needed anything. I cannot not say enough good things about the staff and the facilities at Barfield Animal Hospital. They took such good care of Buddy, and they take wonderful care of our two small dogs. I recently googled and read online customer reviews of vets in my area, Barfield being one of them. Overall, their reviews sung praises and I was impressed by their website. I have had many dogs in the past but recently purchased a new puppy and it was time for his scheduled vaccines. Our first visit to Barfield's office went well. The staff is friendly and the offices and the exam rooms are nice and well equipped. The nurse explained to us a list of procedures that they would perform that day and there was a price listed at the bottom. Some things on the list (ie: frontline) I felt I could get cheaper online. In fact, I used my iPhone and learned I could get it a lot cheaper, so we opted out of that and our total was adjusted. All vaccines needed at that time were given. Then we learned our dog has ear mites. So an extra antibiotic was needed as well as drops for his ears each day. When we were released and headed to the front desk to pay - are total was significantly more than was explained. The staff member at the desk - whom we'd never seen before - re-explained the details of our bill. A little frustrated and confused, we paid as we want our dog healthy. I should add, our bill was still more than expected even with the coupon offered for new clients on their website. Our next appointment proved to be that same routine. Once in the exam room, you are presented with a paper agreement that has listed what you are paying for today. Again, there was 6 mo of heart worm meds added into the bill - unrequested. We opted out for now, as he just had a heartworm prevention at our last visit and wouldn't need another one until later. So again, we asked them to adjust the total. After giving my dog the two scheduled vaccines, he began to vomit repeatedly. I had to go get someone - they rushed in and took him away. Once they returned it was explained to me he must be having an allergic reaction so they gave a benadryl and wanted me to leave him there for an hour. I was uncomfortable with this, but trusted them. When it was time to pay I was floored at the amount! $40 for a benadryl - that another vet said would have cost $7 elsewhere?? I also wondered if they administered the correct amount to my dog and/or was it the quality of the vaccine they shot into him. I've never had anything like that happen before with my other pets. But, I'm not calling blame - it's just interesting to me. At the front desk, our total was $100 more than we had expected to pay. While at the front desk the Vet and Nurse are no where to be found. It's between you and the front desk to sort out your bill. All the staff at the front desk knows is what the vet tells them to charge you. Even if you feel differently or want further explanation - the front desk cant help you. I cant help but wonder if this is the norm here. I will say I wont ever learn as I will not be returning. Cant afford to, honestly. Some of the prices they charge for basic vaccines, I learned are dramatically cheaper at other vets in the area. Though this vet is friendly and the offices are nice - their pricing is a bit mysterious. I did not feel comfortable with not know EXACTLY what I could expect to pay. I did not like the feeling of surprise and confusion when I was handing over my credit card. I did not like that the vet, once you've left the exam room, is no where to be found. I did not like that things where administered to my pet without be knowing the exact price. They also always seemed to find something else that needed attention. For example: the ear mites where gone and clear - however the vet went ahead to pumped a anti fungal gel in my dogs ear "just o be safe." I wish she would have explained why and asked permission so I could ask more questions and at least learn of the price. It seem that once you're in - you will not know your exact total until the end. And I also feel like they will do whatever they want with your pet - regardless the cost to you and then you're stuck with the bill. I want my pet to be healthy and have the best care, just like most people do, but I do not want surprises. If money is no object when it comes to your pet - this is the vet for you!! read more

Beware of Magically Changing Prices!! I needed to board my two dogs while on vacation. They were also in need of shots. I took them to Barfield Animal Hospital and was quoted $348. I paid a $300 deposit and offered to pay the additional $48 upfront. The lady at the front desk said to wait until I picked them up, because depending on the results of the fecal test, the price might be a little more or a little less. Her statement reinforced the fact that the price she quoted me was including their exam and shots. Upon picking up my dogs, my balance was $246!!!!! The dogs spent exactly the amount of time I indicated and the basic shots for boarding. No additional medical treatment was necessary and their fecal results were negative. When I questioned the lady, she said that the $348 was the cost of boarding and if I liked, I could speak to the manager on Monday. She offered no apology for the miscommunication but rather smirked, blew me off and went on to the next customer picking up her dogs. If there cannot be clear communication about something as simple as a price quote, then I question the quality of their services and will never take my pups back again! Recently I had an emergency with my dog and I called another veterinary clinic in the area because it was the closest and fastest one to get my dog to. The clinic I called refused to see me because I was not a pre- existing client, so I called Barfield animal hospital and they were very compasionate about the severety of the condition of my dog. They said I could go ahead and bring my dog in, even though it was the end of the day. When I arrived they were very friendly and saw to my dog immediatley. I did not feel rushed and the staff was awesome and very friendly. I feel my dog got the best care available and he made a full recovery. So i was driving along the road and see this kitten that has been ran over and his leg appeared to be broke and his tail was degloved , so we take him to the closest vet nearby which happened to be this place andh we took him in and they took him back and the vet came back and said that his tail had to be amputated ,which i figured on how it looked and he said his leg would also have to be amputated so he gave us medicine for him (170 dollars for 2 syringes quarter full of medicine) so we left and long story short we end up taking him to a different vet that just said his leg was torn and all he needed was a cast so they put a cast on him and now he is running around on it and he is a perfectly normal kitten ... so i would never recommend this vet, it disgust me that he is probably to lazy to make a cast or some kind of splint to help the kitty instead of just going straight forward to amputation also, they said the surgery for the amputation would be close to 600 and the other vet we went to it was only 220 for the tail amputation and the cast for his leg and they gave us 3 bags of kitten food to start him off with read more

Several years ago, we experienced a tragedy. Our little Boston Terrier was in our fenced in backyard to go potty. He found a place in the fence he thought he could get under and tried to get out to come around to the front door of our house. His collar got caught on the fence and he ended up choking to death. I was devastated and understandably hysterical. I knew he was dead but ran him up to Barfield Animal Hospital for them to check just because I guess I just needed to hear it from the vet. Like I said, I was devastated. I am not a regular customer of Barfied but they were closer to me than my vet was. They took my dog from me and told me they gave him a shot to see if they could get his heart started again and did CPR. When they called me back they told me that he was indeed dead and the shot didn't work. When I went to leave, they gave me a box to put my baby in (which I had to place him in it) and I also had to ask for the box. When I went up front they told me my bill was $130! What the crap??????? My dog had just died, my neighbor drove me up there so I didn't have my purse or anything and they looked at me very suspiciously when I balked at the amount and then told them I didn't have my wallet because of running out the door in a panic. They had to go check with someone in the back to see if it was okay if I paid later. Well, let me tell you something, I went back up there and paid them but I will NEVER take my animals there. When I told my vet what happened, they couldn't believe that they even gave him this shot especially since I didn't ask for it. And didn't understand why they just didn't examine him and console me that yes they were sorry but he had passed away. read more
