Food-wise, I'd say nothing super special, but my first dining experience here was exceptional!! Shout out to my waitress (don't know her name). The place is hole in the wall like, very cozy feeling, with cute ladies with deep smoky voices. ;) First off, let's talk about food. The prices are unbeatable here! Being able to get fresh Italian food for potentially under $6 bucks?! WHAT. Unless you want to go fancy and go on the "Special" side of the menu. We got the pasta sampler, a great option for indecisive people which had a small portion of manicotti, cannelloni, and lasagna all baked in one small baking dish. No complaints! We also were fortunately enough to try the calamari. The portion is huge with a giant bowl of marinara! Very crispy and lightly battered, would definitely order again! Now on to why I'm giving this place 4 stars. When we came in, the place was pretty crowded but was quickly seated. It took them maybe 10 minutes to finally take our order after giving us our drinks, but we didn't mind at all. After placing our orders, we were busy chatting away that I didn't realize how much time had come by before we got our food. I did finally notice the restaurant was almost empty and that most of the people around us left already before our waitress came by our table and told us the kitchen lost our ticket and so they're JUST finally making our food. We were offered free appetizer, hence the calamari, and were finally served our food. At the end when we were wrapping up our to-go's, the waitress came by with to-go bags for our containers with free garlic bread in them! It was so nice! I did realize we were there for over an hour so we waited at least 45 minutes for our food. I guess all of the bonus service we got is viewed as mandatory for some, but the fact that we were treated in this manner when no complaints or rude attitude from us were ever expressed (we didn't really notice or care about the slow service), I thought it was exceptionally wonderful for the waitress to take care of us like that! Absolutely the best Italian food we've every had. We eat here or take out every other week. We've loved every dish but tend to gravitate toward our favorites. Mine is the spinach or the veggie calzone (huge enough for 2 meals and with a fabulous Italian sauce). My husband likes the sampler, my daughters like the Chicken Alfredo (real chunks of chicken and a terrific creamy sauce) or the white pizza, and we all love the rolls. We often order extra rolls. You will love this place and if you are lucky, you might get to meet Mama Baris, who is usually at the checkout or at the table next to the drink machine. read more

I have been a big fan of Baris's for quite some time but lately, not so much. The food is still good but the service has been really lacking on my last two visits. On two consecutive call-in orders our orders have been wrong. We specifically ask that we only want the sauce for the Shrimp Diablo and to leave off the pasta. We make our own pasta at home because we use whole grain pasta and they don't serve whole grain. Both orders had pasta when we got it home. The very next time we ordered, we emphasized what went wrong the last time and to please leave out the pasta this time. This time the pasta was left off, but there was only about 2 tablespoons of sauce in my order. I said then that I'm done with Baris's. As good as they are I can't trust their service anymore. First place in Waco for the TCU game. When your girlfriend wants Italian and desires nostalgia she end takes you to Baris. When it was decided that we would not share a pizza, I had to go for the Chicken Parm! I also ordered a coffee. Baris isn't FINE dining, but it is fine dining. I took a look from her when she saw I ordered coffee because she desired Common Grounds, but I denied her this pleasure until after the shellacking of Baylor. The Chicken Parm arrived, it just hit the spot, like food coma and deliciousness. She ordered the lasagna and it looked delicious, but her report was a heavy dose of ricotta and I am just not that kind of guy. We were looking for a Italian place in Waco and this looked good according to yelp. This is a locally owned restaurant that had solid Italian food. Don't expect high end quality but it was very good when you consider the price. We ordered a couple of slices of the Everything pizza, a dish of baked tortellini, their pasta sampler, and a couple of salads. The place was packed at the time so we were wondering about how long it would take. The waitress helped us quickly and our food was there at no time at all. Dinner was served with freshly baked rolls which are huge and good. For dessert we ordered a cannoli. All of it was good but we especially enjoyed the tomato based house salad dressing. It definitely seemed like it was home made, along with everything else we tried. If we are in Waco again looking for Italian, we will visit here again. One thing to note if you enjoy wine with your Italian, the restaurant serves no alcohol but is BYOB. read more

Amazing food for a great price! My fiancé and I were driving back home to Austin from a cycling race in Oklahoma and stopped here for a quick bite to eat. Easily one of the best Italian places we've eaten at (and we've eaten a lot lol)! He had the spaghetti with Italian sausage and it was tangy and delicious sauce on top of perfect al dente noodles. I had the Murphy dinner special which was a perfect blend of spices, peppers, artichokes and sauce! Seriously, usually I have to add pepper to most dishes I get from restaurants but this was perfect as is. The portions are nice size and even though we live in Austin we both decided to take our leftovers with us. I'm looking forward to the next cycling event in (or that takes us through) Waco so we have another reason to come here and eat! read more

All the of the Baylor students rave about this place (because they have no taste) so I had to try. I've been to Baris 4 times trying to be optimistic by ordering something different each time. Everything made me sick except for the free bread (you can't really mess up plain bread). Last time I came here I got food poisoning. Never coming here again. Go to Moroso instead. I didn't care for the house dressing, which tasted like French dressing mixed with salsa. It was spicy and was weird. The rolls they gave you before your meal were amazing. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Waco because their complimentary rolls (free with entree purchase) and pink sauce are absolute perfection! Pro tip: order a side of pink sauce for the rolls. My favorite thing to order is the Chicken Florentine because it's a pink sauce dish and is a big enough portion for 3 days of food depending on how much you eat so it's definitely worth the money. Baris is an absolutely charming family-owned restaurant in an excellent location in Waco. The parking is very limited, so it is important to come at an early hour or park nearby. Cool thing was the BYOB! We were able to bring a bottle of our favorite wine and enjoy it with the meal. They were even kind enough to bring us glasses and uncork the bottle for us. The wait staff is marvelous and very attentive. The restaurant, though a tight squeeze, is very clean. It helps when you're new to the restaurant so that you can peek over and see what amazing dishes they have to offer. Their menu selection is vast and very, very reasonably priced. It honestly makes you want to come back every day and just take a tour of Italy. Rolls came out fresh and piping hot - definitely try the dinner rolls with pink sauce. Oh my goodness... so good!
