To start, the service is quick and very friendly. The ambiance is old school Italian and pretty nice for a dinner date. The food though is meh. The pasta tasted like buffet quality pasta and the sauces lacked flavor. We left wishing we had gone to Olive Garden instead, which doesn't speak to a love for Olive Garden...prices are great though so if you aren't into authentic Italian and want a cheap dinner, this could be your place

I'm giving five stars for the food to price ratio. This place is a total hole in the wall I went to back in college. Upperclassmen had recommended. Loved it then and will return anytime I'm in Waco. I always get the tortellini pink and it's just great.

Great value and friendly service. Large portion sizes. Free bread. Parking lot is very small.

If you are very hungry and don't have much money to spend on food, this might be the place for you. I'm inclined to agree with a previous reviewer who gave this place a 5-star review and said: "This is the Waco style of Italian food." Because it wasn't close to what I'd call 'authentic Italian food'. I ordered the lunch special of the day: Ziti pasta with tomato sauce, garlic rolls and a green salad all for only $6.99. My wife had an entree salad topped with chicken. Both salads were mostly iceberg lettuce that tasted like it had sat too long. Since my wife wouldn't each more than a couple of bites of her meal, I had some and agreed that the chicken was dry, over-cooked and bland. The other two in my party had the authentic 'spaghetti and meatballs,' which they politely told me was "okay." Three of the four of us love bread with Italian food, yet the majority of the rolls placed on our table were untouched. For me it was because the rolls were too salty. We left a lot of food on the table. I wondered about the many awards Baris was given for their food and concluded that they must have been given before this place went downhill, or that....................well, I'm not going to go there. We had the best experience here! Everyone was so sweet and welcoming. The food was 10/10, and this will definitely be a place I visit often. It has such a homey environment and the best customer service. Highly recommend coming here!

Coming down to Waco for a day trip, we wanted a local restaurant for lunch- and we found it! You can tell Baris has been a neighborhood institution for decades. Great food, phenomenal prices, and a wonderful staff. Natalia was such a friendly and helpful waitress.

Our waitress was Arielle. She was kind & informative. Family owned restaurant. Food was delicious. Pink sauce was great! Portions large. We barely waited for our dishes. Very busy place. The parking is terrible but full of cars! Bc the food is really that good!

If you want cheap, local, large portion italian food, this is your spot. The restaurant was completely packed and we were able to get a table in 35 minutes. It seemed very understaffed but for the price we were paying, i didnt complain. I liked the local feel environment of the restaurant.

We hadn't been in Waco in several years had heard Mama Baris had passed away since our last trip. This place is as good as ever. We were warmly welcomed and immediately seated and the waiter took our drink orders. The menu is expansive and really makes it hard to decide. The bread is so delicious and filling it's hard not eat too much. The interior is charming and very authentic. The brick walls add to the ambiance. This is definitely a Waco classic.

A Waco institution. Authentic Italian food, tasty and legit Italian sauces (not Americanized/Wacoized, watered down drippy sauces). Great salad. Calamari served hot and large portion. Shrimp cacciatore was delicious with perfectly cooked spaghetti. Ziti delicious too, as was the fettuccine alfredo. Our server, Bailee, was terrific (see photo). Friendly and efficient service, and she checked on us regularly. Thanks Bailee for making a great meal even better!

The creamy sauce was absolutely incredible. I had the shrimp scampi along with a blueberry syrup mocktail and I was completely satisfied. Also had a taste of the blueberry martini which was also very good. My friend had the lasagna which she rated at 3 stars and said it was overcooked but the sauce was good. My sister had the lobster ravioli and it was undercooked, too al dente for her liking and was dissatisfied as it was the most expensive thing on the menu. My sister would go back, my friend would not, and i definitely would. Service was very nice. I just looked at my receipt and there is a charge for "rustic bread" so I'm not sure what that is... did they charge us for both the GF crackers AND the bread that should have been included in the appetizer? That's also not cool.

I've had the Chicken Parmesan pasta, the Margherita pizza, and the Pepperoni pizza. Each of them was above average. The Chicken Parmesan came with a nicely breaded and cheese-covered piece of chicken with spaghetti and two pieces of garlic toast. It was good, though it could have used a little more red sauce. Pizzas are available as 20" or 14" pies, and certain ones you can get by the slice. The crust is medium thickness, light, with a soft core and a crispy outside. The Margherita was good but I preferred the Pepperoni. Overall, both pizzas were above average. I especially liked the crispiness of the outside of the crust. They also have salads and wings. I…read morehave already been here for 20 minutes, and honestly it feels like time is moving in slow motion. It's one of those moments where you start off impatient, checking the time every thirty seconds, thinking the line is going to magically start moving faster just because you're watching it. But then you hit this point where you realize you're stuck here no matter what, so you kind of settle into it. It's like accepting defeat, but in a peaceful way. It's funny how waiting in line exposes how restless I can be. I'm so used to jumping from one thing to the next, always thinking ahead, always planning. But right now all I can do is stand here, shuffle forward an inch every couple of minutes, and come up with random thoughts to keep myself entertained. I keep looking around like something interesting might happen, but everyone else looks just as bored and zoned out as I feel. There's this weird shift that happens when you're stuck waiting: your brain starts drifting to stuff you don't normally slow down enough to think about. Like plans you haven't made yet, conversations you need to have, things you've been putting off, or even just how tired you are. My brain is bouncing between "I hope this line goes faster" and "maybe this is good for me." It's almost like being forced into stillness. I can hear the little hum of people talking, the random coughs, the footsteps sliding on the floor, and it all blends together into this background noise that makes the whole moment feel strangely calm. I'm not doing anything productive, but I'm not wasting time either. I'm just... here. Present. Waiting. And sometimes I think moments like this are actually underrated. You get space to breathe, even if it wasn't your choice. And the longer I stand here, the more I realize how often I rush through my days. I always want to get to the "next thing." But right now there is no next thing. There's just this slow-moving line, and me trying to make something out of a situation that would normally annoy me. Honestly, it's almost therapeutic to just let my thoughts spill out without overthinking anything. It's like I'm giving myself permission to just ramble and process whatever pops into my head. If anything, this might be the most productive part of my day, not because I'm accomplishing anything, but because I'm actually slowing down long enough to check in with myself. And the line still hasn't moved much, but I'm starting to care a little less. Maybe I'll be here another 20 minutes. Maybe longer. But at least I'm turning it into something instead of just staring at the back of someone's head and wishing I was somewhere else.
