There are a few parking garages, but even those are a pain because people park like idiots. The parking situation isn't On Swann's fault, but it's an annoying factor. We had reservations well in advance, so we didn't have to worry about a wait. It was reasonably busy for a Saturday at brunch time. The decor and overall ambiance was classy but comfortable, which is great imo. Our server was nice and checked on us a good amount of times. The wait time between ordering our food and it coming to the table felt a bit lengthier than I would typically expect, but the food was delicious so it's hard to even complain about that. I got the short rib hash and a croissant and both items were wonderful. The croissant was flaky and buttery, it comes with a honey dip and butter on the side, would def get again. The short rib hash was also a menu item I would order again - the eggs were cooked perfectly, and I'd say I'm a little picky with how runny my eggs are. These were runny, but not TOO runny. The potatoes had a nice crisp to the outside but nice and soft on the inside, the short rib was so tender, so juicy, it was just a very well rounded, great tasting hash. This was my first time visiting On Swann for brunch, I'll be back for sure, but maybe on a weekday instead of the weekend since it seems to get pretty crowded in the Hyde Park Village area!

We originally planned on bringing some family here for their anniversary but that plan feel through so we made it into a friends catch up dinner. Right off the back LOVED our server Nimah. She was funny, helpful, and attentive. And they are on top of refilling your water so you will never go thirsty. I'm not much of a drinker, so I don't have much to say on that matter. The ambiance was nice. A lot of eclectic paintings on the walls. And loved the outfits of the servers. Very 20's speakeasy. There is a live jazz band that started performing at 7 pm. They were good but at some points it was a bit difficult to speak and listen to those at your table unless you got really close. My meal hit the spot. We started with a charcuterie board for the table. It had a lot of great options like dried apricots, actual honeycomb pieces, and my most favorite cheese, some Brie cheese. The only thing was there was only 4 pieces of bread, one for each of us, which wasn't enough but I guess it made sense not to fill us up too much. For my main meal I had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty and the sweet potato risotto, which a little spicy kick. The only thing I missed was the Brussels sprouts and potatoes but was told that was from the previous chef. But they serve you enough so you definitely will have left overs. Not a big fan of eating in the lounge areas, those are best just for drinks and maybe desserts. But it's definitely a great place to people watch. You will definitely have a meal and a show no matter what. Hopefully can schedule another time to bring my family because I know they would love it.

Our waiter was sweet and helpful with deciding on what sweet bfast to order. We ended up ordering the lemon ricotta pancakes. That was delicious and not too sweet. The lemon ricotta was nice and tangy with good big strawberries. The savory dish we ordered was the quesabirra hash- 10/10 must get! It was on the seasonal menu- but they need to consider keeping it full time because it knocked it out of park. The meat was nicely seasoned and the potatoes were coated in the yummy sauce. I also ordered the mint mocha ice coffee, initially it was very sweet- tasted more like a mint chocolate milk. But after having the savory dish, it was the great way to end the breakfast- so not to bad after all. We cleared both plates. Would come back again!!

It's cafeteria style with pricing by the number of "mains" and sides you choose. We both selected fried chicken and it crispy, seasoned just right and juicy. The sides were plentiful. I chose squash casserole and Mac & cheese. My sister took mashed potatoes/gravy and buttered corn. All good. Price for entree, two sides, buttered roll and drink under $20. It's a black owned business, with a predominately brown staff, and a lot of white patrons. This becomes relevant later in the review. For a while, we were regulars and always got along with everyone in the restaurant. My wife swore they had the best fried chicken in town! As a retired Army War Veteran, I often wear patriotic t-shirts. I have a few t's that display my support for the US Flag and the Veterans who died to defend Her. One day, this did not seem to sit well with the black management; as the Colin Kaepernick incident was still fresh in the minds of most black Americans. The black gentleman who manages the restaurant wasn't his usual jovial self after he saw my t-shirt. After a few visits, I felt a bit unwelcomed only by the black staff. No one else changed. The Black Eyed Pea became my new top restaurant for southern food, but my wife still loved Steph's. So, we continued to go there occasionally, but not as often. After a while, the manager seemed to have returned to his old self and was friendly and joking with us again. After Steph's temporarily closed to give the staff a well-deserved vacation, we started to return as regular customers again. Unfortunately, while eating a bowl of collard greens, a piece of the metal mesh they used to strain the greens got lodged into my gums. This scared my wife as she thought I was choking. I was able to remove the metal wire and I reported it to the manager. He did apologize and recognized that it was from one of his strainers. His final statement to me was "Thank you for understanding." No removal of the contaminated food tray from the line. No replacement side. No complimentary dessert. No refund or discount. At that point, my wife was angry! There are a lot of elderly people who eat there. If one of them had swallowed that wire and was injured, Steph's would have ended up getting sued. Luck was on their side with me not pursuing the matter, but their lack of gratitude and their unwillingness to correct their error got them on my wife's bad side. And we haven't returned since.

We have always been satisfied with the work they have done and the charge was fair for the services rendered. There has been new ownership for at least three years and we have continued to take both of our dogs there about 6 - 8 times per year. While I would consider us loyal , regular customers apparantly the new owner , Shan, apparantley doesnt think so based on the below listed incident. Two weeks ago we took both dogs, Missy and Roscoe, to be groomed and as usual the owner called after three or four hours to inform me that they were ready for pickup. I called a short time later and informed the owner when i expected to be there. When I arrived i spoke briefly with the owner and as usual asked how they behaved and was every thing done that was requested? She informed me that it was and they behaved well. This conversation and payment took approximately five minutes , was not rushed , and required that the owner consult the card on our dogs. Later that evening as I was rubbing the smaller dog I felt a gash in her collar area. Upon closeer examination I noticed an inch long gash and open wound in her neck area. The slice was such that only a scissor or razor could create such a clean straight cut. Obviously she had been cut while being groomed and I had to assume that it hadnt been noticed or brought to the attention of the owner by the groomer. We called the emergency Vet and he informed us to clean it and go to our local Vet immediately the next day. In the morning I called Yuppy Puppy and informed the woman who answered ( thus alerting the owner of course) of the situation and she informed me that the owner had not arrived yet. I called back a short time later and the owner immediately went the offensive informing me that Missy had the gash prior to coming in and that the Student who was grooming her ( another surpise of course) brought it to her attention prior to doing the grooming. Yet they went ahead and washed , cut and groomed her despite a gaping wound ( actually one large and two smaller gashes) and never thought to inform us before doing the grooming, during the two telephone conversations regarding picking up the dogs or during the lengthy conversation upon picking them up and paying for the groomings. When I informed her that as a professional person and us as long term customers I would expect she would take responsibility for their actions. She became extremely aggressive and said she would not accept that responsiblity , authorized the Student to proceed with the grooming despite the wounds and saw no reason to inform me on either phone conversation or when picking up the dogs. This is a woman who trains future groomers who will have collectively thousands of dogs in their care over their careers! This is the example she sets for them and this is the way she acts towards a long standing good customer!! The fact that she saw no reason to inform us before or after the grooming that the dog had an injury that we were told by our Vet could have infected and festered very easily is outrageous. If you dare put your animals in the hands of this woman I would forewarn you that she should certainly not be licensed for this service, should never be allowed to run a teaching academy and definitely should not be running a business. I will do all I can to insure no one else or their animals are subjected to this treatment. Stay away from The Yuppy Puppy for your animals sake. I only give one star due to the system.
