I took my 3-year old Boxer for the trial and he was in a happy state when I walked him out. I'd never taken him to the doggie day care before. Since he got along fine with the rest of the pack during the trial period (he is of submissive nature), I had no hesitation of leaving him there for a full day. This review is for the boarding services only. The pros: airy, big space that is fairly clean considering the paw-traffic. Owner is a very nice fellow and staff truly seem to care about the well-being/happiness of the dogs. The cons: My pup contracted a terrible case of kennel cough here. I know it is a common enough ailment, but I suspect the bortadella vaccine is not a requirement. A week of boarding + tip, $460 dollars is WAY too much to pay for a sick dog (in addition to the now necessary vet bills, no less). Very disappointed and sadly, will not be returning to this business. read more

Wonderful customer service and facility! I booked my dog, Kiwi's, boarding last minute before our vacation and they got us in for a test and reservation in a day. We did the same with in-home cat sitting for two within 24 hours. Really appreciated the cat sitter's (Andrea) detailed updates and the car she provided. This review is for daycare: We brought our Mattie in for the evaluation yesterday and were very impressed and happy with the staff. It was our first time ever bringing her to daycare and I'll admit, I felt like a mama sending off her baby to school on the first day! Evaluations are scheduled at certain time slots throughout the week and we were able to make it just in time for the Monday slot at 11AM. From my first initial phone call to the moment we walked out the door - the entire staff was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and super friendly and sweet to both our dog and my boyfriend and I. Dropping her off was so easy. We filled out forms, they brought her back right away, and next thing ya know - I was told she was off in the main room playing. The minimum for evalutions is 2 hours, but we elected to leave her for 5 hours so she can get acclamated and since it was a flat fee of $25 for the evaluation anyway. She had the pleasure and joy of playing around with the rest of the daycare doggies which was perfect since it was a rainy day anyway. We left, went on our way, and were told that they give a tour of the facility when you come back for pick-up. This was silly to me at first, but worked out well. I would've had a hard time or distracting our pup if we were able to go back there when we first dropped her off. Pick-Up was super easy! We checked in and were greeted at the front. The ladies were so very friendly and we were given a "report card and acceptance letter" saying that our pup had passed and was welcome back for boarding and daycare! Walking back, there is a huge room that was very open. Everything was organized from bins for leashes, to baskets with bedding for pets that are boarding, to another shelf with food and medications. The main room was very open and maintained while secure. Seeing our little pup making her way to the front gate made my heart melt. We were shown the separate area for boarding which was very open as the crates were in a circle so the pups can see eachother. I was very pleased with their organization and set-up. Our Mattie didn't want to leave when we came to pick her up! That tells you enough that she had so much fun. Daycare is easy and you can drop off your doggie early in the AM (6:30AM, with pick-up as late as 7:30PM -- perfect for those who work early shifts or longer days). The fees differ of course, but I think pricing is fair and I'll definitely be bringing our Mattie back! Yesterday was perfect for rainy days when she can't play at the dog park. She went straight to sleep once we got in the car. What a pleasant experience. read more

I was in a bind and needed to board my two dogs for the weekend last minute in early August; DPnCC couldn't have been nicer. They take the 2-hour evaluation seriously to make sure the dogs are compatible with others and will not only tolerate the play groups, but enjoy them -- even my shy, older dog who doesn't usually like boarding environments made new friends there. You can tell that Ryan, the owner, loves dogs and wants them to be cared for really well; he and his staff were terrific. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it's an indoor facility and in a perfect world they'd have outdoor space too, but for an indoor home-away-from-home experience where the dogs play and have fun, it's the best! read more

We've taken our dog Lily here for three different multi-night boardings and I (and our pooch) could not be happier with the service we've received. This is a bit different than what you might imagine a kennel to be like. For starters, it's in a tired-looking former grocery/chain store in a strip mall. Don't let that put you off, however, because it is spotless inside and there is tons of space for the dogs to run around and play. They also get private walks throughout the day to give them a breather and reinforce their housebreaking. Speaking of playing, Lily now knows what's coming so she gets very excited as soon as we pull into the DPCCU parking lot. She also comes home clean, happy and exhausted from whilin' out with all her friends. They are very flexible and low-key about pick-ups and drop offs, which is nice since we live in the District. In fact, there are a ton of little things that they get right with the service, like how friendly all the staff are and the pictures they post on Facebook daily. The owner, Ryan, is almost always there and he takes pains to make sure you and your dog are totally comfortable. Truly a five star experience! read more

I love this place and am so glad my friend referred me to them. I foster dogs from a great rescue organization and some of them can be leash aggressive so was never sure if they would be good in an open setting. Luckily, they will do a one day trial for day care to see if your dog will be okay. An added plus for those that foster is the trial daycare session is free. :) Daycare is great for me for those days when I know I am going to be out after work or gone most of the day on a weekend. Plus, if you can't pick up or drop off your dog, you can order pet taxi. The staff do take pictures of the dogs so you can try to search the night of to see if your dog is in the pictures. I used to have another dog walker but he unfortunately wasn't reliable so I decided to use them for my dog walking. I always know when they are coming since they email to confirm and if I have to cancel I can cancel until 9AM the morning of. If you need a regular walking schedule their price is cheaper for that. I've gotten my foster's nails clipped while she was at daycare and they did a good job. With the new loyalty app from Loyal Blocks, I got a free bag of treats today. The staff is super friendly, knew who my foster dog was after just a couple visits, and very quick with responding to emails! read more

I've taken my dog here the past two years and also had a walker from them. My dog seems to really enjoy going there and always comes home exhausted. He is always so excited to be dropped off. Once had to switch walkers based on feedback from people in my apartment, but they were accommodating. Overall very happy especially with walker Brandi. The staff seem nice and they have always done an excellent job in fulfilling last minute requests and have never made a fuss when I needed to cancel or reschedule though late fees may apply. Also appreciate the taxi service and the fact that they changed their hours to open at 6:30 AM which makes it easier to get to work on time. The only thing I would say is that they don't necessarily have many perks for customer loyalty. My sister takes her dog to another place that regularly gives her free days for being a recurring customer and also has cameras and gives funny report cards. It'd be nice if they had more regular perks available, but they treat the dogs well so I'm happy enough to take my dog there. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dog Paws University, from the automated billing service to the great hours and wonderful staff. My dog has always been very nervous around new people and places, and the owner took a special interest in her and worked directly with her to slowly integrate her into daycare. In addition, when I set up a dog walk for the first time, the owner went with the dog walker, who had never met my dog before, in order to introduce them, and even called me after to let me know that it had gone well. The transformation in my dog since she began going to Dog Paws is unbelievable. She's not nearly as scared of new things anymore, and she actually makes doggy friends now! Before, she would never play with new dogs at the dog park, and now she never wants to leave. I'm thrilled to have a place like Dog Paws where my dog can get some extra play time, and I love the fact that they weren't just interested in the "easy" cases. You can tell that every employee there genuinely loves animals, and they realize that dogs are our "kids," and we worry just like normal "parents." I also love the fact that every employee knew my dog by sight and name within a few short weeks! I also boarded my dog here, for the very first time. Dog Paws called me the next morning to let me know she was fine, and my dog walked out the next morning with a huge smile on her face! I would not hesitate to use any service here (and I've used most by now). If you're looking for a great place for your pet to have some fun, this is it! read more

This is a review for their daycare, boarding, and pet taxi services (I haven't used their grooming services - yet). As others have mentioned, it can be a bit hard to spot DPnCC when you're driving in as they're kind of in a back corner off the main road. However, once you know where they are, I find them to be easily located, and it has the added bonus of being a bigger facility than some I've seen. Our pup loves going to daycare and is always happy and tired when I get him back at the end of the day. They always post pictures and videos on their Facebook page, and I spend more time than I should while at work going through photos looking for him! Their prices are reasonable - in fact, I think they were the cheapest of the daycares I looked at in the area by a dollar or two, and they offer memberships and packages that get you further discounts. When you first sign up, they do a trial day to make sure your pup fits in with the pack, which is basically a free full day of daycare. They'll also give you a tour of the facility, etc., and they feed and give medications with no additional charge, which is great for those days when Fido refuses to eat his breakfast. We recently boarded our dog for the first time, just for one night, and that also seemed to go well. They crate the dogs in a big room so the dogs can look at/hear each other, but the crates don't touch, and even our dog, who hates his crate at home, seemed to like this set-up, since he spent the whole night in his crate with no incident. If your dog just can't handle a crate, they also have "zones" with little cots where your dog can sleep alone without a crate. Another service they offer, which I love, is their pet taxi service. It's super convenient and definitely helps out on those days when schedules just won't fall into place. In my opinion, it's reasonably priced, and it's a service that a lot of places don't offer. My only complaint - and this is really very minor - is that I wish we would get a "report card" like other places do. The staff is always more than happy to give a verbal report, but having to ask them makes me feel like a helicopter pet parent. Our dog is a rescue and has only been with us since September, so especially as he's still settling into our family, I like to have all the information I can get about how he's doing. I did ask them once why they don't do report cards and they said that doing them for so many dogs would take time away from actually taking care of the dogs, and they'd rather verbally answer any specific questions we have about how our dog did. While I understand this policy, I don't often have specific questions - I just want to know how our dog did in general - so it would be nice if they allowed us to request report cards. (Once our dog has been with us for longer, I expect I'll become less helicopter-y...haha.) Our dog was a rescue through Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, with whom DPnCC also partners! It's great to know that we're using a company that gives back - they board many HTAR dogs and cats there (including ours before we got him). read more

My dog likes it here! I was nervous about bringing him to daycare b/c he has had some reactive issues on the leash. They eased him into it, putting him with similar, calm smaller dogs at first, then as he did well he got to play with the big pups. I was referred to DPnCC by a dog trainer who I brought in to help with my skittish dog. I was worried he wouldn't pass the evaluation, but they took care to introduce him slowly and he did just fine. He is always totally happy to get dropped off for boarding, and completely exhausted when he gets back! Staff is friendly and responsive by email, which is also a big plus. read more

I had taken my dogs here multiple times. They never seems too excited when I picked them up and their toe nails always seemed longer then when I dropped the off. I would always mention clipping their toe nails, but guess that was too much to handle. It wasn't until we were out of town one weekend and I got them groomed by someone in the area that I realized my dogs will NEVER go back to Dog Paws. One of my dogs toe nail was so over grown it was growing back into its paw. Unexceptionable!! Be aware!!! read more

We visited Homeward Trails today to check out some cats and dogs up for adoption. Our apartment doesn't lend itself well to larger pets so we were hoping to find a smaller pet. They recommended we go to Dog Paws 'n Cat Claws and arrange an appointment to visit available cats. It was on the way home, so we figured we would stop by to check out the shop and look at the available pets if possible. Why not, worst case we would walk out with a toy for our cat. We made our way up, and a lone man was smoking outside. We walked in and soon after we were asked, "what do you want?". We turned around and explained we had been looking at dogs. He got rather verbal with us, not really explaining what this location does, but that it couldn't help us. "This is a business" he continued to explain, I think referring that it is not a shelter. When I told him who advised us to come there, (Heather at Homeward Trails) he said I was wrong and she was a liar. He didn't bother to explain that they did have cats, but that no one was there until after we mentioned we are also interested in one or the other. Even then he didn't mention it was by appointment and that no one was available, just that it couldn't be done, that the cat's space was secure. He was hardly friendly, didn't seem like he even liked pets - more like he was miserable and ready to go. I hope Homeward Trails other adoption locations aren't as abrasive as this one. I had a much easier time adopting pets at both BARCS in Baltimore and the SPCA in Philadelphia. At least there the employees weren't calling us liars - were generally helpful, and didn't make us want to immediately leave. i'll most likely turn to other rescue centers in a search for a companion for my current cat. I'm sure this establishment has good groomers and these people love animals . . . at least Greg does. He loves spending time with cocker spaniels. I know this, because he has had my two cocker spaniels ALL DAY LONG. The first time Greg groomed our dogs, he didn't have time to groom both. So we have had one dog who looks normal, and one shaggy, smelly beast. I decided to give him another chance, because I was promised our dogs would be the only two on the schedule. I was warned that the dogs would take longer, because Greg takes his time (again, probably because he loves spending time with our dogs!) with the 9:00 appointment and the 11:00 appointment. THE ONLY TWO. What a nice, easy Friday! So here is the timeline of events: 9:00-I drop the dogs off 9:27-Greg calls me. Asks if I want both dogs groomed. I specify yes, BOTH groomed, BOTH have their teeth cleaned. Greg has a very difficult time hearing me, but we get our points across. (Notice, this is 30 minutes after my appointment started. He was probably cuddling and playing with them!) 4:07-I call to find out when I can expect the dogs. "Oh, 5:30ish,"Greg says, "but I'll call you when they are almost done." Again, he has a difficult time hearing me. I say, "if you could get it done faster, that would be better."(I had to say it several times. Bad connection?) 4:22-I call back and say they dogs better be ready at 5, because that is when I'll be there. I will keep you updated. I just wish Greg would get his own cocker spaniels so I could get mine back. read more

Bark + Board has always been excellent with my dog who does daycare and overnight stays. The employees are caring and remember pets by name. My dog was actually injured while boarding overnight, and Bark + Board handled it in the best way possible - particularly Erin the GM, which I very much appreciated and was impressed by. Every business experiences some mishaps - mistakes happen and how they're handled is often more important than the fault itself. I still bring my dog here and I feel he is safe and well taken care of in spite of the incident, which I think speaks volumes. I still recommend Bark + Board to my friends and family and will continue to do so. 5 stars! read more

Excellent customer service! The ladies at the front desk always had a smile on their faces and greeted my puppy, Bash warmly every time we came in. It was clear from his demeanor how well he was treated here, he would always get excited to go inside. I primarily used their services for daycare for about four months. My only complaint is how dirty my pup would be upon pick up but it is to be expected when playing with other dogs all day. All in all I would definitely bring Bash here again. We drop our dog off here ever now and then to let her get her energy out. We've also used them to board her for 2 weeks and they took good care of her. She did come in to contact with canine papilloma, but I can't fault them for that. It'd be like getting mad at your kid's nursery for letting your kid catch something from another kid - that stuff happens. Our dog was fostered here for a few months until we adopted him. Dex loved it there and we brought him back a few times after we adopted him and it was like he was home all over again. The staff is very friendly and the dogs have lots of room to romp around in the different areas. We would recommend DPNCC to anyone close by. Dog Paws 'n Cat Claws did us a tremendous favor in accepting our dog at the last minute for boarding in an emergency. I had to rush to the airport and they took our dog for multi-night boarding on 15 minutes notice. Our dog is shy around men and a bit anxious when separated from us. Another cage free boarding business in the area (Woofs) refused to accept our dog because she was nervous upon arrival. Woofs did this despite approving our dog with an evaluation and a half-day of day care two weeks prior. This severely impacted our travel plans as we were turned away two hours before our flight. We went to DPNCC and were saved. Our dog ran right up to Ryan (owner) and began playing in the cage free area with other dogs almost immediately. I was sent an invoice prior to my credit card being charged in the event anything was incorrect with billing. This was especially helpful given how quickly we dropped our dog off. I am new to the area and originally took my dog to another daycare near Dog Paws (see my other review) and he hated it. After the horrible incident at the other daycare, I started on the search once again for a new one. After looking at the reviews on here about DPNCC, I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I got a more positive vibe. At the evaluation, I explained what had happened at the other daycare and how they asked me to not bring my dog back, as well as some issues we were having at home due to the move. Jeannie and company were so understanding. Ryan, the owner, is fantastic, along with Amanda and everyone else I met. I took my dog back the next day to play for a longer period of time. I was so happy to find that he jumped up when we pulled up and he was scratching to get out of the car and play. I left him for five days while going out of town and he had a blast. I wish they had a web cam so you can see your dog playing during the day but they do post pics on Facebook daily. Other than that, DPNCC is great! read more

They're charging me $25 for a pet sitting consultation when they didn't provide the service. When I called to dispute the charge the receptionist Lisa accused me of lying instead of apologizing for failing to provide a service. I would say this place is not at all reputable. read more

I can't tell you how guilty I feel when I leave town without my dog nanuk. The only thing is I think he loves it! Every time I get him back (besides being exhausted from playing with the other dogs) he is more socialized. I think he now looks forward to me leaving town! The staff are also super friendly and professional-you can tell they love to work there. If you ever need a solid place for your dog when you are heading out, don't hesitate coming here.
