After reading all the positive reviews here and on google, I signed up online to schedule a consult. When they called me, I couldn't get any clear answers over the phone of what their training style is, only that they have "40 years worth of secrets". I would caution you to ask a lot of questions before booking an in-person consult ($300 for the consult). I ultimately decided against booking the consult after going on Reddit and reading all the negative experiences others had. I was very clear about not wanting to do punishment or fear based training, and the only reviews I could find that specifically state their training methods are all fear/punishment based. When I asked if that was the case, I couldn't get a clear answer, other than "every dog has their own plan" and it's "behavior based training". They told me that they can't give me a specific training plan until after the consult, but when I asked for just their general framework or style of training, they couldn't give an answer on that either. Based on the only reviews that share their actual training style, it sounds like the training plans involve making a lot of loud noises to startle the dog, shaking chains near them, and spraying water on them when they do something you don't like. I don't have actual experience with any of the trainers at Bark Busters, only with the person who schedules consults (who was very kind and this review is not directed at him, but at their style in general) but I wanted to write this review for others to do their own due diligence. It seems like they may have a lot of fake reviews, or at least reviews from people specifically looking for punishment based training. Research shows these are not effective methods, and it's definitely not something I'm looking for. If I'm wrong, and Bark Busters has other training methods that aren't punishment based, please feel free to respond to this review with a clear answer on those other methods. AMAZING results after just one visit. Just like others have said. I was skeptical because it's pricey for me, and I just did not believe my chihuahua-dachshund mutts could possibly be trained. But their scattershot barking was starting to give me multiple near-heart attacks a day, so I decided it was time to do something. Lori was calm, friendly and SO knowledgeable. And her techniques worked instantly! We were shocked. It's been a couple of weeks now, and I can tell that it's really dependent on me - how consistent I am about working with the dogs. But it truly only takes a few minutes a day to keep things really smooth with them, and most of the exercises actually fit right into my daily schedule with the dogs so they don't even take extra time. My dog Layla and I worked with Lori in 2017, and I feel like I am far enough out that I know the true results of the training and can review. The positives - Layla quit barking when hearing outside noises from inside the house. That's awesome! The bad - The real issue, reactive/aggressive behavior on-leash never changed. Even worse, it truly is scare tactic training. Layla is a rescue and I've always had the aggression issues with her while walking. The "bah" noise, clapping, spray water bottle, chain noise makers and even baggies of water thrown/burst in front of her were progressively reccomended and used, and all of them turned Layla into a scared, nervous dog. She was scared of me, scared of areas where we walked. And none of them worked when she was reactive. Lori's diagnosis of the problem was always that I was afraid to be mean and should be more stern with Layla. Yes, Layla did well when Lori was with us (she came twice), but we never ran into situations where other dogs were unavoidable when with her. So basically, if your dog doesn't have major issues with reactivity and you're just looking to fix issues with barking or begging, this is probably a good option. However, I paid a ton of money and all we got was a lot of anxiety, for me and Layla. read more

We are so happy with Bark Busters, but we are especially thrilled with our trainer, Lori Carr. This is the third dog-trainer we have tried, and she is absolutely the best we have experienced. Lori has been to our home twice now to assist us, and both times she took her time to show us exactly how to achieve what we wanted with our pup, Justice. And Justice responded right away! Some things took longer than others, but we saw a difference in his behavior immediately. Lori really showed us how to communicate with Justice in a way he could understand. In other words: she taught us to talk to him "like a dog." Once we started the training we also started to notices changes in his behavior we weren't even expecting! One example: he's become much more respectful of our "people areas" now. And, while she's very knowledgeable, she also couldn't be more fun to be around! Ok I'm impressed! We have 2 dogs that are horrible! They pee in the house, jump up on the table, chew up diapers, bark at the door. Basically horrible dogs. I used Bark Busters a couple of years ago and felt like it was a real failure. The trainer spent an hour with me and my two dogs, taught me how to grunt (srsly), and gave me a spray bottle. We did some on-leash walking outside and that was it. The problem my dogs have (and this was, obviously, shared with the trainer) is that they are both *very* dog aggressive. Nothing that I learned (which wasn't much) was related to that specific behavioral problem. I'm shocked to see any positive reviews for this service. Lori is excellent and is easily the best Austin dog training experience you can have. She is warm and has a very straightforward way to train owners to work with their dogs. After watching Caesar Milan videos, reading books, and running into headaches, we called her and we instantly felt better about issues with our dog. He is barking way less and feels completely under our control. Our dog had issues pulling while being walked (gone), barking out the strangers when they passed the house (90% improved), barking and jumping on guests (huge improvement), and afraid to walk on wooden floors (way better). I read reviews about this company before I gave them a call and it seemed to be sufficient in their training. So I called and they set me up with Lori and scheduled an appointment for her to come over for an in-training session. She was very polite and helpful of understanding her work and how to train my puppy. My pup was a little weird about the whole training session because he wasn't used to it. But I saw results immediately. I could never get him to stop jumping on me constantly but with her technique he stop within a few tries. Walks were impossible with him pulling and jumping and barking. And again with her technique that she trained me to do, he was a brand new pup that I could finally walk calmly. Lori was so great with my dog Jack. He is a 9 year old lab who has some newly developed bad habits. Leash pulling, barking excessively to get his way, and chasing cats outside. Lori trained us and fixed us so our dog could then be a dog last year. Ha. But seriously, one year later we had problems with Sunny barking at the gate when it opened and barking and jumping on people at the front door. A year later just like the Bark busters guarantee says, Lori came out without judgement and fixed the problem and re instituted exercises that we had gotten lax in creating the problem in the first place. Lori is wonderful! I contacted her about my Shiba Inu because he was being aggressive with neighborhood dogs. She responded so quickly and made training as convenient as possible. We wound up training my 11 year old Boston Terrier as well because it became quite apparent during our first visit that he needed it. After two visits, I can see a huge change in both of my pups. I have tried other methods of training and they just didn't work. Lori teaches you how to become the alpha of your pack without using intimidation or constantly handing out treats. We have a 3yo puggle and 10mo hound mix who ran and ruined our home. After 2 meetings with Lori I have fallen in love with these dogs all over again! The puggle would run out of the front door any chance he got...including the first day Lori came over. She got the pleasure of helping us lure him back home. Now he doesn't come close to the door even with it wide open!! The hound pup was destroying carpet, shoes, chairs, pillows, etc but has been on the longest streak of not eating things! Lori is amazing!!!! After one session my 18 month old rescue puppy was completely trained ! I have raised 10 dogs , worked at Austin Pets Alive, and taught yoga to dogs. In all my experiences I have never seen a dog respond this quickly to any training method . I LOVE the fact that her method does not use treats to bribe your dog! I want to be able to control my dog at any moment in any situation with my voice and body language. Lori teaches this, and it works like a charm! While training with Lori if I ever have a question I call or email and she responds promptly with an answer. She is a very positive person and my dog loves her! I don't really think she needs to come back to train us , but she is such a joy to work with I would miss her if she didn't. I think my dog would miss her too!
