Brought my dog here for board and train for leash reactivity. Cathy was his trainer for 2 weeks and he loved it and was so much better after! She was super responsive and sent me constant photo and video updates of him and his progress. Unfortunately I can genuinely say that I did not have a good experience at Taurus Academy. Most of the workers there are nice and friendly. The communication via text is great, very quick replies when it's benefiting them ( booking daycare, services, etc) however if you want to receive feedback on your dog, don't expect a quick response, if at all. It seems like if your dog isn't enjoying themselves there, then don't expect a response. However if your dog is doing well and having a great time with other dogs, then you'll get a reply over text. My other complaint is on the first day of daycare I texted a few times throughout the day to inquire about how my dog is doing there. No reply. I got worried so eventually texted to let them know that if I need to pick him up soon I can. No reply. Keep in mind, when it came to any other inquiries I had such as booking days or adding any other services, they reply in less than 5 minutes. With this matter, I received no replies. Being a concerned dog parent, and with this being his first day of real daycare there, I was freaking out because I didn't receive ANY replies the entire day. When I picked him up I asked the ladies at the front desk about it and the attendant who was tending to my dog came out from the back and said he was doing just fine. He just wasn't as playful. Why couldn't they just texted me that knowing full well I was worried about him throughout the day? The third and last time I dropped him off there I had requested to have a progress report and didn't mind paying for it. I never received one. Again it was with the same attendant. I inquired about it and they couldn't tell me why I didn't receive one and just said I wouldn't be charged for it. The final straw that made me decide never to trust Taurus Academy again was the following morning after a day of daycare at Taurus Academy, my dog started having frequent watery diarrhea, with tinges of blood. I didn't give him anything different at home. The only thing I could allude it to is what he was given as treats at Taurus. They give the dogs treats when they command the dogs to do something. For example every time I pick up my dog, they'll have him sit before they let him out. When he sits, they'll give him a treat. So I texted Taurus yesterday and told them about my dog having diarrhea and asked what types of treats were given to my dog. They replied with no one gave him anything in the morning and they'll check on the afternoon crew. Well I took my dog in at noon, so of course no one could give him anything treats in the morning. I didn't mention that to them. I was just waiting for a follow up text regarding the afternoon and evening crew. I received nothing about the later crew. The service at Taurus is terrible. Taurus Academy in Burnet may appear nice and great on the surface. However, if there's any occurrences or concerns that may arise with them, do NOT expect prompt replies and accountability. They will be very vague and sketchy. Communication will be very short, if any at all. All in all, the first week of daycare at Taurus was a disappointment and I'll be taking my dog somewhere else. All in all, Taurus at Burnet seems nice and pretty on the surface, however not so much on the inside if problems occur. It is pretty sketchy. I also didn't like the idea that they don't have cameras in the play yard. That also doesn't give me a good feeling about what exactly goes on there. I've taken my dog to two other doggie daycares and both had cameras that run all day long. (I moved and therefore had to find another daycare for my dog and thought Taurus would be good. I can not say enough good things about Taurus Burnet. My girl Molly goes to daycare almost every Sunday morning. She walks in and you can just tell she knows she's going to have the best day ever! Taurus Burnet Rd absolutely knocked it out of the park with my two pups -- the staff treated us with such warmth and confidence that even my normally car‑anxious dog rode home in zen‑mode silence, and both dogs crashed into the kind of deep, happy sleep that only comes from a full day of joyful play. The team clearly understood each dog's personality (and had a pretty good handle on my anxiety with one very vocal pup (mine) at drop-off), handled the drop‑off chaos with humor and skill, and sent them home looking proud of themselves and totally at ease. Not sure how this place has 4 stars with their deceptive practices. 1. They gave my puppy the WORST first cut. It is uneven, choppy and obviously done with clippers. The stylist got everything wrong and looks like she was still in training by the looks of my dog. 2. They lied and said I was getting half back. They only gave me 40$ I will be disputing all charges due to the horrible job done and deceptive practices. If you cherish your puppy's hair please avoid trusting this establishment . You guys should be ASHAMED for this work instead of trying to short change me. Y'all are DEAD WRONG. She's is so sweet, knowledgeable and my dog responds so well. He was taken very good care of! The training is really great - I have the tools to continue to train and work at home. Literal tears. Biscotti has done a few "board and trains" at Taurus and we think it's a great value. The extra attention is honestly what we're paying for and being a better dog is just a bonus. The board and train comes with three "in home" visits after you do the boarding and we were most recently with trainer Loren. (Love her!) Well after our visit, our pup came down with IVDD (degenerative disease) which was emotionally devastating. Going from being a spry pup to not being able to use her hind legs overnight ... it's a doozy. She went into emergency surgery over at AVES and it looks like she'll make a major, if not full, recovery. While Biscotti was recovering we had to cancel our training appointment. Soon after we received the sweetest "get well soon" card from everyone at Taurus Burnet. During some of our darkest days, a simple card was a shining beacon of joy and goodness. The messages were super sweet and we all cried big alligator tears (a few times). It wasn't expected, wasn't required, but personal touches like that really make a big difference. Despite the high ratings for Taurus Academy, our experience was significantly disappointing, marked by two concerning incidents. Initially, our attempt to secure a Christmas boarding reservation was mishandled, causing unnecessary stress. More alarmingly, shortly after our dog received a nail trimming during a subsequent stay, we received a call that our dog had a severely twisted and bleeding nail requiring an immediate emergency veterinary visit and its eventual surgical removal. While the direct cause of the injury remains unclear, it occurred immediately following their nail trimming service. Taurus offered no clarification or acceptance of responsibility and instead sent a passive-aggressive email roughly one week later trying to shift the blame to how we handled the situation (btw we never received a call or email checking on our dog's health). Given our firsthand experiences, particularly the serious injury our dog sustained in close proximity to their service and the subsequent unprofessional communication, we strongly recommend that pet owners exercise extreme caution when considering Taurus Academy. read more

This is THE BEST PLACE IN AUSTIN to take your dogs for the day, for grooming, for training, even a long stay while your on vacation. I have been taking my Ruby there weekly since March, and I have never had a problem ever. Everyone is super-friendly, and I know I'm getting my money's worth when I see how happy and worn-out my dogs are after having fun all day. I can't ask for more. Just going to pop in and obnoxiously love on our friends at Taurus again. Lightning Bug stayed with them again this Easter, and they now offer the opportunity for boarding dogs to purchase some one-on-one time with balls or games of tug. It was a hard trip, and getting a little report card about how much our dog loved ball time (I know) and tug time (oh gosh) just made me feel so grateful to have Taurus on our team. Our rescue dog was very skittish and barked at everything, making walks difficult. We watched a ton of YouTube videos which all said mostly the same thing but we had a hard time applying the methods and getting them to work. We found several well-reviewed dog trainers but got sticker shock. We then found Taurus who sent out a trainer for a more than reasonable fee to show us what we were doing wrong in our application of the training. She was awesome. She showed us what to do on our own, and it's been a slow process (two months so far), but our dog's barking is down probably about 75% so far. We wish we'd found Taurus sooner. read more

We have a nervous/anxious poochie so going to drop off for boarding can be challenging. When we walked in to Taurus Ashley B immediately recognized our poochie with a warm welcome. We chatted about how our girl is a nervous one. Ashley let me know that she puts out girl with the older calmer dogs to make sure she has a pleasant play time. She also shared a trick she does to make sure our girl eats all of her food. It's very reassuring to know our poochie is in caring hands when we are leaving her overnight. I love this place, and even better, my pup loves this place. But my review is going to specifically be about the dog trainer, Lizbeth, that works at this location. Lizbeth is the DOG BOMB! Seriously, don't be fooled by her sweet demeanor and bad ass style. This girl is an alpha when it comes to leading the pack. She can put dogs in their place and teach humans to be tough and confident in their training of their four legged friends. She is always so sweet to my little Frankie, she sends me pictures and videos and always responds quickly when I am needing to see my guy. I actually want to tell you not to book her because I want her to myself, but it would be a disservice to your pup if they couldn't be loved and trained by this amazing dog loving woman. read more

After boarding our dog here for three nights, I went to go pick him up to bring him home. Only after asking the gal at the front desk how he did for the weekend she let me know he had given himself a pretty big gash from "flipping up his dog bowl" and asked assumingely if he did this at home as well. After I told her no, he definitely did not, and she suggested he needed medication to be boarded. We have boarded our dog at other places such as The Pet Ranch and he has never had this issue and he always comes safe and happy. We are so sad we picked up our sweet energetic dog with such a wound. Taurus Academy Burnet - Pet Training Near Me - Austin, Texas

We're big fans of Taurus Academy's Burnet location. We've boarded our puppy twice for extended times, and both times we feel we got good value for our money. We took her here initially because this location was more responsive than the airport and McNeil locations when we called about getting her a trial evaluation day. Not only did the Burnet folks pick up the phone, they got her scheduled for an evaluation day the following weekend. Our evaluation fee got waived when we signed up for the two week train and board program. For $1,200, we got two weeks training, lots of fun pictures and videos sent to us during our honeymoon, and the comfort of knowing our dog-child was doing more than just living in a box for two weeks. I like that they have the doggie day care on site, so there were a variety of dogs for our pups to socialize with, and the staff were more used to playing with and training the dogs as opposed to boarding at a veterinarian clinic. The other benefit of the boarding program was three in home visits after the boarding with a trainer, so we were able to work through some of the issues we continue to have, like recall and barking when someone rings the doorbell. In fact, we were able to mention our December travels during the final home visit, and it make boarding and training with the Burnet location a no-brainer, even though we no longer live in that neighborhood. Only downsides here for me are the staff turnover (we miss Vikki, our original dog trainer, though her colleague Lizbeth is great) and the lack of grass at this location--dogs toilet on rocks instead of grass and we'd rather keep her potty training consistent. Otherwise, this location is a great value to the Austin community. read more

I really wanted to love Taurus, but I was left under-whelmed. I used to bring my low-to-medium energy staffie (that specializes in couch snuggles and dog napping) to this location shortly after it opened. Everyone was very nice and they were great with my dog, Benny. I especially loved the personal touch of the report card and the 'surprise gift' that they send you in the mail -- such cute ideas! However, I found that my dog was never very tired when I picked him up from Taurus. It seemed like he hadn't received much play time and I know it doesn't take much to wear my little dummy out. No one ever really remembered me or my dog, either, which I thought was a bit odd since he went there for both play dates and boarding. That being said, I have several friends that bring their dogs to Taurus and are very pleased with them. They are definitely worth a try, they just didn't work out for us. read more

I love leaving my staffie mix, Felix, at Taurus Burnet because the staff members are all dog trainers. When I return from my trip, it's obvious that Felix has had a behavior tune-up at Taurus. For example, Felix struggles with being an Excessively Excited Extrovert when interacting with humans - this behavior has been hard to curb because most people respond positively to his exuberance, thus reinforcing it. After a five-day stay at Taurus, Felix calmly greeted our house guests and kept four (paws) on the floor when saying hello. Felix's positive playtime with other pups at Taurus has reduced his reactivity to dogs when we're on walks. We were recently rushed by a growling, off-leash dog, and Felix immediately walked away from him, which I attribute to the Taurus team teaching him good manners with other canines. We also appreciate that Taurus evaluates dogs as individuals, and don't discriminate based on breed. Four paws up! read more

We take our 2.5 year old husky Niya to Taurus every Wednesday for play days and she loves it. My review can only comment on the play days since we haven't utilized any of the training or the boarding but if those are anything like what they get during play days, I am sure they are worthy of 5 stars. Niya gets so excited when we take her to Taurus which tells us she enjoys being there. She would be the first to let us know if something was wrong since she takes a little time to warm up to people. All of the trainers seem nice and love caring for all of the dogs there. We have been going for over 1.5 years now and Taurus really seems to appreciate all of their customers, both the two and four legged. read more

I love this place so much! We have a pittie mix and a super mutty not sure what he is mix that is nervous by nature. Sci has been rejected by daycares because of his breed and Boone because of his nervous energy. I was so thrilled to learn about how play groups are built specifically for the dog and that Taurus does not discriminate based on breed. Sci can hang out with a group that matches his personality and Boone can hang out with the people because he doesn't want to play with the dogs. I really appreciate their approach and knowing that I have a safe place to leave them when we are out of town. read more

My wife, Carolyn and I love the Burnet location of Taurus Academy! That is where our Australian Shepherd, Lincoln was trained as a pup, enjoys random play days and gets boarded when we have to go out of town and leave him. Lincoln is epileptic, and the wonderful staff at Taurus Burnet - Lindsey, Maggie, Debbie, Mackenzie, etc. are so patient and gracious with Lincoln. They love him like he's there own... they also use him as a trainer dog to help with newly trained dogs and reinforce his training. They have bent over backwards for our pup in so many ways! I can't say enough about this location. My dog was so excited - she knew what days she went to Taurus. She got so smart that she thought she could act like we were going in the morning, so she could go every day. They sent me pictures of her on my birthday when I was out of town to celebrate. I was even sad about moving away to give her, her first yard because she was leaving Taurus Burnet. But, they threw her a little going away party when she left to join South Lamar Taurus. We took our rescue pup to Tarus Acadamy for 2 week puppy 'boot camp'. I was stricken with the thought of leaving her for an extended time but it was SO worth it. I was amazed at her progress over that period of time. The staff is AMAZING, explained their process to our entire family (including a 5 yr old). Their positive reinforcement training was eye opening. So effective and so simple: Reward the good, don't punish the bad; a dog's nature is to please. Follow up training is included and a must, they come to your house. Needless to say, we are big fans. Our girl goes back for play days and boarding and she goes berserk when we turn on to Burnet, she knows where she's going. What's better than that?! read more

This review is long overdue. I have a 2 year old Havanese. Her breed is know to be a little more stand offish when it comes to partying with other dogs. We moved here from Cali, I found Taurus and began bringing Bella here for Play Days. At first she was reluctant to go with them. We boarded Bella for almost a week and that changed everything. You know that they are loving to her and really care because Bella goes running in to the reception area and doesn't even look back at me. She is always SO excited to see all the staff. This place requires Canine Influenza inoculation, a shot no boarding faculty has every required and that our vet doesn't recommend. This is a very rare illness that is mostly reported in dog tracks. My vet said the only reason they would require it is if they had an outbreak. There has only been one case in Travis county, ever. Sorry, I'm not going to expose my dog to the risk of unnecessary vaccination because this place wants to limit potential legal liability. read more

My dog Darwin absolutely loves coming here!As a 3 year old pit mix he has a lot of energy and I am so happy we have Taurus in our life. I absolutely trust the good folks at this facility to care for my pup and to enrich his life/keep his entertained while I work my long days. Mornings when we drive here Darwin gets excited because he knows where he is going and how much fun it will be. In the evening when I pick him up he's excited to see me, but falls asleep before we even make it to i35 to head home. We left our pups at Taurus for a long weekend and they loved it. From the "tryout" day to the real deal overnight boarding, the entire experience was pleasant. The facility is clean, the staff is nice, and they even give your dogs a report card that highlights their performances. We will use Taurus again as needed. I couldn't get any information from the girl at the front desk until I spent 30 minutes filling out online info including credit card authorization. While filling this out I overheard customers upset about being charged double due to some error which affected everyone at this location. With my living arrangements and lack of neighborhood dog parks, plus the Texas heat and having to work I decided that I wanted my pup, Casanova, to have some extra play time. After much research, amazing reviews, a recommendation friend/neighbor, and a wonderful orientation I decided on Taurus Academy on Burnet. My Momma's boy of a puppy had no problem there (he normally cries when I leave) played all day, I got a review of his activities and icing on the cake a unexpected package (with a souvenir from his great visit) in the mail today. My dog seemed distressed and eyes really red when I picked him up from boarding. I also had to take him to a vet because he has sensitive skin and from staying there he got a rash that was had bacteria and it made his testicles super red like a tomato and raw (looked very painful). Medicine was expensive for that. read more

Was really excited in signing my dog up for basic training until I met the red haired lady who would'nt introduce herself. Extremely poor service. We asked for info on basic training and she just directed us to the website. She also stated that our puppies have to come in with equipment and that it was on the door in a bitchy way. This review is for boarding only. Our dog seems to love it here, and that is what counts. She comes back happy and well exercised. They have also been flexible with late pickups on more than one occasion when I had car trouble. The facilities are new, and I get the feeling that they do care about your pet and are thoughtful about grouping the right dogs together. For all these reasons, they are still my go-to. If I can nitpick, the main drawback with all Taurus locations is their reservation and intake system. It is downright painful. The online reso goes to a generic account with no internal visibility. This means you can receive an email from someone and reply to it. Then you receive a new and often conflicting email from someone else who apparently had no idea you were already being helped. This has happened multiple times, and I usually have to call to clear it up. Every time we bring her in, they also ask for full background info (stuff that never changes)....meaning it's not saved or organized in their computer system like everywhere else. So f they could just bring their system into this century, they'd be knocking it out of the park. read more
