I ordered from the Octoberfest menu today. It was sooooooo disappointing. Basically, it was a brat on a bun with a teaspoon of mustard and a tablespoon of sauerkraut. The potato pancakes? Ordered a small and a large order of wings tonight for $30 I got less than 15 chicken wings and my portion of my order was undercooked and slimy, very low quality chicken, poorly cooked, more of my sauce in the bottom of my carry out bag than on my wings. I took one bite spit it out they were so bad and threw them all away, definitely ruined my night when looking forward to eating wings and watching the game at home. read more

Average food and over priced. We go on occasion and I'll have the Wildcat chicken sandwich. To change things up a bit, I've tried their hot ham and cheese on a soft pretzel bun but there was nothing soft about the pretzel. It was hard as a rock and crumbly. I live in Florida and we do not have Barleycorn's. When my Dad suggested it as a meetup for several family members when I was in town, I recognized the name from my childhood. I remembered liking it. When I arrived I realized it was basically an Applebee's or Chili's with a basketball court, skee-ball and a few other games. The Skee-ball is probably why I remembered this place fondly. Even though there are only 3 locations, Barleycorn's has a "chain" feel to it. Our service was super slow. To be fair, we had a group of 11. All the same, it was around an hour for our food to show up. The kids in our group were getting very restless and the Parents were forced to allow them to play video games. We had ordered pretty simple food too. Three of the people at our table didn't even order full meals. Another one had a salad. My brother had a chicken wrap. My burger was probably the most complicated thing. I ordered the Bourbon Trail Burger which was basically a burger slathered in bourbon bbq sauce. It was okay. Not great. For $9, I could probably find a much better burger at a different restaurant. I know I can in Florida. I had a great time with my family here, but that had nothing to do with the restaurant or the food. The entire food experience was "meh" at best. I probably would not return even if I did live in the area. read more

Here's the deal with this place--you can have a 2 star experience or a 4 star (thus the 3 rating as an average); here's how: 4 star: sit on the patio (in nicer weather) and order a blackened grouper sandwich. It's not on the menu, but they'll make it for you (same price as the fried grouper sandwich), but make sure to ask for the hoagie roll instead of the rye bread. Almost a neighborhood bar if the prices weren't sooo high. Decent food. But I got eaten alive by bugs. I don't understand why they wouldn't fog or something. It made my whole meal and the rest of the night really uncomfortable. Also towards the end of our meal a whole little league team or something showed up and they sat them at several tables around our table so were surrounded by running, yelling kids and parents all swarming around and mingling. Ate there last night, new menus, but still the same items, minus cheese sticks with marinara. When our server took our drink orders, my wife and a friend asked for a specific type of wine, only to be told they didn't have it. The friend went to the bar and got the wine. Another new thing was the plates that immediately reminded me of Ruby Tuesday, and serving fries in small metal cups (i.e. less) I ordered the steak hoagie with marinara, it was dry, very little sauce, and overall, not very good. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich, asked for extra pickle, only to get her meal with no pickle on the sandwich itself, but a small cup of them on the side. Trash, they have a very rude and disrespectful bartender. He's one of those guys that thinks he is funny but really isn't. There have been multiple instances where my family and I have had bad encounters with the bartender and complained and he still works there. As someone who personally knows the owner and manager and has voiced our displeasure about the disrespectful nature of the bartender and nothing has been done about it. I can not recommend this location or any location for that matter as they are owned by the same family and they continue to employ people who are disrespectful towards their employees. read more

Katelyn and Taylor are absolutely amazing at making sure our food is perfect and keeping our drinks full! Katelyn and i hope I'm spelling that correct made sure to stop by our table and say hello even though she did not have to and was not our server. It's little better things like that that can make customers return and feel welcome. The general manager is keeping the place running well and overseeing that the staff are doing a great job! Earlier in the day, a Saturday, I'd had a craving for Buffalo style sauce and since we were going to be at the Porter Paint in Alexandria, I thought we'd go to BW3's. Then I remembered there was a UK game on...so I elected that we try out Barleycorns where, yes, there would be sports, but perhaps less of it, and surely, buffalo style something. Like the other reviewer, I found their "charge" for everything a bit offputting. I ordered the appetizer portion of buffalo tenders, and a side of the saratoga chips. My dining partner ordered a burger ($1.50 higher than my appetizer order) and a side of the pasta salad. When we got our food, mine had turned into a "platter" with coleslaw, which I didn't ask for...and I was charged $10.00 for what would have been a $8.25 meal MAX--just like my dining partner. When I asked about the price jack-up, our server, who had only been back by the table once to see if we were alright, said, "um...I don't know...I guess when you add all those things together, it's more expensive." How about: I didn't add cole slaw or a platter price--that was your doing! So, I tipped her for the price of the meal that I actually ORDERED. The food was fine--it was sportsbar food and that's what I wanted. But as far as attentive, accomodating service, meh. I've experience WAY better. read more

Barleycorn's is a great place for some casual dining, drinking, sports watching, or just hanging out with family and friends. The food is on par with other sports/casual spots. We started with the pretzel sticks and fried pickles. We had to send the sticks back as they were still cool in the middle but were delicious after being re-heated. The fried pickles were piping hot and also very good. I got the fried shrimp basket and I wasn't blown away or anything but it was what I expected. I should have tried one of the burgers, which apparently get high praise according to a wall poster on the bathroom mirror. I should say that the dumpling soup got two big thumbs up from someone else in our party. They have skee ball, pinball, and even a mini basketball court and hoop to keep the kids occupied. We were there with a couple toddlers so I can say they had a great time. Barleycorns is worth putting on anyone's dining out rotation. read more

We have been going there frequently the last few months solely for the Grouper Fingers and the Eggplant appetizers. Get the Fingers with cocktail sauce instead of the remoulade. We took our mothers and even they liked both appetizers. We make a meal of it. read more

We chose to work with Barleycorns to cater our wedding in August. We presented quite a challenge for Jeanna and team as our wedding was held an hour and a half from their location. Throughout every step of the way Jeanna and her fantastically dedicated team blew us away! We looked into several other catering companies before meeting with Barleycorns. At the tasting we were so impressed with the presentation! The staff had created a customized menu just for us based on our wedding theme, location, and time of year! Jeanna even created four customized signature drinks for us to choose from! The catering crew was timely, thorough, and efficient! Jeanna checked in with me throughout the wedding planning process and was available to answer all my questions. Jeanna took care of coordinating with the event planner at our venue and took care of all the little details. We even had Barleycorns bring in food for the rehearsal dinner and lunch for the day of the wedding! Every meal supplied by Barleycorns was top notch and of high quality! We received numerous compliments on the dinner at our wedding. Many family friends said it was by far the best meal they had ever eaten at a wedding. If you are looking to go beyond the "typical" wedding catering services, then you owe it to yourself and your wedding guests to check out Barleycorns. You will not be disappointed. This was definitely one of the decisions I was most pleased with throughout planning our wedding! We frequent Barleycorn's often and also used them for catering at our October 2012 wedding! We could not be happier with our decision. Jeanna and her entire team go above and beyond throughout the whole process. We were considering several different menu options and had changed several things along the way! She was so willing to make it all about what we wanted (it looked good and tasted amazing too.) We've received many compliments from our family, friends, and wedding guests about the food! Our tasting was top notch and the presentation of the food was outstanding. We had our own table and were served way more than we had requested for our initial tasting. They had several good suggestions for our menu and helped us create exactly what we had hoped for! They also served part of our rehearsal dinner and lunch the day of the wedding! Your guests will not be disappointed with their dinner and you will be happy with the results. Horrible ambience, the food is all greasy and fried. There are no good specials, smells like fish. Very dark inside. The servers are nice but the managers are not. I hate to write a bad review. Being that this is the first place I am going to write it on. Barleycorns is a neighborhood chain of sorts in NKY. The location in Highland Heights has always been a work in progress. This place is finally looking a little respectable. But.... I probably just had one of the worst lunches of my life. I pushed my co-workers to stop going to that soul crushing Applebee's and go to Barleycorns for a change. What a mistake. I ordered the juicy lousy burger. A take on the famous one. You think they would be able to cook a burger stuffed with jalapenos and cheese. Boy was I wrong. It was dry as a sock. Way overcooked and the cheese... where the hell was it? Pretty much the most disappointing meal I have had in 2012. Now, I would still go back here just not for a meal. The only thing good here is the fried eggplant. Which this is not even their own recipe. It came from F&N steakhouse after they closed. Fried eggplant and beer. That's it. I was also annoyed by the screaming child behind e while I was trying eat. I just don't understand this people. Why do you bring your kids to a restaurant? Not only are you stressed out and yelling the whole time, but ruining the experience for the people around you. Food and drink are OK if you're looking for cheap bar grub. But service was slow and spotty, and, the waitress overcharged my credit card after the fact. I called the manager twice to resolve the charges, and he was friendly and sounded willing to help, but never did. Bad service + overcharging and not fixing it = total fail. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to stop at the lakeside park location around 4:00. We ordered the docs " jumbo" wings. The only thing jumbo was the price. It took 40 minutes to get the wings. She got the chicken Caesar wrap. She could not find the chicken amongst all the lettuce. I got the steak and cheese queso sandwich. Disgusting. It was dry and over cooked. I ate half. When the server decided to come over to the table I expressed my disappointment. She asked me what I ordered. Amazing, she works there and had no idea what this thing was on my plate. The kitchen had no business letting this out on the floor. Service was slow. To her credit our server was caught with 5 tables as was shift change. Where was the manager? Any good manager knows that shift change on a Sunday afternoon brings problems. The manager should have been out on the floor helping. We will not be back. Barleycorns needs some inventive help. Food has always been delicious & service always good. They need to get with the times and segregate the smoking section - there is nothing dividing it from the non-smoking section. I hate sitting at the booths right next to the smoking section and breathing the smoke in during my entire meal. A good smoke-eater would help as well to get some of the smoke out of there! Sometimes it's not so bad - but when several people are smoking, it's terrible to try and enjoy your meal. read more

Ok, the iced tea was weak/weird tasting because it was short on bags when made. I can live with pale tea, NBD, The burger was as fantastic as I remembered. Now the tie-breaker. Oh but first, the server pleasant and efficient, the place a decent feel ... When my meal came with fries, the fries were served in a small silver cup. I had to look down inside to see them. it was a like a half-portion or infant's portion! My first thought, "can they spare it?" Frankly if I were running the bistro, I would be embarrassed to come out with puny pile like that. It was almost comical. Jury is out on returning. Went there this week end , ordered the nachos which were pretty dry-mostly chips and little chili. I asked for some salsa and was amazed that they charged me extra for it . Are they really this desperate that they would risk losing a regular customer over two ounces of salsa.My bill is usually 59.00 to 60.00 but little things like this can really turn you off. The managers need more training when it comes to customer service. Probably will not return. read more

Went here recently for an after work happy hour. The atmosphere was ok typical bar and grill nothing to write home about but I was pleased they had indoor and outdoor seating. There happy hour deals were in effect so I started off with Barleycorn's Moscow mule made with bourbon instead of vodka of course because I was in Kentucky. I really enjoyed that and potentially liked it better than regular mules the bourbon intensified the spiciness of the ginger. The servers were great and were able to give some great suggestions like getting our wings "dock" style which we mistook for "dawg" style which led to an interesting conversation. Anyhow dock style is when the wings are fried toss in hot sauce and fried a second time so they come out a little crispy and you are able to dip them in the sauce of your choice. My favorites were the Honey Sriracha and the Bourbon Sauce. The wings are definitely worth the trip. read more

Barleycorn's catering is amazing! They catered a recent wedding I attended. Despite the venue being more than an hour from the restaurant, the food was amazing - one of the best meals I have ever had! The catering manager, Jenna, met with the bride on several occasions and put together an amazing menu that was enjoyed by everyone at the wedding. Both the food and the service were amazing - nothing could have been better! Truly a fantastic dinner. read more

Unfortunately I will not be returning to Barleycorns. Nor will I recommend it. I have been happily working in full service restaurants for 20 years. I have drove past both locations repeatedly and finally gotten the opportunity to dine. Unfortunately I know all aspects of full service restaurants. And am pretty lenient.  My visit will always be listed as the worst experience to date. From the front door on nothing went right. Dismissive management, horrible service, and food that left me without words. From the time I entered the only highlight was my exit. My yelp review was ment for motivation to improve.
