Barn8 is just such an EXPERIENCE. I've never been to a restaurant like this and was absolutely blown away. Eating in the stable was so much fun (please see picture) and special. Our server was truly phenomenal - gave great recommendations, was honest, helped steer us, and took great care of our party of 5. The food was five stars across the board. Some dishes were absolutely our favorites, but there was nothing that we didn't like. The short rib and seafood special were top entrees, and the churro sundae was the best dessert (plus the cold brew ice cream omg). The cauliflower was an awesome starter and we devoured it. We recently had brunch at Barn8 for my husband's birthday. I have been wanting to try it and an so glad we did, but now I can't wait to go back for their dinner!! We had the cinnamon roll for an appetizer and it was delicious but very sweet! My meal was also delicious as I wanted to have a little bit of everything and that's exactly what I got. Our waitress also brought out a brownie since it was my husband's birthday, which I thought was a very sweet gesture. Located on a working farm, in an old converted barn, we ate in the stable of Seattle Slews nothing...really cool and the ambience is killer! Wow, wow, wow to the food and drinks! It's a pretty cool atmosphere in a retrofitted barn. There are some more private areas than where I saw but it was pretty cool with the open concept to be able to see the kitchen working. We ordered the cornbread, bread platter, and sweet potato croquettes for appetizers. The breads and dips were all great. The croquettes were missing something. They were almost too smooth and couldn't decide whether they wanted to be sweet or savory. My colleagues reported the ribeye's came out room temperature or almost cold. I'm not sure if that's normal or not for this place but personally, I would have sent it back. Another colleagues burger was undercooked, she did send it back and the waitress said "it happens all the time." Mine was cooked perfectly. The bun was almost stale to me though and the actual burger itself was about two-thirds the size of the bun. The fries were great! Some were a little too seasoned but I'd definitely get them again. The bison stroganoff tasted very good but it was just oily/greasy to me. I was debating between the burger and stroganoff and I'm glad I picked the burger. For dessert, the crème Brule was the winner hands down. I'm not even a huge fan of them normally but this one was great. The biggest letdown of the night was the Appalachian Stack Cake. It sounded so good but the dry cake and heavy sorghum flavor just didn't do it for me. Not to mention the tiny dollop of ice cream about the size of a golf ball didn't go very far with easing the dryness. This was a one of a kind experience in a redeveloped horse barn located on the stunning grounds of Hermitage Farm. Inside was very unique and cool and cozy. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They offer a seasonal menu with ingredients sourced from their farm. It was my family's first time here so we tried a lot! For appetizers, we tried breads & spreads, the roasted squash, and the farmers cheese. All of them were super good! I think the farmers cheese was the unanimous favorite. For entrees, we tried the trout, bison burger, bison stroganoff, and the sirloin. We all agreed the sirloin was the best, followed closely by the trout. Everything was good, though! Service was excellent and pleasant without being obtrusive. Wonderful setting for a special occasion, but easily casual and laidback. We started with cocktails and wine. I chose an appetizer of shrimp toast to share. Main entree selection was lamb chops, which were tender and juicy, perfectly prepared medium rare. I have some thoughts about my dining experience at Barn8: Location: very, very far away. If dining after dark be very intentional about looking for signs. The restaurant is tucked away down a single-lane road and the parking lot is not directly in front. One must park, then traverse a sidewalk, walk down some stairs, and cross some gravel before finding the entrance. Ambience: gorgeous. The grounds, the facility, the décor, the co-ed bathrooms - all exquisite. I also appreciate the unique mixed dishes and silverware. Service: fantastic. From the host to the servers to the busser everyone was polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. All questions were answered and our table felt very cared for. Food: this is where my experience was less than perfect. There are limited vegan options for starters/shared plates and entrees. That said, the menu helpfully designates (v) for vegetarian and (vv) for vegan, however there aren't many (vv) options. Of note, the focaccia and sourdough are both vegan and both are very lovely. Our server helpfully informed me that the mushroom risotto is vegan as long as the parmesan is omitted, and since I love mushrooms AND risotto opted for this. The dish arrived hot and beautifully presented, however it was incredibly salty. Several of my dining companions who ordered the non-vegan version noted the same. Overall Barn8 is a beautiful, welcoming, unique dining establishment that is slightly difficult to find and could do more to cater to plant based diners. The whole aesthetic of place is absolutely beautiful from the horses roaming next to the drive way to the restaurant to the horse stalls inside the restaurant. I had never had a dinning experience like this before. While the ambiance was off the charts, unfortunately the portion size of my entree (for the price + the fact that it came with no sides) and the service were a bit of a let down. Our waiter was not sure of a few ingredients listed on the menu and had to go ask and come back - which it totally fine, but with a limited menu it just seemed odd. I also asked for a dessert menu before we ordered our food so I could narrow down what I wanted for the evening. For my entree I ordered the salmon en papiilote which was delicious and flavorful. It was a beautiful dish. The salmon filet was small which could have been fine if there was additional food served with it (rice or more green beans). Towards the end of my meal I overheard our waiter telling another table that they sold out of the deconstructed apple pie last night. Which was another bummer because that was the dessert I was going to order. I just wish he had prefaced it in the beginning when he handed me the menu. The restrooms were a fun and interesting experience. They have individual stalls for women, men, and unisex all housed in the same place so you share the sink and towel paper area with whomever is in there. They have delightful sounds of chickens playing in the restroom as well as stuffed chickens in a chicken coop which we all found to be pretty funny. After dinner we did the Art Walk and I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity. It was difficult to see where we were walking in some areas so we used the flashlight feature on phones to guide us. But the projections were incredible. I definitely have not experienced anything like that before. I definitely want to try this place again and would love to go on the Art Walk again. read more

There are few restaurants where I enjoy the drive to get there but this would be one of them. Beautiful homes and horses to see and you end up on an actual horse farm! The repurposed stable-turned-restaurant is beautiful with excellent decor. It did feel quite upscale yet the farmhouse feel still was comforting. Unfortunately, this is where my positivity came to an end. The cornbread was not the best I've ever had but it certainly was the most expensive. I think ounce for ounce the Salmon was probably the most expensive Salmon I've ever eaten. It was literally half the size of my palm and the green beans ended up being one bean cut into 7-8 pieces. Had it tasted amazing I may not have been so sore about it but the flavor was pretty light and needed something more, especially for $32. We all tried each other's plates but were left wanting the risotto. The melon salad maybe had 6 pieces of melon that were not even as big as cheese cubes. Very vinegar heavy and did not taste of Canteloupe. Not something worth recommending. We all tried the peach lavender sorbet which was compared to old lady perfume or soap in color and in flavor. The artwalk in the end was interesting but honestly, you don't even need to pay to go and look at it. There were times when it bordered creepy and could even be hazardous from how dark it was as the lights are only on one side of the walk. The restroom which is shared by all genders also gave a creepy vibe with all the stuffed chickens and the inserted clucking noises. I understand that there is on-site and local sourcing for the ingredients but that is not enough to justify the steep cost of the menu. Some of the dishes need more flavor or less of others - balance is key. For a $60 bill, I believe I should be leaving full, not planning where to stop on my way home. read more

We made the trek out to Barn8 for my parents wedding anniversary, and it was well worth it! The farm itself was very picturesque, so save a little time before or after your meal to walk around. It was a nice private dining experience. We were worried that we would be forgotten, being so tucked away, but our waitress was attentive and timely with everything. We started with cocktails, which were outstanding, and ordered bread and salads to start. From the beginning, everything was fresh and delicious. The entrees continued that trend. Again, the kitchen was quick and efficient, and we didn't have to wait long at all. I got the spaghetti with clams and mussels, which was incredible. The spaghetti was made in house and cooked perfectly, and the shellfish was excellent and not at all rubbery. And the sauce was spectacular. My parents got pasta and fish, seen in pictures, and they were pleased with their dinners too. The food is farm to table so the menu was well curated for what's in season. I wanted to treat my wife and the friends we were visiting in Louisville to a special meal and after dealing with Barn8's lousy reservation system, was able to secure a table. The restaurant is located in an old horse barn. Dining tables are in the aisle between the stalls and in the stalls as well. We were fortunate to be seated in one of the stalls which afforded privacy and a unique experience. We ordered a round of drinks and then several dishes, which change based upon what's growing in their extensive garden and what's fresh locally. We enjoyed trout, pork loin, fried cauliflower, and cast iron cornbread. Each was excellent. Before dinner, we had the chance to walk around the vegetable and herb gardens. My first visit to Barn8 was for an event. It began with cocktails on the patio, along with checking out tables in a greenhouse that contained their silent auction items. Servers came by often to pass out appetizers; however, neither stuffed mushrooms or tuna are appealing to my taste and I passed. We were later let into the event space above the restaurant. The decor is modern farmhouse with wooden walls, high ceilings and bourbon barrels. The silent auction items were moved to tables at the back of the room and a cash bar set up. The space held between 100-150 people. The staff was led by a head manager and he guided them with serving tables and filling wine tables. Place settings and flowers were beautiful. My favorite part of the meal happened early with the salad. Baby arugula was topped with watermelon, strawberries and blackberries, plus the dressing was delicious. The rolls were great too. Dinner was noted as spare ribs with a red wine base, and you could tell. The meat was placed on top of mashed potatoes, which had been whipped to a soupy consistency. I was starving! The portion was a bit small for my appetite. Desert was a slice of apple pie. This was lackluster and thin on the apple, a bit hard overall. I'd be interested to return to the restaurant, which would allow me to select my own entree. Valet parking was done for everyone and guests tipped. My husband and I had dinner here with two friends on a Sunday evening to celebrate his birthday. The design is modern farmhouse and it has bright and fresh atmosphere. All of the staff were friendly and polite. They have a seasonal menu and I believe we caught the end of the summer menu. Amongst the four of us, we had the red fish, trout, and two pasta dishes as well as bread and the beet salad. Everything was delicious! We also enjoyed our cocktails. A complimentary caramel cream brûlée was brought out for my husband for his birthday. They have $4 scoops of sorbet (including chocolate!) for those who are dairy sensitive. We went for a walk on the trail behind the restaurant afterward which was very nice. Some tips: you can make reservations online but Saturdays fill up fast. This will be an expensive meal, especially if you drink alcohol and want an appetizer (the bread is not free) so be prepared! read more

For starters the atmosphere was cool with tables in stalls and open areas of a horse barn. Our table we had front row seats for viewing the kitchen cooking. We had ' bread & spreads' and ' fried cauliflower' for appetizers. The breads were a sourdough and focaccia. Both were amazing with 3 spreads a black garlic butter, a red pepper hummus and just plain ole butter but there was nothing plain about it. It was so fresh, creamy and wonderful. The other two were just as good. The fried cauliflower was not typical breaded fried cauliflower. It was maybe more like a pan fry and the bourbon soaked raisins put the perfect sweetness. Next we move on to our entrees, we had the bison burger with fries. It was cooked to perfection. It was flavorful and juicy. And we had the spaghetti. It was not a typical spaghetti but it is probably the best dish I have ever had. It had a spicy sausage, tomato, asparagus, peas , homemade noodles and the sauce was maybe like a brown butter. It was absolutely amazing. To finish things off we had a lemon meringue custard desert. It was so refreshing. We also had a scoop chocolate sorbet. It was very refreshing.
