    Tomato bisque

I really love that it's in a neighborhood and lined with beautiful trees, parking can be an issue though. You're always greeted warmly when you arrive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's soft piano music playing and a really nice and friendly atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They give you adequate time to peruse the menu and offer recommendations. I tried the tomato bisque soup with blue cheese, and the bacon wrapped shrimp. Both were delicious. I ordered the pork chop and my husband ordered the crab and shrimp linguine. Our food was excellent! I love that the staff allows you time to eat and doesn't rush you. It was an excellent night out.

Delicious crab cakes and wedge salad, both are enough to share and they will split the salad for you. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere and service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My book club went to Buck's for our holiday celebration. We made reservations (over the phone), but they weren't needed when we were there on a Monday evening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a classy vibe, with white tablecloths and a pianist playing when you walk in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was attentive, and the manager checked on us during our meal. I had the Chicken Marsala, and it was flavorful. (I got the sauce on the side.) Everyone in the group enjoyed their meals, and some ordered dessert to go. (It looked delicious!) We will be back.

A group of us enjoyed an excellent dinner at Buck's this week. The atmosphere here is very nice...decorated beautifully and someone playing the piano. Service was attentive, but we were never rushed. When in Louisville, I always start with an Old Fashioned! The drink was good and so was the food. The tomato bisque with bleu cheese was interesting and good, especially if you like bleu cheese like me. My entree was the Beef Short Rib Wellington. The beef was so tender and outstanding served over mashed potatoes with asparagus. Creme Brûlée topped off a great meal! If you're in Louisville looking for a nice dinner out, give Buck's a try!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Had dinner w some friends and it was so nice to be at a place that was elegant yet comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the bruschetta which was excellent. The balsamic mix added just the right amount of tartness to the tomatoes. I split a wonderful beet & pear salad & then for my main course ordered the scallops. We were there for over 3 hours and it was so nice to not be rushed or have the waiter hovering trying to turn the table. I decided to get my Mocha Dacquoise to enjoy at home. I am not sure why I don't go more often!

We were treated to an amazing evening of impeccable steak, choice wine and the best chocolate gateau imaginable! We will certainly be back!

We chose to do lunch instead of dinner manly because of the cost. I hope the best isn't held back for dinner. I had reservations for quick seating and felt like things got off to a positive start with oysters Rockefeller very well done. Wasn't sure what I thought the menu would contain but two Asian style dishes surprised me both the stir fry and spicy noodles. We're very tasty. We added salad's a wedge with blue cheese and a briar patch salad full of different berries. The berries won the contest by far. May I say the desert menu gave you delicious options my wife chose mocha dacquois verse my bread pudding. The winner is mocha hands down. I was disappointed by our service it started fine but after we received the entrees he disappeared kinda of sad for a hundred dollar lunch.

What a fun afternoon lunch with a special friend, enhanced by great food, wonderful atmosphere and exceptional service. We were seated with smiles and witty banter at a lovely table set with elegant mismatched china and linen tablecloths. The decor is beautiful with fresh white flower varieties on all tables, filling the bar, the piano and other surfaces. Our server JE was so accomodating, friendly and helpful. It was a catch up lunch for my friend and me so we were on no hurry and were never rushed to leave the table or the resturant even though we stayed well after the 2.00 pm closing time. I ordered the petite filet served on a panko crusted mashed potato patty and 2 asparagus spears. The steak was melt in your mouth tender and the bourbon glaze was light but flavorful. The potato patty was so good, crusty on the outside and smooth, creamy mashed potatoes on the inside. The asparagus spears were tasyy but could have been hotter. My friend ordered the tomato blue cheese bisque that she enjoyed. Our server bought fresh rolls with the soup that were homemade quality with butter. She also had an order of the rice ball appetizer that were filled with peas and feta cheese, breaded and deep fried, although we could not see any peas in the balls. I did not care for these. For dessert we shared the mocha dacquois, a layered mocha butter cream, rum cream and baked almond meringue sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with a chocolate sauce. It was a fantastic choice, light, not too sweet but excellent flavor. Excellent lunch experience.

    Rasta Pasta

Buck's has a reputation in Louisville for being a tried-and-true fine dining establishment. Because of this, we chose to go here for my birthday! I was excited and confident that I would have a pleasant meal in a nice place. It was easily one of the most disappointing birthday meals I've had. I ordered the rasta pasta for $25 (a lunch portion). The only discernible flavor in the dish was bell pepper. It didn't really feel like a dish that deserved to have the word "cajun" in the descriptor. I should have picked that up by the name (come on... rasta pasta in an establishment that serves American food?). It was criminally underseasoned. The salmon was La Croix levels of startling; it had the semblance of being fish, but otherwise had no flavor on it whatsoever. A mystery meat that looks just like salmon, but that was cooked in the same room as the idea of salmon. It's honestly impressive how flavorless this filet was. Based on how bland of a take this was on "cajun cream sauce" I genuinely had no confidence in the kitchen to correct this meal to be satisfying. My leftovers will be smothered in parmesan cheese and old bay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment was a little uncomfortable for us. The music seemed to come from an old small radio playing in another room. I'm certain the ambiance for dinner service is more pleasant, but with the afternoon light coming in, the dark walls and decorations made me feel like I was in a stuffy dungeon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Watching the servers have to shuffle in between tight tables was unpleasant (I kept fearing that food would be dropped on patrons).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We witnessed several mistakes occur at other tables in the room (the area was so small you could easily tune into any conversation you want).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were also charged incorrectly for our food. The prices on our receipt did not reflect the menu prices. We brought it to our server's attention (she was otherwise lovely and attentive and I do not blame her for these issues!) and she was apologetic and explained that "something must have happened in the system" and brought us a revised check. We paid it and left, irritated and wanting to get out to find that we were still overcharged for the soup de jour. Is it worth calling and raising hell over $2? No- but both of these issues together made for a really disappointing experience that was worth sharing to me. We will unfortunately not be returning. It seems the high prices at Buck's are to pay for the name alone, because nothing from this lunch outing made us feel good about paying for a $60 meal. I really want to support and enjoy local establishments and cultural staples but this experience reinforced the idea that I can always do better at home for a fraction of the cost.

Went at lunchtime so prices are reasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a beautiful day and we chose to sit outside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . Food was excellent. The service was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was setting up for evening and was absolutely gorgeous. White flowers everywhere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Celebrating a friend's special birthday at this fine establishment. Love this space and place. Just beautiful with old school service and style. Heck my flower stem is still blooming and it's been 2 weeks. Food was delicious, quantities were generous and the service was amazing. We will definitely return!

    Mocha Dacquoise $14

Bucks has been on our local bucket list for years. Iconic Old Louisville dining, live piano and classic cuisine were the draw. Service and hospitality were top notch. Cocktails were lovely but didn't deliver on flavor (highlighted flavor of specialty drinks was too subtle, almost undetectable). Salad (Roasted beet & mini pear salad) was shockingly not as described: canned beets and canned pears are not worth the price and were mushy. Gorgonzola was plentiful but can't save the cheapness of this execution. Appetizer was bacon wrapped shrimp. Shrimp was overcooked and chewy, garnishes missing from dish (per menu description) no chutney on plate, maybe two small pieces of pineapple. The shrimp seemed like it had been cooked way ahead and held on a steam table; not succulent. Entrees: I had scallops on risotto, the scallops were cooked fine and had good flavor. The risotto was very dry, not creamy and not flavorful. Again, it felt like it was cooked far too ahead and dried out on a steam table. Risotto truly had no flavor. My two guests dined on lamb and both reported it had a great flavor, was tender enough but both were cooked over (appeared to be medium well) and had been ordered medium rare. Three shrimp were served on the lamb plate and those were also overcooked and tough (and were not needed on the dish; very disconnected). Across all dishes, "sliced asparagus" per the menu, was whole asparagus spears, barely steamed. Desserts: we had Bucks iconic Mocha Dacquoise. It was very creamy and had a pleasant mocha flavor. The ratio to mocha filling and whipped cream was about 50/50 which is a preference thing; we'd prefer more mocha filling as that's the star of the plate. The whipped cream tasted store bought therefore very processed (hydrogenated oil) and not a rich (real) whipped cream. Perhaps I'm wrong, just sharing our experience of what it seemed to be (we've made a lot of fresh whipped cream and have worked in establishments that opted for the premade stuff, for longer shelf life and ease). Wine list and bourbon list are very nice, good selection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The greeting, service and ambiance are fabulous. Live piano is a beautiful touch; very talented musician and a nice touch to hear "happy birthday" from the piano for another guest[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The live piano was over long before dinner service though and a bit of a long silence before other music was turned on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food was overall disappointing and not worth the prices on the menu. In food service it's always better to underpromise and overdeliver. This was the opposite and the reason we will be reluctant to return. I'll never forget the $13 roasted beet and mini pear salad that clearly had flavorless canned beets (a true roasted beet is bursting with earthy flavor) and a very mushy canned pear. It's sad that this is the predominant memory of the evening. On a positive note, this was a belated Fathers Day meal for my 84 year old father in law. He enjoyed his lamb and Apple cobbler.

Skip the tour if you're burnt…read moreout and just belly up to the gorgeous top floor bar for world class drinks and free corn nuts. My group of four decided to wrap up our epic Bourbon Trail weekend at Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery right before heading to the airport. Having already hit six other distilleries over the weekend, we were completely "toured out" and opted to bypass the standard distillery tour. Instead, we headed straight upstairs to the bar and it was the best decision. We happened to visit right at the start of Derby week, so the entire building was alive and buzzing. Because of the festivities, they were highlighting their own rendition of the Derby fan favorite Mint Julep. I had to get one, and it did not disappoint. It was well crafted, perfectly balanced, and served in the classic, frost chilled sterling silver cup. Easily one of the best Juleps I've ever had. The bar area itself is beautifully appointed, sitting on one of the top floors of the historic building with a great atmosphere. A massive bonus: they offer patrons free bar snacks. The seasoned corn nuts were an absolute hit at our table, to the point where we had to ask for seconds (and they happily obliged!). Service was fantastic from start to finish. Despite the Derby week crowds, our water glasses were never empty and the cocktails came out incredibly fast. Whether you are doing a full day of tours or just want a world class drink in a stunning setting, Michter's is a phenomenal addition to any Louisville itinerary.

During an early 2025 trip to Washington, D.C., we went to multiple establishments and, coincidentally or not, encountered this specific bourbon and just loved it. The most notable occurrence was at Jack Rose Dining Saloon, where I had literally the best Old-Fashioned I've ever had, using a special Angel's Envy that hung out in some sherry barrels for a while. Since then, we've both regularly ordered it when given the opportunity, and ultimately decided that the best way to appreciate this fine spirit was to go right to the source. So to the mothership we went. My chum did most of the heavy lifting here and scheduled a bourbon tour with Louisville Food Tours (very strong recommend) that featured Angel's Envy at the first stop. It's hard to really put into words what this building looks like as you walk in and explore, but it's just so...nice. It's classy without being inaccessible, and it just felt like a true cathedral of bourbon. As tasteful as the bourbon it makes. During our initial tour, we were probably in the distillery for a solid half hour plus, getting a quick tour of the still and fermenters before being led into a side room on the second floor to formally taste some bourbon. Paula was our guide, both during this tour and later on, and was just enormously impressive, which I touched upon in my review of the official tour as well. She's no-nonsense and loves her bourbon - who can't relate? We learned how to inspect the bourbon in the glass, to take a test sip to numb the pain receptors and to truly appreciate the subtle notes in the bourbon with the second sip. It was legitimately helpful, useful information that we're both going to utilize going forward. After our three-hour tour ended (go hard or go home), it wasn't even much of a discussion - we came back here for a few hours to soak in more of the atmosphere and drink some more bourbon. At this point, it was probably close to 5ish but the place was still pretty busy; somehow we were able to secure spots at the bar upstairs and made ourselves at home. I wish I could remember the name of our bartender (blame the time that has elapsed, not the bourbon), but he was very good, social without being oppressive and was just present and let us do our thing. After sipping straight bourbon for most of the afternoon, I switched to the Bourbon Renewal, which you'll be shocked to know includes Angel's Envy but is a more summer, fruit-forward cocktail and super refreshing. Was the right call and hit the spot. (We also got waters because that's the responsible thing to do.) We finally went back downstairs to the gift shop, which doesn't feel like the right term - it was more majestic than something you'd walk into after going through, say, a museum for an hour or two. It's enormous and offers numerous bourbons and also some very high quality swag. We reunited with our chum Paula and sampled their limited edition two-grain, which was created due to a fortunate mistake in which the rye wasn't added so it's just the corn and malted barley. You CAN see the difference and taste it; to me at least, it's more caramel-y than their normal single barrel. We each bought a bottle to bring back to the homeland. My chum basically bought half the store, but I remained calm/deliberate and my only other purchase was a MAGNIFICENT black hoodie. I'm not kidding - I love hoodies and have probably owned dozens over the years, and this is literally the best quality one I've had. It has this interesting front pouch pocket design with like a pocket within the pocket for high-priority items like your ID or credit cards, and the hood itself is interesting. It's just really good and I wore it all day the next day as we slowly made our way back to the East Coast. It's been washed and carefully placed in my closet, where it will reign supreme when the weather inevitably turns nippy again. It's not an exaggeration to say we probably spent hundreds of dollars (at least not thousands) directly and indirectly involving Angel's Envy on this trip. Worth it.

One thing to know about me is: If I see a patty melt on the menu, I will order that. So I got the Merle's Melt, which is a burger patty with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese, plus bacon and special sauce on buttered toast. It was sublimely tasty! It comes with house-made chips, which were good. They also offer tacos on the menu. One of my children got one steak taco and one chicken taco. The tacos are topped with tomato, lettuce and cojita cheese. I was told that these were very good! My kid eats like a bird, but ate one and a half tacos, so that must say something, right? The Lip Smack'n Mac & Cheese was also ordered, as well as the fried chicken, because the menu says that the fried chicken is award-winning, so how could we not? The fried chicken was super crispy and tasty, and the mac and cheese was creamy and made with large shells, which is the best kind of pasta to use for mac and cheese (in my opinion). The service was great, the lighting was great, and we were seated quickly, even though they seemed busy. It was a good place to have a family dinner in Louisville.

We came for my partners bday dinner & we definitely want to go back & have already been recommending it to others!! For apps, I ordered lobster bisque & he ordered French onion soup & we both agreed the quality is the best we've had in Louisville, he even went as far to claim it's the best he's had in Louisville. So delicious!! We both weren't fans of the candle bread, sure it's intriguing & unique but it was too oily, bland, & salty to really enjoy. For entrees I had the NY strip which was made med rare exactly how I enjoy it along with their homemade steak sauce but be wary the charge $2 for it!!! My side was the shepherds pie & I was extremely full & couldn't finish anything the soups were filling!! My partner ordered ribeye and omg it was amazing, sooooo juicy & yummy full of flavors I wish I had gotten it, thankfully he shared. He ordered side of parm broccoli & they're very generous with the cheese that he even had to scrap some off. We had to order the complimentary multi layered dessert to go because we were toooooo full!! Everything was worth the money well spent & I paired mine with extra dirty martini & both my partner & I claim it's one of the best we've had! This place is def worth the hype & we should've gone here sooner!!! I want to check out their downtown location as well, but it's also nice to shop around the Westport area. Love love love!!

The smallest size is 24 ounces unless you want medallions with other cuts Pro tip: Love this location cause it is in the burbs versus driving downtown. Make a reservation here!

The best food I had in Louisville and maybe anywhere in 2026 - we ate here 4 times in our short 2…read moreday trip. Breakfast: simple yet served quickly and a large portion. The American breakfast had large potato pieces, good sausage, and made to order eggs. Hot coffee was on the better side for hotel coffee. Dinner: they were super accommodating, as we were traveling with a friend with an infant. I called ahead to let them know we would come in with a stroller, and they made sure to sit us in an area where the stroller was not in the way of servers or other guests. Our server was one of the most attentive people I have ever met, and every recommendation they gave was fantastic. We started with the oyster rockefellar and the spicy tuna tartare. The oysters were massive and the tuna dish was so good, we got it a second time later in the weekend. We all got steaks for our mains and added a lobster tail - there was a mix up with the lobster tail taking a bit and they ended up bringing out the largest lobster tail to make up for it. All steaks, their sides, and sauces were fantastic- better than most I have had in the DC area. The food was all rich so under order or share amongst friends. Cocktails were of course fantastic, from espresso martinis to the famous smoked old fashions. We had drinks at the bar another night and the service was just as good, though they did tell us that they didn't serve the drink in a smoke box when we certainly had one just a night before.

They offer valet parking for $14, but street parking was easy to find and just a short walk away. We started with the Caesar salad and the wedge salad. Both were good, although the wedge had a bit too much dressing for my taste. I ordered the filet with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms. The filet was excellent, and while I'm not usually a mushroom person, these were truly outstanding. The bread was also some of the best I've ever had. I also ordered one of the mocktails, which I enjoyed because it wasn't overly sweet. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the service. Our waiter was efficient, but he wasn't particularly friendly, and the entire meal felt rushed. Several times, someone tried to clear my plate while I was still eating. We also had to ask for more time more than once before ordering because we felt pressured to make decisions quickly. With a bill of over $300, I expected a more relaxed dining experience where we could enjoy the evening at our own pace.
