This place is great! I live close by and go nearly once a week during the summer. The burgers are amazing but I also like chicken or tilefish franchaise as well. Peanuts on the floor are fun and easy and the staff is great! Even with a long wait I always get amazing service. The drinks are fairly priced and not weak as well. Live music several nights a week turns the restaurant and bar into a lively music venue with great performers and excellent cover and original song choices. I recommend this waterfront restaurant to anyone read more

great location. i came to check out the burger. i heard it was great. it is big . it is juicy, but if ordered withouttoppings, the beef has no flavor. also, i don't know why some restaurants insist on hard rolls for their burgers. please consider soft hamburger buns. the sweet potato fries were the best ever and i would return just for the sweet potato fries , but i will probably order the phili cheese steak instead of the burger. read more

One of my favorite places to eat on earth. I was originally drawn to the place by being able to throw peanut shells on the floor. I've never had a bad meal there. I highly recommend the mozzarella sticks, the burgers, and the grilled blackened swordfish. The steak is also excellent. The fries are good old fashioned thick steak fries. The soups are also very good. Friends and family have ordered nearly everything on the menu and they've always enjoyed their meal. The place does get crowded on the weekends at night, and it is a little snug by the bar, but the time passes quickly as you enjoy a Long Island Iced Tea and some peanuts. Prices are completely reasonable. Appetizers 6-8 bucks, entrees (including seafood) 15-20. I remember ordering 2 beers my first night there and being stunned when I was given changed from a 10. LITs are a little pricey, $11, but after one of those, I'm done for a few weeks. For how busy it gets, the service is very good. It can be a little tough to get a drink at the bar sometimes, but they are well staffed and they move insanely fast. Can't say I've ever had a complaint about a waiter. I've even asked for a special not on the menu that night and they were nice enough to make it for me. My favorite part of Barnacle Bills is the atmosphere. There are literally people there from all walks of life, all having fun, all living it up. There is never any trouble or fights or anything like that. On a Friday night, expect to see families with kids, old people, young attractive 20 somethings, 30 something couples, couples in their 60s and 70s, beach surfer types, trust fund beneficiaries, middle aged people that look like they just came from a Jimmy Buffett concert (you get the idea). You also gotta love the acoustic guitar musician/singer playing your favorite folk rock hits (and other music from all generations) playing in the background. Its loud enough to hear well, but not overly loud where you have to scream over it. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

There was a long wait when we arrived(approximately an hour),but the crowd outside was friendly and the area was scenic. Oncewe were seated, the service was great and had some tasty appetizers that were great for sharing . We had a variety of entrees for our party of six. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Very fun atmosphere for a summer weekend evening! Last night we came here for dinner and the hostess was so amazingly helpful. It was crowded and we had friends meeting us here who were stuck in traffic. Despite that, we were all seated together (8 of us!) as soon as they arrived, and she did it all with a smile. This was my second time here. Called ahead to see if there was a wait. Hostess told me "not at this time" and we were seated right away. Food, beer, crowd, view were all great. Staff friendly. Sat near bar where fruit flies were really out of control. Got annoyed of waving them away so sat back to watch and there was actually a swarm of them. After that couldn't wait to leave! This is one of the few places in the area that serves steamed clams. The clams are pricey but always properly cooked and served. Since I am not rich enough to order enough clams for a meal I usually get a burger which has always been tasty. This place was pretty awful. After getting back from a boat tour for my gf's bday, we searched yelp to find what the closest restaurant around with the best reviews and this was sadly it. First off, the tables are bunched together so you are pretty much sitting on top of the people next to you. We had the misfortune of sitting next to the main walkway leading to the bathroom, so people were bumping into our table the entire time. Aside from being too noisy to hear the person across from you, there was also some repetitive music playing over and over again. It was some indistinguishable baseline that really got on our nerves after hearing it nonstop for about an hour. (not sure if it was one of their arcade games making this noise but it was annoying regardless.) The food... What to say about the food. I had the seafood salad and it was barely edible. I ended up leaving more than half of it on the plate and the other half my body ended up leaving on the side of the road on the way home. I knew there was an issue with the food I ate about five minutes into the car ride home when I started feeling nauseous. My gf did not get sick, but neither was she impressed with the opened face steak sandwich which she said lacked any hint of flavor. After consuming this less than stellar "food", we paid about $50.00 and left. I am not a food snob and not hard to please when it comes dining, but when a meal makes my physically I have to draw a line. This is a great place for a pub lunch or dinner during the off season. We went in April. We waited less than 5 minutes for a table. During the season, everyone was saying it is a 2 hour wait. Mostly locals were relaxing, and enjoying themselves. Burger was huge (10 oz) and cooked to perfection. The sweet potato fries are fresh cut large size. I have actually never seen that done before. Very well done! The steamers were good, but the sauce is poured on the center of the steamers, and some of them never get the sauce. But the portion is huge, and it is up to you to mix them in. That worked fine. The draft beers were unusually cold and refreshing. Our server worked her buns off, constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything else. Other establishments could learn a lot from the staff at Barnacle Bills. The decor is nothing special, but it is very clean, and rustic. They could use another full dining area, and would probably fill that also. You can tell the owners take a lot of pride in their restaurant, and cater to both locals and tourists alike. They have live music quite often. Where they put everyone, I have no idea. To My Followers: All in all, I would give this a 4.5 out of 5. My only hesitation is not to go during the season. my bf took me here for a drink on one of our early dates, i walked in and was like really? there are peanuts on the floor! but dont be fooled, they have amazing burgers! i always get mine with sauteed onions and mushrooms! but they are known for their cheddar cheese sauce burgers just make sure to get it on the side, it is quite messy! i also love the fried zucchini appetizer with a horseradish sour cream sauce. to wash all this delicious goodness down, i have to recommend the LIT! the locals go there and drink LIT like its water! but caution, super strong! if you happen to go there for lunch and not in the mood for a burger, the crab cake sandwich is really tasty! my bf gets that a lot! its very casual and its right on the river, great views. this place is usually always crowded but definitely worth the wait! read more

The place is nice but the food had very little taste. I had a flounder that was fried and was really dry and with no particular taste. My son had a medley of fried seafood but same issue. The clam chowder tasted like bacon. The only dish that was ok was my wife's shrimp scampi, which had a buttery garlic glaze. We went there for lunch. read more

This place is filthy...it's not the peanuts on the floor... it's just a dirty place. Sitting there we saw how dusty the hanging glass holder was, filth on the brass railing, greasy menus, dirty walls and a very filthy floor..but that's not the worst part. The basic awareness of health and sanitation is a bigger concern. We watched the table staff use the same rag to wipe the bar and then placed it under his armpit, while cleaning up dirty dishes only to pull it out and wipe down a table. The bartenders handle cash and then stick their hands into a cup and grab a lemon or lime...there's not enough space to talk about the cross sanitation concerns of the grilll cook... but he watch him the next time you are waiting for your burger. Is this place missing a manager? The owner should do a surprise inspection. read more

One word...burgers. Year after year, they are voted the best burgers on the Jersey shore. And for good reason. These burgers are really big, juicy, flavorful and cooked perfectly everytime. They are served with your choice of cheese. The cheddar sauce seems to be the most popular. You can get raw or sauteed onions, bacon, mushroom...or whatever you'd like. The buns are great too. All of their burgers come with potato chips and a big slice of pickle. The restaurant itself sits right along the Navesink River in Rumson, and there is a marina just outside. The inside is all dark wood with a nautical theme. Not fancy at all. If you go for dinner, be prepared to wait. The first thing you notice when you walk in are the peanut shells strewn EVERYWHERE. There is a big barrel of peanuts between the restaurant and bar, and people are encouraged to help themselves and throw the shells on the floor. If you can, find a spot at or around the bar while you wait for your table. Grab some peanuts, order a Long Island Iced Tea and chill. There is a large floor to ceiling window that overlooks the water. I prefer watching the chef who cooks the burgers right behind the bar. Be sure to try their steamers as well. Though obviously not as famous as the burgers, they are renowned for being big, clean and sweet. They have a very extensive menu which includes seafood, steaks and daily specials. Can't say much about the other food, because when I go to Bills...I'm all about the burgers and steamers. They're that good. read more
