My experience there has been great! Never been crowded for me. They have a Starbucks for you caffeine addicts and a music store all in one bookstore. Never had trouble finding my books There could be more seats, but I personally don't mind sitting on the floor. They have a big selection of magazines. i am a b&n junkie. i enjoy my sunday mornings drinking coffee, listening to music, and reading magazines. it's bliss. they do have a decent number of tables and chairs in the starbucks area, and lots of corners in the store which i've plopped myself down and set up camp. the people are nice, and they don't bug you while you're browsing--that is, unless you want to be bugged, and then they're happy to help. read more

The Barnes and Noble coffee shop serves Starbucks coffee, but it is not a Starbucks. My wife loves their Reese's Peanut Butter cookie. I like the Oatmeat Raisin cookie. There desserts are a lot better than the ones at Starbucks in my opinion. A nice afternoon treat after browsing the bookstore. Very good service. I saw the manager straightening out the magazines while answering the company phones via Bluetooth. She said its always a mess there as I am sure it is. B&N did what Borders could not do, survive in Long Beach. These stores are an asset to the community as there are not too any places where you can go and take it easy, read some books and magazines, browse through music and maybe get a cup of coffee and have a clean bathroom to use. This was one of the smaller Barns & Nobles. It bears the same look and style, but is only one story. The selection is plenty but they need to work on having more available staff to help with check out. It was nice that they sent people to music to check out, because there was no waiting, but that meant you had to walk back to the middle of the store and then back again to exit. I love books and I love this store chain. That said, this one is a pass. It really isn't their fault I think though. They are in a big store plaza with the biggest theater in Long Beach so parking can be a pain. There selection seems rather limited compared to other B&N's and most of the patrons that go there seem to be obnoxious kids waiting for their movie to start. How can you say anything bad about a place that sells books?! Not a lot of cities have book stores that you can still go to actually buy books. I love going to the Barnes and Noble because if you can't find the book you want there they help you order it for pick up or delivery. I love bookstores, however I don't like how Barnes and Noble bought out Borders a few years ago-what happened to the competition? Anyways, this is a nice, clean Barnes & Noble with a large selection of many different genres of books. There is a coffee shop inside where one can grab some Joe and read if they desire . There is also a CD and DVD section which I don't like because the selection sucks and it'd be better off as a space for more books (yay!). I love going in here to just kill time. Almost every time, I walk out with a new book or two. There are tables in the middle with bestsellers or hardcover copies of books (at a discount) that they're trying to get rid of cause they just got all paperbacks. read more

This is one of the better B&N around & it just so happens to be the closest to home, so that's perfect. The reason why it's so nice is that the cafe is actually inside the bookstore so we can actually read a book while having a cup o' joe. This gives you the option to either buy or pass on the book. The other locations nearby (Marina Pacifica & Bella Terra) do have a Starbuck's next door BUT you have to buy the book first in order to take it into the coffee shop to read it. The one @ the LB Towne Center is therefore, more relaxed, welcoming & encourages one to stay longer. read more

The lines have definitely moved a lot faster the last couple of times I've been here. I was here today and the employees were very friendly. This store is very clean and organized. I received some items as a gift and they helped me as best as they could to try to return it (I had no receipt). They were able to give me store credit which was totally fine, I wanted to buy books anyway. Nice employees helping me at the counter, a younger black man, and a good selection of baby books. We had fun looking through all of them however I wish they had a seating area in the kids section to sit down and read. That is the reason for one star off. read more

I like this location. It's got a nice Starbucks/cafe inside and is a good place to study if the other Starbucks is too crowded... which it almost always is. Whenever I'm here and looking for books for school that I need, they are always sold out. It's so dumb because I never wait to get my books. I go right after the class gets out and unless everyone who has that teacher got there before me, then I don't understand. It makes me really sad because I'll need it before it would get to my house (if I ordered it). I end up having to go somewhere else and dishing out a lot more money. I love Barnes and Noble in general, but this location I've had problems with. Online you can use a 'pick up in store' option, and which ever store has the item you are looking for, they will hold it, and wait for you to pick it up for 3 whole days. TWICE I've used this 'pick up in store' option, and when I receive my email saying that its on hold. I drive over there, and the counter employees can't find it, and say "I'm sorry, it must've been put back on the shelf." The first time it happened, I said to myself accidents happen, but the second time!?! I think its just bad management or poor training in employees. I'm giving 2 stars because the employees here are nice, and put on a smile. read more

I enjoy this B&N alot! You can have a coffee and enjoy the isles of book! Its clean and fresh and they have a vast selection. Ive called in advance and had them hold my book i wanted to purchase. I was very disappointed in Barnes & Noble's today. As I had a very large stack of books I was interested in buying there was no where for me to sit down to look at these books. My daughters and I sat in a corner on the floor looking at the books when we were told by an employee that we could not sit there! We were not in anyone's way at all. As I got up to move I noticed several people sitting in different areas of the store on the floor. As an older lady I would appreciate more sitting area! It was very hard for me to get down on the floor and then I was told I had to get up again. If they want people to buy books they should have an area for sitting down and looking at the books. read more

What ever happened to good customer service? The cashier would not return a DVD unopened with receipt. I went to see the manager who told me there was a 14 day return policy. Stopped in to browse the books and grab a light lunch. The food offerings are good, but a little pricey for what you get. (Yeah, yeah, it's technically "Starbucks". But maybe if Starbucks knocked a couple $$ off each item in their Barnes & Noble locations, more "working people" and students would show up for food and beverages--and that alone might keep the bookstores in business!) Some people (including myself) still do buy a book now and then, especially as gifts; but we hear that bookstores like this are an endangered species. That would be a shame. Sure, we can order books online--including through barnesandnoble.com--but there's nothing like walking around a physical bookstore to see what's available "out there" and discover new things. When shopping online we pretty much have to ALREADY KNOW what we want, and then look for it. Also, if the next generation of kids grow up without running across a bookstore while shopping, they might never bother to explore books that aren't required for school. Again...great environment; but I would suggest lower price points on refreshments to draw more traffic (even if B & N has to create its own fast-casual food auxiliary and end the partnership with Starbucks)--then maybe sales of those items could pay most of the rent, and keep this valuable place in business! read more

Very very helpful staff. I went to the customer service desk and while there were 3 people in front of me, I only waited a few minutes to be helped. The computer showed that the book I was trying to locate was not stocked in the store but the young gentleman took me to the section and still helped me look for the book. I would have given this place 5 stars but the store did not have the book I needed. Purchased a gift on line for my boyfriends birthday so it would arrive before his birthday, I kept checking the order status and it kept saying "order still processing " the delivery date was yesterday so I contact customer service and they tell me they have no tracking number for my order so they're unable to find my order. Offered to replace my gift but said it would take another 8-10 days!!!! That would arrive AFTER his birthday! Great!!! That's just what I wanted, have no gift to give my boyfriend on his birthday!!! Thanks B & N. I asked if there was any possibility they can have the replacement shipped sooner and they told me no! Horrible horrible!!! Located in the Long Beach Town Center in Long Beach, I have been here several times since moving to Long Beach. It is your typical Barnes and Nobles. The place is well organized, clean, and fairly easy to find books. They have a large sitting area in front of the Starbucks area. The sitting area has many tables and chairs, but it gets busy quick! So it can be a challenge to find a place to sit much of the time, unless you stand there like a hawk ready to swoop in for your prey (in this case, a table). The baristas are very nice, and the drinks are always good! I often browse the store, grab a few books, and head to the starbucks section, order a drink, and browse the books to see if I want to purchase the books. I really enjoy coming here. They have a large magazine section that I frequent. The bathrooms are typical Barnes and Noble bathrooms. Not clean, not dirty. But they are tolerable. There is free wifi throughout the bookstore as well. The cashiers at the counter are usually nice too. I will keep returning here on my spare time to hangout. read more

This is one of few left. It's in a quiet part of a big shopping center so you would think that it would not be that busy with people. In reality though there's still a lot of people that come to this location. Think it's still kind of cool that you can come and physically pick a book off the shelf and read it. Yes technology may be much more convenient of having a hundred books at your disposal on Nook but it will never compare to the slight pleasure off flipping through the pages of a real book or magazine. As well as having a place where you can come meet others who share the same interest. Unlike Starbucks where people are doing miscellaneous things or just drinking coffee. Here you get to do both, get a drink and pick out a book or magazine that interest you. You can get lost in your reading or actually meet somebody you can hold an intellectual conversation with, the rest is up to you. read more

This B&N is my favorite because its huge! I always find the newest releases from my favorite authors here. The books I'm looking for are usually in stock. I tend to protest large incorporated bookstore retailers like B&N, however I had went against my better judgement & purchased a book at the Aliso Viejo. That was an unsatisfactory experience in itself as the item I went in to purchase & that their website confirmed was in stock, was in fact nowhere to be found. Fail. I bought bought Warrior Woman in place of Adrienne Rich. Alas, I was able to purchase 2 books of Rich's poetry at my university bookstore & they gave me 25% off the second copy... not too bad right. So Warrior Woman needs to be returned. I go to a small used bookstore near my home in Westwood & Santa Monica, and alas, they have a perfectly good copy, albeit an older addition with different cover, but at half the price of B&N, and in the same condition. It may have been read once, but it looks great & I appreciate items that people have loved & taken on imaginary journeys with. I take the book to B&N in Long Beach Town-center with a valid receipt, and they say that they have a STRICT 2 week return policy... 14 days... you gotta be kidding me. Are you not supposed to be the best (and these days ONLY) retail bookstore? I call BS. The manager literally showed no facial movement expressing emotion and agreed only to allow an exchange. Whack.
