I usually don't rate chain stores because most of the time, they're pretty average and you know what to expect. However, the other day, I was at this B&B and when I asked for help, the cashier told me I'd have to walk over to the customer service kiosk... okay, no problem right? Well, it's not a problem if there was someone actually at the kiosk. I spent the next few minutes walking around the store trying to find someone and when i finally did, her response to my request was, "I don't think so, you should just buy what you have in your hand," without even checking for me via the computer... maybe she's just that good and knows their complete inventory but yeah... didn't feel like customer service was on the top of her mind that day. read more

I usually visit the Barnes & Noble in the Marina, but this is laid out a little better being a single level, but the offerings don't seem quite as extensive. But as has been noted, it's always clean, and more importantly... carries a decent selection of Moleskines. read more

The employees who work at the Cafe are friendly and craft the drinks well, although they seem overly eager to sell you a food item or a venti-sized drink even if you decline the first time. There are no outlets in the Cafe (although there are a few randomly scattered throughout the rest of the store, but without any tables/chairs). Most of the workers working on the sales floor are fairly helpful and attentive. The store itself is smaller in comparison to the ones in Torrance and the Grove, and the selection of books isn't as large either. read more

By far the worst customer service ever. I'm very disappointed & will not be back at this location again. This review is based off my experience with Yuri in the Starbucks cafe. First and foremost, of course customer service is in fact a tough job, but there is no room for rudeness at the end of the day. Yuri sets an extremely POOR example & reflection for Barnes and Noble as well as Starbucks combined. He doesn't smile, has a bitter attitude, is downright rude & unhelpful. He won't lift a finger or express any signs of wanting to actually be there, that much was obvious. He wasn't friendly & wasn't at all approachable by his demeanor. He made the entire experience very unwelcoming & I ended up just leaving. Can't justify giving business & my money to a company with such a lousy staff. read more

This is a nice large book store. It's located in a big strip mall with a Trader Joe's and a REI. There is lots of parking and there is also a Starbucks inside the store. I hope that Barnes & Noble can stay in business. I enjoy having a physical bookstore to wander around. I will miss book stores when they are gone. read more

Run-of-the-mill Barnes & Noble is one of the bigger one-floor Barnes & Noble that I've been to. Book selection is okay as is the service. Hours are the same every day (9 to 11), which makes it easy to remember when they are open and when they close. There is a coffee shop on-site. read more

It's a great location and a pretty big store with lots of selection of books. You can come on in and browse the selections and even read a little bit to see if you like it without the staff giving you dirty looks. They have a music section and a coffee shop so you enjoy a good drink while you find that perfect book. The parking lot is big so there's no worries either. A great location! read more

The set up of this bookstore was TERRIBLE! The place was dark and not organized well. It took forever to find anything as the sections were in random places throughout the store. I ended up having to ask the girl behind the counter for the book that I was looking for and I felt as though I had to wait politely while she finished her conversation with a coworker (a conversation that was obviously not work related). This place needs a major facelift...I'll definitely be looking for a new bookstore in the area to visit in the future. read more

Had to stop by today to pick up some books. Good customer service and helpful employees with knowledge on literature and authors. This review is for their on-line phone service: I am a member. I wanted to buy a comic for my son online at Barnes and Noble. I don't know my membership number, so it says to call their number. I do and they have our old address from 6 years ago on file. I can't remember the zip code exactly, so they won't give me my membership number and I'm put on hold for 9+ mins. Then a new lady says she is trying find the membership number and verify that I am who I say I am. This goes on for another 10 mins. Her voice is muffled and it sounds like there are a bunch of small children in the background as if I'm talking to someone from their home phone. The whole thing was a giant waste of my time, because in the end I never received my membership number. The service did tell me that my membership is valid until December this year. Too bad I can't use it. I will never get another membership with Barnes and Noble or shop there again. read more

At least one manager at this store needs to rethink why they are employed. My wife and I were looking for new releases when she suddenly needed to use the ladies room. She nicely asked an apparent manager, Heather Dorm, at customer service, to point out the direction of the restroom. Heather was helping someone by looking for a book on the computer and told my wife she would have to wait. My wife could not afford to do so and managed to locate the restroom herself. She was later advised by Heather that "it was store policy" and to "have a nice day." Well, as far as I am concerned, Heather and this entire Barns and Nobel store can have a nice day while my wife and I shop online at Amazon. Who needs this style of rude and obnoxious behavior. In the end, Heather spent far more time lecturing my wife that she couldn't help her than just pointing at the restroom. read more

Nice staff here. Lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful in me finding a book. Holy Smokes this place has a lot of toys compared to the one in the Marina Del Rey. I loved the selection and section for all things relating to children. There were several people working and they were helpful when I had a random book or toy request. The bathroom was clean. Parking was a lot and easy to find a spot. read more

This is my local Barnes & Noble. I have always gone in and either looked for a book myself or have asked for assistance. I have had great experiences. This time I called to check if they had the book I was looking for. The person on the phone was polite and helpful. Within a few minutes she found the book I was looking for. I asked if she could put it on hold for me. I arrived to the store about 15 minutes after we hung up and it was ready for me when I arrived. Super easy Super quick! Which was great because I had 10 minutes to get to my next errand. read more

This Barnes and Noble is fairly nice and it has all the things you would expect from any other B&N locations. The people who work here are really kind but it might take some waiting if you want assistance from customer services and there aren't any outlets to plug into. Also, the Starbucks card won't work here but you can use your B&N discount if you're a member. read more

It's been soooo long since I've been to a brick-n-mortar book store after the Amazon Prime/Kindle deal. Much more fun than I remembered prolly due to the nostalgia factor. Looks like it is still a popular outing with kids and variety of print media seems much broader in daylight vs Amazon set preferences. Only problem is pricing. Wanted to get the latest Elon Musk autobiography which sells for $20 on Prime (w/3% Visa discount) and here it's like $32! So I can wait a day or two, sometimes Prime delivers exact same day, amazing. So, I left sans book and ordered online. Thanks B&N for staying alive to keep the memories going. High recommend for kids/teens/students. read more

I went to this Barnes and Noble to get some studying done on my laptop and to get some lunch. I walked through and around the Cafe area twice and didn't see any power outlets. I've studied here before so I know that the outlets were here. So I went to ask the Cafe clerk and asked him in there were any power outlets. He said, "no, sorry." I walked right out the door and am currently at a Starbucks now. What a waste of my time. I am boycotting Barnes and Noble now, well, at least this one. read more

I'm giving this bookstore a 1 only because there are absolutely no power outlets to plug a computer in and the only place for someone to sit and work/study is in the Starbucks. Wow, talk about poor service. I was there on a Saturday at 2:00 in the afternoon. In line to pay for my purchase. Two cashiers. Seven people in line. The line is not moving. Cashier number one seems to be having a casual conversation with their customer. Cashier number two takes about five minutes to take care of her customer. At no point in time does either cashier think to get more help, as in another cashier (there were three other cashier stations that were not being used). We gave up and left after almost TWENTY (yes, 20) minutes in line, with still one person in front of us. This is why I will NEVER step in this store again. This is why AMAZON is taking over. The only reason for a brick and mortar store to exist and thrive is because of excellent customer service. It a store is not capable (or willing) to provide this service, they will disappear. Good-bye Barnes & Noble! The writing is on the wall.... Oh, one last thing. On our way out, cashier number one was STILL chatting with the people he was chatting with when we first got in line. And cashier number two was slowly processing a RETURN. read more

They didn't have the book I was looking for, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed, but one of the workers there recommended another book, The Wretched of the Earth, and I love it! I'm looking for a specific music magazine that is carried by Barnes and Noble on the east coast, so I contacted the B&N in Manhattan Beach to ask if they had it. If the customer service i received on the phone, by CC, is any indication of how it is to shop in the store, I will NOT be shopping there. I don't think she could have been less helpful. When I asked a question, she replied that she would have to ask her manager, then sat there on the phone doing nothing. I had to follow up with, "would you please do that?". To get any information at all was like pulling teeth. I'll stick with the more personable and customer oriented local newsstands, whose owners appreciate every customer and every sale and will go out of their way to find what I'm looking for. read more

For years The atmosphere at this location had been outstanding. A business that has an effective plan of organizational management, and staff follows through on has my vote. Without customers there is no business. B&N practices this and are very effective in the community. My daughter is a serious reader and writer and our go-to spot is here. The only reason I am giving this store three stars is because for the most part it has been a good store. However, last night, I went into the store. There were hardly any customers but I counted 5 clerks. I stood at the help desk for several minutes waiting for one of the three clerks who were laughing and fooling around in the kids section to notice me and come up and help. Another clerk walked past the help desk twice without stopping to assist. Finally, one of them called another clerk to come and assist me. I saw the person she called answer the phone, nod her head that she understood, AND THEN WALK OFF THE FLOOR INTO THE BACK. It guess my impatience was beginning to show and one of the clerks went an got another clerk to help me. I made my purchase and quickly left. I guess being the only book store left in the area does something to the customer service quality. Sorry to be such sour lemons but hopefully the management will read this and conduct some customer service training with their evening employees. read more
