I went to Barney's beanery yesterday afternoon and it was absolutely awful. I was promptly seated, given a menu with my girlfriend, and then we were ignored for the next 30 minutes there was servers waitresses waiters walking right by us. We were in the middle of the outdoor patio, which is very busy we watched two other parties get seated and drinks brought to them. We were never talked to after 30 minutes we got up to leave as soon as we stand up someone comes and wipes on our table like did they think we ate invisible food? I have been here several times and this is just awful service. I will never be coming here again maybe I was wearing my Harry Potter cloak of invisibility. Great chill place for drinks, comfort food and people watch on 3rd Street. When it is open inside always one of the better sports bars around. It gets crowded so make reservations or be willing to wait. At least they call you when the table is ready. read more

I went to Barney's on Sunday and I'm nervous to admit it, here in public, that I've come out of it in some form of partial vegetative state. My brain no longer works correctly, it's hard to read and write, in fact this first few sentences took me 8 hours to cook up. Bear with me ok, it was a rough Sunday. I love watching football more than a fat kid loves cake. Actually, I love watching football more than a fat kid loves cake covered in ice cream with additional chunks of mashed up cake sprinkled on top. This passion of mine and Barney's teamed up to completely blow my mind with NFL goodness which, as I mentioned earlier, has completely fried my brain. The TVs.... They're everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Big ones and small ones, projected on the wall, stacked above each other, side by side... Jesus, each of the booths in the lower area have their OWN TV. Everywhere I looked: football. Head to the bathroom: 15 TVs with football. Look above the bar, football, football, football. I CAN'T TAKE IT. The insane laughing and screaming I heard every 15 seconds leads me to believe I was not the only one completely giddy with access to this much NFL at one time. Oh yea, this is a bar/restaurant so I suppose I'll comment. The food was OK, huge ass menu, standard bar grub, just a lot of it. Pretty sweet list of build your own potato skins ingredients, the guac/mushroom/jalapeño/broccoli skins I whipped up were quite fine. Beer was pricey as a mufucka, I'm talking $10.50 for a Chimay, but I didn't really care. Honestly, I could have eaten wood chips and drank stagnant pond water and been happy as can be surrounded in the football glow. Next time I'm round these parts on a Sunday I swear to god I'm going to sit here for 12 hours straight and just veg out and watch football. If you see me there please do not judge, just politely wipe the drool off my face, refill my sippie cup with beer, and let me get back to watching the game. read more

Was in the area with my cousins who was visiting from Chicago we came here because we wanted wings and we order drinks as well. We needed up ordering wings to our disappointment when we got our food it was the most disgusting wings ever, they were old and seemed to be from the day before it was really gross we told the waiter and he just com us but didn't offer to re make them or offer us something else this is why they get a bad review. read more

I walked in with my girlfriend and upon entering the bouncer begins making sexual and inappropriate comments about my girlfriend. We eventually get in after being haggled by there clearly faulty scanner and wait 20 minutes before seeing a menu or drinks. The place is disgusting, with gum on the table and food all over the seats. The staff is rude and the bouncers are awful. Please do not come here!!! read more

I will give it 2 stars because although the restaurant was filthy the food was actually delicious. We got seated outside and I could not help but notice how dirty everything on the wall was. There's dust bunnies that look bigger than anything I have ever seen. It was off putting sitting next to all of that nasty stuff. I was delighted to see the vegetarian options and was even more happy to see I was able to try the chili! Food portion was good food was tasteful. I love love love the service, the food and the ambience! Riley was the perfect server! Everything was delicious! They make a fantastic Irish coffee! (had 2, couldn't get crocked,we were trying to make a good impression. I had the Gobbler and I couldn't stop eating it, so gooooooooooood! My husband had what I thought was going to get a plain patty melt. Forget about my Gobbler! He was the gobbler or vaccum cleaner! So obviously delish! The other 3 people had clubs which were so enormous they could even eat a quarter! But what they did eat they were MMMM-ing all over the place. The one last person had a cobb salad. We came with a larger party, horrible food you could probably get better at Costco frozen section. We did our order, they forgot 3/7 items, the ones that came were wrong (sides wrong, no onions wrong.). But ESPECIALLY the management and servers. Extremely rude, we told him they messed up our order and they refused to accept they were incorrect. Told us we have to pay for everything. Please do not go to Barney's. There are so many other places to eat in Santa Monica. The food is over priced and bland. They have bland sandwiches, bland burgers, and terrible fries. Their chili tastes just like something I have had out of a can. I don't know if their onion rings are frozen or just awful. The service was slow and a tad rude, and the prices were crazy for what we were getting. The place is loud and hot. But it is clean. Other than that, really, go elsewhere. read more

Can't wait for the world to open back up to fully get the Barney's experience back. Such a good inside area, so classic. They have tons of outdoor seating now for COVID, which is nice. I got the tendies with fries and enjoyed them. Nothing life changing but quality grinds nonetheless. Tenders size are big time. Massive. Our first waitress had a really bad attitude. The food quality was okay but based on the overall experience, I wouldn't go back.

Wanted to try this place for such a long time, I did not have a good experience and the food was disappointing at the least. 30 minutes for a bottle of wine, they said the bartender had to get from the back because they were out in the front, so we chose a different wine, that didn't help the cause, then when arrived, we had to unscrew and pour, which is fine, wasn't expecting a sommelier. Straws for drinks, sorry we are out, someone is getting more, clearly there are straws all across the counter in containers in which I went and got some for the table myself. I ordered the famous chili, I couldn't handle more than two bites, grainy chili, HOW CAN CHILI BE GRAINY, well they managed to serve grainy chili. I won't be back, I just hated it. read more

The 2 stars is only because the food was okay...but WOW I do not write bad reviews but I just have to say that we have never had a hostess be so straight up mean and disrespectful to us in our lives. And we were not being difficult or rude at all -- she acted like we were the scum of the earth for asking for a table for 8 when we had made a reservation for 8 people and they put us in separate booths of 4, when we could see that there were larger tables open. I understand having bad/busy days, but being kind is not that hard, and we were stunned at the way we were being treated. Cool atmosphere. Server was friendly. Menus was huge and took forever to chose from. I ordered the juicy Lucy burger and the foreman chili, wife ordered fish and chips, 1 kiddo had the stuffed blue berry French toast, and the other two split the shocker fingers. The juicy Lucy burger was decent, not a lot of flavor so I put a couple spoons of the chili on it. The bun tasted like old oil or something was used to toast it. The chili was pretty good but could have had a little more flavor. Kids French toast tasted like old oil that had been burnt a few times (similar to the bun on my burger). The chicken strips were good and so were the fries. The fish and chips....Wait we never got them. Had to ask again for them after all we're done eating. Finally they showed up 15 minutes later and my wife seemed to enjoy however it was after we all ate. I had a few of the Barney IPA's and they were probably the best thing we ordered. The server removed the fish and chips from our bill so that was nice but expected. Overall the 3 stars are for the atmosphere and beer. The food would not bring me back for a 2nd go around but this is probably a good place to stop and have a drink after a day at Santa Monica beach. read more

From the front to the back bathroom, this place is plastered with collages of celebrity photos and news clippings. The decor is very eclectic to say the least. We sat at a booth inside and I regretted it immediately. It's like your typical sports bar with a little bit of a flair and the food tastes better. And since we weren't there to watch any game, I wished for a quieter intimate brunch. There were license plates lining the ceiling above our booth. I would not want to be there during an earthquake! Oh and I noticed that the floor shook each time someone walked by. In front of us were several huge screens showing different sports games, each had its full volume on. Surprisingly, with the noisiness, I could still carry on a conversation during the meal. Despite feeling slightly claustrophobic, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Our server was friendly and took our orders quickly. The food took a while to come out though. I decided to go for the item that stood out to me the most - the cinnamon bun French toast combo - and boy was I glad! It's the perfect entree if you're craving something both sweet and savory for brunch. It came with eggs, two sausage links and two pieces of bacon. I was stuffed! Next time I want to try the blueberry stuffed cinnamon bun French toast. My husband had the mishmash omelet. The different ingredients in there made it colorful and tasty. There were different nooks and crannies in the restaurant with random game machines and a pool table. The atmosphere was definitely casual and laid-back. I can see how this would be a cool hangout spot for some sports fans though. read more

Very casual, nothing like the bars you see in this area, 3rd promenade. So many TVs everywhere. It's only a bit cleaner and more cheerful atmosphere than the one in Redondo Beach (but it's a lot smaller than RB one). Very wide and open inside, outside seating is very cramped and tiny. Very loud and busy. But who cares when you watch games? If you don't like it, plenty of bars nearby. This is what it is, I guess. Menu: Typical bar foods and tons of beers. Price: Average on drinks, a bit too expensive for food quality. Service: Adequate. Better than Redondo Beach one. Parking: Parking structures nearby. Next to "Nike". But it'll cost you a lot if you were here for the entire game -3 or 4 hours... - Gluttony Expedition - Passionfruit Cider: Very light and like a juice. But not a bad flavor. - Conqueror's Deduction - Nothing special like every other location. I think only different thing from others is the amount of TVs for games. TONS. Drinks: meh, Food: meh, Seats: not comfy Parking is very limited here, so I don't think it's a good idea to come this area for games. But TONS of TVs are here... I'm so surprised to find such a low rating for this place. We loved our visit. Lara R took great care of us. She was very warm and friendly. She came back multiple times to check on us too. We have the captains platter and a bowl of clam chowder. This was more than enough food for two people to share. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The clam chowder was especially tasty with a distinct, yet subtle pepper flavor that kept me wanting more. They have outdoor seating with heaters and TVs. I came here with a friend in December 2019 (aka pre-pandemic). This place was pretty packed for a sports game and there was nobody around to help us so we seated ourselves. It took us at least 20 minutes to call a waiter over and then even longer to get our food. The food was okay, but I much prefer the food at other Santa Monica joints. Having said that, Barney's has a really nice vibe if you want to grab a drink, hang out with friends, and watch a game. A fun chill night out. Once things open up again, I would come back if I'm hanging out with friends on Third Street Promenade and want a place to chill at for the night. read more

Wait was fast to be seated and the environment inside is nice. The wait to get our food was about 20min. The food was very good. When we got our bill the waitress gave us the receipt and circled the tip amount was 20% which was $29 because our party was big of 6 (2 adults & 4 kids). It seemed strange to me so I asked another waiter and he said a big party was 8-10 people. The other waiter who was charging us was standing there and I asked him why was it what he had circled 20% which was the highest tip for options. He said it was the restaurants policy. Bill was $147 plus tip , 1st and last time I'll ever go there I just felt like it wasn't right and that's why I think the place deserves 2 stars. This place is low-key and simple but has delicious food and excellent service. Our waitress Fiona was so wonderful and attentive. They were extremely busy for lunch, but our food came within probably 10 minutes. They also allowed us to sit in their outside patio area with our two puppies in a dog stroller. First off, this place was totally dead on a Wednesday afternoon at 3pm. Come to find out Happy Hour started around 4... but we were too famished to wait for cheap beers so we sat and ordered up. Have you seen the menu for this place yet? Its huge! There are at least 10 pages to the menu.. and plenty of items on each page. Our waitress had to come back a few times before we were ready to make our selections. We started with a bowl of chili, which is supposedly "world famous". I don't know if people around the world know about this chili, but they should. It was excellent. Perfect combo of meats and sauces and if our meals hadn't come out we probably would have ordered another bowl. I ordered a grilled sourdough chicken sandwich with brie and Parmesan. I thought it was going to be great with that combination but it was seriously lacking some flavor. The chicken was seasoned nicely, and who doesn't like the combo of cheeses? But because there was no sauce on the sandwich it was drrrryyyyyy. I ended up asking for some bbq to add just to jazz it up a bit. Thinking about it now I wish I had asked for some lettuce and pickles too. It wasn't a bad sandwich, but with all the work that needs to go into it I don't think I'd order it again. My partner-in-crime ordered a meat lovers calzone. The calzone covered his entire plate and seemed to have the flavor that my meal was missing. The only bummer to this one is that we had to ask for some extra marinara to dip. Not a big deal, but something that should probably come on the plate. The calzone was the winner of our sandwiches... I only got to try a couple bites but the crust and toppings inside were perfectly melted and really good. We chose not to order dessert.. but they have a list of treats on the last page of the menu that we'll make sure to try next time. And last thing to mention is the decor, which I am sure people have covered already... the decor of Barney's is all things related to automobiles, which is pretty cool. The bar stools? Car seats. Great place for all ur games! Best place to get ur game and grub on! Nacho mama nachos - yum. Happy hour 4-7pm YESSSSS. The only thing is.... if you go upstairs, be prepared to test your patience. Best place to hang is in the room by the bar with your own personal TV. Oh yah. Esp. the corner with 2 of your own TVs. Because if you're like me and you wanna catch your college March Madness game AND your Lakers game, then you CAN here. Food: My friend and I had a quick dinner here on a Tuesday night before catching a movie at the AMC just across the street. I ordered their Ultimate Burger and it was a pretty dang good burger! I love burgers with arugula in it. I also had a couple of their beers, Firemans Brew Brunette and Rogue Dead Guy. Service: We were seated right away. The service was good. Our waitress was friendly, took our order, and brought out everything in a timely fashion. But again keep in mind that we were there on a Tuesday night. I'm guessing things might be a little different on a busy weekend. Location: 3rd Street Promenade. The weather was nice so we requested one of the outdoor booths that was open.
