We found this little sandwich shop tucked away in this little strip mall just off of Barrington. The restaurant itself is a lot larger than I anticipated. Just a heads up, they only accept card payments. Card payments includes Apple Pay as well as Google pay, in case you were wondering. I was impressed by the large dining area the natural light that comes through and how clean everything was. The menu is tough for me to read because I am a little bit more visually impaired these days. But they are located on three large TV screens above the register and ordering area. There are printed menus available as well. Most of their sandwiches look like they are anywhere from about $15-$18 each. They have quite a variety. I really love and appreciate that the person who took my order not only was very familiar with their sandwiches and could make some really good recommendations, but they were very mindful in letting me know if I were ordering a sandwich that were cold versus hot. Sometimes I've had the experience where I order a sandwich and I get it and it's cold. I didn't anticipate that. So, there was one sandwich that I thought I was going to order from here and the employee who is taking my order let me know that that was a good selection, but that it was a cold sandwich and not a hot one. Thank goodness. A dodge bullet on that one. I also really appreciate the fact that the employee let me know that with certain sandwiches, if the bread type was not one that I cared for that I might be able to substitute it without any problem. I ordered food for my kiddo, and I mentioned that she has a little bit more bit more difficult time with breads that are crispy or hard or tough, like a French roll. So she made it very clear to me as to which bread varieties they have that might be good for her situation. I also really like the fact that the employee knew what was in the different spreads that they use on their sandwiches. That was very helpful. I also mentioned to the employee that I am allergic to olives and cucumbers. And so, if there were any items that we were ordering that were inclusive of cucumbers and olives, she would put cucumbers on the side, but olives were not a worry because they don't use them in house at all. I was honestly just really impressed with your service and the knowledge of their staff. She said that a lot of their repeat business comes from their in-house spreads that they use on their sandwiches. I believe it. My family and I we ordered about five different sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with a side salad unless of course you go ahead and decide to order an upgraded side. Some of the examples of upgraded sides include things like french fries or a goat cheese and tomato soup. Another option was a turkey chili or a side of coleslaw or a kale pasta salad. Those are all pretty good seeming sides. Personally, I ordered pretty blindly. I didn't really look at the cost of each of the sandwiches that I ordered nor did I ask about the cost for the upgraded sides. But all in all, five sandwiches and upgraded size for each of them was a total of $100. I figured, 20 bucks per person really isn't bad these days. read more

WOW. We had an absolutely stellar experience here yesterday. We came in looking for an affordable bite to eat. My wife found The Carving Board on Google Maps, and I realized that this was the same place I had been eyeing up for months after seeing their menu and passing it on my way to work each day. Service was excellent -- everyone was friendly and kind, and the food came out quickly. While the restaurant is a counter-service only, the sitting area is very welcoming, and the plating is super cute and homey! I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, and it was absolutely superb. The chips on the side were stellar -- I would buy these by the bag! I also tried the s'mores bar, and it was excellent -- the Oreo cookies worked so well with the other s'mores flavors! My wife had the grilled cheese with goat cheese tomato soup, and the bite that I (consensually) stole was fantastic. Next door for a much needed haircut, I purchased two orders of THE BEST house-made potato chips. One for the ride home and one to make my hubby know I really was paying attention to "The Bear". Took me a while to leave this as I wanted to go back and burn this place to the ground. Service was fantastic so I left a tip. I got the French dip and club sandwiches with the chocolate chip cookies. Food was great until I was eating one of the cookies and found a paperclip in it. I've worked for over 6 years in a dinner to put myself through college and I found a couple hairs, stuff happens. But a paperclip? What kind of operation do they have there? It pains me to write this review. We've been visiting this location for a couple of years. In the past, the service and quality of the sandwiches has always been excellent. Over the last year, the quality of the experience and the sandwiches has taken radical shifts between great and terrible. When the male manager it's working, things seem to go much smoother and the quality is delivered. When he is absent, we have had three poor experiences to the point we've had to ask for refunds because the sandwich quality was so poor. The problem is the prices have gone up across the board, so poor quality is unacceptable. Also, the the team needs to focus on executing the in restaurant diners orders and not cater to the to-go orders. Some seriously delicious but fairly small sandwiches. They have many locations all around Los Angeles this being the most Westward of the bunch. It's located in a small strip mall with a lot of parking. However, the parking lot spaces are very tight so if everyone is not parking well it may be hard to find some spaces. If the parking lot is full it's easy to find free parking in the neighborhood behind the shopping center. It's more of a to go type of place although they do have tables inside to eat. The attendant behind the counter was very polite and all of our items were made quickly for a last-minute Saturday night dinner. As mentioned the sandwiches here are quite small so don't think of it like a submarine sandwich location or somewhere with giant belly busting sandwiches. It's closer to the size of Porto's sandwiches. We decided to try a few of their sandwiches. We ordered The Bentley, The Medianoche, and the Carving Club. The best of the bunch was the Bentley because the meat was truly tender and seasoned well and the sauce with it made it extra creamy and just a wonderful bite. The Medianoche was also pretty good, although not the most authentic Cuban sandwich. I wish it would've had a stronger mustard flavor, but still I really enjoyed it. The Carving Club was probably my least favorite of the three just because of its small size. The flavors were good, but it didn't have the traditional club flavors in my opinion. We also ordered the tomato soup and fries as our sides and I was a big fan of the tomato soup, however, the goat cheese in it was extremely small, but the fries were not my favorite because they were a little too crisp and hard. I tend to like mine soft and salty. Overall a solid sandwich place that has some great to go options. I would recommend anyone in the area searching for a great sandwich. read more

I've been craving a good steak sandwich after having an amazing one in the Bay Area. So while I was yelping, I found The Carving Board and we decided to come here this past Saturday. Ordering is pretty simple. Once you figure out what you want, just order with the cashier and they will bring out the food to your table when it is ready. All sandwiches come with their house made potato chips OR a side salad. If you want something else (fries, soup, etc), you can do the $2 upgrade! I went for their Steak Diane which had filet mignon with diane sauce, mushrooms, grilled onions, swiss, and spinach on a telera roll. My husband decided to go for the Bentley which had filet mignon, bacon mayo, swiss, grilled onions, and spinach on ciabatta bread. The sandwich actually normally comes with blue cheese but he subbed it for the swiss. Our friend went with their Smashouse Burger which had two beef patties, lettuce, tomato, onion, thousand island, and carving spread on a brioche bun. The Steak Diane and the Bentley were both really delicious! The mushrooms gave the sandwich such a good flavor. The filet was cooked wonderfully. The only issue I had with the Steak Diane is that because the mushrooms tend to release a lot of liquid while cooked, it soaked the telera roll a lot and the sandwich falls apart really easily. It was really messy to eat. I think if they used ciabatta bread instead, it might stay together better. Maybe next time, we could see if we could request that. The Bentley was my favorite. The bacon mayo added such savoriness to it and it went so well with the filet mignon. The bread stayed together the whole time, which was a plus! I think next time I go back, I would definitely get the Bentley. I think my friend did enjoy his burger. He did mention that he wished they used grilled onions instead of raw red onions. I personally like raw onions on my burger but maybe next time, he can see if he can request them to be grilled. The house made chips were pretty good! Except some pieces tend to be less crispy than the others. Their fries are shoe string fries so they are thin, which is actually a favorite for me -- not so much for the rest of my party. Service was okay, it took a while to get my food, but there were a bunch of tables available to sit and wait at. I got the Buenos Aires sandwich, which is a steak sandwich with chimichurri, mushrooms, and roasted red bell peppers. It was good, but nothing to rave about. The steak was flavored well and I'm a sucker for anything with chimichurri. At the price of $15.50, I would've expected a larger sandwich, but it was pretty small. However, it does come with your choice of a side salad or chips. I chose the salad with a vinaigrette dressing. The vinaigrette was a little too sour for my liking, so I'll probably chose the chips next time. But I didn't come here for the sandwich or salad. The real reason I came here was for the fried Oreos. All have been delicious! For the sides we've had the French Fries, Coleslaw, Kale Pasta Salad & Chips. I'm not a big fan of shoestring fries so I don't get those but my kids really enjoy them. I feel like the chicken salad needed a bit more of texture, else it just becomes a mushy bite in the middle. The grilled cheese was my favorite! The margarita tomato inside was a nice contrast to the buttery bite of the cheese. Dipped in the tomato soup, it was a great balance of acid and fat. The french dip sandwich was meaty and a little on the dry side that would've been moistened by the dip, but I found that the dip was somewhat lackluster.
