Waitress was flat out mean, would not make any accommodations, I asked if sandwiches could be heated and she yelled at me asking why (I'm pregnant so no cold deli meat not that I need to explain myself), said they would not heat any meats. Umm, you have a full kitchen but ok. Then she told me I could eat "American ham" instead of prosciutto....huh???? Guess I'll have avocado toast..... My friend ordered an affogato that never came, when we asked about it, she told it was our fault for requesting it from someone else and not her. WOW. Auto tip feature asks for 20% 22% or 25%, you want a 20 something percent tip for rude service and food that never came??? Staff needs better training. read more

Really adorable outdoor spot to have some wine late at night. Came in a bit late and they were very gracious about letting us sit and talk past kitchen close. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Only weirdness was ordering a $16 glass of wine and an $18 cocktail and the final bill came out to $43 before tax. Not sure if it was the bottle of still water we unthinkingly said yes to, or some kind of table fee; we weren't shown an itemized bill, just a number on a tap machine. Now that is real Italian cuisine! Having gone to Italy a couple of years ago, I've longed for Italian food that is more like what I've had in Rome, Florence, and Milan, and Sogno Toscano (of Tuscany region) is the real deal! The Salumi Experience charcuterie delivers in the variety of fine sliced cured deli with green Italian olives and taralli crackers from Puglia. Coupled with the tastiest foccacia bread I've had stateside, it's worth the experience. Od the two sandwiches my brother and I ordered, the Wagyu Pastrami combo is out of this world. The pastrami alone elevates what is already a delicious Foccacia sandwich to another level with its mildly sweet flavor and delicious texture. But that's not to say that the Bufalina isn't good. It's really good and a real classic, especially if you have not had authentic Italian Focacxia sandwich before. I have a feeling you can't go wrong with any of the choices here, which means I'll have to come back and explore more of the menu! read more

I live nearby and had been wanting to try this place for a while, but unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. The appetizers were decent, but the three main dishes we ordered all tasted very similar. They were all very heavy on cheese and seasoning, to the point that you couldn't really taste the freshness of the ingredients. We also felt really thirsty after the meal. We had a reservation so we didn't have to wait for a table, but it took about 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. There were only two servers working while the restaurant had around a dozen tables, which felt quite understaffed. The servers themselves were friendly, but they clearly had too many tables to handle. Overall, the food was not great and the experience felt like a waste of time. The patio is beautiful and the plates are very nice, so I'm giving two stars mainly for the ambiance. read more

The sole reason for this review is this continual practice of restaurants advertising that they're open to a specific time and then you show up and they have excuses like the kitchen closed early or whatever. I've been involved with restaurants for 40 years. If you're going to publish the fact that you're open till a certain time then you stay open till that time and the kitchen closes an hour after that time. None of this business of saying that you're open till 10 you walk in at 5 to 10 and you must order in five minutes. In this case they advertise that they're open till 10 but you walk in and they say no the kitchen closed at nine and we're open till 10 but what good does that do in a restaurant. This is not really a bar. It is a restaurant with poor music so all they have is the restaurant. I'm just really tired of this. I've seen it over and over again in California. I have never seen this in other states. The service here is terrible. The only thing they have going for it is the food, since the overall ambience of this place is like a deli. read more

Overall great experience here! The dog friendly patio was comfortable and cozy, and the live music was an excellent touch. Our food came out really quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. I came to Sogno Toscano in Santa Monica hoping for Amalfi Coast café vibes. Instead, it felt like the set of a Hallmark movie where the lead opens a Tuscan bistro with little culinary experience but a lot of hope. The patio gave light Eat Pray Love energy. You know, someone bought string lights and said, "Let's open our hearts... and maybe a restaurant." The real ambiance MVP was the accordion player. That man was doing God's work, injecting a little Europe into the air while I tried to emotionally bond with a $30 truffle pasta (without protein) that tasted like it flew Spirit Airlines from Florence and left its flavor in the overhead bin. The pasta was cooked fine. But the truffle? Missing. I would've settled for a whisper. A hallucination. You know that movie PIG, where Nicolas Cage loses his beloved truffle pig and spirals into grief? That pig definitely wasn't involved in sourcing this dish. We also tried the $29 truffle sandwich, Deliziosa. Cute name. Mid sandwich. If it had a personality, it would be someone who calls themselves a foodie but thinks black pepper is spicy. To be fair, the staff was lovely. Warm, kind, attentive. They were doing the best they could, like the cast of a community theater version of The Godfather: Café Edition. Sogno Toscano means "Tuscan dream," but right now it's giving overpriced nap with background music. 5 out of 10. Come for the vibes. Stay for the accordion. Leave before your wallet files a complaint in Italian. read more

We're seated quickly, but then left at the table for 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledges us or takes a drink order. The food takes an incredibly long time to arrive, and the staff often act annoyed when we ask another employee to send our server over -- as if we're inconveniencing them by trying to place an order. On my most recent visit, I asked for wine recommendations since most of the list is Italian. Instead of offering guidance, the server simply read the menu back to us. When we asked to taste a couple options, she told us we were limited to two tastings per table. Those pours were less than half an ounce each -- which we had to share -- despite the wines being $20 a glass with already light pours. The food itself is just okay, but not good enough to justify the long waits, the lack of attention, or the attitude from the staff. After three visits with the same issues, I can confidently say the service is consistently poor, and the overall experience just isn't worth it. read more

I came here for dinner Wednesday night with two friends around 7:30 pm. We were seated immediately outside (by request) because the courtyard is amazing at night!! Most of the other tables seemed to be couples or dates, so the vibe leans more romantic but my table definitely enjoyed ourselves without feeling like we were ruining the vibe. It took a bit for the whole party to arrive and get situated, but once we ordered the food came out really quickly. I got the porcini lasagna and it was so perfect. I'm really picky about Italian food, but this tasted like the lasagna my great aunt makes every Christmas . Needless to say, I devoured my entire entrée. My table split the red pepper pomodoro soup and that was delicious too! Our waitress, Hannah, really went above and beyond the entire time. While we were waiting for our last guest to join, she checked in with our table to make sure we were all good with a smile and great conversation. During the meal she seamlessly answered everyone's questions (even during sidebar conversations) and was so on it and knowledgeable. We ended up chatting with her for a bit at the end our meal too and I only feel slightly bad for distracting her from her other tables, she's a hoot and if you can request anyone as a server I would highly recommend her!! read more

Very overpriced for a bed a mixed lettuce, a couple of tomatoes not even enough for each slice of cheese and 3 small slices of bread. When we asked for an additional piece of bread, they told us there was an additional charge, which we agreed to only to realize it was a different type of bread. Came here for dinner on a Friday night. We came early and we were able to get seated outside fairly quickly under some large heaters. The inside is very cozy and sell some Italian goods and small kitchen appliances / accessories. Ordered an appetizer and two pastas. Two pastas came out VERY fast and tasted average.
