Loved our visits so far. We both usually order breakfast food, my favorite is french toast with bacon & eggs. Bacon always cooked super crispy as I like it & toast served with cinnamon on the side to douse as much on it as I'd like. Quite small location but the staff can actually handle the customers which is another reason why we like this place. Pleasant & friendly staff, always checked on you & made sure you were taken care of. We haven't tried it at peak period yet but I'm sure it'll happen at some point. To preempt the rest of my review, I will say that my husband and I come here often and tip generously so this is disappointing to write but here goes. When we first started coming to the diner, the food was fresh and the service was good. However, the last few turns have not been all that great. We noticed that the pancakes and French toast were made well in advance and tend to sit out in stacks for quite some time so by the time you actually receive it on your table, the food is either barely warm or a bit tough. I'm not sure about other people but I would rather wait a little longer and have my food freshly prepared. Having received our pancakes and French toast barely warm and tough the last time, we thought that we would be a bit smart about it and order a waffle so we know that it would be prepared fresh. Unfortunately, we could see that they made the waffle and left it sitting there for quite some time before bringing it to the table so it was cold to the point where the butter wouldn't even melt on it. Needless to say, we sent it back. We waited a solid 10 to 15 minutes longer and noticed that they had made another waffle and opened the waffle maker but it again sat there while we waited. When the waitress finally remembered that we had sent back a waffle and that it was likely going to be cold, she closed the waffle maker on the waffle that had been sitting there to try to warm it up again. My husband had finished his entire meal at this point. She finally opens the waffle maker on my reheated waffle and brings it to the table after quite some time. I'm not up for eating it at this point given that I sent back a cold waffle twenty minutes prior and now I'm presented with a twice cooked waffle. Bottom line, I love the ladies who work here, the prices are good but the way they go about prepping the food lately in the interest of a quick turnaround has soured our experience over time. Please bring back FRESH food and you've got a lasting customer. read more

Disappointed in the service. We went on a Thursday night and there was one waitress and one cook and they sat in the corner on their phones the whole time. Ok thought I hit a lil gold mine when I found this restaurant on accident [after IHOP was not a option]. First impression seem very positive, the place was jammed packed and the place was buzzing. After ordering my breakfast I quickly realized that my order was hastily thrown on my plate. Cluster of bacon all stuck together was half uncooked, eggs were soaked in oil and toast had no butter on the side or on it, after asking for butter for my toast the toast got cold. It all began when I wanted a real ice cream milkshake after 10PM on a Thursday night in NoVA. Figuring that a diner would be the best place to accomplish this, we pulled up the Yelp app and found the Barnside. We have nostalgic memories of the Barnside in College Park (now an independent diner), so this seemed like a place to try. It was pretty packed, thanks to a local high school graduation, but we snagged an open table and waited for service. We waited quite a while for anything, and I'm not sure I'd call it service. It was clear that they were terribly understaffed - two servers and two cooks handling a full house with high turnover is insufficient. But our server eventually stopped by, and I ordered my milkshake along with some hashbrowns and fried okra. Unsurprisingly, it took a long time for food to arrive. In the meantime, even more people showed up, jamming 8-9 people at 4-6 person tables, and even sitting down at dirty tables that had not yet been bussed. I'm pretty sure I could see the servers' blood pressure rising. Our food showed up. The hashbrowns were greasy, lukewarm,and barely browned. The okra was sitting in a bowl in a 1/4" of grease, overcooked, and slightly burnt on the breading. We stared at this in dismay, sighed, and started to eat. Then the server showed up, harried, and told me that there were no milkshakes - would I like chocolate milk instead? I didn't initially understand what she was saying, as the restaurant was loud and she spoke in a voice that wasn't much more than a whisper. Not knowing what to do (I only came here for a milkshake!), I consented to chocolate milk and was brought a bottle of Nesquick and a straw. It was the best part of the meal, even as it tasted of utter disappointment. Milkshake achievement: not unlocked. We finished up as quickly as we could, as there were hordes waiting at the door for tables, slapped a few bucks on the table for a tip, and went to the register to pay. We were handed our check for $15-something, and gave the server a credit card. She had some trouble getting it to go through, and had to re-process it. What we didn't realize until we were in the car and looking at the receipt was that she'd grabbed the wrong check to re-process - we'd paid $22-something when she actually ran the card. Then when we got the statement for the credit card, they actually charged our card three times - twice for $15.47 and once for $22.04! So, in the end, we paid over $50 to suffer through one of the most disappointing $15 meals I have ever eaten. We're in the process of working things out with the credit card company. This was, perhaps, my worst experience at a diner. And that's a difficult judgement to make, as I've suffered many diner debacles. All in want of a milkshake... read more

First time coming to this place and gotta say it's pretty great! I ordered the pancake combo which is pancakes ( you can add chocolate chips, strawberry, etc.) , your choice of meat and 2 eggs. The waitress was very nice and attentive throughout the dining experience. The food came out pretty quick, and I was surprised by the portion sizes, the pancakes were pretty big! The bacon was nice and crispy, the scrambled eggs were good (could have been cooked just a tiny bit more but it was no big issue). Overall a great first experience and would definitely have to come back to try their other foods read more

Well we've been here many times before and loved the diner feel and the food, service etc. As perhaps Carmite C. put it, it could be under new management. Food this time was meh.. craved a diner breakfast and instead of a more local diner, decided to drive out and come here because we always had a good experience. This time was, well, meh, like I said. I found this place by chance. My husband and I were on the way to lunch meeting when we saw it and committed the location to memory. It served us well when I got a 1 am pregnancy food craving. We were greeted by the staff as soon as we entered and were told we could sit anywhere we wanted. Our waiter was the BEST. For the record I am not showing yet so I did not get excellent service because he knew I was pregnant - it wasn't even a topic of conversation. Anyways, the drinks were delivered promptly, - before I even put the napkin on my lap. The food arrived in less than 5 minutes of us ordering - and cooked perfectly & to our exact specifications. I had the cheese steak and it was AWESOME! Bear in mind I do not like real Philly cheese steaks, so if you do, this is not your cheese steak. My husbands coffee never got past half full! His breakfast platter was cooked perfectly. He is very picky about his eggs and he loved them. Our waiter offered fresh hot refills before he even emptied his cup. When I asked for a second order of fries (yes, after I finished the full sized cheese steak and a first order, there wasn't a moments delay. A new side of fries arrived fresh out of the frier. This visit was perfection. I've been to another local diner that I absolutely hate and it was so refreshing to find one with good service and good food. We had breakfast there for our first visit. It is a nice clean place with a bright open interior. The menu is loaded with standard breakfast fare. Omelets, pancakes, waffles, etc. The omelette was very good and with the toast and hash browns that came with it. The service was good, the prices were reasonable. This place is a great roadside diner for breakfast! Came here with my dad and uncle for breakfast. Ordered the sausage and eggs with white toast for myself which also came with hash browns. The sausage wasnt that great, it was overcooked and I had assumed it would be the sausage link but it was a round patty. I would recommend ordering the ham or bacon instead. We also ordered a t-bone steak which was surprising really good! The meat was juicy and melted in your mouth which was more surprising considering your paying only $15 for the steak! Our last order was a ham and sunny side egg order which was also very good. All the plates came with hash browns and a side of toast or english muffin. Seeing and tasting the equality of the food, I have to assume this place has been here for many years and has developed a solid foundation on making breakfast food. This place is great for a quick breakfast pickup! I will have to come back for more! Not to mention cheap eats! The total for three people including coffee was $45. read more

The onion rings were quite tasty and the burger was good too - albeit a bit small (not really a problem but if you want a big burger - get a double). I was in the mood for diner grease and this fit the bill. The biscuits and gravy my husband had were also good. The price is right and it wasn't busy at all on a Monday night. My favorite diner at the moment. 24 hours with great tasting breakfast that comes out within 10 minutes of ordering and for cheap? Cannot beat it. Seems to be family owned, always friendly and accomodating when we come in. I have never tried anything other than breakfast but it does not dissappoint, the outside is a bit offputting at first and I had never thought of going in until a friend recommended and I havent looked back since. 2 stars for the lovely waitress we had and the decent flapjacks. That's it sad to say. They microwave pretty much everything! We sat at the counter in front of the stove and watched it all. I sent back the French toast because it was still frozen in the middle! They pull them out of a frozen bag, line them on a plate, and zap them in the microwave. Slab some butter on the side and cover it w powder sugar. Very disappointing. They do this with the biscuits and gravy too! Gross..anyway, I pretty much lost my appetite as I watched how they prepared everything from bags. Except the eggs..which they cooked w the white part still runny. The coffee was the color of tea..it was so weak. The Belgium waffles were no more than what you get at a free hotel breakfast do it yourself waffle iron. Needless to say..won't return. It was either this place or ihop and I am a person who prefers the little mom and pop place. Let me start off by stating that the employees are VERY VERY FRIENDLY! There's not much room for a big family but it's not big deal to sit apart. I do not know if it's a VA thing but my wife order a bacon egg and cheese and it was given to her on a toast. I have never seen that before anywhere. As you would expect in any diner to serve home fries (which is one of the main reasons why I don't iHop) they do not. This place is friendly and provides fast customer service!!! I love coming here for breakfast, their breakfast menu has lots of variety and your order comes so fast, the cooks are awesome.
