The food was great. Service was great. Had an authentic dinner feel which I loved. Sweet tea tasted like lipton powder mix which I did not love. This will be my go to diner when I'm in the Alexandria area. It was sooo busy and now I know why!

Country Fried Steak Dinner Classic Patty Melt

Who doesn't love a 24 hour diner? Apparently us.. We got in pretty late to Alexandria and this place was recommended to us. Honestly? If we had known the options, we would have grabbed premade sandwiches from 7 eleven. Ok so the place had one server and one cook. Neither probably wanted to be there but I can't really blame them.. it isn't their fault the quality of the food is so bad. My sympathy for them is why I even gave two stars. The tea tasted like there was fruit punch in it, so we switched to a root beer. I ordered the country fried steak and my husband ordered the patty melt. The country fried steak was the saddest excuse for country fried steak I have ever seen. I was offered brown gravy and sausage gravy? So I just got brown. Either already made or a powder mix reheated with water. The mashed potatoes were texturally weird. I know they were instant but maybe not stirred enough with hot water? Even the veggies were weird, tasted old. The broccoli was yellow. The patty melt...The rye bread was good and toasted perfectly. The beef patty was probably the most bottom rung beef I have had since my adolescence. The green beans tasted reheated out of a can that has probably been there since Bob & Edith originally opened the restaurant.. It left a lot to be desired. I'd have to be completely hammered and unable to walk, desperate for some kind of food substance to even consider eating from here again.

First time dining at Bob & Eddies Diner in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The restaurant is walking distance to King Street Metro Station and is open 24 hours. We enjoyed our breakfast: French toast, eggs, country fried steak with sausage & gravy etc. We give it 4/5 stars! The service was great and food didn't take very long. Give them a try when in the area. Happy Yelping :)

The place was swamped at 9:45 Sunday morning with a line out the door. Super attentive service. Classic diner atmosphere. Other wait staff checking on you and pumping out diner food as fast as they could. Sat at the counter and watched the line cooking food. Live food tv. Had the country fried steak and eggs with hash brown with white gravy. Excellent Sunday morning belly buster. Eat here!

Pleasant diner serving tasty comfort food. My breakfast (eggs and potatoes) was very good. Friendly ambiance. Nice place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

I went in this morning based off of a review that stated they had the best cheese steak in the area. Hmmmmm well it was okay for a diner for sure . Not the best but still a solid sandwich. I didn't really care for the fries or the chocolate cream pie which just tasted artificial , which is sad because it looked amazing. The service is fast and friendly the restaurant was clean and smelled lovely which is amazing for a 24 hour establishment. My sister ordered actual breakfast which looked and smelled amazing.

This is what I received after asking for extra butter on my toast.

First time at this location although I have been to two of the other locations. Good food and quick service. Comfortable environment. One thing here that has been consistent at other locations: even if I ask for extra, for some reason they never put enough butter on my toast.

    Breakfast Sampler

Bob & Edith's in old town is a staple. I tried something new even though I've been here many times. I tried the Breakfast sampler- which has 3 meats, eggs your way, pancakes and hash browns. I went with ham, bacon and scrapple for the meats. The scrapple tasted a bit dry (like it was frozen), but the bacon was super fresh and ham was good. The service was very fast (even though it was July 4) and the waiter checked on the table a few times and made sure we had refills. Pro tip: ALWAYS ORDER THE PANCAKES!

Came to try out the 24/7 diner and it was excellent. I got the country fried steak and my husband got the sausage gravy and biscuits.

There was no wait time to be seated and we were assisted right away. I ordered a simple scramble eggs bacon and home fries to eat for breakfast. The eggs and bacon were cooked nicely. The home fries were a little burn and undercooked as the potatoes were still hard towards the middle. The staff was friendly and there were families making the place feel homey. I ordered a tuna melt to go which was placed on white bread which i found weird but the tuna melt was good.

You almost can't find a place like this in a location like this. Very original, very bright, very clean and nearly nostalgic. We came for the chicken fried steak - everyone who serves this serves their own version, and so does Bob and Edith's. Theirs is a good variation on the standards, with a much thicker gravy and slightly heavier breading on the steak. However, a good combo, with attentive service to boot. Worth the stop, places like this are rare and something to look for.

Bob and Edith's is a nice neighborhood diner in Alexandria. The service was quick and the food was pretty good. The hash browns were made just how I like them, crunchy on top. The western omelette was tasty and made well. My wife liked her breakfast as well.

Stars and planets...catered to my granddaughter.

A classic American diner - good food at a reasonable price. There's a nice little barstool area, and plenty of tables and booths.

I was intrigued by the pastrami sandwich options on the menu and really appreciated that gluten free bread was an option, so I had to try it! I was not disappointed at all. The sandwich was hefty - packed with meat, and flavorful. I'm not sure I liked the pile of salad that comes on the side - it's a lot to finish for one person and seems a bit wasteful. The service was good, but the sandwiches did take a bit longer than expected to come out. That might not be the case for other dishes though. I would certainly visit again!

2 out of 3 isn't bad, but it's not great, either…read more Like other diners here in NYC and elsewhere, Carnegie has a huge menu and serves generous portions at appropriate prices. For example, yesterday, I had their Peter's Special, a sandwich made from 1/2 lb of pastrami and 1/2 lb of corned beef. Except that it's not "a" sandwich, but three, all on delicious rye bread, each with its own pickle, and a small helping of slaw, sauerkraut, and a major pile of salad. It was my lunch yesterday; the remaining two sandwiches are my lunch today and tomorrow. That's three meals for $30, which, to me, is a reasonable price. The problem was that the more they do to create the food, the less flavorful it is. For example, on another recent visit, I had their Country Style Omelet. Again, it was huge and contained everything that goes into a great omelet. Except, there wasn't a lot of flavor. And that seems to be the theme. I grabbed a slice of their 24-layer cake and, again, big but not much taste beyond sweetness. If you crave a lot of food, then this might be the spot for you. However, if you prefer less and more, smaller portions with better, more nuanced flavor, then maybe try one of the other nearby restaurants.

Bob & Edith's Diner - Old Town Alexandria, King Street Metro…read more Heading to Newport News, I had booked an Amtrak Regional set to leave Alexandria, Virginia's King Street Station at 7:15 a.m. The Amtrak station shares the same footprint as the Metro Blue and Yellow rail lines and bus lines served by DASH (free) and WMATA Metro Bus (fare charged). My train's departure wasn't until 7:15 a.m. and at 5:45 a.m. the Lyft driver dropped me off at the Amtrak station, which is not open until 6 a.m. With at least an hour of waiting time, I headed a block down King Street to see what breakfast was like at Bob & Edith's Diner, located at 1743 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314. This early in the morning, the sidewalks and streets were pretty much empty, save for one of those large tourist buses that was parked in front of the restaurant, empty. I'm guessing the only customer in the restaurant other than me was the bus operator, busy reading a newspaper over coffee. My goal was to order a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a Philly sub roll ($9.99) to take with me on the train. The menu - featuring all manner of comfort food for any meal - was impressive. The dining area and restrooms were clean and spacious; service was attentive without being intrusive, and noise levels were low enough to allow inside-voice conversations. The sandwich was wrapped to go and smelled heavenly at 6 a.m. After boarding my train I headed to the café car, bought an orange juice, and sat down to eat the sandwich. Still warm, the meal was perfect! I've lived in Alexandria for about 15 years, and this is the first time I'd visited Bob & Edith's Diner under its current management. There are enough menu variations that I likely will make this a go-to stop for my train travel. Well done!

As always seems to be the case, this place is run by a restaurant group, because I have yet to see a small independent establishment pull this nonsense. Food is passable albeit not great. Just note that in the name of "transparency" the prices are hiding the actual costs behind this fee. If you want to round it out to 20% with a tip, at least the fee tells you exactly how much that is. I have to assume the 10% fee is going to increased wages because that's what I82 is about. If the restaurant group is pocketing any of that balance then they are just stealing from their staff, which might explain why the staff is not upfront about the rationale for the fee.

Great Food, Vine & Customer Service!…read more I stopped in here for a quick bite with a friend before heading to an eye doctor appointment next door. I must say I really like the vibe of this place. Beeline Diner is one of diners that are retro-cool and has a neighborhood feel to it. It's very popular with the locals and folks that live around the area. I couldn't help but noticed how friendly the staff was and seemed to know their regular patrons. That's a great plus, in my book. The menu is loaded with lots of great options and your comfort food classics...including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. On this day, we tried the chicken & waffles and steak omelette. Both more delicious and was served fairly quick! The portions were great too definitely enough food to share. The check was tender, juicy and most of all.....seasoned!! lol The waffles were pretty standard on taste but I would say they fluffy and light. The steak omelette did not disappoint either. It was loaded with sirloin steak, cheese and onions! Every lift of my fork left me with bits of steak bites! My kind of meal for sure!!! The only negative about this dish is that the steak is not made to order or cooked to your preference (I.e. medium, medium rare, well done, etc.). Instead the steak it's already pre-cooked and I was told by the server that it is roughly around, medium-well. That might be okay for some, but I prefer my steak month medium side. Medium-well makes this dish and steak overcooked by the time it's delivered to you. This was the case for me. The sirloin steak was a bit on the tough side...as know as chewy. lol Other than this, I have nothing but great things to say about my first visit to this establishment. The customer service was on point and everyone was so friendly. This!...& the Chicken n' Waffles dish won me over. We left pretty full and satisfied....which was a little disappointing because the desserts in the display cases looked amazing and I really wanted to dive-in on one of them! In all, you can't go wrong with Beeline Diner. The food hits the spot and the price point is great too. I recommend and looking forward to coming back to try some of the other plethora of dishes they serve! :-)
