The place has a really cool exterior and interior. There was a lovely fireplace, stained glass lights around the bar, and the restaurant sits on top of a hill with a nice view. Our waitress Jody was so sweet and pleasant. That was all great but the food and drinks were not hitting the mark. My espresso martini was just really coffee with vodka,no beans. The blackberry sangria was tastey but no fruit except the garnish on the rim. We had fried calamari topped chili sauce which was okay. The French onion soup did not have one onion in it. The lemon pepper salmon special tasted fishy to me but my husband thought it was just overcooked. Very nice location, small eating area but nicely decorated for Christmas. There is a small fireplace Which is cozy for the winter. They give you complimentary bread. Alright, so Barnyard and Carriage House... 5/5 on vibe. Great outdoor food area, huge bar. You can watch the volleyball leagues playing. Great service, pretty quick too. Very, very limited vegetarian options (like bowl of lettuce or a veggie burger). And some of the food is pretty good and some is not. Didn't love the hot pretzel sticks (and hot pretzels are literally my favorite food), they were just really fried? Chicken Caesar salad was good salad for the salad and dressing aspect, but the chicken was pretty dry. Other friends at the table either loved their meal or didn't. But it was a real mix and that seems to be the case every time we come... hence the 3 star review. The vibe is enough to keep us coming back. Will try more dishes and maybe we'll bump this up to four stars in the future. read more

We joined some family* here for lunch today. The bldg and the grounds were lovely looking. The inside has both banquet rooms for private events as well as a family feel bar and dining area. We were seated right away and the server was very prompt and friendly. Menu although not that large had a good variety. From appetizers and soups to full on entrees there was plenty to choose from. They had several specials to offer today. They are known for the burgers apparently. My aunt and husband both had the Swiss Mountain Burger. Both enjoyed them. Although the cooking between them was a bit different. My husband's was a bit pink IMO but he likes rare so didn't really care. My daughter enjoyed the penne and meatballs from the dedicated kids menu. It came with a drink and dessert. The portion was hearty and she loved the meatball! Dinner rolls on the table were amazing. Mini chibatta style that were crusty in the outside and soft and chewy in the inside. My uncle had the chicken cashew salad. Large salad although looked like only iceberg as the base. Overall filled with plenty of toppings. I enjoyed one of the salmon specials for today. I chose the grilled lemon pepper salmon. All entrees like this are served with either rice or potato and veggies. I had mashed which were very creamy and flavorful. The salmon had good flavor but IMO was cooked just a little too long. It was flaky but the edges seemed a little dry. Overall I'd recommend it but suggest asking for a medium cook. They offered a dessert menu although everyone was full and decided on just some specialty coffee. Most dishes were in the $15-25 range. Barnyard is a great place to hang out at when the weather is nice out - in fact, that is the only time I really come here. There is ample outdoor seating along with volleyball courts on the side (there are volleyball leagues that play here) which is actually how I found out about this place, a few friends of mine are in a volleyball league. I never sit inside, and I don't think I will ever. The food is pretty good - the usual American food, I always order a burger with fries. Service has always been very good - bartenders are very attentive. Ample parking in the lot. I'm looking forward to when the weather gets warmer again so I can come back :) read more

Stopped in this establishment for a change of pace. Wifey ordered a strip steak (excellent) arrived as ordered and with that wonderful grilled flavor. Wifey opted for grilled broccoli and a baked potato with of course, sour cream. My meal was a grilled sirloin sandwich with the best French fries I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Nothing special just well done and wonderful. Dessert was raspberry drizzled cheesecake. Everything was stellar including our server Luanne. What I didn't mention here was how pleasant and magnificent the patio here is. The tavern restaurant is low key but yet oddly upscale. As far as our food, I've heard great things about the Rich man's burger which is essentially filet mignon served like a burger. We enjoy the Barnyard for the outdoor dining. The patio is very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and the tables are big and spacious. Also, the waitstaff is super friendly and efficient also. I can only give the Barnyard 2"3 stars because the food is never good. We go back because of the outdoor area, but the food is really not good. I feel like they buy it from one of those food companies that have everything premade so all they have to do is warm it up. Nothing is from scratch. Tonight I got a bunless burger and the cheese on it was just way too yellow. It reminded me of the American cheese slices you buy in the supermarket that are individually wrapped. The burger was shaped in a perfect circle. Burgers that perfect of a circumference are not made fresh - let's be honest. It's worth a shot if you want to have a cocktail outside and enjoy the evening. I just have to share with my family and friends the experience I had yesterday at my daughters baby shower with Michael Holland at the Barnyard and Carriage House. It's obvious in his words " you people" are not welcome at this establishment. I arrived at the venue to only find the vendors I hired ready to refund me my money and leave because of the disrespect and racism that they experienced with Mr. Holland. When I arrived he started screaming in my face because they used the wrong elevator. Nothing was damaged. The vendors even asked him where should they go and his response was use your common sense and figure it out. A few of my guests were disrespected upon entering the venue. I couldn't even enjoy myself because of all the stress this man had put me through from the time I entered the place. I was literally in tears and could not believe this was really happening and after all of that he wanted to offer me a shot. I don't want a shot, I just want some RESPECT! I DO NOT recommend supporting this venue because we, people of color, are definitely NOT WELCOME he made that clear! I was highly upset when I found out the President of Barnyard and Carriage House, Michael Holland was highly disrespectful to my family and vendors who were setting up. He referred to my family and vendors as "You People" and screamed in my Aunts face. My fiancée is pregnant and Michael Holland completely ruined this special moment. If you are a person of color please steer clear from this establishment. As a paying customer you should not feel as though you are not welcomed. And that is exactly how we feel still the day after. Michael Holland clearly doesn't know how to provide customer service and it's sad that I think it's only to people of color. On the bright side, the wait staff and bartenders were amazing! How can you treat paying customers like this? If you are a person of color, you might not want to have your event here. We are obviously not welcomed. Michael was beyond rude, even to my guest as they were entering the building and trying to find the room. On a positive note, the severs and bartender were very professional and nice. We really appreciated their service. The food was also really good. However, due to what we experienced at the beginning of the event, I would never patron this business, and I will be sure to tell everyone about my experience. Well we liked this place. The last time I was here was about 18 years ago. I don't have a problem with the decor. It's rustic... log cabin(ish). I'm not sure why some people say this place needs a renovation. It was clean, if a little dark due to the dark wood. The service (Debbie) was very good too... and it was busy at 6pm. I had a burger which came out perfectly medium rare... on a large English muffin... with sweet potato fries. Excellent. My wife was trying to be good and had flounder, (also with sweet potato fries) which she enjoyed very much. I had a Stella Artois cider, which I'd never had before. I really enjoyed this and am going to stop by the liquor store to see if I can find some to bring home. I did use a GroupOn with no problem. I then got a 20% discount card for our next visit so that was a nice little bonus. I WILL be using it too. read more
