Bread in the soup
Marge M.

The place has a really cool exterior and interior. There was a lovely fireplace, stained glass lights around the bar, and the restaurant sits on top of a hill with a nice view. Our waitress Jody was so sweet and pleasant. That was all great but the food and drinks were not hitting the mark. My espresso martini was just really coffee with vodka,no beans. The blackberry sangria was tastey but no fruit except the garnish on the rim. We had fried calamari topped chili sauce which was okay. The French onion soup did not have one onion in it. The lemon pepper salmon special tasted fishy to me but my husband thought it was just overcooked. I had the grilled chicken cashew salad which was okay although the chicken was dry, bland, and overcooked. This place has so much potential if the food had hit the mark.

I could not recommend going to Barnyard enough if you live in the Totowa/ Wayne area. The service is top tier and the food is amazing. I especially loved the French onion soup (so warm and comforting) and the red velvet cake.

French onion soup .

Great French onion soup but wasn't crazy about my French dip. It had a weird taste but not like the meat was bad or anything but maybe the spices they used I just I didn't like it.

Beautiful open patio just relax and enjoy nature

Very excellent food tasty good environment very professional, beautiful outdoor scenery. A very hidden gem for the people in New Jersey here in Totowa.

Chicken marsala

Very nice location, small eating area but nicely decorated for Christmas. There is a small fireplace Which is cozy for the winter. They give you complimentary bread. I ordered the chicken marsala with mash potatoes & vegetables, the meal was delicious. My friend really enjoyed the chicken parmigiana too. The waitress was friendly and very attentive. Plenty of parking. There is also an area where you can rent a hall.

The bar

Good service, the food was very tasty and good amount, the bartenders Stefano and Dan were amazing, so kind and attentive, I highly recommend this place, you can have table service or you can stay at the bar, I went there with my coworkers, I liked the atmosphere there a relaxing ambiance

The red umbrellas did not made the sun more comfortable, but absolutely blinding. Don't say it's sliced rib eye steak sandwich and then hand me hamburger meat.

Alright, so Barnyard and Carriage House... 5/5 on vibe. Great outdoor food area, huge bar. You can watch the volleyball leagues playing. Great service, pretty quick too. Very, very limited vegetarian options (like bowl of lettuce or a veggie burger). And some of the food is pretty good and some is not. Didn't love the hot pretzel sticks (and hot pretzels are literally my favorite food), they were just really fried? Chicken Caesar salad was good salad for the salad and dressing aspect, but the chicken was pretty dry. Other friends at the table either loved their meal or didn't. But it was a real mix and that seems to be the case every time we come... hence the 3 star review. The vibe is enough to keep us coming back. Will try more dishes and maybe we'll bump this up to four stars in the future.

Food is amazing, service is excellent overall a great experience, everyone leaving 1 star reviews are just a bunch of KARENS who are losers and have nothing better to do.

Barnyard is a great place to hang out at when the weather is nice out - in fact, that is the only time I really come here. There is ample outdoor seating along with volleyball courts on the side (there are volleyball leagues that play here) which is actually how I found out about this place, a few friends of mine are in a volleyball league. I never sit inside, and I don't think I will ever. The food is pretty good - the usual American food, I always order a burger with fries. Service has always been very good - bartenders are very attentive. Ample parking in the lot. I'm looking forward to when the weather gets warmer again so I can come back :)

Stopped in this establishment for a change of pace. Wifey ordered a strip steak (excellent) arrived as ordered and with that wonderful grilled flavor. Wifey opted for grilled broccoli and a baked potato with of course, sour cream. My meal was a grilled sirloin sandwich with the best French fries I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Nothing special just well done and wonderful. Dessert was raspberry drizzled cheesecake. Everything was stellar including our server Luanne. What I didn't mention here was how pleasant and magnificent the patio here is. The tavern restaurant is low key but yet oddly upscale. Available here also is a large reception hall suitable for weddings, graduations bar and bat mitzvah. Simply perfect a location for any event.

I proceeded to check the place out and decided to approach the bar. I ordered a drink and apparently the bartender made the wrong type of drink. I then waited there for about 12 minutes to try to get a hold of the waitress. Finally when she saw that I was trying to get a hold of her she asked me what I wanted and I explained to her my problem. She stated that it wasn't her problem and that I would have to pay for a new drink. Meanwhile the drink was right in front of me untouched and she still want me to buy another drink. I personally have never in my life had this type of experience. I asked her if I would be able to speak to the manager. The manager on duty was behind the bar. I was told that he would talk to me when he had a chance. He actually never came over to introduce himself. He ac never came over at all. I spent the rest of my night which was only another hour giving the place a second chance. No manager ever came by and left the worst taste in my mouth. I would never go to this place again. Any type of new business that can care less about the customer experience does not deserve my business or anyones for that matter. I will continue giving my business to other places that actually appreciate my presence and have customer loyalty.

Needless to say, the party didn't take place due to Covid-19. Upon checking our bank account we determined that XO Private Functions cashed our check on 3/6/20 which was the day after we were there and one month before the party!! With Gov. Murphy's restrictions still in place we contacted XO Functions and spoke with the owner. She indicated to us that she spent our deposit and does not have our money. What???!!!! A deposit is supposed to be attached to a contract not cashed the next day. They repeatedly ignore our calls and requests for our deposit to be returned.

Service was quick and attentive, and we did not feel rushed and were able to enjoy a pleasant time chatting. Drinks: the black walnut Manhattan, Fig jam old fashioned, wine , beer and port. Drinks were all excellent, i tasted the Manhattan and enjoyed it over the Fig Jam. For apps: Clams oreganato (the couple with us enjoyed this), flat bread (was much more like pizza than flat bread, but still tasty, per my husband), and on the special New England Clam Chowder which was very good, not too thick and decent and fresh clams in it. Entrees: Shrimp Risotto scampi, very flavorful Risotto cooked perfectly. Two of us ordered the Cajun Mahi Mahi, over spinach with mashed, and 2 shrimp. the Cajun sauce was tasty with the perfect amount of heat, shrimp and mahi-mahi fresh and cooked perfectly. Rigatoni Bolognese which my husband enjoyed and said it was almost as good as my Italian mother's (like a good son-in-law) lol Dessert: Crème Brûlée - Brûlée was perfect, the crème was a little too thick for me. I ate it and enjoyed it, but not the best I've had. My husband ordered the key Lime Pie happy that it did not include nuts in the crust as some do, he thought it was good. Overall we had an enjoyable albeit pricy meal with good service. I would come back if other's wanted to go but it would not be my go to place.

He immediately started barking at us about how we had made a reservation for four adults and one child, and that we would have to pay full price for the fourth adult which was $80 who did not show up. When we were seated, I had already apologized to the server that the fourth person could not make it, and the server -- who had otherwise been wonderful -- politely told us it was fine. I really thought this won't be a big deal like other establishments that are even more high end. I later learned that the individual's name was Tom. Describing his behavior as merely rude would be an understatement; his conduct was obnoxious, unprofessional, and unnecessarily aggressive. First, being charged the full $80 price for a guest who did not attend was extremely shocking and disappointing. More concerning, however, was the manner in which Tom approached and addressed us. In all my years of dining out, I have never experienced such poor service or such an inappropriate attitude from restaurant staff. Although I was eventually provided with containers to pack some food to take home, the entire experience left me feeling deeply insulted and completely ruined what was meant to be a special Mother's Day dinner. This Tom, who I was told aa a manger lacks a professionalism to be a qualified one. He needs a major attitude change.

The food is good and they offer seasonal specials which are decent and affordable. We usually dine here 3-4 times monthly so think we are pretty good judges of Maggie's. My only callout here is the inconsistency in service. Sometimes amazing and other times unpredicable. Our average bill is around $50ish plus tip, for 2 people. The management needs to step up their game when training the servers, set them up for success. Our most recent visit we arrived right at opening (12 PM) for lunch. We were the only 2 seated at that time. Our table was in the back and right next to us were 3 employees who were rolling silverware in napkins. We heard their entire conversation about their weekend long before we were even greeted. They need some direction on professionalism and that comes directly from their leadership.
