I imagine all these great reviews are from folks that enjoy the cocktail menu and the night life. For me, 2 stars is being generous. We ask if they have outdoor seating and they tell us they do, then they proceed to seat us in an area with windows and ceiling! And right next to a large and very loud Bridal shower (that would have been nice to know, we would have asked to be seated as far away as humanly possible.) Then we sit for 30 solid minutes without a peep from ANYONE. Then suddenly a confused looking young lady steps up and informs us "no one told her we were here." Guess that's OUR problem? Placed a drink order and another 20 minutes passes when I am informed it is no longer on tap. Drinks finally arrive, the "Craftsman IPA" is flat and "off" tasting. White wine was warm as if it was sitting in the sun. Food was not much better sadly. The Calamari was flavorless and tough - apparently someone forgot the Asian drizzle that was supposed to go on it. It was also that "fake" calamari where every piece is exactly the same size and shape. The "stuffed" meatballs were stuffed - with air! Literally nothing but a hole in the middle. The artichoke and crab dip had a strong fishy taste, it was so bad I feared it was tainted. To their credit they took it off the bill, eventually. And from the moment our drinks arrived earlier,, our server never once checked back on us for another drink, do we need anything, how is everything etc. Hey Craftsman - do better! This north jersey spot is always on my list for recommendations for either a fun girls night or casual buy chic dining experience. The staff and ambiance are always great and very friendly! We decided to try this spot bc there was mention of an outdoor patio, which is what we wanted on a sunny day. We asked to sit in said patio but were seated in a covered area. It appears there was a wedding happening in the outdoor space, sooo why not tell us that?? Once we sat we noticed the table was wobbling. Overall this place is a solid 3.5. When you pull in it's valet parking. The place is nice ambiance inside. The service was a tad slow the day we went. We order truffle fries which were good. For entrees we ordered rigatoni vodka and cauliflower steak. I enjoy the rigatoni vodka it was saucy, creamy and flavorful. I didn't know what to expect from cauliflower steak but it was good option for vegetarian. For dessert we got the chocolate molten cake and definitely recommend getting it. Pictured include the Hermosa and Pineapple Express. Not pictured, but equally delicious is the espresso martini. The food offered is typical and average bar food. The place is so new and nicely decorated inside. The food was okay. We had the grilled octopus appetizer. There was a very small amount of octopus in it although it was tastey. The brussel sprouts were delicious. The beet, feta, and candied walnut salad was goid, but oddly enough there wasn't a walnut in it. It did have some finely ground walnut in the salad, but not much. Went to The Craftsman for happy hour on a Tuesday. It looks like a nice spot, modern but lots of wood. Happy hour menu is available from 4pm-7pm in the bar area. We were seated at one of the booths in the bar pretty quickly, but nobody came to our table for nearly 20 minutes. Our waitress apologized for the wait, and took our order. They don't actually have a weekly cocktail special as listed on the happy hour menu, so I got a mojito and my wife got the frosé. The mojito was surprisingly solid, sweet, minty, and refreshing. The frose was very sweet and tasted like a slurpee. For food, we got the short rib flatbread, buffalo wings, fried chicken cracklins, fried calamari, bang bang shrimp, and chicken wontons. Short rib on the flatbread was tender, but there wasn't much of it on there. Five wings for $12 happy hour ain't a great deal for salty wings. Two stars perfectly described the experience. We had come at the perfect time after Spain had won the World Cup. The restaurant was empty and we were seated quickly. I felt like I was begging for service the entire time and was rarely checked up on. I ordered the NY strip steak but weather I wanted it rare, medium or well done was a mystery because she didn't ask. It was chewy and not worth $50 dollars. I decided to try the cold pressed juices but I'm not a big fan of ginger. The server told me "it's not a lot of ginger at all", I was deceived, and the first sip I had my throat burning like I drank a bloody marry and not a good one. The tacos were good and the fries as well. We ordered some waters to start and one came with what looked like old food or something that wasn't water. She didn't seem to care and went to change it but when she came back the cup had dirty water and pieces of debris in it still. We had ordered a burger to go for our family member and they brought it out in the middle of our meal on a plate. We thought it wasn't our food and the server handed it to a random table instead of asking the kitchen if it was a mistake. All of this only to have the server return and tell us that we "declined the food" as if it didn't come out incorrectly to begin with. we were a little bit stretched for time and this delayed us another 20 minutes as they had to remake the order once they realize their error but definitely felt like we were being blamed for our order being incorrectly fulfilled. All to respect if we order something to go it should be in a to go box and bag. We reserved this place for my dads bday and reservation was held with no problems. Upon arriving, it is valet only for parking so BRING CASH for tip! The hostess did sit us at a smaller wobbly table but when I asked if we could move she was accommodating. The waitress was amazing and super attentive to our needs. The menu had lots of good appetizers, burgers, salad and entrees. We started with the delicious calamari plate. Unlike other places, this dish wasn't plain, they had some cucumber and greens with it too. I got the crabby patty for entree. It was a good burger with moist soft crab cake patty. The short rib skillet was also an excellent dish. Really well flavor steak, eggs were nicely cooked. Chicken was alright, pretty basic fried chicken with a garlic-lime aioli sauce. The shishito peppers were surprisingly really good! We thought it was going to be TOO hot, but that wasn't the case at all and we ended up liking that much more than the chicken! We all ended up ordering a signature burger, skirt steak, and the beef short ribs. I got the short ribs, which were just meh.. a good amount of short ribs that did fall apart just right. This was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Food was warm at best- so this could've probably been a better dish if it was actually hot when served. Sauce on the short ribs was pretty basic and bland, which I guess was fine for a place like this. TBH, I was iffy about ordering any kind of meat dish from a place that looked like your typical in-town bar scene. We also ordered sweet potato fries to share, which were probably my favorite dish, along with the pepper appetizer. Yesterday I attended a fabulous event at this wonderful establishment and I can't wait to come back! It was a drag brunch in honor of Mother's Day. The restaurant and the entertainment were both awesome. I will review the event separately. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. The valet service was great. But the food was the best part. For the event it was served buffet style and the offerings were a wonderful brunch selection. I ordered the lamb chops off of the appetizer menu for my dinner and received 2 for $28.00 best thing about the dish was the hummus like spread that the tiny lamb chops sat upon. They were ok not luscious as I expected them to be for that price. Hubby had the skirt steak $38.00, that he was not impressed with... not getting the hype over this place since I see it all over my social media. I hate to give bad reviews but I just can't say anything good. It was way too expensive, not enough food, just not enough... wouldn't go back or recommend. They had a great taste and a great presentation. As far as the food goes, we really enjoyed our meal. We started with the short rib tacos which were very flavorful and very tender. Came on a Friday for dinner and the place was bumping. There is a bar area with some tables/ booths, but mostly standing room. Place was already pretty crowded at 7:30pm. We had dinner in the dining area which is a separate room towards the right. It was decorated beautifully and was far enough away that it was quiet and we were able to have conversations at the table. They do this whole thing for birthdays with a sign, sparklers and a bubble machine which was fun. For food, the Buffalo cauliflower appetizer was delicious! I liked how the sauce came on the side so the cauliflower didn't get soggy. I also tried the rock shrimp lettuce wraps but for the price the portion was very small. I had the seamstress cocktail, and although it looked beautiful and tasted delicious, there was almost no alcohol in it. By the time we finished dinner, the DJ had come on and it was literally a party in the bar area. First time finally trying The Craftsman and I can't say I will be going out of my way to return here. Upon arriving it is valet only which I am not a fan of people driving and parking my car. But it seems more and more restaurants are starting to be valet only and eliminated self parking. Upon arriving immediately the decor and ambiance are top notch and I truly appreciated the entire building and its layout. We were seated on the bar side at a high top that although the seats are comfortable the table ideally is not designed for eating as it is much too small. Our server started out great and seemed to disappear after our orders were taken. We were given drinks and water almost instantly. I ordered the tequila mockingbird which was delicious and my boyfriend an ipa from their beer list. We started off with the stuffed meatballs and Italian burrata salad. The meatballs were delicious just could have come with more garlic crostinis and a spoon to serve them with. The Italian burrata I should have ordered as an entree. It was perfectly creamy and delicious blend of flavors. I ordered the rigatoni al a vodka with grilled shrimp. It arrived with grilled chicken. No issue as there was no price difference between which protein. However the person who delivered our food was not our server and I could not find our server for at least 20 minutes, by that point I decided I'll just eat this because I am starving. The vodka sauce was lighter than what I was expecting and definitely needed some additional cheese and salt or pepper. My boyfriend ordered the Cajun Alfredo. Definitely was lacking on the Alfredo sauce but the Cajun seasoning packed a decent punch. He ordered it with grilled chicken and said it was good but definitely need more pepper. The food was good but I preferred our appetizers to the main meal for sure. Sadly I would've loved to enjoy a few more cocktails off their menu but ordering anything with our server was near impossible because we could not locate him even when asking those clearing our table. We ate a majority of our meal without being checked on, asked if our food was good, and if we needed additional drinks (which we did, including additional water). When our server came back into the dining area it's almost as he made sure to avoid any eye contact with us when checking on his other tables. Not sure what was the issue as it was not very busy and our server seemed to disappear. Even having our dirty plates cleared seemed to go unnoticed. So, after ages of not seeing one of my best girlfriend, we decided to hit up Craftsman Restaurant. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but I was open. First off, the entrance? Pretty nice (don't know if it was because it was valentines week) but it was Instagram. We decided to skip the usual table scene and grabbed a high-top in the bar area. It was super chill, just right for lots of catching up. The food was good, tasty, well put together, and it came out looking great too. And the drinks didn't let us down either. Sunday Brunch was quite tasty. We ordered mimosas, the coconut French toast, although I couldn't taste much coconut, and the big American breakfast. Our server was friendly and checked on us during our meal. It gets loud, since it's a popular spot, so you have to almost yell across the table to hear each other sometimes.
