We recently completed our house expansion and renovation project with Baron and are so pleased with our new home! Our project included adding square footage, as well as gutting the majority of the interior of the home. Our project manager, Leeran, was there with us every step of the way. He provided guidance and recommendations for the endless decisions we needed to make along the way. His responsiveness was also key in moving things along quickly. The crew finished our project on time (from breaking ground to moving in ~6mos when we were quoted 5-8mos), which I feel like is unheard of in major construction projects. My project was a comprehensive home remodel. We've been in the home for about 6 weeks and loving our experience. Hired Baron for 600 sq foot second story addition and remodel. The house looks great, the subcontractors did an acceptable job for the most part. So many reasons for 1 star however, cannot recommend you seek Baron unless you are forced. - Project was delayed due to COVID, but took 6 months longer than planned, and 4 months longer than promised. We ended up spending an extra 20k in rent during the pandemic - Project management was a circus, one PM quit (citing not being paid), and after a delay and turmoil (2 more PM's were assigned, given the walk through, and then quit or were reassigned?), we were finally told our PM would be Elvia (administrator), who never came to site - On multiple occasions the price listed for change orders was 200% that which sub-contractor was charging, and well over market ($75 / sq. ft for basic hand poured mixed concrete sidewalk). And had to be negotiated down. - Contractor initially promised that our top line price included restoring elements that were demolished as a part of remodel (sidewalk which needed demo to pour foundation, or hallway cabinet that was demolished as a part of work) however, after original PM quit, these elements were added as change orders (for prices that were way above market). - Sub-Contractor made major mistakes, shower plumbing was installed backwards in 2 bathrooms (hot and cold reversed), Drain was put in wrong place in a bathroom wall and forced us to pay for a redesign after failed inspection, major elements were held in by caulking alone (no nails!) which decayed within weeks and fell apart - Warranty of work requires constant email, phone calls. We have not had functioning A/C since February (after we moved in and realized it wasn't working), and have had to call every week for updates. So far, the sub contractor has only been out once, got it working for a few hours, and it failed almost immediately after he was gone. At this point, they aren't returning phone calls or email. - Site was a horrible mess during most of the construction, and we had to push to get any site cleanup done. Afterwards, non "contracted" areas were destroyed, left rusty nails and equipment throughout yard, very little pride in the work. Some of the subcontractors cleaned up, and felt bad about others not doing the same, however none of them wanted to take responsibility for those who made the larger mess. I wish I could tell you where to go instead, as there are few reasonably priced quality general contractors in the Bay Area as it is... and Baron is one of the largest. But I know of none that will even do the job. Baron is 3 degrees of separation from actually doing the work. Mike is actually a sub on a larger license, who subs out to unlicensed general contractors who in turn sub out to other contractors, many of which I spoke with from our project have ceased doing business with Baron due to not being paid, or getting the run around. I was told that Mike had personal issues which left him unreachable for most of our construction, and was used as an excuse for lack of professional management on our project, but there needs to be backups. read more

We trusted Baron once before with a garage remodel, and were thrilled with the results, so this time we decided to do a bigger project: master bedroom/bath remodel. Eli Ben was our consultant on this project, also. The main thing I wanted to do was completely gut and redo the bathroom. The house came with a fairly typical "fiberglass pan with wall tile" shower that I never particularly liked. The pictures tell the whole story about what I ended up with, and I absolutely love it. I wanted to make the shower wider, but the toilet could not be moved, so Eli helped us figure out the measurements to take the most advantage of the limited space. A sliding pocket door to replace the swing door would maximize the useful area. The wall structure made it necessary to actually shift the doorway over about 8". All of this involves gutting the bathroom down to the house frame. This bathroom is on the second floor, and as this old house is continuously shifting, it's vital that the shower not leak. The bottom of the shower was hot mopped (hot tar) instead of using the more conventional PVC pan. Over time, a pan can flex and crack. Hot mopped floors will not leak, even if the house frame shifts beneath it. Baron brought in a master tiler, EJ, to tile the shower, and his work is satisfyingly precise and symmetrical. Everything is fitted perfectly, and custom cut/shaped as needed. The plumber, Derrick, is equally talented, and paid a lot of attention to little details to make the setup work best. The tile design in the shower makes it crucial that the shower fixture is perfectly centered in the design, and that was accomplished with the cooperation and expertise of everyone involved. The sink was custom fabricated out of a big slab of engineered quartz. It looks like white marble, but is much less expensive, more durable, and lower maintenance than real marble. Eli and I worked with the fabricator to design a square sink, and the fabricator (also a gifted artist) put the pieces together in a way that makes the gray veins in the quartz line up in an aesthetically pleasing manner. As for the bedroom itself, we had the popcorn ceiling removed. That required asbestos abatement, which Baron handled with complete competence (they are licensed in asbestos abatement). We wanted a "rigid core vinyl" floor (the new hotness in laminate flooring) to replace the carpet. It was discovered that the floor was not flat, and you can't install a laminate floor on an irregular surface. The entire floor had to be torn up and sistered to make it level. This was done, although I was warned that the house would likely continue to shift and settle over time. There's no way to prevent this. Ah well, can't be helped. But we love the new laminate floor. It looks just like real wood, but is fully waterproof and highly scratch resistant. I could go on a lot longer about the details of this job. But suffice to say that we are 100% satisfied with the work and will be returning to Baron in the future for any other remodeling projects we have. read more

I'm very unhappy with my experience with Baron. We worked on a 1000 sq ft remodel that took over a year when it was originally quoted for 3-6 months. Months after, I'm still trying to clean up the mess they left me with and the damages they made to my house. It was a headache and complete stress working with them. They are the nightmare remodel that I hear others talk about. Our project managers did not remembered anything that was discussed and there was little to no follow through. They would say they were going to do something, or that this is how it would look, but then when it's done it's completely different and not what was discussed. Every meeting with the project managers ended up being pointless. I had to escalate many issues to the main office, and the owner, Mike, in order to get some type of acknowledgement, explanation or answer. By the end of a year working with them, I really only expected the bare minimum and they still could not deliver that. HVAC was installed incorrectly, but we had to have an argument over whether it was installed according to manual or not. This is not something a customer should have to call out and have to argue about. An exterior hole in my wall was not properly repaired and we spent a few weeks arguing over the proper repair solution to the point where the city inspector had to make visits to ensure it was properly repaired. They caused many delays like this throughout the project. They did not provide any design help. They provided little to no suggestions on how to implement anything - railing, paver designs, etc. They just waited for me to do my own research, pick and provide everything and at some points I had to talk to the crew myself and check-in with them on the execution. I was basically the project manager at that point. When, during the sales process, they said they would be able to do all of these things for me. I would not trust them with their architects either. We had plans drawn up, measurements were off, which lead to subsequent issues with cabinets that were ordered. They also told us the wrong measurement for a window (not returnable). And in discussions, the project managers point fingers and blame others. At one point the onsite crew called to ask us how to install our cabinets. It was definitely my nightmare experience. Every time they came to the house, some new damage or issue was made (e.g. install a light and then make a hole in the wall from the ladder). They used our front patio and lawn as a garbage bin - my trees and plants even have dried cement covering their base because they just dumped the cement out on the dirt. For months I've been finding nails all over our front and backyards and other debris. This is not safe for children. Our patio furniture was used as step stools, ladders and work benches. Leftover paint was just left outside. Barely any cleanup was done inside and outside the house, nor did they properly protect the flooring, countertops, etc inside. Even my stove top counter top was cut on site and the fine powder is now all over the interior of the cabinets and railings causing friction with drawers closing. Of course all of the work depends on the project manager assigned and the construction crew assigned. Unfortunately, you don't get to pick who works with you and they do not implement a standard or quality bar for who is hired. There's no point to pay a premium for construction if you don't get premium service or quality. I would not trust them for any work. And I would not trust them to be knowledgeable about or be able to handle premium materials. The project managers I had were good at one thing though, collecting checks. They were always extremely prompt, gave reminders and had great follow through when it came to collecting payment. Lastly, because the work is subcontracted, the markup on items in change orders is enormous. For example installing an outlet which might be normally $100 by an electrician became $700. Adding new subfloor which others paid $6k (at the same time period and for the same sq footage) ended up being $16k for us. etc. When we brought the concern about the markups to the project manager, he said "we all have to make a living". Zero empathy. We also were brought into drama with sub-sub-contractors telling us they were not getting paid. We told them we made payments to Baron so they need to work it out with Baron. Don't go with Baron unless if your project is REALLY small and simple and/or you're ready to pay the price (money, time, stress, drama). Working with Baron brought me to my limit and there were many times where they were not understanding, not listening and seemingly unwilling to work with us that we had to walk away from a conversation to get fresh air. And now we're working with someone else to fix all of the issues - further delaying our project. Don't put yourself in that situation. Learn from my huge mistake of hiring them. read more

As are many homes in Sunnyvale, our home was built in the 1950s and needed some major work. What started as the wish to add central heat turned into a entire home remodel with the help of Baron. We bid out several companies for plans, and Ron (from Baron) was personable, kind & asked great leading questions. He returned with three options (Good / Better / Best) and provided the reasoning behind them all. He was knowledgeable of the requirements of our city, plus had great suggestions on how to better our ideas. In the end, we ended up adding 400 square feet, plus brought the entire home down to the studs. We updated everything - from the roof, to plumbing, to electrical, to the stucco around the house. The end product is absolutely gorgeous, and we are thrilled with the work that was done. The project completed on time - and although over budget, it was due to unforeseen circumstances (lead / asbestos) and beautiful add ons like our newly vaulted great room ceiling and front of the house upgrade. The on time portion was essential though - as with SIP starting due to COVID-19, we were able to return to our home from the small apartment we were staying in. Ron kept the team on schedule and pushed hard to ensure we could come back ASAP. I highly recommend Baron - especially Ron as the PM on the job. Between his ability to keep the project on schedule, and Courtney's amazing eye for interior design - we are proud to have our kitchen & master bath featured on Baron's website. I cannot be an easy home owner to work with - as PM myself with a sales background and my husband as an electrician, but Ron & team handled us well and our home is all the better for it. We had Barron do a complicated addition and remodel that added a bathroom and expanded the footprint of the house. Not the cheapest, but very professional, flexible, and communicative throughout the project. Friends of ours with similar or even smaller projects complain about their contractors taking much longer than promised and being ghosted for days by their project managers. That was not the case with Barron. The project was done on time and within the quoted budget, despite several unexpected complications along the way, including the age of the house and the fact that the crew had to work around us so that we could stay in the house for most of the project. We did run into a few problems along the way, but our project manager Leeran was very responsive and got things fixed or re-done quickly. I can't say enough how pleasantly surprised we were. We just got our whole house remodeled basically just few walls left and everything else was remodeled. We were referred to them by a friend. Leeran came to our house and immediately made a connection. He was listening to all we wanted and showed genuine interest in getting us as close to as possible to our Dream. Our process was surprisingly without any major hitches, mostly because their team works as a well oiled machine. From Framer(Salvador), Plumber (George), installers(Israel), Electrician (Alfonso) to cleaners all did a Fantastic job. They all came across as professional and trustworthy people Leeran was extremely efficient project manager. Our Project finished a month before scheduled date. Paul his Co-manager joined the project midway, very service oriented and quickly took over a lot of key aspects. Our City inspector commented the "quality of work and in the timeline Baron construction finished was commendable". Although we had our run ins with Leeran, but all in good faith. Between him and Paul we resolved it to a good solution. This is he second month of living in the house and of course it has some issues that need fixing, but they are as eager as they were earlier to fix them and deliver an exceptional home. We never spoke with Amos Baron except during signing the contract. To us it didn't matter because we were taken good care of by our team. read more

I had a great experience working with Leeran and the Baron constructions. Our project was based in Sunnyvale while we were living in San Francisco with a less than two year old toddler, in the middle of the pandemic. We were redoing 2/3rd of our home which entailed large structural changes. We knew this wasn't going to be easy and we wanted to go with the best in the area. For day 1, Leeran and the firm were punctual, outright honest and very collaborative making them one of the most dependable contractors I've ever worked with. In the early days, I remember brainstorming layouts with Leeran late into the night over zoom. He was always very accommodating, open to creative ideas and sharing this experience to keep the project feasible. When it came to quotes, while Baron was a bit on the higher side, I knew I was going to get what I'm paying for. So we decided to go with them. The project had a very tight deadline as our lease in SF was ending in March and we were starting this project in early October. Leeran stayed on top of it throughout. Even when there were hiccups like when we found out our ducts needed to be replaced and one of our structural beam was infected with termites, Leeran added more workforce instead of pushing out the finish date. Leeran has a fabulous team of people he works with. From the architect to the designer, everyone was such a pleasure to work with. From finalizing permits to ordering finished materials, everything was so systematic and well planned that I'm afraid I'm spoiled for life. The final product of their work was above and beyond my expectations. When I shared the photos with my friends and family, I had to convince them that they are not photoshopped. I hired Baron construction to turn my carport into a full garage. I initially had a good impression and after seeing their quote agrees to proceed. They were fairly pushy - inviting themselves into my living room and at my dining table and insisting on signing the contract right away. I had some reservations but they seemed professional and the quote was reasonable to I decided to move forward. This is when the issues started; they drew up some initial plans but weren't closely paying attention during the walkthrough and neglected to account for the fact that the carport also functions per the county as a fire escape. This caused multiple issues and forced them to revise the plans, resubmit to county etc. 8 months later my garage isn't done, they promised several revisions I never saw, and eventually agreed to cancel the contract and refund my deposit. The refund has yet to come 6 weeks later. They have now gone dark on me and I am about to file a complaint with the BBB to hold them accountable to their bs sales tactics and lack of follow through. read more

Leeran came and not only beat all 6 quotes but also showed me each individual step in the process and how it would be done. We asked so many questions, and each one was answered fully and patiently. Outstanding experience with this company and my contact with them, Eli Ben. We needed some dry rot repaired on the house exterior, per our HOA, and decided we could find other stuff for them to do while they were here. Our garage was a ghetto mess of bared joists and graffiti (thanks to prior tenants of the home). We had it completely finished with new drywall, paint, baseboard, and a new epoxy floor. Recessed lighting was installed and new outlets placed. It looks amazing and we love it. We had the same kind of recessed lights put in our kitchen. Our townhouse is almost 50 years old, so there was asbestos to deal with. Baron is certified in asbestos abatement and they created a positive pressure environment for the kitchen and garage when removing that material. All workers wore appropriate respirators and protective clothes. The dry rot on the front of the house was not extensive, but did require some replacement of wood and treatment for termites. The work was done to excellent quality (it was cosmetic so did not require any permit or approval from the HOA). There were minor problems that are unavoidable in remodeling work, and all were handled promptly and with exceptional care and attention to my convenience and directions. This company and its employees are competent, friendly, attentive and very skilled at their trades. The necessary permit from the city was handled, and an incremented payment schedule was provided. All changes during the project were itemized and approved by me prior to work. We paid piecemeal as various stages of the work were completed. No problems with this. I had the same experience as other yelpers. And I did not hire this company for my project at the end. Here's why: The whole appointment booking experience was bad. Cheryl is really not the best at communicating. I have a window of 3-hours for all my appointments that day, which I need to keep strictly. I expressed that to Cheryl and she said they always come on time. The day before our meeting Cheryl called to say that the time we agreed on was 1) an "arrival window", not when they will show up and 2) was insufficient for them to provide an accurate estimate. So we agreed that I will meet the project manager 15 minutes earlier to allow more time. And guess what? He arrived late, only took half of the time Cheryl said he needed. The project manager arrived late, and he did not call ahead like Cheryl said he would. He was more interested in "all the other things we can do", rather than my actual project. He gave me an absurd quote for my project, 3 times more than what other contractors provided. Then he told me that my project can cost a lot less if I use the company to remodel my whole kitchen. I do not need a kitchen remodel! I ended up hiring another licensed contractor who provided me reasonable price. read more

I interviewed Mike Baron, owner of Baron Construction & Remodeling Co, to remodel my ranch style home to an up to date open concept look. I knew within 10 minutes that this was going to be a good working relationship and I was going to hire his company for this project. The first thing that impressed me was I had a long list of things I wanted done and he glanced at it, put it aside and just listened to my ideas. We did a walk through the house and the first thing he noticed was the foundation in the TV room was sloping and needed to be replaced. This was not on my list but he recommended this be my first priority and I'm glad I agreed. The moldy musty smell that was plaguing me disappeared and the floor is even. I was fortunate to have Mike work with me on the whole project. As a client I appreciated the consistency and confidence working with one person and helping with the design and selection of materials. This was very important to me and high on my list. I also appreciated working with the same onsite people when possible. The scope of the project entailed new wood floors, crown molding and baseboards throughout the house. A beautiful custom fitted cabinet under a wall mounted TV with matching floating shelves in the front room. The kitchen entryway was enlarged to give it the open concept look I wanted. The kitchen was enhanced with a quartz countertop, sink, beautiful backsplash, shaker cabinets/drawers and hardware. Replacing the old brick with natural stone and a streamline mantle changed the existing fireplace. The master shower was gutted and replaced with a decorative mosaic tile strip, large complimentary tiles for the shower walls and bathroom floor, frameless glass shower doors and an infinity drain. The mosaic tile was also used as the backsplash behind the bathroom sinks and an area behind the toilet. The interior walls were freshly painted with an accent wall in the living room and TV room. The exterior of the house took on a whole new look with a change of color. So the questions are: Would I hire Baron Construction & Remodeling Co again; would I recommend this company to others; Am I happy with the results? Answer: Absolutely. read more

I had a terrible experience with Baron Construction and falsified representations regarding a water leak in a bathroom remodel which should be covered under warranty. A tile subcontractor used by Baron said there was no leak in a letter from Baron Construction. They used the same tile person who said there was no leak again post demo of the shower... We know there is a leak because of video evidence we did checking their work... When things go wrong and how's its handled says a lot about a company... I would not recommend Baron Construction. read more

In 2017/2018, Mike Baron & his Team professionally transformed our upstairs living space into a wonderful, modern Master suite. Baron Construction designed and built a custom double sink vanity, installed heated flooring, ensured proper weight bearing sub-floor for stand alone tub, installed water saving Toto toilet bidet, built large glass wall shower with bench, and opened up area for large walk-in closet. Mike Baron listens respectfully to his clients, does timeless, beautiful design, uses high quality materials and works hard to make sure his clients are happy with their project. Finding a contractor that does quality work and is reliable is rare. My husband and I decided to remodel 90% of my childhood home and after meeting with six contractors, it was clear from the beginning that we wanted to work with Leeran. He was always prompt to our meetings/calls, explained things in an easily digestible manner, and was honest. This project was insanely important to my family as we had a lot of memories in the old home and the Baron crew created a new, modern home for us to make new memories in with our toddler. Leeran was one of the big reasons why our project got done on time (especially impressive during COVID) as he was extremely responsive. Anytime we had a question or needed his advice during the project, he was there to help answer questions, explain the timeline, help facilitate and project manage timelines with the crew/vendors, etc. We also worked with Noya, one of their interior designers, and she was so sweet and helpful in designing our home. She attended multiple meetings with us to understand our design aesthetic, shop with us for finishes (kitchen, tile, countertop), etc. I have been recommending Baron the entire time we've been working with them. Their work is top notch and having a PM dedicated to your project is a game changer. My husband and I are working parents with a toddler, so it was less stressful and not as overwhelming having Leeran help steer the project for us. read more

These guys were pushy, rigid, and underwhelming. It brings me down to write bad reviews about local businesses, so I hope they'll take this to heart and learn to actually respond to their customers, instead of just trying to churn them through their business machine. The long story: First of all, the front desk/sales person who called me was puuuushy about making an appointment for an on-site consultation with a project manager. I guess if you want someone who responds fast, that's great, but I had gotten responses from other contractors saying "we don't do what you want" and so I really wanted a clear answer from this company about whether my project was in their scope. I asked directly--several times--whether this company was willing to work with a prefab kit, and she just said, "I can tell you, we don't work like that, our project manager will consult with you to find the best solution..." Not an answer, and did not leave me feeling confident about working with these guys. I would really have liked to talk to a contractor, but again, she just said that's not how they work. Fast forward to the project manager coming to my house. I said upfront that I wanted to keep my square-footage costs below $200, and he basically said what I'm asking for is impossible, that their company is building at $600 per square foot, and, by the way, modular isn't necessarily cheaper. I just did a weekend workshop about accessory dwelling units with a whole slew of industry professionals giving us up-to-date, local, per square foot cost range, which is about $150-$300. So... yeah, I'm sure there's a large luxury market in the Bay Area, but I so clearly didn't want that, why did they have to waste my time with their "meet the project manager" protocol? I felt I was not listened to, not treated respectfully, that I was being rather willfully pushed through their very rigid system (despite the fact that "they'll work with you to find the best solution!"). read more

I worked with Or as our primary manager throughout our project and Astar as the project manager. Our project involved converting an existing bedroom to a bathroom and hallway leading to an addition of approximately 240 square feet for a master bedroom. Additionally, we had them demolish a lot of the old concrete in our backyard and redo it with a new yard and small deck. Construction started in November and we totally wrapped up with the finishing touches the following June. I've heard all of the horror stories of working with contractors and am happy to say that Or, Astar, and their teams reflected none of them. They were professional, courteous, communicative, and thoughtful throughout. We were able to live comfortably in our home throughout the entirety of the project (which also let us witness some really impressive craftsmanship -- from the framing to matching our roof for the addition, matching our hardwood floors, the final detailing, etc. They were also reasonably priced and didn't levy any surprises on us from the original estimate we signed. Any additions / changes to cost were clearly communicated with explanations and options. I would highly recommend working with Baron Construction & Remodeling (and Or and Astar in particular) for anyone looking for home remodels and additions. Craftsmanship at Baron Construction is world class! We had the pleasure of working with project manager Ron who worked with us from project definition all the way till the everything was fully completed including the professional power wash to remove any type of debris on the drive way. Ron was with us every step of the way throughout the project and was always super responsive via phone/email/txt. In addition, Ron always came over to check-in with us to ensure we're happy with the progress and accommodated to our busy schedule by coming in later in the evenings after we're done with the kids' dinner. We contacted Baron in Dec 2017 when we purchased our home and wanted them to update 3 of the bathrooms. After a walk through of the existing bathrooms, measurements were taken and we received a formal detailed quote. The 2nd best aspect (the best being their quality of work) of working with Baron is how they never nickle and dimed us - what we paid for the project was exactly what they quoted at the start + fair adjustments due to us adding wet-walls in 2 of the bathrooms (which we didn't want initially when we started the project). The only criticism we had with Baron is the length of time it took the finish the bathrooms. We were originally told it'd take 3-4 months and it ended up taking 6 months. Part of that is our fault because we had guests over and had to stop construction for a couple of weeks which caused downstream delays. The wait was well worth it because the masterful work of Sergio (who does tiles) was simply amazing. The tl;dr: scope of work was completed within a reasonable time frame for a fair price, although some hand-wringing/holding required. Worked primarily with Eli at the beginning and then towards the latter half, with Obi as well. Both were polite and courteous, and in terms of response time were relatively prompt. Never had an issue getting a hold of them and never felt as if they were trying to rip me off. We were looking to get parts of our foundation replaced. The initial quote was a bit higher than we were expecting, but if you know the market and you have a good sense of what you want/need, you can negotiate. Getting the permits and inspections are all done by Baron so that's a plus (you obv still pay the flat rate for it) and they provide you with all the records/proof. Walk-thrus are thorough and they seem to have a good understanding of building/construction concepts so that's another plus. They did also fix some smaller issues that weren't necessarily part of the original scope, but were either affected by the work or would help supplement the work at no additional cost. As one other reviewer stated, attention to details do need improvement as we had to monitor certain areas and make sure that it was done correctly. Things like getting our front door realigned due to the work or a small area of the concrete connecting to our foundation that had a dip which needed re-leveling. Also scheduling was ~%80 accurate; I was never able to confidently know exactly when people would show up or what was going to be done. For example, I wasn't told the exact date or time the work would start; the workers just showed up and started work bright and early one Monday morning. It's not as if I wasn't given the general scope, but whenever my wife asked me "when are they going to finish X" or "are they going to take care of Y" I couldn't provide an immediate answer. I'm fortunate enough that my company's work from home policy is generous, otherwise things might've been more difficult. There was also a pause for a week in work due to the foreman having a family emergency, and Baron did not have a backup so we just had to wait the week out. For future jobs I'd advise maybe having at least some sort of contingency for that. They also didn't provide any coverings for the items in our garage so everything ended up getting dusty and we had to hire a separate cleaning company to clean for us (Baron did deduct the cost from the final payment), so that's something else for them to keep in mind. Overall, the issues that I had aren't exactly specific to Baron - I've worked with other contractors in the past and it just seems to be a general issue in the industry. I am satisfied with the work and would most likely use them again now that I understand what to expect, but if the issues I detailed bother you then you may need to pay more to get the experience you desire. Bottom line is you can be reassured that if you need work done, Baron will get it done, although you're going to have to work too. read more

We recently completed a remodel/update of our 1950's home. We hired Baron in Jan 2021 to do our job with the idea that the project would be completed around July 2021. I am happy to report that as of Sept 2022, I can say our job is truly "officially" done and we are happy with the final outcome. While there were numerous delays, those delays were due in part to supply chain delays, city compliance/permit issues, and a few changes we decided to make. Our project manager was Leeran, and I can say that he is very good at project management. Also, my husband stayed very actively involved with Leeran in the entire remodel process, which I believe, ultimately contributed to the success of our project. While we didn't anticipate having to be so actively involved, I quickly figured out it was necessary. When things were installed incorrectly, or the job site was left messy and we contacted Leeran about it, he was always responsive to us and got things worked out. He also took the time to have regular meetings with us to make decisions so that we could maintain the timeline as best as possible and pivot construction tasks when there was a delay with one aspect of the project so that items could keep getting finished. This allowed for us to keep with the timeline as much as possible. He is definitely an asset to the company. I feel he also has a good management style with clients; he was not always able to say "yes" to the requests we had, but he really worked hard to balance out his "no" responses with alternative perks to help prevent you from feeling screwed over. So overall, I believe the project management (Leeran) and his willingness to work closely with my husband was valuable. My final thoughts are . . . did the project go entirely as I expected when I signed my contract with Baron . . .no. There were many bumps in the road, but I can also attribute that to my lack of understanding of all that goes into a whole-house remodel process. I learned that takes a lot of patience, and extreme amount of effort, and a whole lot of money. And overall, Leeran is a big part of why I was able to make it thru this process. I hope Baron's owner knows how valuable he is to the success of the company. Also props to the subs like Carlos and Abraham, Salvador, and Sal for their expertise in their trade. Additionally, I think it is important to note that, the licensed contractor (owner Mike) is typically not involved in the day to day on site activities. We did talk to him once during our process when we hit a pretty big snag in the project. He offered advice via a FaceTime call. That was a bit of a surprise to us and I feel it is important for me to mention my review as I was unaware when signing the contract and I would want future clients to be aware. And one last items I learned was that they hire out subcontractors to complete their work (overseen by the project managers, and typically regular subs that they know/trust). But I remember thinking that when our PM said they have their own "crew", I assumed it was Baron staff, but learned it was actually subcontractors. She seem to enjoy playing games and did not apologize or admit to any wrong doing. She may be thinking of ways to save her company time, but costing herself opportunities by limiting her own responses. We recently completed remodel of a 1500ft town home with the help of Baron Construction. We did a lot of the work ourselves, and brought in Baron to do the heavier work that we couldn't handle ourselves: new doors, some wall framing, drywall, trim, and interior paint. We were quoted slightly more than $100k for the work, the highest of the 3 total quotes we received, and about 20% more than the next highest quote. Definitely not for those looking for a budget remodel. So why did we choose the most expensive contractor in an already insanely overpriced labor market? The project manager was willing to work with our aspirations of doing a lot of the work ourselves - effectively lowering the cash cost of the total project. The other contractors were not willing to deal with splitting the work with a homeowner. Relative to the other GCs we interviewed, communication was excellent - and we did not feel pressured and always felt like we were in control of the process. The project was on-time and on-budget. We are generally happy with the work, although it still feels incredibly expensive for the scope of work completed. I may use Baron again in the future - and if so I will be sure to negotiate harder on price. Post project completion, Baron has been responsive and has addressed small issues that have come up. The workmanship is very good, but not the best I've seen. If you care about workmanship and have an eye for it - you need to point out the areas that you care about to Baron. All things said and done, we think that it will be difficult to find the same combination of communication, punctuality, and workmanship at a lower price. read more

My mom and I came across Baron Construction while they were remodeling our neighbors house. We called Baron for a quote on two bathrooms and to change out the flooring. They were able to come out the following day which was very convenient. We decided to go with them because Mike was super knowledgeable and addressed all of our concerns head on which insured us that if any problem arose he would be present and hands-on. My home was a complete remodel of a 2 story 1950's tract home, 2100 sq ft. The 2nd story & the kitchen additions were from 1960. The 2nd story was not earthquake safe, a soft story over the garage. I interviewed 5 general contractors before choosing Baron. I started my talks with Baron early 1/2020 & we had the design agreed upon in 3/2020. Demolition did not start until 11/2020 & the project finaled in 9/2021. Once the work started it took only 10 1/2 months to complete the house. I have watched similar projects take well over 1 1/2 years from demo to completion, in my neighborhood. I liked that Baron is process oriented, providing full service, architectural design, interior design, structural engineering, & manage the city building permit process. Baron's contract spells out the payment schedule. This schedule is tied to very tangible results, & they followed it! I was never asked to pay until goals were met. I was responsible for paying for all the finished goods materials from the vendors. Baron provided one Project Manager as my point person for consistency thru out the remodel. The PM took me to all the vendors, helping with the selection process. Leeran was my PM. He was the key reason I chose Baron. He did a wonderful job listening to & understanding my goals. He was very proactive in bringing the Baron team together along with vendors to help me come up with best solutions. Communications with phone calls, emails, & text messages were daily. He was never late for appointments. He was so helpful to me on the remodel! There were a # incidences where I was unhappy with Baron's sub-contractors work. Leeran did a good job of mediating with the subs to make corrections to my satisfaction. The job site was messy with water bottles, packing materials, lunch food wrappings & lots of small construction garbage. A couple of big trash cans should be used to keep the site cleaner. After living in my new home for 10 months, I love it! My house has been transformed! Bottom line, I can recommend Baron Construction & Remodeling. read more

We would hire Baron again. Extremely happy with a recent addition to our house. They managed the project end to end, including the early stages where we needed to permit an old structure that we had inherited. The project was done for a flat fee (excluding finished materials), with zero surprise costs after the plans were finalized. They started almost immediately and finished quickly in just a couple of months ... a few weeks ahead of schedule. Our addition was at the far back end of our home, and a top priority for us was to ensure our finished landscaping, hardscape/driveway, etc were not damaged during the project. The crew was generally very careful and respectful, they put down mats, tarps, plywood. They used hand tools to dig. When they had to pour the concrete for the foundation, they carefully ran a hose of several hundred feet from the street and navigated all our plants, pool equipment, etc nicely. Eli was our project manager and he was terrific. He kept in touch 3-5x/week, offered many functional, aesthetic, and cost saving suggestions along the way, even came with us for some of the material purchases to guide us, introduce us to vendors/discounts, etc. He was also a super nice guy, wonderful with our dogs and kids. After receiving a antique marble fireplace mantel from my brothers home he had stored for over 20 years and was donated to my parents home were we wanted it installed there. They took such great care in our home removing old face/base brick around the firebox and taking exceptional care cutting around our expensive Italian marble floor without damaging it not even a scratch! I was so very happy about that! Our marble mantel looks so fantastic now Baron did a awesome job... I was able to see my friend's parents recent kitchen remodel that was completed by Baron's project manager, Eli Levy, and his crew from Baron Construction. We own a 68 year old home and planned to remove a load bearing wall which separated our kitchen and living room in order to have an "open concept" living space. We also had our one and only main bathroom of the house completely remodeled by Baron as well. We met with Eli shortly after we signed all of the paperwork to begin the job in order to select the products that we wanted in our kitchen and bathroom at the warehouse and showroom. Eli's expertise and eye for design really helped in the process of shopping for our dream kitchen. The estimated timeline when we signed on to complete the job from start to finish was about 8 weeks.We worked with Baron and the structural engineer, and they were able to completely hide the massive load-bearing beam into the ceiling so the look of the kitchen and living space is seamless and beautiful. Of course, with all construction projects, it is crucial to constantly check on the contractors' work and job progress. My husband and I went to check on the house on a daily basis and always communicated with Eli on any issues that we had. We hired a moving company and completely moved out of our 3-bedroom home so that construction could be completed by Baron. Every room in the house was touched, so it was crucial for us as homeowners with a young infant child to be away from the construction zone. Eli was always very professional and accommodating to work with, as were all of the contractors that came to complete the job. The contractors from Baron were extremely hard-working and friendly, and everything was communicated in the proper chain of command. Overall, the project timeline took about 4 months to complete. Mike originally came to my house to give me my estimate. I was ready for a complete remodeling of my house but really didnt want to deal with the hassle of different contractor estimates. Aftee 2 estimates Mike Baron came to my home, he was not my lowest estimate but i trusted his knowledge, i felt assured everything was going to be wonderful. Fast forward 3 months... Baron Construction just completed a complex remodel for us. The kitchen was relocated for the objective of enlargement, without adding any square footage to the house. The kitchen and the family room switched places. This involved jackhammers for trenches to relocate plumbing, removal of a gas fireplace, blocking off a window, installation of new windows, flooring, electrical, etc. Eli, the project manager, coordinated all aspects of the job. Baron took responsibility for creating architectural drawings and followed through to obtain a city permit. Once the permit was issued, the clock started, and the job was completed as promised within 14 weeks. Baron's contract price was for a flat fee. The firm price quoted seemed high, but in the end, it appears that the price was fair. There was one surprise "change order" due to an unknowable pipe location that required special plumbing work. We excluded Baron from doing the cabinetry & countertop fabrication since several friends had highly recommended a particular company in San Jose. It's called Woodenbridge Fine Joinery, --an excellent choice. The project proceeded smoothly, with few days lost due to other ongoing projects. There is a definite sequence of work that must be followed, and Eli skillfully kept the various trades well scheduled to keep things moving. The crew, all qualified subcontractors, were conscientious and worked without much supervision. My presence on-site to field questions and catch some things that needed revision, was necessary. The layout drawings --not Baron's responsibility, did not show specs for every detail. Baron Construction's project manager was extremely accommodating, and offered many helpful suggestions. From the first work day, when the crew moved our furniture into the garage for storage, to the final clean-up day, I was confident that the final result would be as I envisioned.
