Clever design worked on our Loft Extension. Our house had an existing loft that over looked the lower level. We wanted to extend the floor to cover the overlook and convert that area into a bedroom as well as convert the loft into an office / bedroom. We are very happy with the work. Any areas of concern were quickly addressed with out question. They were also accepting of our last minute changes, specifically adding in some extra canned lights, re-doing the floor of the entire house, and additional painting asks. I cannot emphasize how happy we are with Gili and his team. We hired them to do a kitchen remodel with some structural elements, and we were blown away. I've worked with many contractors in the past, and a lot of them say "we just want you to be happy", but Gili and his team truly meant it. Firstly, Gili introduced us to one of his designers, who helped us lock-in on a design that satisfied all of our needs. Then, his team provided photorealistic renderings of the space, which were so good that they were in distinguishable from the final product. We knew exactly what we were going to get before any construction started, which was invaluable. Gili's team was extremely coordinated with permitting, material ordering, and work completion. We didn't have materials that we had to store for long periods of time, because they had a strong idea of when we would need to place the orders so that they would arrive right on time. In the Bay Area, where we don't have a lot of space, this was amazingly helpful. The final product was exactly what we wanted, and throughout the process Gili continued to check in and make sure that everything was perfect. We worked with the team for our kitchen remodel in the spring of this year. Pros: Liane's design was both aesthetically beautiful and so incredibly functional for our family. She was thoughtful in all of her design decisions and really understood great design that was practical for our family with young kids. The final product is incredibly high quality craftsmanship, attributed primarily to our amazing foreman, Carlos and his extensive knowledge and expertise. Even our inspector commented on how high quality the execution was. The team was, in the beginning, super proactive and motivated to align on a design, get the plans, submit for permits and begin work and they do stand behind his work. Cons: I'm a very organized person and function as a project manager for part of my role at work. Working with the team was one of the most frustrating and at times infuriating collaborations I've ever had. They did not have a capable PM on the team - they couldn't consistently share a schedule and plan, at times went multiple hours without returning calls during important periods where decisions needed to be made and missed important meetings (like our biggest inspection where they tried to gaslight me into saying that they never planned to attend even when they confirmed he would), to name a few examples. The construction was completed to our satisfaction, but as another example of the frustrations we experienced, the team completely ghosted us for a month to try to schedule the final punch list item to the point where we cut ties and decided to finish the work ourselves (which was the same exact experience my friend who hired him had in 2023). Overall, if you are laissez-faire with communications and schedules and that isn't a priority, the team does quality work at reasonable prices and I'd recommend. If you care about reliable communications and clear and transparent timing and scheduling, I wouldn't recommend. read more

Working with Roy and his team was fantastic! we wanted to remodel our garage to make it a more usable space. The previous owners are our home constructed a small office in the garage so there was no space to park any cars and it always felt dark and cluttered. We reached out to a few contractors and were surprised at the wide range of quotes. Thankfully, we finally spoke with Roy at clever design and the quote was the sweet spot. Even better, he mentioned that they do not use subcontractors. The individuals coming to work on our project would be his own employees. From the quote to the finish of the project, communication was a breeze. We got timely updates and we were always able to reach Roy with no issue. What really impressed me was his response time. I went into labor (I was pregnant) while the project was ongoing. When I came home, my husband, and I noticed there was no hot water. We called Roy, and him and his team were there in five minutes, literally. Five minutes!! They figured out that our water tank pilot light went out. They fixed it even though that was not their issue. They did not cause the problem. They just simply said OK - we will help you fix it. As a new mother, with a newborn, I was so grateful. This speaks to how good they are. All in all, my husband and I were so impressed with everything. We have a garage that we actually want to use and can park our cars in. We hired Clever Design & Remodeling to remodel two of our builder-grade showers a few months ago. After gathering multiple bids and quotes from 6+ other companies, we ended up going with Clever and I'm so glad we did. Their quote came in middle of the pack, but Gili is what really sold me over to go with Clever Design & Remodeling -- his honesty is hard to find from contractors. Gili and his team are awesome and easy to work with. From the minute Gili came to my house for a quote, he was very honest and transparent and never tried to upsell me at any point. He was the only person we got a quote from that actually made the time to have a follow-up discussion with me (over Zoom) and answer all of my questions. He was very organized, and prepared a formal quote that was itemized as much as possible. From when we signed the contract, it took about 3-4 weeks to start the work (Gili was very transparent with me about timelines). In that time, we worked with Alan, the designer, who met up with us at the showrooms and helped us choose all tiles and fixtures. He also provided 3D renderings of the bathrooms and we were very impressed and excited to get started on the demo. We did a kitchen remodel to an almost original 1962 kitchen. We hired Gili and he made it a simple, turnkey process. He owned the entire process: design, blueprints, architect, permits, construction, etc. He was always responsive during the entire process. A wall was removed to integrate the kitchen and dining room and the result is amazing. Everything in the kitchen, from cabinets, counters, backsplash, sink, etc. completely changed the house dynamic. I could go on for pages about the excellent work that Gili and his crew has done for my home. This review is for work done a year ago and I wanted to wait to see how well their work held up. Turns out flawless. The back and sides of my house was essentially a badly sloping and irregular mud pit. I called Clever Design for a simple concrete deck. They came over and gave me a reasonable quote for the basic task that I had in mind. The fun started when my wife was shown a picture book of the work that they can and have done. From that moment I stepped back and my wife's dream materialized. Textured and dyed concrete, a complete rework of a barely functional watering system, an efficient drainage system leading to the street, a textured concrete walkway around my home, an incredibly gorgeous retaining wall (with a 20 foot built-in planter) surrounding half of my home, a badly level yard was fixed to level with designed 15 foot concrete step and most importantly, a very happy wife! The professional staff are courteous and respectful. I've actually felt guilty when they consistently and promptly bent over backwards to accommodate my wife's ever growing changes. 1. We have lived in this house for close to 20 years and in all the time here we have not remodeled our kitchen and bathrooms. So it's easy to guess that we live by the motto: "If it ain't broke don't fix it" :-). So when the kitchen sink and all its accompanying plumbing &systems gave way, it was a signal for us. We researched : Yelp, google, Houzz etc. We converged on Clever Design and we admit that it was an excellent decision. 2. Gili first met us in the spring of 2023 to understand our needs. What stood out to us that Gili: * listened to us patiently and offered creative suggestions about the various options available to us but did not push us towards anything beyond our comfort zone. * He spoke with conviction about his team of workers and the satisfaction of his clients. During those initial meetings we felt assured that Gilli had the skill to attract, hold on and lead talented people. 3. Adhering to a schedule and finishing the job on time without delays while delivering a quality job was extremely important to us. When Gili presented an estimate to us, we were impressed by the tight and detailed schedule (which covered an itinerary of tasks, sub-tasks and sub-sub tasks). He was very upfront about details of his team, workmen and his commitment. We felt assured about his leadership skills and decided to go with Gili. 4. He was flexible & accommodating when we decided to push the work out by a few months. During this time Gili nudged us into doing a lot of prep work. This proved extremely useful in the long run because it gave us time to learn about the market place for kitchen counter tops, cooktop, sinks, bathroom fixtures etc. In Alan Sofiov, Gili's design team member, we had an excellent guide. Gili exhibited great leadership in closely following our progress with Alan, frequently speaking to us and checking on the worksheet that Alan had created for us ........ keeping an eye on availability of items we liked. Gili has built great connections with the vendors and we experienced excellent customer service at all these places. All this is proof that Gili has meticulously invested in people with great work ethic. 5. Work began in September 2023. Home remodeling equates to Anxiety. But it helped a lot that Gili prepared us well. He supervised the protective covering of the floors, cupboards, living areas, furniture etc. to minimize the impact of dust and dirt and ensured the prompt cleanup of the premises at the end of the workday. He diligently worked with the vendors regarding delivery dates, payments, transportation and careful storage of the delivered items. We felt assured that Gili was able to get us the best possible price for the items. 6. Gili's team is very punctual and respectful. They come on time, work very hard through the day and clean the house every evening before leaving for the day. 7. Gili's communication with his team was excellent. So he was always ready with answers for our questions. He often draws on his experience to offer advice. We were in a conundrum regarding the layout of the tiles for our bathroom walls and floor. He came early in the morning, worked with the workmen to lay out the possible patterns, suggested the trends etc and helped us to eventually decide on a pattern. This is just one example of his willingness to help the client and his commitment to client's needs. 8. Once the work was completed, Gili also ensured the carpets, curtains and whole house was fully cleaned. He worked with us to understand our priorities for cleaning and engaged with his contacts to ensure the house was cleaned to our utmost satisfaction. 9. Looking back, Our experience has been that: He was an excellent conduit between us and his team. He would our needs/queries/ideas into actionable options, discuss them with his team members and come up with an optimal solution. An excellent team leader! We would be remiss to not mention the huge network he has created and sustained in the vendor community: appliances, countertops, bathroom fixtures etc. All signs of a good leader. 10. Finally got around to remodeling the master bath and got to create the bathroom of my dreams. Thanks to Alan (designer), Gili (project manager), and Carlos (contractor). As with every renovation, it takes longer, costs more money, and hiccups along the way. But everyone was quick to respond and eager to help. It was great to have Alan help with the design, to figure out the dimensions, create a realistic rendering to see my vision, and meet me at the stores to purchase. Unlike other companies, Gili was easy to reach through phone/text/Whatsapp and he followed through. Usually, contractors say they'll come at a certain time but show up really late or never show. Gili and Carlos showed up when they said they would. Gili frequently checked in to see how things were going and stopped by to check in on the work himself. Once everything was done, we had a toilet leak after a few weeks of use, and Gili/Carlos were quick to come and install a new toilet for us. Very impressed! As a first-time bathroom renovator, I have some tips: As soon as the tile in the shower is put in, do your homework and find a glass person ASAP. It's not included in the project. I didn't know it would take weeks for glass to be installed (also because I had a "special" request for white hardware, which is apparently hard to find). So this extended the completion of my bathroom by weeks. Buy all the hardware and have it ready even before reno begins so you can make sure it fits/looks nice. If it doesn't, it gives you time to return and order something else. Overall, I highly recommend Clever Design. They made the process pretty easy and as you can see by the pictures, the finished product was even better than I could have imagined. We hired Clever Design & Remodeling for a kitchen re-model and installation of new windows at our home. After meeting with several general contractors, it was apparent from the start how reliable and responsive they were, where it was clear from a gut feeling they wanted the business and were going to do the job well. Once we laid out the scope of the project, an accurate quote was provided with a fast turn around. From the beginning, the project manager we worked with , Roy, was honest about material delays due to supply chain issues, and made it clear it was best to start the project once all materials were available, so the remodeling work could continue without interruption. We worked with one of their designers, named Allen, to lay out the kitchen concept we shared. Allen was fantastic - very responsive and supportive. He came with us to finalize the cabinet choices with our supplier of choice, as well as countertop material, backsplash, etc. The entire process was seamless to finalize the design. They knew what to do and when to do it, and guided us through each milestone that lead to the cabinets, materials and appliances being ordered. We were able to achieve every design feature we wanted with essentially zero push back! Also, regarding the required permits for the construction work - we didn't have to worry about any of those details at all. That was approved by the county ahead of materials arrival. Before the kitchen started, we had new windows and a slider door installed first, of which we were able to handle remotely while traveling, which was wonderful! We had been told from other sources that new construction was best for new windows, in terms of insulation. However, this is substantially more expensive to do, and Roy didn't push this on us. He was confident in his team, and that a retro-fit based installation would be effective. The windows are working great and we have noticed an improvement in temperature changes on really hot days inside the house, of which is evident that insulation has improved, so this was money well spent. No demolition was performed until they had everything they needed, which was about 4 months after we finalized everything. Overall, the project was estimated to take about 6-8 weeks which turned out to be rather accurate. We wanted to avoid renting another place during construction, and they were fine working with us while living here. Their work was also very clean as well, we weren't disturbed by either any dust or loose material during construction. Roy's project manager of choice was Raul, who is an incredibly skilled craftsman and easy to work with. Raul's main guys, Geraldo and Ulysses, are also clearly skilled journeyman with a lot of experience. As anyone should expect with a project like this, small issues pop up here and there, it's impossible to know everything before starting and completing each step. Despite that, we wanted to handle things amicably - my wife and I try to be reasonable and open with communication. Everyone that came to the house matched that energy well. We can say that this was a conflict free experience, no hard feelings at all. It was all handled professionally through Roy and Raul's leadership, and each person who came in to do their respective job was great. I highly recommend considering Clever Design and Remodeling for any remodeling project! You won't be disappointed! It's been several months since we completed our house remodel (located in Palo Alto) with Clever Design & Remodeling and I waited to write this review until we had a chance to live in our remodeled home for a while. We're very pleased with the remodel, especially our kitchen and master bathroom, which are the most important areas for us. The project was essentially a whole house remodel - 4 bathrooms, kitchen, new HW flooring throughout, new paint, lighting, electrical upgrades, etc. As most of the other reviews mention, the communication with Roy and construction team led by David was fantastic throughout the project. Kept up-to-date on progress, and all questions and requests responded to quickly (even responded immediately to questions I came up with late at night!). Another great aspect of working with Clever Design and Remodeling was how well they dealt with new and change requests during the project. During a large project like this, there will always be changes and additional things that come up that are not in the original project bid/plan - for example, changing the design of the staircase, relocating the kitchen drain cleanout, adding a new electrical subpanel in the garage suitable for an EV charger, etc. Roy and David handled these new requests quickly and always with the response - "No problem, we'll take care of it!". This was fantastic. The other really positive aspects of the project that stood out for me were: - Willingness of the construction team to let me observe and learn while they worked. As a homeowner, I feel it's important to know where things like plumbing and electrical are routed and how things work in case I need to make repairs or changes in the future. David's teams of workers were always friendly and happy to let me observe and poke around. - The sub-contractors and suppliers/vendors Clever Design use were excellent, especially for the bathroom glass and mirrors (All About Glass: https://www.yelp.com/biz/all-about-glass-san-jose), cabinets and flooring (Advance Cabinets: https://www.yelp.com/biz/advance-cabinets-and-flooring-san-jose-3), and the stone countertops fabrication and installation. Now after several months living in our "new" home, I can happily state that everything functions exactly as they should, no leaks, glitches, etc. For me this is the most important part. The aesthetic design of our remodeled home is pretty nice too! The only negative thing I can think of is some of the final "fit and finish" in the project wasn't perfect, but they're minor things that I can easily take care of. We bought our home in October, and immediately started the search for someone to renovate our bathrooms. We purchased an Eichler home, so it was important we were able to find someone to help carry the modern design into the bathrooms. Ultimately we decided to go with Clever because of Gili, he was transparent and we immediately felt comfortable with him handling our remodel. We are also very particular so it was important we found someone we could trust. When We met with Gili, and he took the time to walk us through what we could expect, and ensured us that he'd help us take care of everything from start to finish. Not only did he have someone on staff to design our bathrooms, he made sure we had the designer came with us to the showroom to pick out what we would need. We felt confident we were getting fair pricing with everything too, if the team thought a showroom was over priced they told us where we could easily save money which was nice. They sent us a rendering of what it would look like and it came out just like the rendering. We were super impressed on demo day at how clean the job site was, Gili and his team treated our home with a lot of care. Another thing that is super important is they didn't cut corners, they did everything to city code, and even got an architect out to the house to ensure that the remodel would not affect anything in the home as we have a lot of beams due to the style. We didn't have to worry about anything. When we were nearing the end of the project Gili and team left the home on better condition then when they started the project it felt like. Everything was very clean, and throughout the project they also kept the home cleaned up every day when they left the site. This review is for the consultation I had with the project manager, Itay. Although I wasn't able to go with Clever Design in the end, they really stood out in the consultation experience. I wanted to do a full renovation of my bathroom and Itay was very patient and responsive in answering all my questions. After the in-person consultation, he followed up with a second Zoom consultation where he went over all the finer details. A detail I liked is that Clever has in-house designers to mock up the project, and that is included in the estimate. I hope to work with Clever Design in the future for any more home improvement projects! read more

Everyone knows that doing construction in your home, especially your bathrooms, can be a huge hassle and extremely stressful. That is even more amplified if the company you choose isn't as good as you thought or expected them to be. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you have found the best company to work with in Clever Design & Remodeling. We wanted to remodel our master bathroom and found 3 of the best (5 star ratings on Yelp) companies that we could find. We met with each of them, got consultations and estimates. Roy (owner) was so kind, extremely honest, very informative and didn't pressure us one bit. His price was perfect for our budget. Not on the extremely high side, and not the lowest where you wonder why it's so low and what's hidden that you're not expecting. From start to finish the communication was excellent, the work was second to none, and his crew was absolutely amazing. Every single person that came into our home to work was respectful, kind, amazingly talented, nice to talk with, and consistent. The final product was exactly what the 3D renders they showed us at the beginning looked like and we couldn't be happier. We had a relatively small but somewhat complicated job, remodeling our fireplace and living room wall. We had something specific in mind for the look we wanted but no idea how to achieve it, what materials to use etc. when Gil showed up to talk to us he immediately understood what it was that we were trying to achieve. Other contractors seemed like they just wanted to start working on whatever we told them to do, but Gil started from a design perspective, looking at pinterest pics with us, putting elements together but also telling us where he thought some proportions could be different and so on. We chose to work with him even though his estimate was not the cheapest cause we were confident that we would get the look we wanted. And boy did he deliver. Starting out with a design rendering that fixed exactly what we had in mind and then going to work with his crew asap. There were challenges along the way when one of the stucco walls didnt line up or paint texture was not exactly what we were looking for. But gil turned out to be more demanding on his crew than we were, not quitting until every last detail was exactly as we wanted it. He even threw in a lot of odd jobs around the house for free. In the end it was clear that he and his team enjoy building beautiful things and are willing to go the extra mile to keep the customer satisfied. After we bought our new home I hired a handyman to remodel our Master bathroom, and after 4 months of nightmare we decided to hire Clever Design And Remodeling. from the very first moment I knew that it's the best fit for me, the project manager was very professional and clear about the process with them. we discussed everything from the design phase, all the way to the last details of the tiles and shower fixtures we selected. we started the work shortly after we finalize everything so we saved a valuable time for me. When we started the project The very first day was super exciting for me, the guys helped me with all the preparations, and make sure to cover everything from my new floors all the way to the celling to make sure there's no dust coming to our bedroom. they also installed a portable toilet for the workers during the construction time, for me that was very important, because I was pregnant and safety it's first priority for me. During the project the communication with Clever Design and Remodeling was super smooth, we got daily updates about the schedule and the inspections along the way, I was very busy with my family at that time so i needed to trust them to finish everything on time, and we actually was pretty surprised that we finished the project earlier then excepted, we did some final walkthrough to fix some small touch ups, and right after that everything was done I am so thankful and happy!! Clever has a good team which makes the renovation process a more relaxing endeavor. Our team was Liane (designer), Roey (project manager) and David (contractor). They have a defined process that carries you from the initial design to construction and finally cleanup. First, the design allows one to 1) envision the final product which was surprisingly spot on, 2) pick out the appropriate quantities of materials, and 3) clearly specifies what will be build. During construction, the team on site was always happy to answer any questions or concerns. There was also a chat group where we would receive responses within 1 day (often much quicker). The team worked diligently throughout the project which included many weekends. Despite many moving parts, the project proceeded pretty methodically with the right tradespeople arriving at the appropriate time. They clearly have a lot of experience. Finally, the Clever team really wants to ensure you are happy with the final product. First, while the construction crew does a commendable job maintaining a clean work site, Clever brings in a cleaning crew to make it move in ready. In addition, Clever is responsive even after completion because they know little issues pop up. Clever Design and Remodeling did a fantastic job on our bathroom. Our bathroom wall fell down in July and I reached out to several companies for quotes. Other companies wouldn't even look at our situation until a remediation company came in first. Gilli, Roy and their crew stepped in and took care of everything. All of the workers from remediation to the final painting touch ups were very pleasant to work with. I was particularly impressed with the precision of the tile work. Gili was honest, helpful and kind - seems common, but isn't always. He had great ideas about the kitchen as well as connections for cabinets and countertops. He met me at the showroom, took measurements and was incredibly supportive in the process. All of the guys who worked on my home also had similar work ethics and kindness. My job was done on time and quickly and Gili communicated with me regularly. At the end we did a walk through of the job. Roey was in charge of my project--new kitchen, 3 bathrooms, new floors, paint, and other miscellaneous restoration and fix-ups--basically the entire house. I had an efficient and hardworking team; the on site manager was amiable and easy to work with. Throughout the process, I never had to look over their shoulders to check on them. These guys responded incredibly fast. I called late last night after they were closed and left a message, not really expecting a call back until the next day or so. I received a call 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, I was told they don't service South San Francisco (So sad about this because my bathroom needs a remodel ASAP due to water damage) , but I was still impressed with the response time. read more

We interviewed 5 different general contractors for our kitchen remodel project before deciding to go with Clever Design @ Remodeling. Gili was our project manager, and it was an absolute pleasure to work with him and his team. Gili and his team are thorough professionals, and the new kitchen was delivered on time as he had estimated. They took all our feedback into consideration during the design phase, provided suggestions as needed but at no point in time forced their opinion. All the individuals who worked on the project from the designer (Allen) to the foreman (Raul) to the crew (Jason, Carlos, Victor, Marcos etc.) were great. They were all very easy to work with. They were on time, worked hard, and put up with my daily inquisitiveness :) The best thing is that they respected my family, our space and valued our input throughout the project. He did so much for us from choosing all the materials all the way to the perfect 3D design that the team did for us, they finished our project on the best way, with minimum hassle for us, the process was super smooth.
