Very cool spot with nice open door and windows for a summer breeze. I really like this spot and pla. To make it my go to local sports bar. They did a super job on the build out and really keep the place clean, especially the bathrooms. A big bonus for me was a Busch Light tall boy, I mean why down a mountain when you can down a Busch? This place is diagonal from my apartment, and I had been saying for a month or so that I needed to check it out. My boyfriend, at the time, and I decided we should finally check it out. It's super small but has a beautiful, hip interior. Lots of cool lights surrounding the bottles and such. Since we both work in the industry, we like to chat up bartenders. I can't remember this bartenders name (I want to say he had a beard, if my memory serves me well - it was a month or so ago that we went), but man, he was so awesome! We shot the shit with him for a while, sharing industry stories and whatnot. We tried this god awful banana bread bottled beer when we were there. I had a long day at a conference and I wanted a beer and some pub food. This place was on the corner, close to the conference and looked like a good place to land. They had 20 beers on tap, they were big on the local microbeers, yeah I love that. I chose a nice IPA on tap, the bartender was very friendly and he looked like Big Ben. I asked about their food, and he said they didn't have any but handed me a huge stack of delivery places. We selected a great pizza place. We had enough left that we shared with the bartender and the rest of the patrons in the bar. This is a fun place to have a beer. read more

I LOVE this place! Been here twice on nights where I just want to relax and have a few drinks with a friend. We haven't seen it crazy busy but the bartender is super nice! I'll have to get his name next time but he's been great-always keeps an eye on where we are at on our drinks. I've never had to wait for a second round. I usually go here for whiskey or bourbon and end the night with a beer. They have a great selection of everything. Great whiskey and craft beer lineup. I'm talking Woodford Reserve Rye and Zombie Dust level. Gorgeous design, comfortable high tops, excellent service and fair pricing. After a few rounds of shots and many rounds beers for three or four of us we still left with just $100 of damage. Given the quality of the booze this surprised us. Bartender as great, friendly and available without being intrusive. The only negative is if you are looking to get rowdy the place is small and I wouldn't recommend it as that could disturb everyone else. Welcome to the hood Barrel Man! 5 STARS - MUST GO! My husband & I were staying at the Heart O' Chicago across the street and decided to check out Barrerlman Tavern. This was one of the best decisions we made all weekend long. The owner, Travis, was super friendly and helpul. So many great choices of drinks to choose from. He even let us sample some whiskeys (and I'm not even a whiskey girl, but am now)!! We were bummed we only made it in there once througout the whole weekend but will make it a point to visit again soon! OH, and they have HUGE TV's & an awesome setup! Such an amazing spot with a great neighborhood vibe!! The owners are the absolute sweetest and the bartender, Elise, who is there on Thursdays is equally as amazing! They always have a great draft selection along with a plethora of whiskeys to choose from! They don't serve food so they let you do a BYO Food situation which is so nice! You can order delivery or bring your own snacks in which is great if you have a large group! Legit their only downfall is that they aren't closer to our condo lol! read more

My favorite bar, albeit maybe biased because I'm a semi-regular and staff knows me by name. Beer selection is great, Danny is very knowledgeable about his drafts. They have TVs all around the bar and can request channels. This place can get crowded, so I do prefer it when there are fewer customers. read more

First things first, this is a good bar. It was about two weeks ago I walked in to meet a group of friends. Already I was feeling very uncomfortable with the notion of going out because I was suffering from stage four diarrhea, which means my butthole had changed from being an ice cream dispenser into a garden hose. This most likely was the result of riding a CTA bus in shorts so know that the bar wasn't to blame for my GI issues. Shortly after walking in, I was greeted by a 9 out 10 bartender, a doorman, and some other guy. They were all very nice and one of the men even offered me a high five because the Blackhawks had just scored. A high five is what white people do when celebrating mutual happiness. And I went with it, following through as my palm slapped the hand of another palm in midair, creating a snap sort of sound effect that conveyed consenuality. It was fun and it made me smile. I proceeded to make way through the bar, passing the stained oak and pub tables which I found to be very soothing. In a way, it reminded me of colonial times or the renissance and/or a scene from Terminator 2, Judgement Day, which is a movie about robots taking over the world. However metaphorically it was about a kid becoming friends with a robot that gets himself into all sorts of trouble before he eventually takes his own life (he was depressed). Unfortunately unlike Terminator One, the movie does not show Sarah Conner's tiddays which for me really brought together the first film's vivid plot points. Meeting my friends at the table, I was able to work out a geriatric birthday fart, also known as a GBF, to alleviate my situation. As everyone knows a geriatric birthday fart is a silent fart that resembles the sound of an older adult struggling to blow out candles on a birthday cake. And it also signals death is right around the corner because it smells that bad and often merits radiation. And also it can break your hips. Thankfully my fart exited out of a nearby window which is another testament to this bar's decor. I think any family would find literally a breath of fresh air should they take a chance on this location. The size of the bar is also a welcomed change versus the large douche like bars that are frequent in wrigleyville. What's more, as I took to the toilet, I was happy to see the bathrooms were private and allowed for a properly locked door. As I let my bowels explode into the clean toilet with tears coming down my eyes, I was even more thankful to see that I could activate the hand dryer from the sitting position in an effort to conceal the sounds of evil I was unintentionally creating. I like to think that the bar's owner had a compassionate mindset when designing the bathroom and that we are a better country for it. About 20 minutes later as I wrapped up the operation, I left the bathroom and proceeded to meet with my friends. The mood in the bar was energized but not crazy loud where you have to yell to talk, which was also nice. My fiends and I were able to chat and we carried on through the night talking about movies, sports, Caitlyn Jenner, and interior decorating tips. Before the night ended our friend Douglas informed us with a low tone that he lump in his testicular sack that was causing him discomfort. We told him to not bring it up again and to let it ride out and that it will go away. He didnt take our advice and went to the doctor the next day and now he has cancer (because of obamacare), which just goes to show you that you can't help people make the right choices. But in a bar as great as this one is, I think you will find the right choice is easy and that they made plenty of them when making this bar. Dr. Chicago read more

Nothing as exciting as going on a date night with the wife and stopping by the new neighborhood bar to try it out for a night cap. Too bad they could care less about us being there. We were littlerally the only customers in the bar. No music, lights on bright and football game blaring. Did not create a very welcoming atmosphere. Asked for a drink menu and was told "we don't have one, we are so small we don't need one.". Guess they will be staying small . No food +no specials = no business. As my wife said, it is no different than having a drink at home. Gave 2 stars because of location cleanliness and overall appearance. read more

Try to see if there's a cocktail they don't make well. They do old Fashions the right way and have a huge selection of whiskey to put in there. Beer selection is on point as well. This place is NOT for anyone over 30 that wants to go out and hang out with a few friends and talk. We stopped in 2 weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. Probably will never return. The bartender was indifferent and did not have a clue as to what he was doing. The bright spot was the guy on the door. He was pleasant. We are in our 50's and there were 2 other middle aged couples, and 1 younger couple. The bartender only engaged the younger couple whom he seemed to know. The TV's were all on different stations and all blaring loudly to the point of giving you a headache. Sports are fine, it is a sports bar, but even the most sport ignorant person can watch a game, figure out what is happening, without the SOUND being blasted into their skulls like a jackhammer. Where was the music? How could anyone be expected to even carry on a conversation? What is really the point in going out to a bar to watch a game, paying high prices for the beer, only to not be able to even SPEAK to the person you are with, or anyone else for that matter. I am giving it 2 stars for a couple of reasons. They really did spruce the place up from when it was Egan's and later the Irish Rover. The guy on the door was really nice. The place was clean. Other than that, I would not go here again, it is not a place for anyone over the age of 30 that wants to go out, watch a game and talk. We officially love Barrelman! I don't have enough good things to say about this bar. Friendly, fun, attentive staff, awesome drinks at great prices, and great atmosphere. Dog friendly and people friendly!! We went on Sunday to watch the Bears game, made a reservation for 8 people and probably had 13 at one point. They were so nice about making room for us, bringing over extra chairs, accommodating those coming and going on separate checks....we couldn't have asked for more.....until they brought in FREE PIZZA for the bar! What?! Yes. True. Actually happened. We had such a great Sunday-funday with Barrelman and look forward to the next one! This is one of the good ones in Chicago, folks; take note. read more
