Guyaba, Peanut Butter Mazapan, Gansito, Tamale
    Anthony D.

Small kiosk located in the Old Town Urban Market. They had a good selection of Mexican-inspired donuts. We got the Guyaba, Peanut Butter (Reeses) Mazapan, Gansito and a tamale. The Mazapan donut was really interesting because the texture of the glaze is a little bit harder due to the Mazapan. So you get the softness of the donut but when you get to the icing/glaze, you really have to bite through it. Interesting texture but the flavor was very good. The Gansito was very interesting and. I didn't know what to expect. It has an eclair-like shape and the dough was a bit more firm than I was expecting. However the filling inside was really good with cream and some red fruit jam. Overall these donuts are definitely unique and different where I would consider coming back to try some other flavors!

    Guava and Jamaica Donuts

This was my first time trying any Barrio Donas locations and I was so happy to find unique donuts! If you're looking for a pick-me-up or love Horchata, this is also a place to check out! We got the Guava Cheese/Cream donut (filled with guava jam and whipped cream cheese?) and topped with icing and a cookie. We also got the Jamaica donut which had a tart glaze on top with a cute sugar hibiscus flower decor. Both were good but different vibes. If you want a decadent and rich donut, the guava one is the way to go and it's not too overly sweet. If you're looking for a lighter donut and like the acidic taste, the Jamaica one is delicious! They also sell De Olla Cold Brew which tastes like a Mexican cinnamon iced coffee and horchata! We got the cold brew and horchata separately but I recommend just getting the combination drink! They're both good on their own but because of how authentic the horchata tastes, mixing the two was a match made in heaven--seriously. Pricey but I would get it again! This donut shop is in the new food court area in Old Town closer to the end streets on the bus station end. There is some seating outside and the store employee was friendly!

Simple but solid spot for some donuts and coffee. I swung by Monday morning right at 9am and they were ready to serve customers. I went with the Guava Maria donut and an iced Cafe de olla + horchata. The donut was flufft and soft, filled with guava jam and whipped cream, topped with icing and a maria cookie. The jam and top icing wasn't too sweet and tasted good, my only wish was that there wasn't whipped cream inside since it's just there as a filler, and the cookie being stuck in half way got soggy. I know it's only one cookie and only half of it was soggy, but I still would've liked a full cooked laid on top! The coffee was outstanding though! Smooth and slightly sweet cafe de olla with the rich and milky horchata. A solid mixture and great way to start the morning

What a hidden gem. Such a cute little shop in old town. Drinks are really good, it's smooth and not so strong The donuts are soft and yummy.

This was my first time going to the urban market in old town San Diego. I've been wanting to go for a while. And this place was one of the reasons why I wanted to go. The donuts here at Barrio Donas were so good and flavorful. You could taste all the unique flavors of each ingredient. The donuts were soft and pillowy. I got a half of dozen to try a couple of their different donuts they had. I got Paleta Payaso Gansito Abuelita Strawberry guava Horchata Pumpkin I spent a little over $19.00 for 6 donuts My family and I loved everything we got. Each donut had its own unique flavor. They weren't overly sweet which I love. I would definitely recommend this cute little donut shop to my family and friends!

I've been to the Barrio Donas Old Town location several times and absolutely love their donuts--my favorite is the Chocolate Abuelita, which I get every time. It's a charming little donut shop located in a small plaza with other eateries, making it a convenient spot to grab more food. I especially enjoy stopping by Elote Old Town next door for a bite. That said, I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the consistently unfriendly service. Every time I visit, the cashier seems to be in a bad mood, which makes the experience uncomfortable. You even have to ask for your donuts to be packed to-go, which feels like an inconvenience for them. If they could improve their customer service, it would make such a difference and likely attract more loyal customers. The donuts are amazing, but the poor service holds this place back from its full potential.

Love love love! Went here for coffee and donuts! Got the Cafe de la olla with horchata cold brew! So so good! Was savoring this drink. Every sip! The Donuts are so delicious. Light and fluffy and soft and full of deliciousness! Definitely coming back!

They need to update their hours online so not come Tuesday-Thursday they are only open on the weekends which is extremely inconvenient for those who are locals like myself. What a waste of time hopefully they do give future customers who aren't so local a heads up with their hours on google and Apple Maps

We were excited about visiting and trying their coffee and donuts. Unfortunately, they fell flat on flavor. The donuts were ok. Not as soft and fresh as donuts should be. Donuts averaged about $3.50 each. The cafe de olla cold brew and the strawberry jamaica were hard to swallow. We threw out the cafe de olla after three sips. We purchased another lemonade drink to sweeten up the strawberry jamaica, it didn't help. We gladly support small businesses so we'd come back and give them another chance in the future because it may have been an off day. Parking wasn't an issue because we got here pretty early. The collection of small shops here is very cute. Plenty of tables outside.

Pros: * Super cute shop * They have a small assortment of unique Donuts that are super fun * Donuts are okay Cons: *N/A Extra: * Outdoor shaded seating * Free parking across the street

Such a cute donut shop tucked into the Old Town Urban Market. There aren't tables indoors but there are some tables outside in the courtyard area. They have really unique flavors, we got the cajeta and horchata flavors. The donuts are really soft/fluffy and can get a little messy especially if you're eating them on a warmer day. They taste delicious! I personally prefer the "crispy" fried donuts but these would be perfect with a cup of coffee, it melts in your mouth. They do sell out of flavors so try to come earlier if you want to have more options! Prices are fair for craft donuts.

My friend and I were hungry for a doughnut and Barrio Donas didn't disappoint. The gourmet doughnuts are fresh, light, and fluffy. Great selection and decorated nicely. I had the horchata doughnuts. The lemonade was just alright. If you are in old town stop by Barrio Danas.

Barrio Donuts is now officially popping up on Saturdays and Sundays at the Old Town Urban Market. I had "La Cajeta" doughnut which was very good. The cajete on top was very creamy and I really appreciated the slice almonds and pecan halves on top. The doughnut itself was very soft and tasty. It was a very good doughnut, and I appreciated the fact that the cajete was not overwhelming. They do not carry all of the doughnut line up as the Clairemont location, but at least six varieties at the time, and perhaps more in the near future. Service was super friendly, and remember they are only their Saturdays and Sundays. Hopefully more days of the week as the summer season approaches.

Comic con for the win!!!!…read more This place goes all out every year with the Comic-Con donuts. Every year they bring their unique donuts into the heart of Comic-Con with their pop-ups. I usually never have luck grabbing one at their donuts at the pop-ups, but it's good to know that they offer their pop-up comic con donuts at their main shop by Little Italy. Drove down Sunday morning to grab my hand on this year's batch. With Stitch, Batman, and Pokémon, this year's donuts were amazing. The donuts are $8, and you're basically paying for the design. They are pretty, but they don't hold much flavor other than looks; it's just a basic donut that looks really good. But I remember them tasting different from all angles, but I guess this year was different. Regardless, the donuts were really good and well worth the trip. Paid it with chocolate milk or coffee and wow just wow. I Can't wait for next year.

Last week while in town for San Diego Comic Con, we decided to stop by and boy were we disappointed. The "themed" donuts are just lazy. They used to have different fillings and flavors and now? You only get different color frosting for the designs. The workers confirmed they were all the same donut flavor without any special features aside from their appearances. We tried the maple bacon, creme brulee, and vanilla glaze. The bacon was chewy and gross on the maple bacon bar. The creme brulee sugar topping was soft and chewy. The filling was just way too sweet and liquidy. The vanilla glaze was basic. Across the board, all the donuts were dry. The design and layout are just so boring now. It used to be a cool and fun, cozy place to visit with so many more donut flavors and even savory options. Now it's just not worth it.

The little sectioned off ball looking segments of the donut are also a game changer when it comes to eating - easier to eat without making a mess!
