lI made reservations l, arrived 15 minutes early and was told my table wasn't ready. I watched over 30 ppl be seated and made 4 trips to the hostess to inquire. We were seated 45 minutes after we arrived; 30 minutes after my reservation. My last visit up to the podium I was snippy and finally was seated. The tacos are pricy for what you get. I ordered a shrimp, cactus and grilled fish tacos. I didn't eat the corn tortilla so I was able to dissect what was in the taco. I'd say there was one shrimp diced up in the shrimp taco. The grilled fish had one force is fish...yes ONE small mouthful... probably 1/2" by 1/2"! The cactus also was lacking in substance. All 3 tacos had plenty of filler, but the main part of the taco was a joke. 3 tacos for $12... it's a bit of a rip off... The chips and salsa were excellent thus the reason I'm not giving this review 1 star. read more

Subpar Mexican food at very good prices. Come for a drink, service is good too but food just isn't worth it.

I met a few friends for lunch here on a Friday and Cassie was our server. She was very sweet and friendly and kept on top of our needs without being pushy. I love the chips here - always fresh and hot. One friend is vegetarian and she was impressed with the options she had to choose from. The queso fundido was great. Be sure to enjoy the very last bites of baked on cheese. I have been to several BQ locations in the Valley and I appreciate that everything is consistent, down to the lime sherbet candies as you leave. Upon entering we were seated immediately and greeted by a nice hostess. Our table was a bit small and close to another couple but it was fine as it looked a bit busy. Our server was amazing! She was very attentive to what needed to be filled and taken away. On her "A" game! The food though was just a little under the greatness of the service. I wouldn't consider the birria tacos - "quesobirria". The consommé was very disappointing. It tasted like the juice thats in the crockpot after a roast. No cinnamon or sweet tasting flavors. The beans were okay. I ordered fajitas and forgot to take a picture of them. I got the $32 trio fajitas and it only came with 3 shrimp. The portions of the 3 kinds of meat were small for that price. Overall the service is great but the food isn't. I would recommend some different places especially for the quesobirria. A personal favorite of ours, but it's been a while since we visited. Did not disappoint. We sat outside because this is the time of year when you really should enjoy the patio seating. Birds are singing. Light wind blowing... picture perfect. Kassandra just added to our already pleasant visit. She came by after waiting a a bit for someone to ask for our drink order. She took it upon herself to assist us. We are so thankful. She is funny, attentive and made us feel right at home. Now as for the food... my go to fav are the pastor tacos, SO GOOD!! But today I tried the nachos. So glad I did. Great flavor. Love the melted cheese. And it went well with the salsa. Along side I had the Agua Fresca Pina. I have been to the DR on numerous occasions. Wasn't always a big fan but my wife said let's try it again it's been a couple of years. We arrive at 4:45 ish and it wasn't crazy busy but most of the clientele was outside. Our waiter was doing well until it started to get busy. It appeared that he had all of the tables outside with the exception of a few. He was doing his best but we could tell he was overwhelmed and there wasn't a ton of support. He was doing all of the side work as well. Making the fresh guacamole, filling waters, cleaning tables, the whole nine yards. Meanwhile people were going to the bar to get their drinks while the manager stood at the bar talking and joking with the bartenders. We didn't order apps just a couple of simple dishes and we were there for almost 2 hours. Had a talk with the manager afterwards and she just asked "Who was our waiter?" That wasn't the point. Clearly she had no clue how to manage nor did she really care about our experience as she continued to talk/joke with the bartenders. NEVER AGAIN should have stuck with my gutt!!!!h read more

Staying at the Marriott so wanted someplace close by. This is in the heart of shops and restaurants. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chips and salsa before ordering barrilla tacos and chicken quesadillas. My husband loves these kind of pork tacos for the dipping sauce that comes with them. Delicious! The quesadillas were rolled not flat so unexpected but still delicious! We also enjoyed sangria and beer. It was a Sunday evening so a little slow and we left an hour before live Latin music started. We went in on a Monday evening and sat at the bar. The place was pretty busy and loud. We were given menus, decided what we would order, and we waited. The bartenders were very attentive to the young females but not not us as we are older. Talk about some age discrimination! Finally the bartender took our order for our drinks but not for our food even though we told him we were also ready to order food. He finally took our food order and we both ordered cheese enchiladas. Our drinks were served and tasted very weak. Our food was delivered and was awful. Completely inedible because they used far too much salt. My dining partner scraped the sauce off and tried to eat his enchiladas. Two bites was all I could take. I refused to scrape the sauce off in an effort to make the food edible because I wanted the sauce on the dish. Had I not. I'd have ordered it on the side. We didn't eat the food but the bartender didn't notice or ask. We told him as he was going to remove our full plates of food. He offered to put in another order but I turned it down. I'd had enough bad service, weak drinks and awful food. My dining partner ordered tacos. 20 minutes later still no tacos. We got up to leave as they delivered them. After all that wait, the tacos weren't that great and had hardly any filling. He was so hungry he scarfed them down. We did not enjoy the service, the drinks or the food. There are views of the parking lot or the street from the patio, but there's a tree and string lights and it still creates a nice atmosphere. The decor inside is also really nice. House margaritas and guac (made tableside) were excellent, we ordered a variety of tacos and they were all ok. I'd still give them higher ratings, but the service was not great. I ordered a second margarita before I got my meal, but got it as I was almost finished eating. We asked for the check and waited another 25 minutes after we'd waited awhile and I checked the time. Have tried this place several times to give it a chance. The bar service has always been less than pleasant. I've noticed that men are paid attention to and given good service at the bar, but women are not. Food is very average. The Desert Ridge location is a little disappointing but for the most part the food is flavorful. Customer service is totally hit or miss especially at the bar. The flavor and quality of the food is good but sometimes hot plates are served cold like they've been sitting on an assembly line. For the record, we've been to this location five or six times. Came here with my son on Saturday evening. It was pretty busy but we were seated on the patio immediately. I ordered the Enchiladas Trio Plate and my son had the Azteca Burrito. Our food came out in about 2 minutes which would be fantastic if we were at a fast food place..... or if the food wasn't cold. Flavor was good though and we had tickets to a concert so we didn't say anything. Chips and salsa are complimentary and their salsa is delicious! Slightly chunky, smoky roasted chilies and very fresh. Margaritas are delicious albeit very expensive, small and served with a ton of ice. Expect a large bill. Restrooms were a disaster. Both automatic towel dispensers were broken so rolls were sitting on the counter and wet. Toilet paper roll holders in the stalls were also broken and TP was sitting on toilet. Trash everywhere. Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. read more

I love Barrio queen! It's always a solid choice for a cute dinner date or when a friend is in town. The restaurant itself is very nice and the patio is beautiful if the weather cooperates. I am obsessed with their chips and salsa. Cannot get enough of them. Sometimes I just want a marg and some chips/salsa lol. We've tried a handful of things here and they are always delicious. They have a good amount of vegetarian friendly options. Some favorites are the loaded fries with corn, the corn chowder, the veggie bowl, enchiladas (be sure to try the cactus if you never have!) and the quesadillas. Their quesadillas are these little fluffy bites unlike any other I've had! The drinks are perfection. There's classics like the house margarita (which you definitely can't go wrong with) or other unique offerings if you're feeling like trying something new. The only thing I've tried here that wasn't great was the tres leches cake. I'm not sure why but it was very dissapointing. Overall I highly recommend checking them out if you haven't yet. I recommend arriving early as they can get pretty busy and there's usually a 30 min or so wait on a Friday/Saturday night. read more

For a margarita they fill a small glass with so much ice with hardly anything in its two sips and it is empty pretty pathetic. Hardly any taste for the alcohol and if you add a shot they charge you the same price as for a drink. You end up with $30/drink. We spent $200 and left with an empty feeling! read more

This was my first experience at barrio queen and I'd been wanting to try this place for a while!! We sat down and within 5 minutes, we were brought complimentary chips and water. Since we were waiting for a friend, we enjoyed the chips and salsa before ordering when she arrived. My fiancé and I opted to share the margarita flight which comes with 3 of the margarita options. My favorite was the pepino margarita because it was a classic cucumber margarita with a little bit of a kick with the jalapeño-infused tequila. For my entreé, I ordered the trio enchiladas de mole that comes with beans and zucchini on the side. The three enchiladas are all filled with different cheese or meats and are topped with different mole sauces. All three were different but delicious!!! The mole sauces all had different deep flavors. My fiancé ordered the carne asada burrito which was ginormous and filled with lots of meat. I was able to try a couple bites and the steak was perfectly tender and flavorful. While the price point is a little higher (naturally since we're in Scottsdale), the service and food didn't disappoint! read more

Food was delicious, service was good but the hostess sat us in the bar area on uncomfortable wooden barstools instead of a table and we had already moved once so didn't move again. My legs were so uncomfortable that I couldn't enjoy my meal. My waitress was accommodating and said we could move to a table but that we would have another server. I was so excited about Barrio opening up at Desert Ridge and I realize it has been open for some time now. I am finally getting around to reviewing it. This is our go to for tacos up in the Desert Ridge area. We have tried other items on the menu, such as enchiladas, but it is the mix and match taco menu that has our hearts. My favorites are: Al Pastor, Cochinita Pibil, Huevo con Chorizo, Pescado, and Gringas. You can't go wrong with any of them really! Start off with a Toloache: Tequila, Triple Sec, Blueberry puree - not only is it delicious, but gorgeous to look at! We used to come here often but this is the last time we will be at this location. It's declined so bad! Our waitress took forever - yes we know staffing shortages are an issue but she kept forgetting our stuff and knew she was forgetting. The Queen enchiladas were the worst I've had. This used to be my favorite. The tortillas were so hard. The tamarindo drink was watered down so I had to order a coke. The place is dirty! The walls are dirty and there's flies everywhere! They told us it would be 5 min to get a table because they were cleaning them but that was a lie because our table and seat was dirty. Just sad to see this place go to the ground. Offered to replace but the length of time it took to get the wrong stuff did not inspire confidence that the correct items would be delivered timely, especially when you have a little one with you. This is the second BQ I have visited and the experience was really similar. The building and artwork is beautiful. They definitely spent some money building out these restaurants. The crowd is a very young. The majority of the customers are in the 20-40 year old range so it felt vibrant and energetic. The one issue I have sitting at the bar with young people is the foul language. It does not seem that people in their twenties and thirties can communicate without using the "F" word twice in each sentence. I do not understand the use of such foul language in public. Maybe I am a Fuddy-Duddy, but this has become pervasive in younger circles. Putting that aside, the staff was attentive and friendly. The cocktail options at BQ are numerous but not diverse. Most everything is tequila and mescal based. I tried a Death's Door and found it tasty but really small for the $14 price tag. I watched the bartenders as they made drinks and noticed that all the pours were very small and they had to fill the glasses with copious amounts of ice to make them appear full. My wife enjoyed some tacos and never complained. I had a $13 salad that felt pretty skimpy. See below. I do love the green salsa that comes with the chips. It is unique and addicting.
