Fish Tacos with rice & beans

I really believe that in life, you have to learn to pivot when things don't go your way--and this past Valentine's Day was the perfect example. My boyfriend and I were spending the day with his mom and found ourselves on very long waitlists at two brunch spots. While figuring out our next move, we wandered into Blue Agave--and I'm so glad we did! Since it was close to lunchtime and we still had plans to head out poppy hunting at Bartlett Lake, we needed something quick. I'll admit, I'm usually intimidated at Mexican restaurants because I never know what to order (Asian cuisine is usually my go-to). Thankfully, my boyfriend and his mom both love Mexican food, so I followed his mom's lead and ordered chile relleno for the first time... and WOW!! I discovered a new favorite dish! Let's talk about the food. We were served the usual chips and salsa, and honestly, that alone was delicious. The chips were perfectly crispy, and the salsa was flavorful enough that I could have happily made a meal out of it. The chile relleno, however, completely stole the show. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender and paired beautifully with the roasted pepper, cheese, and rice. I especially loved their rice--it was mild enough to balance the other flavors while still having its own great taste. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos, which were rolled and very tasty as well. He used to eat here often since he works nearby and mentioned they used to offer a taco combos. Now the tacos are à la carte, which is a bit of a bummer. You can still order sides, but having a combo option would be nice. The service at Blue Agave was excellent. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. The restaurant was bustling with people and had a lively, energetic ambiance. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would absolutely recommend this spot. The menu looked impressive, and I'd love to come back to try their margaritas and desserts. I definitely left feeling full and satisfied!l

My boyfriend and I recently visited Blue Agave Mexican Cantina. I was craving Mexican food and wanted to try a place we hadn't been in a while. I remembered Blue Agave. We had visited there years ago and had had a great experience then, so we decided to give it another try. They are located at Scottsdale Road and the 101, in the sprawling shopping center on the opposite side of the road from Whole Foods. We were greeted immediately by the manager and were seated in a booth. The restaurant was quite busy on a Thursday night. The waiter appeared quickly and took our drink orders (water). We took our time checking out the menu. There are some unique items on the menu. We munched in the warm, fresh tortilla chips and medium spice level salsa. I asked the waiter for recommendations and he suggested the Baja Shrimp Pasta dish. It had jalapenos but I asked them to be left off. He advised it still had a medium spice level. Normally, I go for mild, but I gave it a try. The pasta was a huge portion and was indeed quite spicy. I ate half and took half home. I heated it up the next day and added sour cream to it to tone it down, which brought it back to a milder spice level. My boyfriend enjoyed his two shrimp enchiladas, rice, and beans. It was also a generous portion. He ordered both flavors of sauces. We had great service and will definitely be back!

Border Burger (taken after I cut in half)

Stopped in for a Sunday evening meal after a long day. My wife ordered the Baja Shrimp Pasta and I ordered a Border Burger on the rare side. The pasta was a huge portion with a good amount of shrimp. It was very tasty and just the right amount of heat. My burger was cooked perfectly with a nice side of fries. The burger was a good size as well and wound up only eating half since it was later in the evening. We had lots of chips and salsa and a couple drinks. Decent meal and enjoyed the evening. I've been here numerous times and generally always satisfied.

    Quesadilla
    Kristi P.

The menu is a bit overwhelming which typically means they don't have a real specialty and everything is mid. That rang true here. Margarita was meh, think Applebees. The quesadilla I had was cheesy but the meat was tough and lacked any hint of seasoning. The most disappointing thing was that the bartender seemed to think I was going to skip out on my bill. I had to send her back to the kitchen a couple of times for missing items and condiments that came with the quesadilla that was not in my Togo bag and I witnessed her ask the older man ( manager, maybe?) to watch me. Felt very uncomfortable and I hate to assume it was racially motivated since there were others at the bar she engaged with and skipped that direction while they dined. I overtipped in a effort to debunk the stereotype but I will skip this place on my next trip. I travel here for work often.

Delivered carne asada plate. 4.5/5! Great!

4.5/5. Ordered the carne asada plate to go. Steak was juicy and full of flavor. Refried beans were very creamy and delicious. Flour tortillas was soft and warm. The rice had amazing flavor. Combined together on the tortilla was magic. Only tweak is to have some authentic grilled green onions and a side of sour cream. Will order again!

Fajitas were bomb and bf had the chimichanga it was huge and delicious. Margaritas were perfect and dude gave us good deals. Bartender was so nice too! Will be returning:)

Hands down the best Mexican food I've had!!! I ordered the enchiladas and they were absolutely incredible!! packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The service was just as impressive as the food; everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The whole place has such good vibes and super comfortable, lively, and the kind of spot that makes you want to stay a little longer just to soak it in. If you're looking for authentic flavor, amazing service, and an atmosphere that feels both inviting and fun, this is the place to go. I'll definitely be back!

We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the North Scottsdale area and stumbled upon this place. The menu had a great selection and the food didnt disappoint! Chris was our server who was on top of it and never missed a beat!

We found this place from a coupon we got in the mail and it did NOT disappoint! Loved the vibes here and that they were playing March madness and allow dogs on the patio. We loved everything we ordered! I especially enjoyed the elote appetizer and taquitos! My husband loved his fajitas. I can see this spot being a regular for us and not to mention they have a great happy hour! We will be back for sure

Based on how this place is described and marketed, we were expecting an intimate, vintage-feeling evening where we could sit down, have a cocktail, listen to jazz, and enjoy the atmosphere. That was not our experience. There were definitely things we liked. The location was great, the overall theme and decor were beautiful, the lighting created a great atmosphere, and we enjoyed the food and drinks. The service was also very good. However, the entertainment was a huge miss and completely took us out of the experience. We walked in and the band was performing "Genie in a Bottle," followed by other current/recent pop songs, Backstreet Boys songs, and "Creep." The singer was repeatedly screaming into the microphone and encouraging everyone to scream and make noise. At one point, while sitting in what is supposed to be a speakeasy, we were literally listening to him sing "creep" which is one of the most depressing songs of all time. It felt much more like being at a loud dive bar or country bar than an intimate 1920s inspired speakeasy. My biggest issue is that the entertainment did not match the experience being advertised. You can decorate a room beautifully and make it look like the 1920s, but when the soundtrack is "Genie in a Bottle," "Creep," and Backstreet Boys songs being loudly belted into a microphone, the illusion disappears pretty quickly. The noise level also made it difficult to simply sit, have a drink, talk, and enjoy the space. We specifically chose this place because we wanted that relaxed jazz/speakeasy experience, and that simply wasn't what we got. The cocktail selection was another disappointment. For a speakeasy-style bar, I expected a stronger selection of specialty bourbon and whiskey cocktails. The prices also felt excessive for the overall experience. On top of the already-high prices, we paid a $20 entertainment cover ($10 per person) specifically for the band. I wouldn't have minded paying a cover for quality live entertainment that fit the advertised atmosphere, but the artist was not particularly impressive and, more importantly, the music didn't fit the theme at all. There is a lot of potential here. The space itself is beautiful, the service was good, and they nailed many of the visual details. Unfortunately, the entertainment is such a major part of a speakeasy experience that it overshadowed everything else for us. If you're specifically looking for jazz, flapper-era music, and an authentic-feeling 1920s speakeasy atmosphere, I would not recommend this place based on our experience.

It's equally perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Two of us ordered the "Beef Bolognese," and we were both speechless after the first bite. I've had Bolognese at some of the best Italian restaurants, yet this version is in a league of its own. I honestly don't know what Chef Dom Ruggiero does differently, but somehow the sauce has an incredibly special balanced flavor that's impossible to describe until you taste it. It's absolutely sublime. I can honestly say I'll order it every time I come back and recommend it to everyone I know. Our friend ordered the "Crispy Chicken Sandwich" and loved it. The chicken was perfectly breaded, wonderfully crispy on the outside, and incredibly juicy and tender inside. She said it was so good and so were the seasoned fries. My husband chose the "Ibérico Pork Skirt Steak," and every component of the dish worked together brilliantly. The pork was unbelievably tender, and it was served with Japanese sweet potatoes, apples, cashews, sesame seeds, cabbage, and miso. Every ingredient complemented the others beautifully and rested on an outstanding creamy base. It was one of those dishes where each bite makes you tell everyone at the table that they have to taste it. The service was just as impressive as the food--friendly, attentive, and welcoming (from the hostess to the server). Hush Public House has mastered that rare combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and an atmosphere that's warm and comfortable either at the bar or table. If you haven't been yet, go! We ordered a bottle of wine (I mistakenly thought it was 1/2 price wine night but it turns out I can't read my calendar) but it wasn't too expensive, and was a nice start for a meal with a friend I haven't seen in 30 years. We both ordered the Duck Fried Rice - me because it's what everyone told me I needed to do and he ordered it because he's had it several times and loves it. And I love it too now after my first taste. Of note, the portion size isn't huge. I was honestly hungry later in the evening, but otherwise it was the perfect dish. The restaurant is small, and in a strip mall with a tiny sign that is easy to miss. It's nice inside, and I wasn't crowded but there aren't many tables. A bit expensive for the portion size, but it was fantastic and worth it. Highly recommend.
