The chips and salsa were delicious. The salsa was really flavorful, and the chips were thin and not greasy or heavy. We tried some elote, which was yummy. A cheese and bean dip special they had which we really enjoyed. The enchiladas can be customized with different sauces. I really believe that in life, you have to learn to pivot when things don't go your way--and this past Valentine's Day was the perfect example. My boyfriend and I were spending the day with his mom and found ourselves on very long waitlists at two brunch spots. Since it was close to lunchtime and we still had plans to head out poppy hunting at Bartlett Lake, we needed something quick. I'll admit, I'm usually intimidated at Mexican restaurants because I never know what to order (Asian cuisine is usually my go-to). Thankfully, my boyfriend and his mom both love Mexican food, so I followed his mom's lead and ordered chile relleno for the first time... and WOW!! I discovered a new favorite dish! Let's talk about the food. We were served the usual chips and salsa, and honestly, that alone was delicious. The chips were perfectly crispy, and the salsa was flavorful enough that I could have happily made a meal out of it. The chile relleno, however, completely stole the show. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender and paired beautifully with the roasted pepper, cheese, and rice. I especially loved their rice--it was mild enough to balance the other flavors while still having its own great taste. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos, which were rolled and very tasty as well. He used to eat here often since he works nearby and mentioned they used to offer a taco combos. Now the tacos are à la carte, which is a bit of a bummer. You can still order sides, but having a combo option would be nice. The service at Blue Agave was excellent. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. This was our first visit, and we're glad we went. Great service and delicious food, and even the manager came by to see if we needed anything. They provided chips and salsa to start, and the salsa has a wonderful mole flavor. I had their signature chimichanga, and my wife had the chicken and pinto beans burro; big servings with lots of chicken. My frozen margarita was great, and you could taste the tequila! My boyfriend and I recently visited Blue Agave Mexican Cantina. I was craving Mexican food and wanted to try a place we hadn't been in a while. I remembered Blue Agave. We had visited there years ago and had had a great experience then, so we decided to give it another try. They are located at Scottsdale Road and the 101, in the sprawling shopping center on the opposite side of the road from Whole Foods. We were greeted immediately by the manager and were seated in a booth. The restaurant was quite busy on a Thursday night. The waiter appeared quickly and took our drink orders (water). We took our time checking out the menu. There are some unique items on the menu. We munched in the warm, fresh tortilla chips and medium spice level salsa. I asked the waiter for recommendations and he suggested the Baja Shrimp Pasta dish. It had jalapenos but I asked them to be left off. He advised it still had a medium spice level. Normally, I go for mild, but I gave it a try. The pasta was a huge portion and was indeed quite spicy. I ate half and took half home. I heated it up the next day and added sour cream to it to tone it down, which brought it back to a milder spice level. My boyfriend enjoyed his two shrimp enchiladas, rice, and beans. Stopped in for a Sunday evening meal after a long day. My wife ordered the Baja Shrimp Pasta and I ordered a Border Burger on the rare side. The pasta was a huge portion with a good amount of shrimp. It was very tasty and just the right amount of heat. My burger was cooked perfectly with a nice side of fries. The burger was a good size as well and wound up only eating half since it was later in the evening. We had lots of chips and salsa and a couple drinks. Decent meal and enjoyed the evening. The menu is a bit overwhelming which typically means they don't have a real specialty and everything is mid. That rang true here. Margarita was meh, think Applebees. The quesadilla I had was cheesy but the meat was tough and lacked any hint of seasoning. The most disappointing thing was that the bartender seemed to think I was going to skip out on my bill. I had to send her back to the kitchen a couple of times for missing items and condiments that came with the quesadilla that was not in my Togo bag and I witnessed her ask the older man ( manager, maybe?) to watch me. I'm sorry to say that my taco Tuesday dreams were dashed here at the Blue Agave. We searched for a good spot to have some fish tacos, read the reviews, and came early. It's a small spot, in a strip mall setting, but we hoped for the best. The waiter seemed a bit bored and the restaurant was far from busy, although served to be gearing up for a big Cinco de Mayo celebration. We were disappointed to learn that neither the fish tacos nor vegetarian ones were included in the Taco Tuesday special, only chicken, pork, or beef. That was a bummer, but hey we wanted our fish tacos, so we ordered. Meh. Rolled up and cut in half flour tortilla, fish stick, slaw, and a weird sweet sauce on the side for $6.99. I asked for a side of pinto beans and what came was refried and not worth eating. Maybe other items are fantastic. The chips and salsa were good and they didn't charge for them. We found this place from a coupon we got in the mail and it did NOT disappoint! Loved the vibes here and that they were playing March madness and allow dogs on the patio. We were seated immediately by the hostess at a booth for four. The place was pretty noisy, both inside and outside on the patio. Soon we were greeted by our server, Jake. We asked for waters all around and Jake was on it. When he returned with the waters he took our drink order, Margaritas all around. Without writing down anything he was on his way and soon he was back. The margaritas were good. Our food was delivered in good time, 2 ultimate burritos, 1 combo dinner and 1 taco with a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. While we were eating, live music began and the musician was very good. We enjoyed our meals and had plenty to take home. I do think the place could use a bit of deep cleaning. The floor was being swept in the area where we were eating. I assumed that was his closing responsibility. Should that be done while customers are eating? I don't know. I would hope that it also got a vacuuming and a mopping after closing. No longer includes guacamole and no sizzle. They charged me 17.99 plus 2.00 for chicken and 2.50 for a tablespoon of Guacamole. End of the trail for them coming soon if they don't back to normal. Around midnight, I was simply standing in the public view outside the plaza when the bar staff came out with pure hostility and forced me to leave. Soon after, they teamed up with the plaza's aggressive security guard to verbally harass people walking by. This place feels completely unsafe and comes with a 0/10 recommendation. I got myself steak fajitas which I felt was a mistake because I had to spend a lot of time putting it all together because you get the ingredients and tortillas all on separate plates. My food was of above average quality and I only finished 90% of it. The place also comes with complimentary chips and salsa which tasted pretty good. Cocktails cost around $14. Overall, our bill for 5 came out to around $120 which includes tax and tip. Something odd I noticed is that the bill is slightly cheaper if you decide to pay with cash instead of card. read more

Saturday night, fairly early for a Saturday (6 PM), dining on the patio. First off, if you go, ask to sit in Sidney's section. She was hands down one of the best servers we have had for a while. Bubbly, efficient, and totally customer service. She was the cherry on top of our dinner experience! Street corn appetizer was out of this world! We normally never do reviews on restaurants but had to this time. We've been living in the area for 8 years and started coming to this restaurant back in 2019. It was okay for a while because the salsa is good and there used to be a female bartender that made some great spicy margaritas. The service was always okay but not once in 7 years did the manager, we think it's the manner, (a big bald guy) come over and greet us or ask us how our food was. Not once did he say one damn word to us. That was annoying and showed signs of bad management but we still came by at least a couple times a month. About a year ago my wife and I sat down at the same tabletop near the bar that we had been sitting in for years and waited for 10 minutes and no one even acknowledged we were sitting there. They literally walked past us and served other people that arrived after we did. I even tried staring at the manager for a while and some of the servers and no one came to bring us drinks or chips so my wife said let's get the hell out of here we're never coming back. So after a year we were in the area and my wife said should we go by and give them another chance. I said what the hell let's do it. It happened to be their 10th or 20th anniversary I can't remember which one, and it was pretty good. We were greeted by the manager believe it or not that had never even acknowledged us in years past. I think the only reason why he was smiling and being friendly is because he was intoxicated otherwise I would have expected him to be the a$$ he's always been. Which brings us to a few weeks later tonight July 8th 2026. We decided to have dinner at around 7:40 p.m. We sit down at a bar top table right in front of the bar and wait for someone to bring us some chips a menu and ask us if we'd like something to drink. Five minutes goes by and no one even acknowledges were sitting there. The bald guy, which we think is the manager, was sitting on the north side of the bar speaking to a server drinking a big beer. There was a bartender and two to three other servers. Now 10 minutes has gone by and a woman walks in and sits at the bar and the bartender says hey nice to see you and immediately makes her a drink right in front of us. Then another man walks in and sits at the table next to us and the bartender brings him four menus and had two extra menus in his hand and walked them back to the bar and put them away. There is no way he did not see us sitting next to that man. It was like deja vu all over again. Then finally the young man that cleans the tables brought us some chips and salsa. We're thinking maybe we'll get served now. Nope. We just sat there and I said lets give them till 8:00 p.m. and if no one comes to serve us we're leaving. Well apparently it was longer than that because my wife got up grabbed her purse and started walking out and I said where are you going and she said we're leaving and never coming back to this place. On my way out I turned around and looked at the guy that brought us our chips and he shrugged his shoulders and it looked like he mouthed sorry. I said out loud WTF?? That immediately got everyone's attention and I just turned around and walked out. This place sucks and the manager is an a++hole... pardon my French. What pisses us off is the fact that we were loyal customers and always tipped 25 to 30%. Don't waste your time or money at this place. We really wanted Mexican tonight so we drove down the road nearby and went to Carlos O'Brien's where we were treated with respect and attended to immediately and there salsa is way better. We're going to spread this experience everywhere on social media because Blue Agave deserves to be be called out on their horrible treatment of customers and the public should know how poorly run this restaurant is. Food was poorly executed, but tasted okay. Ryan our server was the saving grace here. Ambience was casual, like a Mexican-American Denny's. - use the Yelp offers! Got the dip sampler, shrimp fajitas, and 10 piece wings (half green chili cotija, half Cholula). Free chips and salsa. Chips a little warmed and red salsa was pretty good, a touch salty. Dip sampler came out pretty quickly following the chips and salsa. The guac, bean dip, and queso were pretty tasty. Bean dip and queso were on the saltier end. 20-30 min after ordering, our shrimp fajitas came out. Pretty good portions of shrimp and fajitas for $20. Shrimp a bit dry and had a strong lemon pepper seasoning that reminded me of BWW's dry lemon pepper rub. 30-40 min after ordering, our chicken wings came out. First tried the green chili cotija and it was too pungent for me, reminded me of musty body odor, room temp/colder wings. Wife didn't get that BO sense and flavor was okay. For the cholula wings though, the wings were cold, not crispy, and the sauce was warm which makes me think that the wings were microwaved to be warm then sauce was placed over. The stroller is cleaner and safer than having them on the floor for us and for the restaurant. They were also in position to keep eye contact with him, which they need to do to be able to do their job. The big bald manager barked at us right when I walked in, already with an attitude, and said the dogs "NEED to be on the floor." That's simply NOT true, and anyone who understands ADA or even basic common sense knows this. I also politely said that isn't the law, but that I could leave if that was a problem. His answer? "That's fine." No respect, no care, no acknowledgment that we've supported this business for decades. Just rudeness. This is not just about pets. I recently went to Blue Agave for a weeknight dinner with a couple of friends and thought it was fine. The prices were OK and the ambiance is a sports bar with some Mexican themes. Our service left some things to be desired-our server took a long time to come back to take our orders for our main dishes and a couple of our appetizers took a while to come. In addition to the much-appreciated free chips and salsa, my friends and I split the guacamole and nachos. The guacamole was delicious-rich and creamy with whole tomato chunks. The nachos were OK, but they could have used more chips and less sour cream. For my main, I got the chilaquiles with chicken instead of pork. The portion size was excellent and with the other food, I couldn't finish it even though it was delicious-the chicken was well-cooked and seasoned, and there was a good amount of guacamole on the side. read more
