We enjoy going to Barrio Queen. It has a vibrant atmosphere with fun decor and a large outdoor patio. One of my go-to drinks is the jalapeño margarita, which has just the right balance of spice. On our last visit, I ordered the 3 taco plate with grilled shrimp, grilled fish, and beer-battered fish, each one was delicious. I've also had the Queen enchiladas with shrimp, which are both filling and packed with flavor. Another favorite is the protein bowl (I swap in shrimp instead of chicken), which is a lighter but still satisfying option. And you can't go wrong with the tableside guacamole! Overall, Barrio Queen is a great choice for Mexican food and fun atmosphere! read more

We met friends there while visiting the valley and had a good meal. The good: Excellent house margarita Chips and Salsa are some of the best I've ever had. Chips taste freshly made. Birria taco was excellent. The not so good: Surf & Turf taco did not taste like surf or turf. I believe they're using talapia or some other lousy fish instead of shrimp. Happy hour margarita was terrible and had way too much artificial flavor, even the strawberry was fake. Bartender gave me a lousy basket of broken chips and the $5 taquitos had literally no flavor. Good southwest eatery, lots of options, and tasty drinks. On a pre-game drop in, and coming off a nice nap, we tried Barrio Queen. A very nice catrina themed Mexican restaurant. It was just before lunch, but the place wasn't too busy, and we were seated promptly by the host. Our server, Valentina V. (Tina), was quick to present us with menus, chips and (tasty) salsa, and take out orders. She was on it - makes a mean guac. I wanted to try their tacos, and Liz did try two shrimp tacos that looked really good. Noemi enjoyed her kids chicken quesadilla, nothing too complicated there. Noah tried the Tamale Duo. The tamale duo came with one chicken in red sauce tamale, and one green chile pork tamale with rice and beans. He put a good dent in it for sure, meaning he really liked it. I enjoyed my birria enchiladas plate. The cheese and birria enchiladas were covered in green chile. It was pretty good, and I didn't leave anybody any bites. Tina checked on us throughout the meal, and make sure to take care of us during our time there. We left full and happy. Our first time and I was really hoping we would love it- my husband Loves Mexican food!! Unfortunately, it was a lackluster experience. The weather was nice and scene was pretty. -Chips and salsa are amazing! -Great iced tea options. -Menu is huge and full of options. -I added shrimp as an extra Add-on to my salad and was sad to see I only like 4 shrimp. - next time I will go back to my regular order of posole, the salad was not worth the spend. This was a lovely, solid Mexican food joint! Ambiance is great when you walk in - lots of indoor and outdoor seating options with themed decor and a couple of tv's near the bar for sports viewing. We were seated after a thirty minute wait (dinner rush on Friday night) but attended to promptly. The free chips and salsa are bomb. Salsa is delicious and the chips feel lighter than most tortilla chips. They have a good variety of drinks and Mexican food on their menu. I ordered three tacos for $5.50 each (birria, tacos de tinga, and carne asada) and my boyfriend ordered the birria enchiladas. My favorite tacos were definitely the birria - very juicy and soupy, but the other tacos were flavorful and not bad. The carne asada tacos were very chewy. My boyfriend also enjoyed his birria enchiladas. It was a big enough serving that he was able to take some home in a box. Overall, a great pick in Desert Ridge. Went to Barrio Queen last night for Dinner/ Happy Hour and wow were we impressed! First of all the ambiance was incredible the moment you walked in the door from the hand painted murals to the beautiful decor. Samantha was our server and she gave us a fast service we had our two-year-old daughter with us and she immediately put in her kids meal, which also showed up promptly sometimes servers can give you attitude when you bring your kid with you and Samantha wasn't like that at all in fact, she was very attentive to our daughter speaking kindly with her. We were very impressed with her service. Free chips and salsa is always a win in my book My husband and I had a couple drinks on the happy hour menu. I tried a margarita and the red sangria. Both were excellent although the red sangria was very sweet so if you're not a tequila person, I would definitely get this. If you are a tequila person, though they have an excellent selection here. For food we tried the happy hour taquitos (flautas) and they were so delicious. You get two rolled tacos cut in half so it's four pieces for five dollars. For our main meals, my husband got the Birria enchiladas, and I got the vegetarian Chillie Reno. Both were excellent honestly we can't wait to come back and try more of the menu and we will definitely be asking to be seated with Samantha again! read more

My overall feelings about Barrio Queen is that there are some things to like and some things not to like. Overall, it's a pleasant experience, but it leaves a little to be desired. I've checked out this trendy Mexican joint twice: both on weekdays. Located in Desert Ridge Marketplace, parking won't be an issue. Ambiance (4.5/5): This is one of the areas where Barrio Queen shines. It's a large restaurant with a spacious patio, a bar that's partially outside and inside, and plenty of seating indoors. There are both tables and booths. The decor is really cool too, with a decent amount of Dia de Los Muertos stuff. Service (3/5): On one visit, I sat at a table. On the other visit, I sat at the bar. Service both times has been friendly, but a bit slow. And a pet peeve: on my most recent visit, I stopped by on a Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The restaurant was busy and I was told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. Before going to the bar, which is first come, first served, I went to the restroom. While I was walking there, I noticed that several tables were open. It doesn't seem like they were reserved. Why give a wait time when you have open tables? Drinks (4.5/5): Another area where Barrio Queen shines. They have a creative list of craft cocktails, many of which have Mexican ingredients. So we're talking a heavy focus on tequila, mezcal, jalapeno, and more. They also have seasonal offerings. On my most recent visit, I tried one of the seasonal cocktails that had activated charcoal in it. This was my first time drinking a black cocktail. So cool! They also have a solid happy hour with discounts off of both drinks and food. Food (3/5): On my first visit, I did the pick three tacos (love the variety) and some elote. On my second visit, I did the combination fajitas (chicken, beef, and shrimp). Fajitas are one of my go-tos at Mexican restaurants and I was happy that they are an all-day special on Thursdays (with a nice discount). This sizzling platter of meat is served with grilled veggies, rice, beans, green salsa, and warm tortillas. First, the good. The tortillas are warm and fresh. They are relatively small, and they only give you three of them, so I had to ask for more. The shrimp was perfectly grilled and a good size. The chicken and beef, on the other hand, were underwhelming. The meat was dry and poorly seasoned. Overall, some of the most mediocre fajitas I've had. And I know a thing or two about fajitas because I'm from Houston, where they were invented. Maybe I just visited on an off night. Given the ambiance, Barrio Queen makes for a nice date spot. The drinks are on point, but the food menu can be a hit or a miss. read more

This was my first visit to the Desert Ridge Barrio Queen. This location is huge with a large patio out front - great ambiance throughout the restaurant. I wanted something small-ish so I ordered the Grilled Quesadillas ($9) with chicken added for an additional $6. I liked the unique presentation: they almost look like three small, rolled up burritos. It makes them easy to eat and dip in the accompanying crema and salsa they give you. (I swapped out avocado crema for regular crema.) It's a little expensive for what you get but that seems to be the case at most restaurants these days. I was meeting a friend - the chip bowl stayed full and the food tasted good so it made for a nice place to have lunch. read more

We love to come for the happy hour! Our favorites are the elote ribs and nachitos! We have had Ricardo serve us a couple times and he is incredible! Seriously, best server we've had in all of Arizona! He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, extremely attentive, and even takes time to connect with the kids! Been to Barrio Queen several times. Ordered from them on ubereats too. This location is pretty huge, can seat a lot of people and has outdoor patio as well. Love seating out on the patio during the cooler months. Came here for dinner with a huge party, 13+ people and the service was good. The server was attentive, food and drinks came out shortly after ordering. We did have to ask for refills on chips and salsa. My go to are the street tacos and my favorite is the quesabirria tacos with consome. However, this time around the tacos came out not as hot. Probably because we had a huge group. We also ordered the classic gauc and the queso dip. For dessert, we ordered the churros and those came out hot and fresh. read more

For our annual Teamsgiving, we decided to switch things up with Mexican food and picked Barrio Queen, thanks to everyone vouching for it. We went on a Wednesday for lunch, and the outdoor seating was perfect, shaded, cozy, and giving us a lovely backyard vibe. Except for a few flies, everything else was spot on. Service was fast and exceptional. They started us off with freshly made nachos and salsa, which were pretty good. For appetizers, we tried the Mexican street corn topped with cheese, tahini, and chipotle sauce, honestly, it was really good. For the main course, I chose a trio of tacos: shrimp, battered fish, and chicken. The plate was super colorful, and the shrimp taco was definitely the standout. The chicken taco, however, wasn't as impressive. The pricing is slightly on the higher side, but an occasional indulgence doesn't hurt. Overall, it was a great Teamsgiving experience! read more

The food was really good however I only liked 2/3 tacos I got but the 2 I did like were phenomenal! Sat on the patio in the shade. Great weather and they turned off the misters as soon as it got cooler. The patio is nice with large bulb lighting on the side and a nice tree in the middle. Ricardo our server was extremely friendly, probably came to the table eight times from start to finish checking on us and each time chatted for a bit. The chips were the old thick style, too heavy for me, although tasty. The standard salsa is very mild and then the habanero one is way too spicy. They need a Goldilocks version! The Molcajete Mixto was an enormous portion chock full of everything! Grilled shrimp, chicken, steak, panela cheese planks, cactus, sweet peppers, rice and beans. More than enough for two! We asked if I could get pork chile verde on my salad and they said yes! The pork was flavorful and it went well with the black beans, sautéed peppers and lettuce. The Paloma Hibiscus drink was well balanced and not too sweet. The BlackBerry mule was very strong and the peach drink was actually frozen but didn't state that on the menu. The jalapeño Margarita was not spicy or flavorful enough the first round and we asked for more heavy handed muddling and the second was much tastier! The caramel filled churros were very rich!although I didn't care for the cinnamon flavor in the thick caramel drizzle as it was grainy. The menu is very extensive, almost too big! Pretty decent happy hour! Cheap drinks and okay food. The elote was definitely the best thing we ordered and the chips and salsa were also tasty. The tacos were not good. The shrimp taco had 2 small shrimps on it - and it was full price, it wasn't part of the hh menu so I guess that's just what you get. The carne asada and pibil tacos lacked flavor. Super meh overall. Service was average. Would definitely come back for cheap margs and chips and salsa if I was at Desert Ridge for hh, but I'd get dinner elsewhere. read more

The Bario Queen is just another Mexican Food chain restaurant. The food and service are a hit or miss depending on how busy it is and who is working, which also goes with the overall cleanliness of the seating areas too. The inconsistency, quality, and experience have made this place slowly fade off my go-to list over the years. read more

Lovely Mexican restaurant in Desert Ridge. I got the mole enchiladas and they were fantastic. The waitstaff was so friendly and food was served up fast. there is indoor and outdoor seating, and the bar window is open to the outside so you get some fresh air even inside. Unfortunately that makes birds occasionally fly in but oh well, they fly away soon. The mole sauce was so flavorful, the cheese and chicken so flavorful, truly spectacular Mexican food. I love it! Getting out of the parking lot and turning left on Tatum or straight on Rose Garden to the business park and hotels is a bit of a mess, that's the only downside. read more

My mom and I decided to get out of the house for dinner and decided on Barrio Queen. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few apps and cocktails. The bartenders were so nice (I wish I wrote down their names)! Super attentive without being over the top. You know the rules ~ chips and salsa first and then order the rest. They had college basketball on but were quick to change to the Suns game per a guest request. The music was nice but not too loud. Everything looked super clean and tidy too. The food came out almost as quickly as the cocktails. We shared the street corn appetizer, shrimp cocktail, and half order of Chile Verde nachos. I got the pinarita and my mom got the skinny margarita. Both were delish! I recommend all 3 apps that we ordered. We almost finished everything (we were hungry) and took a small bit home. As we left the restaurant a server was walking up from the patio and thanked us for coming in. I know it seems trivial but I've experienced some less than friendly servers in establishments recently so I just wanted to point out everyone we encountered was super friendly! Barrio Queen has a really good happy hour which includes street tacos 2 for $5. On Tuesday all their street tacos are 2 for the price of 1. The regular menu street tacos are especially good because they include vegetables which give the tacos a variety of textures and flavors. There's a different menu for happy hour which seems to be just meat and sauce. Those are good, too, and a bargain at 2 for $5. There's a nice number of happy hour drink specials including $5 Margaritas. We Sat at the bar where the service was terrific and the conversation was lively. On a tip from a Lyft-er, we found our way to Barrio Queen for an authentic lunch bite and we were not disappointed! First, the cool air conditioning and the spacious, bright interior that screams Mexico. First, we got the chips and Barrio Guacamole, prepared tableside. Wow, the pomegranates in the guac really add some brightness, and the chips were thick and crispy. I ordered two tacos - the Pescado Asado and Camaron Asado along with a side of rice and black beans. These were two of the best tacos I've ever had! Fresh and flavorful, perfectly cooked and seasoned. One bite of taco, one bite of rice, and one bite of beans, another chip with guac, repeat, and then my plate was empty and my belly was full. Personally I love this place. They have great happy hour specials, the food is tasty and the staff is always friendly. Their margaritas are delicious and if you're not the mood for anything with alcohol, than you have to try their horchata! They usually have fun seasonal events too that are always worth stopping in for! It tends to be a bit loud on the inside unless you come on an off day/hour but nothing terrible. The video is pretty good since it is slow cooked and it is not too fatty, but it is quite savory as it has a lot of sauce in it. I would recommend getting the Aztec enchiladas. In general, the portion sizes are huge for what you pay for. In addition the steak nachos is pretty generous on the steak. I was not wowed by the churros, but they are a good sweet treat. The decor is so cute. The restaurant gives off traditional Mexican celebration and dia de los Muertos vibes. I love the cups at the front--at this time, they are probably $12, and they make good gifts! Overall, very cute. Service staff was standard but they work efficiently as there are a good amount of people at the restaurant on a Thursday night. read more
