We've been waiting for this restaurant to open for weeks and went in today for lunch and happy hour, needless to say it was well worth the wait. We got multiple drinks which included a sangria, the house margarita and at $25 margarita that I don't recall the name of. Our bartender Anthony was fantastic our drinks were delicious, and he explained the day of the dead theme of the restaurant. For food we got their pomegranate guacamole and Anthony even made it for us on the side of the bar, we then got some of the happy hour food which was all again delicious. We will be back every week and very excited for their day of the dead party. I highly recommend eating here for can be considered pricy however the flavors match the price and make sure to eat at the bar! read more

Friendly and well mannered host. Food was great along with the horchata but our server Rebecca C's service was terrible and didn't make connection with customers(us). Our server only stopped twice to check up on us during our visit there. Once at the beginning to take our food order and towards the end. During the whole time there , my wife and I asked for a refill and we didn't get it until 20 minutes after we had asked and already finished with our food. Not to mention it was not busy either, but still our server attended other tables more than us. Very mediocre. The decor is great but this place lacks flavor. The food is Americanized. The salsa for the chips was very bland. I'm not sure what I ate did not taste like albondiga soup and my husband said the chorizo taco was too much with the egg on top. Done it once not memorable. Won't be back read more

Please, somebody, get this place a manager! 4 hostesses that seem to do the work equivalent of 2...tons of people standing in the small entry (no chairs, waiting times over 20 minutes)...empty and available tables!! They seem to be at a loss... especially on how to put a curtain on a window to keep the Western sun from pouring in and heating up customers! Come on man! Food was the saviour for this slow paced restaurant ( not always a bad thing). Drinks came quickly as did water/chips/salsa. Very tastey and high quality ingredients, alot of yummy options. Dessert was great too. So we would go back, but maybe by pass the massive front staff and grab a seat at one of the bars read more

Big Meh for me. We are visiting Scottsdale with a dog so ordered food to take back to hotel. Order took at least 10 minutes longer than we were told which is OK..but I had to remind them to provide the drink we ordered and then got to hotel with NO tortillas for the entree and the Fondida. The cheese dip was a big glob and entrees were bland. We ordered the corn appetizer and guess what? It tastes like an ear of corn. Nothing special there ..none of the amazing street corn flavors were present I swear they forgot the sauce. They got a good tip from our prepaid order but unfortunately we will not return during our two weeks here. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Scottsdale I suggest you try something else. I was contemplating between a 4 and a 5 rating as I rarely give out 5 stars right off the bat, but their food did it for me. I tend to not be a fan of gourmet taco restaurants, as any one from Mexico will tell you, Mexican food is cheap, it's just how it is, you shouldn't pay a lot of money for any of it, especially if it is really authentic. Barrio Queen's prices are similar to most other of these fancy type Mexican restaurants but their food is FAR better. At most places, I feel like I'm getting ripped off when I pay $3 or more for a taco. But wow, at Barrio Queen, I was actually impressed (hard to impress me at a place like this if you haven't caught on). I will definitely be going back. I ordered 3 different kinds, beef, brisket, and a chicken one with a side of rice and they were all amazing. I will definitely be going back and bringing others with me. As far as the location goes, you can't beat Desert Ridge, the waitstaff was friendly and the food came promptly. Inside was comfortable although I have to say it was the perfect temperature outside so the doors were wide open so that was a plus. Really disappointed in our visit to this Desert Ridge Barrio Queen Location. Ordered the carne asada salad and it arrived with the middle section of meat raw. The server took one look and apologized profusely. She said she would have it remade quickly. She also said she would immediately have the manager Nate come speak with us and he would take care of us. I told my husband to eat his meal as it would have been cold if he waited. It took double the time to get the reheated salad back. Ridiculous! He was finished with his meal before the manager came over with my salad. They just reheated the meat and put it back on the same lettuce as the raw meat was on. No apology at all from Nate. He just put the salad in front if me and said here is your salad, and he did nothing to make up for our ruined lunch out. We tipped the waitress nicely as it wasn't her fault. Barrio Queen you need better management. We will certainly not revisit this location. read more

Finally after a couple of attempts we were able to go to this relatively new place in our neighborhood. This place has a really nice atmosphere complete with a large bar, lounge area and even a table with a fire pit, which actually seems a bit misplaced in the back corner outdoors directly across from the Barnes and Noble entrance. We arrived with a 45 minute wait so sat in the lounge area. We ordered drinks within about 5 minutes but did not receive them until we got to our table about 20-25 minutes later. I understand he wait but to me 20-25 minutes on a beer and sangria is a little long. Finally the food. We ordered. I had the pizole which was flavorful but bland all at once. It certainly needs more spice/peppers . My wife had the 3 taco dinner with cod, chicken and brisket. These were all excellent. The lack of sides is a little odd so no rice, refried or black beans. This was a fairly small sample but enough to let us know it meets the mark in terms of nice atmosphere but not so much in terms of the food. Tacos were solid but nothing to write home about and the pizole was very low spice level. At many Mexican and Mexican themed restaurants they bring sides such as dried peppers, radish, cabbage, lime... none of that here. I wish I could give 2.5 stars but since I cannot I will round up. read more

He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we need and to make sure we were having a good time. Great personality, and fun conversations. Obsessed with Barrio Queen. The food is so unique and delicious. I always come here when I travel to Phoenix to visit my customers and it never fails to be satisfying and delicious. I have had great service consistently here, as well. The chips and salsa were ehhhh overall I feel the food was very bland and generic for Mexican food. I was disappointed with the steak enchiladas and black beans. Just not the rich flavorful food I expect from Mexican food. It was like "white washed mexican food". I will probably go back and try something else. The food is good and we've liked other locations but the service by multiple people was not great. We sat outside in 100+ degree temps and didn't get water for about 20 mins. Ordered drinks were only partially served as my husband got his drink 15 mins after everyone else. Our guac appetizer came after our meals and they messed up on our food orders. A little bit of a bummer for my 30th bday dinner. Food was good tho. Side note- very minor but, a server opened the door to walk in while my friend and I were walking out to the patio and walked in right past us blocking us as we were walking out, like we inconvenienced her or didn't exist. Came here because of all the reviews. Food was mediocre. Carne asada was very dry. Service was one the worst. They sat us by the bathroom and waitress was MIA. At least the Salsa that came with the chips was good. My fish was probably the best item we had. So disappointed. read more
