My sister and I had a truly fantastic lunch at Barrio Queen yesterday! Our server David was brilliant and attentive. Our beverages were delicious and my frozen Strawberry Limonada was not only perfectly blended but it was served in a gorgeous glass with a preciously ripe strawberry on the rim. The Carne Asada Taco Trio I ordered was next level after adding the egg on top. The chunks of meat were cooked beautifully-melt in your mouth. Along with avocado slices, diced red onions and cilantro these tacos were an absolutely perfect combination! My sister had the Birra Chimi Chingonas from the Winter menu. They were lightly fried and full of goodness; beef, cheese, lettuce,pico,avocado crema! I would definitely order them if I could get past the tacos! Our server David checked on us often and was kind enough to take our picture. We loved the patio dining. We were both impressed that every bite and sip we had was so good! Finally got to check out the new Barrio Queen in Surprise. I've been to the one in Glendale several times, which is a bit bigger but the ambiance at the Surprise location is really bright and welcoming. Especially when they have the sliding doors open for an indoor/outdoor space. If you haven't been during Happy Hour, you're missing out. They have awesome specials on drinks and food, like the $5 margaritas!! I had the Barrio marg and it was perfect, not too sweet or sour (they use fresh lime juice). Although it's not on the happy hour menu, we had to get the table side guac- I love the pop of pomegranate seeds, nice touch! We also got the elote dip, because why not? From the HH menu, we had potato empanadas and two of each of the tacos- carnitas, pollo and suadero. 2 for $5, can't beat that!! Make sure to get extra salsa (or hot salsa if that's your jam), a must have for the tacos. Overall, service was great and food was awesome!! First time coming here. I first want to start off by saying our bartender David was absolutely amazing. He was busting his ass all night and still managed to be attentive. He alone made our visit a great experience. We bypassed the wait because the bar is open seating (hence meeting David). David made me a mango margarita that wasn't on the menu because none of the drinks were really sticking out to me.. I don't usually like margaritas so I don't think my opinion counts. My boyfriend ordered the chingonarita, it comes with a mini corona. He loved it. For food, I ordered 3 quesabirria tacos with no red onion (just my preference). I ordered a side of rice and chorizo beans since the tacos didn't come with a side. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and steak fajitas and it came with a couple flour tortillas, rice and charro beans. He's not a bean fan so his opinion doesn't count. My tacos were small street tacos and they only had one corn tortilla each. They skimped me on the meat pretty bad. The taste of the taco was delicious though. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The consome on the side was also flavorful. I just wish they added more meat and two corn tortillas rather than one. The rice had a mild flavor but it was good. The beans were okay as well. I would order all of this again. My boyfriend said the fajitas were good. Overall, for the prices they have, they shouldn't be cutting corners on the amount of food you receive. Walked in with no wait for outdoor. There were plenty of heaters so it was comfortable even with a small breeze. Our waitress was very sweet but took a while to start us off with drinks and wasn't as atte rice to our table the whole time. We ordered the queso fundido (sorry no pic). Was good but wasn't as cheesy as I'd like. Only brought out three tortillas which i feel could've been given more. 6/10 My husband ordered the Carne Asada entree and i got the Carne asada torta. The refried beens were terrible and had a very weird color. Rice was a bit dry and lacked seasoning. Only got two tortillas. The carne asada was good and tender but too salty. The torta was good. Felt like it didn't have much carne asada but was decent. Kind of dry because they didn't add much mayo and only gave me one or two slices of avocado which disappointed me. The fries were overly seasoned but the ones that weren't were very good. Had a strawberry margarita which was very good but very sweet so be prepared. This is Barrio Queen Prasada. We are huge fans of the other locations. We went on this past Saturday ... NO HAPPY HOUR, small print, it's only at other locations. OK , on us for not reading thoroughly. We ordered quesadillas.... OMG, 3 rolled up tortillas with cheese and shrimp... ROLLED UP, size of a cigar... no sauce, no other ingredients! Puny and I've never seen a quesadilla rolled up like that! Manager said that was a "grilled" quesadilla... we didn't order a "grilled" quesadilla! Plus, it was pathetic! He then went to kitchen. Returned with a tortilla cut in quarters filled with a bit of cheese and shrimp with the cabbage, tomatoes and onion sprinkled on top... said he fixed it himself! He should not ever double as a chef! I didn't eat mine, it was dry and very unappetizing. I'd ordered a second glass of wine... I ended up after 30 mins if no wine going to the bar to pick up my own wine. Hardly anyone in the place while the restaurant next door was packed , now I know why! Never going back.. expensive then went away hungry! read more

This was my first time visiting this chain. A new location just opened up in Surprise right near me. I was excited to try it but nervous due to some negative reviews. We went on a busy Friday night. I don't think they take reservations. It was super busy. They had plenty of open tables outside but it was too hot! We were told it was going to be 45 minutes wait but it was much less than that. We sat inside and even though it was super busy, the service was fast and friendly. Our food and drinks came out quickly, our servers were great! Food was delicious. Recently visited here with my family for lunch and while the servers and staff were very nice there seemed to be an overall lack of communication. It wasn't overly busy but we waited a long time to be greeted at our table and throughout the entire meal we were asked the same questions (orders, drink refills, etc) by 3 separate servers that I wasn't sure who our server even was. I did like the appetizer trio! My tacos were ok at first but there was an excessive amount of oil pooled on my plate that I couldn't finish them. My husband didn't really have any complaints about his plate though. I would come back for another chance but didn't feel like it was particularly special. Thought we would give it a try. The atmosphere was pretty nice with some good tunes playing. It was not overly busy, but there was a wait to be seated. My wife and I decided to just sit at the bar. The bad: We were battling flies. No windows were open, just a lot of flies. Service was slow. We never even received our chips and salsa. We ordered an app, and they brought it out with our meals. I'm not too happy about that. The good: The tacos were pretty good, and I had the quesobirria tacos. Would highly recommend. Nachos were meh. My wife enjoyed her shrimp cocktail, but it needed tapatio. Overall, I needed better service and a cleaner environment. The bar was dirty, and the head chef had to come out and clean it himself. Horrible service. We have been to Barrio Queen in Avondale several times and were excited to take guests to the Barrio Queen in Surprise. We had the absolute worst service. The waitress was slow, seemed confused and truly did not care about our experience. The meal was over before our second round of drinks arrived. We sat and watched the bartender chit chat with the staff instead of making drinks. The restaurant was basically empty - and I know why! We complained to the "manager" who said our waitress had been in a few car accidents and we were making the problem worse for her with OUR attitude. Unbelievable. I've been to different locations and by far this was the worst food I've ever eaten! The empanadas are small corn tortillas flattened and deep fried. Not the pastry they are suppose to be. Salsa was flavorless. The "Happy Hour" tacos are raw corn tortillas. I'm not sure what I ate there...as it was my only meal for the day, but the FOOD Poisoning that resulted was bad. Love this location! Dominic is the best bartender. I feel like he is warm, attentive, polite, and hardworking. Every time I've come in, he's been in a good mood And makes me feel like he actually enjoys his job, by his attitude. I have been so fortunate to come in during his shifts weekly. Honestly, If he's ever not at the bar, I will Opt for a table instead. He just makes the experience at the bar so much more pleasant with his hospitality. Barrio Queen offers a relaxing environment, varied menu options, and excellent service for your dining experience. The menu at Barrio Queen has something to satisfy everyone's appetite. I really enjoyed the tableside chips/guacamole that is made to your requested level of spicyness. The guacamole is combined with pomegranate seeds for a uniquely different taste. On this visit we shared 2 different tacos carnitas, carne asada and the Barrio Pollo burrito. All our entries were very good, the meat/chicken was moist and flavorful with just the right amount of spice and everything was made to order and served hot. Stopped here on a Saturday to have lunch with my in-laws. The food was pretty good and I really like the chips and salsa that they served in the beginning. The decor and the restaurant itself is extremely beautiful, but the doors were left open so there was the occasional fly buzzing around, but it wasn't too bad. The server was OK. It started filling up right after we got there. We had to ask to have our waters refilled, but our waitress was pretty nice, but she seemed pretty busy. For the first time visiting a Barrio Queen I didn't know what to expect as I have heard mixed reviews based on other locations. I was overall pleased with the causal ambiance and open floor plan that allows fresh air to come into the bar area on a nice day. Happy hour specials are at an excellent price point but the apps available on that menu aren't the largest portions around. My wife got the HH flatuas and only 2 were included with that. The short rib birria tacos had amazing flavor with every bite and were my personal favorite when compared to the carnitas tacos. The reason this review gets 4 stars is because the beer selections available at the time were very underwhelming. They have 10 taps at this particular location and only 5 or 6 of those were actually on tap and the remaining were out. Hope that can get resolved for future visits because I would like to include this place in my HH rotation. read more

I ordered the Barrio Bowl and it was decent but I don't think it deserved the price I was charged for it. The fajitas my mom ordered were SALTY. She is the type that hates speaking up / sending things back. I didn't realize how inedible they truly were until I took her leftovers home. I really wish she would have told me / someone while we were there. Very unfortunate. I placed an order for pick up on 3/30/2024. At 8:04 PM, we picked up our $70 order to take it home, only to find that nothing was correct. First, I ordered a Carne Asada burrito, only to find I was given a BEAN AND CHEESE burrito. Secondly, all the sides were cold. Third, my husband ordered carne tacos to find they were NOTHING like the tacos he ordered from another location. Less meat, smaller quantities of everything.
