This is a happy, small, family owned nugget that it tucked away next to my favorite nail salon. I was truly brought in by the delicious aroma of authentic Mexican food. I legit got into my car & decided the aroma was too powerful, I must check it out. Being hungry also fueled that decision. I ordered the carne asada cheese crisp and two crispy/fried chicken tacos. I wasn't certain what to expect with the carne asada cheese crisp but found it to be a very large tortilla with melted cheese & sprinkled with carne asada. Not my favorite BUT the carne asada was stupid delicious. Oh my brain and stomach were so so so so happy. Yum! Literally could have just eaten the carne asada by itself & been happy. It was tender & flavorful. Chicken tacos. I didn't love getting lettuce on it when I said no lettuce but it was an easy enough fix. The tortilla was amazing. The chicken was bursting with flavor and depth. The chicken was still moist and didn't need salsa but I added some anyways just to try it out. I was not disappointed. This place is legit. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. Also recommended for anyone wanting to support a small business which is family owned. Prices were reasonable. Great little place! The service was very good. They have some lunch specials for 9.99 and I got one of those and I was very impressed with it. It was a taco and enchilada. It was a large quantity, especially for a lunch portion. I had to take some home. My husband got the burrito covered in sauce. He really enjoyed it. I love how they serve their chips hot and my favorite thing was that they do happy hour and have $1.50 margaritas all day on Wednesday. Can't beat that! The salsa was also excellent as well as the hot sauce. The prices were all reasonable as well. I am so happy I found this place. But I still took a chance because of all the (promising) 5-star reviews sprinkled throughout. $18 plus tip later, here's a breakdown of what I got. (free) Chips & Hot Salsa: The chips were fresh & hot, with oil oozing through the paper bag. The hot salsa was delicious. Mild salsa is available too. Chicken Enchiladas Plate with Beans & Rice: At first bite, I could taste it was salted with a bit of a heavy hand. Not the kind where the food becomes inedible but just saltier than it needed to be. The rice was ok. The beans were alright. If you're hungry and trying to scarf down some Mexican food to fill a craving, this will be fine. But you'll be left feeling like it wasn't worth it. Horchata: Skip it. It's way too sugary. The way it was sweetened overpowered the delicious, creamy, refreshing taste of horchata. It was as if they followed a lemonade recipe where 1/3 of it is sugar. Heads up, check your to-go bag for utensils & napkins before you leave. My to-go order didn't have them. Would I return? We went to Lupita's Mexican Food this morning. This is my FAVORITE Mexican food restaurant and I do not say that lightly. It is SO GOOD. I look forward to the moment I can eat it, crave it, think about it all week. The enchiladas there are superb. My plate is the one with the rice and beans and two shredded beef enchiladas. My husband got the plate with no rice and beans, just three enchiladas and then a fried egg on top that he added. The food is ALWAYS good here, and the service is outstanding. They are often busy, especially on the weekends and despite being short staffed (there is a help wanted sign on the door), the food always comes out quickly, hot and delicious and the employees are always kind and professional and go above and beyond to make sure we are taken care of. They do have a dining area, but we usually just get take out. Our meals always come with chips and salsa and the salsa is THE BEST. I highly recommend checking this place out. Lupita's lunch specials from Mondays - Fridays are the tastiest and biggest portions we've had since we left CA. My favorite is combination #1 with beef enchilada and crunchy tacos. It's the only restaurant I know of in Surprise AZ that has freshly baked crunchy taco shell that is scorching hot. The beef are cooked to perfect tenderness. My friends love their tamales and stirred fried veggies dish. The CA burrito was not good, however. It's just all over cooked super dry chicken, with sour cream & guacamole on the side. Very bland. But the service is always quick & friendly. The ambiance is your typical mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurant. We've been back twice this month already for the lunch specials! read more

First time at Lupita's for my wife and I and we were delighted. Cafe style decor, simple and modest with hand painted wall murals. Margaritas were very tasty and only $5.95. Mondays and Wednesdays they are only $1.50! All day! My wife had a cheese enchilada and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. I went with the 3 shrimp enchiladas plate with the green sauce. Absolutely delicious! The sauce was superb and there were plenty of shrimp. So often you can't tell if you're getting more than a couple of shrimp. Service was great. Very friendly and they came around multiple times to check on us. Highly recommend you try Lupita's. read more

Went today for lunch . Restaurant wasn't full but not empty either . The food took 30 mins to come out . 2 burritos and 1 combo plate beef taco with a tostada beans and rice . The beef taco was just beef I don't even think it had salt and pepper seasoning . It was cubed and full of water and no taste other than boiled water . It looked as if they forgot to plate it and last minute through it on , no lettuce or cheese . The only lettuce and cheese was on the tostada. That was also soggy . The beans were dried out and the rice was dry and crispy from being under the heat to long . Meal came with chips and salsa ( 2oz cup) they will refill them for 1.50 . The only reason I give three stars is for the salsa, the salsa was very good! The food was greasy and way too much yellow cheese put on everything. The chicken taco was very bland and dry, hard to even get it down. Bean and guacamole tostada was good but again too much cheese and gave me heartburn so the beans were even greasy. .99 margaritas were ok. RUDE RUDE RUDE. Nasty food, Don't waste your money. We went in the lady is super strange, she told us to sit anywhere so when I started walking to a booth she walked faster to get in front of us just to slow way way down to snail speed. They seated us at a table in the back that you can tell the workers had been sitting at. There were still cups on the table, the remote for the tv was on the table. She took the cups, left the remote and didn't wipe down the table. I asked for a rag to do it myself and asked if I could turn the tv down. She brought me a rag to literally have me wipe it down and said yes I could turn the tv down but still left the remote. Moving forward we were sitting across from a table of 7 family member (who were white) were infants(like 5 months so didn't order of course) they had ordered before we even got there, then we sat down, and then a Mexican family came in. The family that came in after us not only had their order taken before we did but also got their food before the family next to us did. They finally started bringing out the tables food that was next to us, but 1 plate at a time and then the next one came out 5 mins later and then 5 mins later (we timed it literally after the second time) leaving the kid who was maybe 4 his food came last. Then we finally get our order taken, I asked a few questions and the lady taking the order literally knew nothing about the menu. She offered refills on our chips and salsa multiple times and we said yes because it was taking forever. Finally we got our food, I took one bite and it was awful. I sent it back and said I didn't want anything else. My boyfriend finished his and then we got the check. The check was charging $5 for my food that was sent back and $3 for the 2 extra chips. When we went to the front we asked the guy if he was the manager, he said she (as in our waitress) would help us. I said "oh she is the manager" he said no I am, and I told him I would like to speak with him then before she finishes. I asked why I was being charged $5 for mine and he said because I had eaten some. I told him I had taken one bit which is how I knew it was nasty, he said that was more than a bite. I told him it wasn't to he interrupted me and was like "fine I'm not going to argue over $5" and I went to ask about why we were being charged for more chips but I didn't get it out because he shut me down with "fine your total is xyz). My boyfriend cuts in an says excuse me why did you shut her down like that she wasn't finished talking and was going to ask another question. He said "fine what?" I asked "why are we being charged for chips?" He said "extra chips $1.50 it's in the menu." I said "well we didn't have a menus when offered more chips nor did she mention it when offering." He said "fine your total is". He started slamming his fingers on the calculation very hard and aggressive then said "your total is xyz". I gave my card and he said you're good to go. I asked for me receipt and said I would like to sign the one you are keeping." He tossed the pen at me on the counter. I sign his company and wanted to sign mine before I left. I handed him his copy and we went to pull the pen out of my hand. I said "oh hold on a moment I would like to fill out and sign my copy as well while on camera so it's proven the final cost." He said fine and just walked away. I will absolutely never go back here. With that kind of service and the high prices. For just my boyfriend to eat a not good meal (men eat anything) and just one soda was $26. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I've driven by and seen this place many times. Always wanted to give it a try. I felt like having menudo and they had some available on a Sunday afternoon. (That's late if you are a menudo connoisseur) I was greeted and immediately helped. They have limited seating due to covid and were taking to go orders. They offer white and red menudo. They clean the tripe well and add onions to their broth. Something I normally don't see. When it arrived i was impressed with the packaging. It was a lot. I asked for a Pata (pigs feet) and they gave me a good size one on the side. Mixed it with the spices and wow. This was really good. Definitely going back. They sell menudo 7 days a week. This is probably the worst Mexican food I've had. This was not authentic. I ordered the enchiladas de pollo.The enchilada filling (salty chicken mush) was OVER SALTED and I typically love salt but not this NO WAY. The rice looked dry but once I moved it around it was mush, flavorless mush. The beans were okay probably the best part of the plate. I'd like to add that the spoonful of lettuce topping was brown and gross. My son ordered the asada fries. The steak was burnt and way over cooked but it's fries and cheese so that was tolerable. My husbands flautas were just as horrible as my enchiladas. I'm writing this review because the food was awful, service was not good and we spent almost $70!! I'd love a refund cause this was just bad all around but I'm certain we wouldn't get a refund the attitudes of the servers was not one of someone who cares much about the consumer. If I could leave zero stars I would! Iam incredibly disappointed! My granddaughter and I try to have lunch today. The only tables that were clean were for parties of 8. We sat there for over 10 minutes before greeting us and taking a drink order. The waitress and brought our drinks and some chips and no menus! After over 15 minutes I said I was going to leave my order has still not been taken and the people who came in after me had already received their food. They put salsa on the eggs and the "papas" looked and tasted old and dry. Chorizo was burnt and way to salty. My moms burger was like a kids plate. It was small and didn't come with cheese. This place was TERRIBLE. Of all the Mexican restaurants in El Mirage / Surprise, this is easily the worst. I got the carne asada, and it tasted like they took a flank steak straight from the freezer to the grill with no stopping for seasoning or tenderizing. Chips were cold and unsalted, the salsa tasted like watered down ketchup, the Rice and Beans were inedible, and the Ice Tea tasted like it had sat all day to sour. PLEASE PLEASE, go to Las Fuentes, Rio Mirage, or even the drive through Humberto's next to City Hall before you go here.
