Stopped in this morning for a bagel and I was immediately greeted by someone behind the counter . I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and I almost opted for extra because a lot of bagel places skimp on it. When I got the bagel it was really fresh, a good amount of cream cheese, and the jalapeño cream cheese actually had chunks of chopped jalapeños. Overall, it was really good and I will definitely come back. This place would have a lot more potential if it had inside seating, but there isn't much room to put chairs/seats - so I get it. There are seats outside though. I'm not sure if they sold out quick or if they didn't make enough of some of their bagels because I did notice some of the bagel baskets were cleared out by the time I got there, 7:45am. So if you're banking on a specific flavor, I would suggest getting there early. read more

We visited Barristers for the first time today and it won't be our last visit. They had a great selection of bagels, which were all well coated in seasoning, as well as a large selection of flavored cream cheese. Be warned that you can't eat here, which surprised me. There are no tables inside, and only 2 small tables outside sitting in the mulch. I had a lox sandwich on an everything bagel and it was delicious. A nice portion of lox as well as capers and red onions. My husband had an egg sandwich and said the cinnamon raisin bagel is one of the best he's had. All of the meat they use is Boars Head. My only real complaint is that the woman working at the front counter was out front smoking when we got there. She followed us in smelling like cigarettes. She was very helpful and gave us recommendations on the menu, but I don't want to smell cigarettes when I'm getting ready to eat. If you need to take a smoke break I would recommend doing it out of view of the patrons. read more

Barrister's has so much potential. There are not many good bagel places in the 'burbs, and theirs are very tasty. Unfortunately, my experience at this location left much to be desired. Our big draw to Barrister's was the egg bagel. Why are those so hard to come by? We ordered ahead, one with schmear and one bacon, egg, and cheese. The confirmation stated a 20 minute completion time, and since we live about 20 minutes away, we hopped right in the car. Upon arriving, we realized there was no space to dine-in, which was a bit of a bummer. There were two small outdoor tables, but it was far too chilly to eat outside. The inside was small, and there were about 10 other people standing awkwardly, waiting for their orders. We ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes for our orders. The staff was clearly inundated and overwhelmed, but they were working hard and were friendly enough. We realized our mistake quickly: don't order ahead, don't order sandwiches. Come to Barrister's, walk-in, order a half dozen or dozen to-go, and take them home. You're in and out. If you're really craving a breakfast sandwich, I'd avoid coming here during peak times, or I would anticipate a wait. The egg bagel was tasty and chewy. They've sadly slid downhill to the point my wife asks why do you still go there? The sadly abstract misshapen bagelry keeps me laughing and frustrated at the same time. There are days when the baker does not get started early enough and a few flavors are not available. Occasionally the bagels are doughy and under baked which is no bueno. The smoked-salmon spread must have changed recipe over the past few months and seems to have liquid smoke added in the cream cheese at this point. I continue to patronize the store since there are no alternatives in the area. I continue to hope they can put in that little extra effort and routinely deliver a stellar product again in the near future. read more

Food is consistently packaged incorrectly by the kids. Names are often switched, incorrect, or taken by the wrong person from the table due to this (Sarah with Susan). Owner/Manager is incredibly rude, uninterested with helping customers and admits he's "not easy to deal with". We've been patrons for years, missing the previous owners so very much. We'll never return and we suggest you do not ruin your Sunday mornings as well. Yes, we've spoken to the employees and owner. Yes, we've left our food and asked them for and our refund in a timely fashion. This is the last and final time we'll ever go. Such a disaster of an establishment. Who runs out of bagels at a bagel shop? You should evaluate inventory weekly. Please do not respond with "you have no record of our order". Let me just start off by saying that I was born and raised in New York, meaning that I am no stranger to authentic bagels and a large selection of flavored cream cheese spreads. This place is the first authentic bagel I have been able to find outside of New York. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and if it's not boiled then knock me over with a feather! The Pros: Great flavor selection Various Cream Cheese flavors Friendly service - after visiting only two times so far the lady at the front counter remembered me and was very welcoming. The Cons: Wait time - both times I visited after 9 AM on a weekday. The first time there was only one person in line ahead of me the other time there were 4-5 people in line ahead of me. That second time I waited at least 20 minutes. There really should be someone else behind the counter to prepare orders while the other deals with taking orders & money. The price - A bagel with cream cheese was a bit on the pricey side. Order accuracy- again, I have only visited twice and both times my order was incorrect. One bagel was ordered toasted but it wasn't. Sadly, this was before a road trip and I didn't realize until I was halfway through Chester county. Just an average bagel place. My breakfast sandwich hit the spot (bacon egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel), but my boyfriend's hash brown was mushy. Service was average and the line was confusing for someone who has never been here before. The line starts to the right of the counter. You order, you then make your way around to the left to pay.... if the staff ever takes your payment. The bad: clean up! You're serving food! The floor is filthy. The baseboard moldings have like an inch of grease and dirt. Paint, ammonia, bleach...have some respect for your business and customers. The fridge section that is in front of prep area has never been swept underneath. Prime view of filth when sitting inside. Honestly, I hope they will clean it up. I'd like to see this place succeed. But one day, the department of health will close it down. I'll go back in 30 days..look for my update! Update: still no cleaning. I'm sad about this place. I've been going here since they opened. The guy that ran it was great. It was always very organized, orders were correct and came out quickly, and the staff, while a rotating crew of college kids, had a good system in place that keep it running smoothly. Since it has changed ownership, I've been in 10-12 times. Every single time, my order is wrong in some way. Today was the last straw. A literal dumpster fire. Angry clients waiting way too long for their orders should have told me to get back in the car, but I ordered anyway. Two "extra toasted" bagels with cream cheese. They came out untoasted and mushy (the untoasted thing seems to be a theme here, 8 or so of my previous orders were mush. Either they don't have a working toaster or they don't understand what toasting means...). They remade them...kind of. Still mushy but whatever. The lady working behind the counter explained that the two cashiers were "first day and second day" employees. Which is fine, but maybe don't put them both on register at once. The guy in the back making the bagels was visibly agitated and yelled at one of the poor girls that she was "screwing everything up by trying to help". Yikes. It took 20 minutes to get our food. Bagels. The easiest food on earth. I worked in the restaurant industry for many years, and I'm not sure the new owners have ever owned a food related business, let alone ever worked in one. Pretty upset about the customer service at this location. I showed up and my pick up order was was not ready so I showed my order email to one staff member and I was told I can wait in my car while it was made. I walked back in 10 minutes later and a woman demanded to see my email again and she stated she couldn't start the order until she saw proof of the email. Did recognize there was a mix up location for the order placed. However, I did not like how I was treated about the mix up and the clear lack of communication between staff. I walked out and drove to the other location for pick up. read more

Haven't been in here in quite some time but decided to pop in to grab something to go for lunch. I first tried to order the tuna salad only to find out they don't make it anymore. My second choice was the chicken salad. Nope, don't make that anymore either. Not sure why these items are still on the menu then! Wound up with a turkey sandwich on a plain bagel, toasted. She asked if I wanted mayo, mustard, etc. I said yes to both mayo and mustard and she sort gave me this weird look, like how disgusting. Hey, that's the way I like my sandwich. I've been to this place three times and found out about it through a friend. Regardless of what I'm about to say the food is amazing, the shop is clean. I would recommend it to anyone 100%. The first time ever going into this place, I was greeted by a woman she seemed nice at first. The way the shop is set up is the bagels are on a cart in the back and the cream cheese is in a window. I said, "I'd like a poppyseed bagel..." and paused. She gave me a look as if I were stupid and she wanted me to hurry up, very rude. I apologized and told her "I didn't know if you needed to get the bagel first, I'm just trying to make it easier, I'm sorry" she just scoffed at me and said no. I was getting three different bagels that morning, and I guess I was just trying to be respectful and not overwhelm her be throwing a bunch of different bagel and cream cheeses at her all at once. I'll preface this review by saying I'm more of a blue collar greasy spoon breakfast person type of guy, but this place was good. It's much more yuppie and gentrified. They only take credit cards only thing cash can be usedfor tip. The likes is that they use local ingredients like boar's Head. The bagels are of the softer variety not the hard crusty ones. I'm pretty sure that the bacon is turkey bacon. I almost gave it a three star but it's local and it's clear they're trying so I bumped it to four. The staff isn't very welcoming and like most of the other reviews it seems most of their employees don't care to be there. When you try to call I.order to beat the line out the door you're lucky if they answer. It's the only bagel spot in town which is why they are always busy but they do make a good bagel. I've been several times where there have been no bagels because of one excuse or another. The owners are amazing the shop looks cleaner and better and the bagels are delicious I will be back for sure! read more

Updating my review since I have been back a few times since the ownership change. The customer service is noticeably better and they have more people working, which is a huge help. I was there on a weekend waiting for a bagel order, which was taking longer than expected. It seemed like they took orders for more bagels than they could fulfill. They handed out some coupons, which was nice. I still would have preferred a more realistic estimate on the order since I would have just chosen different bagels to not wait as long. The bagel quality seems similar to before, which is good! I got a breakfast sandwich (egg, meat and cheese on a bagel), which was priced high for the size, I thought. It seemed skimpy on the egg and meat, which is surprising for a $5.99 price. I probably won't order one of those again, but will continue to buy bagels here from time to time. read more

The food is good (if they can get your order correct); the service is terrible. I suppose if you order a plain bagel with cream cheese it is probably a 50/50 shot if they get that right but beyond that; forget it. I am not sure how you can place a phone order for a single item; it is repeated back to you twice and when you get home; surprise; it's made wrong again! Maybe the staff doesn't know the difference between a plain bagel or the Onion one that you ordered. I don't know but is it common to have lettuce and tomatoes on a bagel with Lox and Cream Cheese when you distinctly asked for just onions? If I was just rating bagels, this place would hands down have 5 stars. Being from New York, I'm used to getting "bagels" that only resemble bagels by their shape and the fact that they have seeds. These bagels are legit. Everything else aside, if you are knocking the actual product (ie. too chewy...), you don't really know how the bagel is supposed to be. Not trying to be a bagel snob, but it's crispy on the outside and chewy....that's the feature of a bagel. I've never really experienced slow service, but I only ever get a bag of bagels...seems like the complaints mostly come from people getting sandwiches. Unfortunately, I too have come in close to closing (about an hour before) and gotten the same vibe; a subtle reluctance when you walk in the door and they go to serve you. If you close at 3, starting to clean up at 2:30 seems reasonable, and I totally get that if you go 45 minutes without the customer, it's tempting to start to phone it home. I chalk it up to youth and training, but it's a bummer that when I see it's an hour or so from closing, I end up not going. I wish they would franchise....I think with a superstar staff (doesn't have to be over the top friendly, just efficient), high foot traffic location, and a kitchen that could handle capacity would make this place pretty awesome, especially for people who appreciate good bagels. read more

I was excited to see that this place was under new ownership. I asked for a toasted sesame seed bagel with chocolate chip cream cheese. What I got was an untoasted bagel with warm cream cheese and a piece of someone's hair. Seriously disgusting. On top of that, I ordered two hash browns and got one soggy piece of potato.
