Barr's public house doesn't just serve up the best burgers and pub fare, they also serve up great steaks and seafood.

We arrived at 5:45 on a Friday and it wasn't busy yet, but by 6:45 the place was mostly full. I'd recommend making a reservation during busy hours. It looks upscale for a pub, and food prices reflect that. Wear a jacket or sweater in the summer because they keep it far too cold for comfort because they have a humidity problem. As far as the food goes, my husband's shrimp tacos were good. My daughter really enjoyed her chicken strips and said the mac and cheese and homemade chips were great. My burger was cooked a perfect well-done, and the first few bites tasted good, but after a while the salt content started to bother me. My fries were exceedingly salty and should have been sent back, but our server didn't come back to check on us until we were nearly done eating. Even then he didn't ask how things were. He asked if we needed more water, though there was a water container on our table with water in it. Then he never came back again and I had to go to the front desk to ask for our bill. When he brought it, he didn't even apologize. Another man who was busy working the whole time we were there and talking to many of the customers was the person who boxed up our leftovers, so I gave him a tip on the way out. I wish I'd gotten his name because people like him will bring customers back. I won't call out our server's name, but I do hope that the note I left on the receipt pushes him to provide much better service to future customers. read more

I went here Friday for date night and we were seated fairly quickly considering how busy they were. We got a table in a more quiet area which was appreciated and we scanned the QR code for the menu. I had the La Paloma (Paloma with tequila, mezcal, gin, grapefruit, and a couple other things) while my boyfriend had The O.G which is their twist on an old-fashioned. My La Paloma was delicious but I wished it had a little more grapefruit but The O.G. was very good and I wish I had ordered that. For dinner, we both had the short rib Shepard's pie and while it was delicious, I was a little bummed it seemed like a much smaller portion than the photo provided on the menu. I will definitely return and try another entree. The staff was great and I can't wait to come back. read more

I hate to have to leave a bad review. When this place first opened it was such a great experience. Loved talking to the owner, the servers were fantastic, the food dead on, the overall polish of the experience was notable. I was there twice this week and decided after last night that we will no longer be coming in. Such a disappointment. Each time we have come in the experience has been consistently going down hill (room way to cold, never seeing the same servers twice, poor table service, decreasing quality of the food, too much sauces, oily, salty). Honestly surprised with the high quality of reviews posted. That does not match our experience. I leave this review in hopes that they can turn it around to back the way it was when they opened. read more

Reservations are not helpful if you want a good table. They gave a table in the dining room to a walk in couple immediately before us and then tried to seat us in the noisy bar. We asked why we didn't get a table in the dining room since we had a reservation, the snarky person at the host station informed us that a table in the bar "is still a table". Not my plan for a Saturday night dinner when we had reservations. We left and went to Urban Pine Winery. Best decision of the day. read more

We, MM and myself, here now for dinner after our meeting with RickS at airport. This is near our hotel. Lively here with guitar player in bar area and all areas are busy and a bit noisy with happy people. We have a variation of foods requested. Mine is Bourbon Salmon, brussell sprouts. Mark having chili soup and green chili chicken quesadilla. And a local beer and gin tonic. And all was excellent. We liked salmon more. read more

This place is alright. They are big and have a pretty nice setup at a couple bars. The service at the bar is attentive so that's a plus! The drinks are also pretty good! However, the food was lackluster. The loaded chips were cold and had what were basically lays chips. The sauce tasted from a jar, and with all the "house-made" items on the menu, I would expect the cheese sauce to me house-made. read more

What initially caught my eye about this place is everything is done from scratch and even witnessed the bar tender picking herbs for some of the drinks she was serving. The service is good and the menu is wide ranging and sure to capture something of desire for about anyone. The atmosphere is elegant but not snooty and the dress code/ clientele match. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is the Cajun pasta was over the top spicy making it difficult to enjoy and a bit salty. If I lived locally I'd come here a few times a month, absolutely worth a visit if passing through. read more

I've been here twice now and both were good experiences. Pub dip and fried cauliflower are both very good. This time, tried the black and blue burger and was very happy with my choice. This was an unexpectedly wonderful find. I was looking for someplace to eat and didn't know what I wanted and ended up here. Very nice atmosphere with a very respectable amount of people for early afternoon. Staff was super friendly so I figured I'd have a low-key relaxing lunch... then came the cauliflower bites. I was absolutely blown away by their crispiness and deliciousness. It was like a high level fried calamari, but with a different texture. The bacon, tomato, cucumber salad was equally impressive. I had to add the grilled salmon, which was cooked to the perfect chef recommended temperature and infused with a nice grilled taste. Finally, I had to try their smash burger. Being the burger snob that I am, I had a lot of questions before I ordered it. Apparently, they don't miss! The meat was very well seasoned and the bun was cotton- candy soft. I don't even have any real criticism for this place except that the truffle fries weren't available. The regular fries were just that, regular. Can't complain though. This place is a winner! I would have more pictures, but I devoured these meals too fast. Very reasonable price for the quality other food. read more

Stopped here looking for a good dinner while passing through on a Friday night during a road trip to South Bend. Points for being able to make a reservation on Yelp 15 minutes before our stop. They have cool tablet menus and it was very clean, with fun Halloween decorations. However, our server was very disinterested, and actively avoided all eye contact when it took around 55 minutes for our food to come. At no point did he stop by and apologize for the wait. I finally was able to get his attention by specially calling out to him after about 50 minutes and he said the food was coming up then. It did come out a very short time later. It was very frustrating to be sitting there waiting with zero communication for him about not having our food yet. Thankfully the food was pretty tasty. read more

I've been here several times and never once felt welcome. Happy hour at the bar. Dinner with my girls. Ladies night on thursday? Nope. This last time kind of topped it off for me. Im sitting at the bar right next to a couple. So far so good. Got my beer, contemplating food. Its still patty's day early afternoon. A small group of 4 other 5 comes in. Couple next to me has left. Bartender says hey ma am can u move? For what? Im enjoying my drinks. Heres the kicker... the group was like no u don't need to move. He doesn't want to sit down. There's plenty of tables in the bar area at 2pm if they needed one. Why are u asking me to move as I'm trying to get lunch and a drink? I moved. Shouldn't have. The gentleman never even sat down. He chose to stand up and u have me moving my coat purse etc for nothing. As a solo female this felt very rude to me. Now if the customers had asked me to move that would be another matter. Finally got to check this place out. Friday night crowd 45 minute wait for a table but got couple spots right away at the bar. Ordered a dirty martini and it came with the most delicious wasabi blue cheese olives; as perfect as you could ask. The bartender was friendly and helpful although quite busy we never waited long for anything. Ordered a French dip that was awesome (apart from the ciabatta bread) and Asiago truffle fries that could have been the main course they were so large perfectly crispy and seasoned. Chicken fingers were served with 3 sauces each appeared homemade and none disappointed. Also got a side of Mac and cheese that was the perfect ratio of cheese and cream; fabulous. Wow, what an incredible meal! I had the shrimp tacos and upgraded to the asiago truffle fries. The taco shells are actually a thin flat bread that is cooked on the grill just a bit to give it some crisp in certain areas. The shrimp and sauce were excellent. The asiago truffle fries, unbelievable! As you can see from the pic, they give you a huge helping and they are absolutely delicious! You given you an iPad that has the menu on it and you can click on an item and it will give you the price and all of the details on the item. Pretty neat concept. BPH has a full bar and good draft beer offering. Also have a great happy hour with food and drink specials. read more

Barr's has a unique position in a good market. But, it has gone downhill over the years and has really lost any cache it once had. Staff is nice, but undertrained, and they seem to have a great deal of staff turnover....we eat there about 4 or 5 times a year and rarely do we see the same people. Interesting menu, great location but they do not seem to execute. It could be THE higher end watering hole in an affluent area but it comes up short. read more

The menu is top notch and you can tell some thought went into what they put on it. The plate presentations are very well done. The food was above average and you can tell the chef uses quality ingredients. Great wine and beer selections as well. Nice "cozy" comfortable place. Stopped by for an early dinner on a Monday night. The hostess was friendly and I was seated quickly. The menu was on an iPad and was fairly limited....I ordered the loaded chips, Kobe sliders and Mac n cheese. The chips came first, and were delicious! The dipping sauce with them was perfect. My Kobe burger and Mac n cheese cake next- unfortunately the burger was still raw on the inside and the macaroni and cheese was cold. However, when my server checked in she was quick to fix the situation and bring me a fresh burger and hot mac. The burger was just ok- it very much needed some form of sauce and also seasoning. No ketchup, aioli, or salt/pepper were provided. Mac n cheese was just ok. Again- desperately needed pepper. Overall, I'd be back for the friendly service, and the loaded chips....but I'll have to BYOC. (Bring your own condiments). read more

Great happy hour until 7 pm. Thursday Ladies night with drink and app specials. Fairly decent Pinot Grigio $5/glass and martini specials. Only complaint is a rather complicated menu. I'm obsessed with the Cajun pasta (Add chicken). I'm not big of spicy usually but it's got a little kick to it that it's not too much. The bartenders (and staff) are nice and willing to make drinks not on the menu, as long as they have the ingredients. For example, I love sex on the beach and they made it for me. The drink in the picture is a drink I usually get at Outback Steakhouse. The bartender also made it for me. Highly recommend coming here. :) read more
