We had a warranty service on our AC. We assumed it was going to be days for a service appointment then weeks for a part. Not at all! I put in the claim at 8pm and had a phone call already at 8am next day. The office lady was respectful and helpful. Gave me a 9-12 arrival and he arrived at 9:05, like she said he would. He knew what he was doing and exactly what was wrong. Plus, he had the part on the truck and told me even if it was something more substantial he could get us taken care of same day. I had a bunch of questions and he answered each one with intense detail (appreciated). Not a robot personality either, he was a real person with a greatly appreciated sense of humor. After fixed he showed me what he replaced and made sure the system was running again, including checking out the other parts of our system as well, giving me great advice and insight. The entire experience was 30 minutes and our AC was back! It's the end of May and temps are already in the 90's too! I couldn't have asked for a better experience and highly recommend them and the technician, though I don't remember his name (haha). read more

Been trying for over a week to get something scheduled for a service call. They kept saying to take out the filter and see if it gets better. The chic that answers the phone, Melanie, just cussed at my daughter using the f-bomb telling her not to interrupt her. It was so bad my daughter 3-way called me so I can hear. Within 30 seconds of hearing this phone call I said don't even worry about it, this company is NOT coming to my house. Save your time and go with a company that actually cares about their customers. We got the opportunity to work with Barry's this week when our heater stopped working. Our home warranty co set up the estimate, and we find out THAT DAY (Wednesday 1/8/20) that someone will be by to take a look at the system between 3 and 6. I get off work in Danville, get the baby, and rush home to be there by 3, and I think Bob may have arrived at 3:01. 1st plus. Once Bob got up on the roof and figured out the issue he came back down, waited for me to call my husband and then he explained the issue and said that he would have it fixed on Friday at the latest. We called our home warranty company on Wednesday morning. I came home THE NEXT DAY (Thursday 1/9/20) to this box on my door and a business card that said "fixed". Thought we had resolution after a 3 way call with old republic. Then I received an email the next day canceling the appointment the day before the appointment was scheduled after 8 weeks of waiting for the part to come in. Requested through my home warranty service on Thursday someone to come out because my family home A/C in Manteca didn't seem to be cooling as well as it usually does. Going through this heatwave right now in CA I know it's probably super busy. Luckily there was an opening and was able to get someone to come out to the house on Saturday. Tech verified that the A/C unit was working properly and did a walk through of the home. Explained that due to the current heat wave it's harder to keep the house as cool as usual. Gave tips on cleaning the unit because it was quite a bit dusty/dirty which would help in the performance. Also tips on the home air filters. Overall, pretty happy with the visit and glad to know the unit is still working. read more

If I could choose zero stars I would. Never have I encountered such unprofessionalism from a business. As you can see a lot of the reviews below agree. My husband and I had Barry's come out and look at our AC unit. They came and looked at our unit, looked at the vents and even went in the attic to see what was going on. We were told that the entire unit needs to be replaced. My husband then called Barry's to get the pricing information and spoke to a female, can't recall her name. And like I said my husband just called to get information, not to go ahead and hire them and agree to a payment plan. The lady he spoke to in regards to this was yelling, cussing and would hang up the phone. My husband then spoke to the male who came and did the initial inspection and again my husband was yelled at, cussed at and physically threatened. Our home warranty company finally sent someone out from a different company to look at our unit and guess what? Nothing needed to be replaced. He said someone removed the power cord to the unit and plugged it back in incorrectly. THAT WAS IT! I honestly don't understand how this company is still in business, it is literal TRASH. Unfortunately it's the company contracted with the home owners warranty.. ac has been out for 3 days and they booked appointment to come out a whole week later knowing this upcoming weekend will be in high temperatures of 108-110! Bob knows what he's doing when it comes to fixing HVAC systems. He was out to fix my AC that apparently had a bad capacitor. He had it diagnosed within minutes (no exaggeration) and had my AC panel off and the capacitor changed and put back together in about 10 minutes. I recommended him to my in-laws when they needed their system replaced and Bob and his crew did a fantastic job. Quite a few of these reviews are based off of home warranty experiences, which is a joke in itself. Home warranty companies are more about putting a Band-Aid on the problem rather than actually fixing it. I also noticed that most of these reviews are during the summer months when folks' patience is basically non existent - especially when it's 100 + degrees in the valley. So, if I'm reading a review by an uncomfortable, irritated and impatient individual I personally think it has more to do with their circumstances and less to do with the quality of work performed. read more

Giving 2 stars because Melanie was so personable and helpful in setting up my appointment. Bob, on the other hand, has a bit of a surly disposition. As if the simple act of him being at my house answering a Service Call was a Bridge too Far for him. I don't expect anyone to feel as though they have to kiss my a$$ for anything, but seriously- it seems like he's just rude for the sake of being rude. (I was trying to explain my situation and I guess he felt I was talking over him, because he said "If you keep interrupting me, I can just leave".) He spent maybe 5 minutes "looking" at my heater, but did not perform any diagnostic testing (as the only thing he brought inside was his cell phone- no tools). He also gave a quick look under the house. He came back inside, said that the job would be about 3 to 4 hours because it was "such a mess" and that he had to talk to the Home Warranty company. He then walked out the door. I figured he had gone out to his vehicle to call the Home Warranty company and would be back in to talk to me, but no. He left without another word. I called the Home Warranty company, asked them to reassign my request. Which they did. The (new) HVAC tech was over this morning. I am a tenant at a property that Barry serviced. He came by the property to assess a home warranty claim by my landlord related to an HVAC unit. I have two major ethical issues with this company: (1) they didn't disclose their relationship with a home warranty company to me (and - as far as I know - the fact that they had interests adverse to ours); and (2) they performed work on the unit without providing me with written documentation and an opinion on the safety of the unit, after promising to do so. I'm okay - in principle - with the idea that a home warranty company would have a relationship with a contractor, and the contractor would act in their best interests; however, that absolutely does not excuse the behavior outlined above. I've reached out a few times to this company and they've said that documentation was coming 'in 1-2 days' a couple different times, but I haven't received anything. In addition, I had a contractor without a relationship with a home warranty company inspect the unit, and that contractor was very concerned that the unit was dangerous. I don't have a way to independently determine whether Barry's advice was accurate, but I think that the circumstances certainly seem suspect, given the concerns that an independent contractor raised and the other inappropriate conduct from this company. read more

My heater stopped working (it's mid-january) and the company initially assigned to my request via my home warranty company was not available for 2 weeks out. I have a 2 year old and it was already 60 degrees in my house so going that long was not an option. My warranty company assigned to Barry's. Melanie called me within 2 hrs or so to confirm that they could see me today about 2 hrs from then. Great. Even better was her calling me back about 10 mins later and saying that the tech was actually around the corner from my house and, if I am home, they can see me now. Let me start by saying that the service guys for this company are amazing!!! This review has NOTHING to do with them. After dealing with this company for over a month, we HAD to switch to another service provider (through our home warranty) because the woman running the office called our home warranty company to tell them that they were not going to do the job anymore since I was rude to her on the phone. It is comical that she told them I was rude since it was the EXACT OPPOSITE!!! I simply called to find out why I had not heard from anyone in her office since our parts were ordered over two weeks prior. She then told me that we had not returned a contract to them that had been emailed to us for our signature. When I asked her what email address they had on file, she spun off into a fit about how she was super busy and right in the middle of something so she could not check. Basically, the never emailed a contract and were now going to try make the delay in service seem like our fault. I was not about to let that happen. She then became super heated and told me that I was "playing games" with her. I reminded her that I was a customer and she was being yelling at me and being belligerent for no reason. She told me that she has been doing this for 25 years and deals with people all of the time. I told her I was sorry for those people and she then hung up on me. It took almost a month to get them out to service her AC... and when they showed up they tried talking to my grandmother (who is hard of hearing) and when she didn't respond they walked off the job without saying anything!!! We have had 2 great experiences with this company for separate issues. Both times, appointments were scheduled by the next day, and both times Bob left with the issues resolved (unlike the original company that our warranty company referred us to). And both times, Bob called a week later to double check everything was still working properly. I read the other negative reviews. Not to discount those customer experiences, I feel that customers resort to Yelp to report negative reviews more than to report positive reviews (perfect service is always expected). HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 10 out of 10. Bob provided excellent service. He's very responsive, informative, and professional. He went above and beyond to help us out. He discovered our new unit once installed wasn't keeping the Freon so he went the extra mile to expedite picking up parts needed to fix the issue. He worked with us and came back on a Sunday after doing another AC install to fix out issue. (We're in Elk Grove and Bob is in Manteca so he was willing to travel that much back and forth!) Bob is a diligent, hardworking, honest person and doesn't try to upsell. His guys who work with him have been with him a long time and that kind of loyalty speaks volumes to me. The first visit to assess our AC unit Bob was upfront on timing and let us know it would likely take 6-8weeks because we were going through our home warranty. He advised us to stay on top of the warranty company because it will depend on how fast they review Bob's report. I did as he told me and after waiting on hold for almost 2 hrs with the warranty company I finally got through to someone and our case was pushed through to Barry's so they could setup the work order, etc. (NOTE: Barry's can't do anything without authorization from the warranty company so bothering them to move the process along does nothing. It's the responsibility of the homeowner to stay on top of the warranty.) Because we stayed on top of the home warranty the original 6-8weeks turned into 4 weeks. Also, Melanie was a delight to talk to and work with. She was very responsive and helped us navigate the process too. I came home to a really hot house, thermostat was at 84! My AC unit was not kicking on I also noticed a burning smell coming from the unit. I contacted Barry's company and Bob was at my house within the hour. He was already out working other jobs with a crazy busy schedule he took the time to swing by and take a look. Turns out my capacitor was burned out, he replaced the capacitor in just a few minutes! My air was up and running in no time, quality work and dedication to the job. If you can't handle a customer get a supervisor. I am also a small business owner if I had a staff member treat a customer like that she would not work for me. Barry's Company just kicked ass and took names all over our central heating system. Now that we're getting settled into the new place, we're discovering all those "little things" that need to be tweaked and beaten into submission from their formerly temperamental ways. Our central heating system has been one of these problem areas since we moved in. It works...just not very well in certain rooms. And since this house was built before the cinematic era of "talkies," it's like a freaking icebox in aforementioned heat-less rooms. We were pretty convinced that since Barry's Company was sent over to us by our home warranty provider, they were going to take a 2 minute cursory glance and then declare that sorry Charlie, nothing we can do and none of this is covered by your warranty. So I was pretty surprised when (Bob) showed up and gave me a crash course in HVAC. I learned about ductwork, dampers, different filter technologies, blowers, gravity systems, programming, and a myriad of other details about our heating system that I never would have had the patience to figure out on my own. 15-20 minutes later, he blew back out the front door and left me in a house that I can say at this point looks like it's going to be a LOT more comfortable (and cheaper to heat) for the rest of the Winter. AND, on top of his heating expertise, he noticed that we're in the process of painting Sir Kicks-A-Lot's nursery, and gave me several awesome and very helpful pointers about taping, sealing, and burnishing when painting detail-work. AND he gently reminded me that infants have extremely weak immune systems, and I should remember to clean our filters even more often for the first few years. All for our $55 warranty deductible. Solid. --------------- admittedly, we probably did get off easy. if there had been a serious problem with the system, we could have been looking at some serious scrill to get things back in working order. but barry's company was thorough in their research once they got to our place, friendly but professional, knew their shit, and went above and beyond what they were probably required to do for a cursory visit on behalf of our warranty provider. and that was much appreciated. read more

Have you ever been YELLED at by a business owner, or called a LIAR? I was referred to Barry's by my home warranty company for a broken air conditioner. Although we are experiencing 100+ degree weather and the request was placed as an emergency, we received no call. It wasn't until I called the warranty company to complain that the secretary actually called me, making me wait two full days for service. The male service person/ owner did not place a courtesy call to our home before he showed up early on Saturday morning. Calls to the phone number given to us went to an answering machine. For three hours, the home warranty company was unable to reach "Barry". "Barry" called me from a blocked number and I asked if he was still coming to the house. He then proceeded to yell at me, calling me a liar for stating to the warranty company that he didn't contact us before he came over. He proceeded to rant and yell at me through the phone, until I cut him off with a prompt "goodbye". I've had services performed by many different companies, while as a renter and a homeowner. UNPROFESSIONAL! Bob Barry and I believe his wife Amanda do not bother to return phone calls. I have not had a working heater for over a month now waiting on them to do their job. I have now asked the home warranty company to stop using them for service calls all together. While to be fair - when Bob did come he was on time and professional.... the first time he took the time to explain things. But getting Amanda to schedule a follow up is next to impossible. On my third call she said "Oh yeah I was supposed to nag him to follow up on that bid" It is Very obvious that this is regular practice for them. Like the other reviewers I had to complain to the home warranty company customer service to get them to return my calls. Next follow up they wouldn't call back. One time he came for an appt. knocked once and left when I didn't hear the door. I was right there washing dishes....They do not return calls in a timely manner. Bob hung up on the client. Amanda also hung up. I called to follow up after 10 days with no return call. In a voice mail I told them they were unprofessional. When we called next day we were told they will not take our job BECAUSE I said they were unprofessional and told us to call another company! Unbelievable!
