We stopped here on our way home to Portland. I was excited since I haven't been to a good Jewish deli in a while. But we were underwhelmed. The matzo ball was dense and didn't quite have the right flavor. The mushroom soup was okay but not amazing. My husband's bialy with egg was fine but underseasoned. The kinish was too big so the balance was off. I'm bummed but the search continues. read more

I love this place. I have been coming to Barry's since I was at UO. Back then I frequented the college campus location. Now it's my go to whenever I want to grab breakfast on my way to work. The Barry's Breakfast Special Sandwich is the bomb people! There baked goods never disappoint (as my waistline can attest to lol) and even though at times the customer service can be a hit or miss depending on how busy they are, the food more than makes up for any mishaps. I would recommend anything in their display case...to be honest, there isn't much I haven't tried over the last 20 years. Just know it's a small place and seating is limited. I ordered a Challah with cream cheese, and it was fine (first time having one so can't comment to authenticity, etc), but service was super slow. Given staffing issues, this is understandable. My complaint is when people come in after you (not for a phone order or pickup) and despite ordering more complex food, get it before you (even worse when all you needed was your already baked item toasted). Came here absolutely ravenous after a morning hike with some friends, and a Barry's sandwich right afterwards hit the spot. I've never been to this place before, but I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere inside is so cozy and lived in, and the service was also excellent! We all got our food within no time, and it was worth it for sure. Any of their sandwiches would be a great pick, and their soups were also killer! If you're also feeling up for dessert, they have sooooo many options too. We are visiting Oregon and doing a ridiculous amount of driving to try to see all the beauty this state has, and we had to stop in Eugene for this restaurant when we found it on Yelp. It was a good call for sure. We got the matzoh ball soup that came with a big piece of challah and it was perfect! The lox sandwich was good but kind of odd since they were sold out of bagels. We showed up at 3, so that was our fault. The baked goods looked so good that we stocked up on some tasty road trip treats. We were surprised by everything, and are voting with the smarter locals deep into stardom for Barry, and his excellent crew. Homemade soups. Delicious breads and big sandwiches. Yummy desserts too. I had the half Reuben sandwich with hearty cream of tomato. My wife tried the delicious Hungarian mushroom soup and homemade Quiche, made with bacon and cheese. Since my first visit, I've enjoyed Barry's a few times. I've gotten breakfast sandwiches, Barry's BLT, and other various baked treats like rugelach and toll house cookies. Yesterday, my partner--who is a chocolate fan--was in town so I decided he definitely needed some of Barry's chocolate mousse cheesecake. We grabbed breakfast sandwiches and took the cheesecake to go. It was a hefty piece, so I decided to weigh it on my kitchen scale when we got home. Matza Ball Soup .. the bakery .. the sandwiches .. I've always been happy with Barry's!

For some reason I have never tried a Matza Ball soup. After watching so many tv shows and youtube videos, I wanted to cross that off my list of things to try, so I did. After some research I found that Barry's sells Matza Ball soup, so I ordered that and also got a onion bialy with cream cheese and also a walnut and cinnamon rugelach. The soup was great even though I had nothing to compare it too. Just a good flavor of chicken soup and the matza ball wasn't at all dense. The bialy was also very good, it was buttered and with cream cheese, and just have to give it two thumbs up. The rugelach was a bit dry, again don't know if that is the norm. Never had it before, but now have something to compare it to. Will definitely revisit... I have my eye on the tomato soup next time. read more

Great selection of pastries etc, good espresso. Good breakfast sandwiches for less than competitors prices. Only issue is I think they use fake eggs (?) but still great bacon, challah and pesto with tomatoes and hella cheese. Plus they always offer soups, you can't go wrong! Best pastrami sandwich I've ever had! The rye bread was amazing. Wonderful food and baked goods. We bought the challah rolls and used them as hamburger buns - wonderful! I have been going to Barry's consistently for over a year now and I cannot speak any higher of both the food and service I receive there. Every employee is working their butt off in the midst of the rush while maintaining patient and charming in their interactions with eager customers. The Half Reuben with Half portion of creamy mushroom soup is undefeated. Lately it has been the kosher dog that keeps me coming back and by the look of that picture you can tell why. And if the food and service wasn't already enough, they have potentially the BEST sweets and baked goods in the city. Cookies, Cheesecake, Challah, Hamentaschen, you name it. They are relatively well priced, very large portions, and most importantly made with love. Most of the customers are regulars and there is a nice ambiance and just overall mood, there is a Disneyland level of joy on display most of the time I come here. Barry's is my personal favorite spot to spend a Sunday morning. read more

If I could afford to spend $13/day on lunch, I would literally eat the veggie melt, lemon chicken rice soup, and blueberry cream cheese coffee bread every single day of my life. Their pesto is dank. If you want to pick up a chai or coffee and be tempted by enticing pastries and callay, go to Barry's. They always have rugelach and bread and cake and brownies. I typically get chai and some rugelach, which comes in cinnamon or chocolate and is very rich. They also tend to have a plate of poppyseed bread and maybe slices of chocolate cake. I often see a plate of day-old brownies and/or cake slices--and the cake slices are large. Oh, yeah, the workers are really friendly and efficient, too. Barry's does have good food. Their service, however, is spotty at best. Today I waited for fifteen minutes at the cash register, and there were three people behind me. Two of their employees were making sandwiches while the other two gathered their things and left. All of them ignored the customers waiting in line. One of the food preparers finally came over after I asked if anyone was working the cash register because we had been waiting quite a while. This young woman was snippy and acted as though I were being rude by speaking up. All in all, it was an unpleasant experience, and I left rather than have to deal any further with such an attitude. Local Jewish bakery. Although we miss the convenience of the campus location, it's great they still have another location in Eugene. Purchased a box of sweets for a two-year old's birthday. Due to state restrictions currently no indoor dining and no family gatherings with more than two households. As a result, we wanted to deliver a birthday gift and treats. Barry's was a fun option with frosted duck sugar cookies with sprinkles, sure to be a hit among the little ones and a few recommended treat sweets for the parents too. Only downfall at Barry's is no GF or non-wheat options that we know about. The chocolate cheesecake (photo) was huge and well received. Rave reviews on the flavor, size and texture. read more

I have always loved Barry's! From the first year it opened, was one of our first date places to go so it holds a special place. I do miss the original location, was so quaint and charming. The new location is fine but parking is difficult at times. The biggest drawback is the lack of seating and cleanliness. Its beyond awkward trying to order, figure out the line, people having to cut across the line just to get their food and all this while bumping into people that are actually seated. Had someone with fluffy long hair standing by our table and it was very uncomfortable to say the least. Not their fault, it's just the way it goes. Tables left dirty, bins overflowing, napkins and food on ground. Clearly people cant even pick up after themselves :/ The back of the restaurant, display case were all clean though and it felt well taken care of food wise. Staff was great- very friendly and as quickly as they could, got food and beverages out. The food is excellent- everytime we have been there. I just wish they'd rework the tables and layout- give it some style and charm and have a better flow overall. It was even difficult to exit!
