I have just had six 70' Eucalyptus trees removed by Bartlett. The team (crew) arrived promptly each day and kept me appraised as to the progress of each days work. They were professional at all times and cleaned up daily, even though there was a huge amount of tree debris to work with. They were also very accommodating with the few requests we made and were always cheerful. There was some unexpected damage to one of my rose bushes and they promptly sent someone out to repair it. In addition, they provided me with easy to understand instruction on how to care for my other trees and rose bushes. Frank Bombardier of Bartlett was recommended to me by a consulting arborist who assessed the health of the trees on my property shortly after I bought my house. Frank came a few weeks ago to do a walk-through with me and give me an estimate for whole-property pruning, trimming, and shaping. The estimate came quickly and the work was scheduled for 2-3 weeks out. They did the work yesterday, and I was impressed at how they did some major fix-it pruning for trees that hadn't been cared for properly in the past, and yet nothing looked hacked or lopsided. They were very thoughtful about where, why, and how they pruned, and everything looks great. And bonus -- they left the yard cleaner than when they found it. read more

Bartlett tree Experts is an excellent company. I have Bartlett in the past and was very happy with the price and work. This time, I called because my insurance company wanted tree limbs cut back and massive pruning. Frank came over to give me a quote. He carefully pointed out to me what needed to be done so as no unpleasant surprises. ( I hate my trees being cut) Three days later, they came over during January's pouring rain and within a couple of hours had cut, cleaned up the mess, and gone. What also I like is that I receive an invoice in the mail. Most other people, ie, fence builders, rug cleaners, painters want to be paid before they leave. It gives me the opportunity to be sure there all is in order. Bottom line is that they do excellent work, for a VERY reasonable price, Their crew is very friendly and kind. (I hope they get paid extra for working in the rain). P.S. The reason I didn't give the 5th star is because it infers that I might use another company for comparison. However, I never will. You are lying. Nobody said 10:30, and I told you I DON"T LIVE THERE, a tenant does, and you said you would knock on the door anyway, whatever, but I was in the car either way. She contacted Sean the arborist who arrived in 15 minutes. While Sean was here, my cat climbed up the utility pole in the backyard and Sean, climbed up the pole and rescued my cat. Such compassion. I have debated on leaving a review on this company for awhile, but in the end I don't want anyone to get taken advantage of like we were so I am going to go ahead. We used them for multiple treatments on some Leyland Cypress trees we had in our front yard that started looking "sick". They constantly told us that it was a certain kind of fungus that needed numerous treatments to fix so we went ahead with this plan. In the course of this treatment we lost 2 trees and almost all of the others ended up with signs of this "fungus" no matter what they did. We were paying a good amount of money for these treatments too, obviously. At one point we had 2 different landscape companies come out to give a quote for removing some bushes at the front of the property and they both commented on the orange branches of the remaining leyland cypress trees we had and BOTH ended up telling us that it was something completely different than what we had been treating them for. One guy actually was shocked that a company would tell us it was a certain fungus bc apparently what it was you had to be very aggressive with cutting back limbs, etc or you would lose the entire tree...hence why so many of ours died. I was livid when we found out, but at the time we had the house on the market to be sold so I just didn't say anything to the company. All I can say is this...get a second opinion for anything they are saying is wrong with you trees or you could be out hundreds of dollars like us. read more

I am very pleased with the expertise of the Arborist as well as the professionalism of the tree removal services. Hire Barlett. You won't be disappointed. Their price was NOT outrageous though it was not the cheapest. This is what you can expect if you hire professionals. From my first phone call to the completion of my fairly big job, it was less than 2 weeks including the on-site assessment and quoting and work itself. We had many stressed redwoods on our property. The drought is already taking its toll. Frank Bombadier (Master Arborist, board certified) came out promptly to assess which trees were save-able and which ones needed to be culled to preserve the others. He took his time (even on a rainy day) and we talked about each tree and the problems and likely chances of survival. That same day, we decided on a course of action and within a week the tree removal team came and did their work in less than a day and with exceptional professionalism. (They removed over 12 redwood tees). Rates were very reasonable for such a large job and the 3-person team worked incredibly quick and cleanly. I was impressed that Frank came out in the morning of the removal job to personally review the plan with the team. The job foreman, John, was there the whole day and kept me up to date as they made progress and took care of little things they hadn't even quoted for like removing and chipping a big pile of citrus branches + brush that my gardner had failed to dispose of. for some time. They didn't nickel+dime for this work nor the few additional trees that we decided needed to be culled. Some nice perks are that once you are a customer, you can sign up for "free mulch". If they are in your area after other tree trimming jobs, they will happily deliver the chips to a designated spot on your property when they have leftovers! I thought this was a fair and economically pro-active way to promote recycling and avoid more waste going into landfill or through a more expensive central processing center. I am still reserving one star because we are still in the process of trying to 'heal' some of the remaining redwoods and will see how it goes with some lab diagnosis (they waived the fees for this) and pest treatment as well as the active watering that will be needed to keep them healthy. In short, a very good set of people to work with. read more

On Feb. 20 of 2017, the biggest storm in 100 years hit the Bay Area, and one of the huge Eucalyptus branches broke and fell into my back yard from the "public right of way" between the curb and the sidewalk. I immediately got a tree pruning permit from City of San Jose to work on 4 big trees there, and started to look for a Tree Specialist according to the list given by the city. I was lucky to find the Bartlett Tree Experts willing to squeeze me in for an estimate as tree companies were swamped with urgent orders at that time. The Arborist Scott came on time, and gave me a very reasonable estimate. On March 3, Scott and his crew came with two huge trucks. James, Josh, and Juan worked from 8 am till close to 3 pm. They did an excellent job, and left with all 4 trees pruned nicely, the surrounding area cleaned up, and pruned-down branches chipped and removed. Then they did another job for me on May 23, cutting down two entire trees, and trimmed another. This time Scott's crew included two gentlemen---Josh and Arturo. Again it was a superb job. They are in great demand, so I was not expecting them to do the tree work exactly on time, but to my surprise, they were not too far off schedule; in fact they were a little early on the second smaller job. read more

I have been using Bartlett for years now and they have always taken excellent care of our trees, everything from pruning the olives and matens as well as fertilization issues. Kevin always has recommendations to better their health. This year I have to sheepishly admit I got 2 other bids as I was under a time constraint and Kevin was out of town attending a seminar. As it turned out, the other bids were far more costly (shhh, please don't tell Kevin!) and he was able to come out immediately upon his return and schedule the pruning forthwith, all within a couple of days and within my time frame! If you're in need of expert tree advice? Need trees pruned? Are your trees healthy? Several weeks ago, I discovered that our crepe myrtle had a disease. We love this tree and it's 18 yrs old. Didn't want to lose it. We had also procrastinated on pruning the crepe myrtle and a large ash tree in our front yard. Timing was awful as we were leaving for vacation. Morgan, from Bartlett returned my call and agreed to come out, take a look at the trees and give me a call. All good. After making a site visit, Morgan called me and explained that our crepe myrtle had aphids. It would need a spray to kill the bugs. By the end of the week (while we were on vacation), Bartlett sent out two crews, one to prune the two trees in our yard and another crew to spray the diseased tree. Morgan also checked several other trees while he was out. We returned two weeks later and both trees looked great. Initially, I spoke to Niki, who was most helpful and helped schedule the work. Morgan was honest and described what work needed to be done. I was very impressed with my communications with Niki and Morgan on several phone conversations. We'll be using Bartlett Tree service again for future tree questions and/or recommendations for new plantings. read more

These guys are super professional. I got their name from Our City Forest after I called them in desperation. All the "arborists" I had called already wanted to cut down our beautiful, mature (terribly overgrown) pepper tree at the rear of our property which was providing a nice screen from the apartment complex behind. I was starting to suspect they just wanted to fee that came with cutting down this huge tree. Scott from Bartlett came out and assessed the tree, looking for disease and infestations (no one else had done that) and declared that we could save our tree. I ultimately used another equally professional company to trim the tree (all the arborists from Our City Forest said it was worth saving), but I would absolutely recommend this company. We have a small HOA and our trees had been neglected for a few years. We have a large sycamore and a tall palm tree that were our primary focus. I have a large oak that also needed a little work, but that was negotiated separately. We sought five competitive bids, which was an interesting and educational experience. One company didn't bother to bid because the job was too small for them to consider. Some bid very high, probably for the same reason. Bartlett Tree Experts was our final choice, but not only because of price. Upon making the initial appointment, I received an email with a photograph and brief biography of the arborist. The representative, Sean Davis, was on time for the estimate, and understood our needs and our budget. The proposal included a link to their certificate of insurance. On the day of the work, everyone showed up prior to the scheduled start time. In talking to the men who would be doing the work, I learned that they have all attended various training classes and also know a lot about trees. We completed the walkthrough, and work began promptly at 8. Everything was completed and cleaned up by 10:30. I still marvel at how amazing the palm tree looks. We engage the experts because they know better than we do how to plant trees so that they flourish. That's why we hired Bartlett Tree Experts to plant a Blue Aptos Sequoia to replace our beloved Monterey Pine that succumbed to drought and beetles. They planted one tree, telling us not to over-water it. We followed the instructions, but the tree died. Bartlett planted another tree at no charge. Same instructions. Top of the tree seemed again to be dying. I purchased a long probe moisture meter and discovered very dry conditions. Bartlett came back to check the tree only when I called them and said I feared the same fate. They said they didn't know what was wrong with the roots or soil. Yes, they refunded our money, but now we have another tree whose fate might well be the same. Said they wouldn't do anything further. We don't want money--we want a live tree! Beyond me why, after the first experience, they didn't early on make a brief return visit to check on the tree. Certainly not a big expense of time. And that they claim no knowledge of soil conditions--if not they, who? Very strange, and disappointing! read more

I live in Purcellville Virginia and have had my trees fertilized by Bartlett for several years. Some of my Kwanzan Cherries were 18 -20 feet tall which made it difficult for me to trim, so I thought I'd be smart instead of hurting myself and call the local "tree expert" to trim my trees for wind tolerance and crossed branches. Tonight I came home, after being charged $450 dollars to find my beautiful Kwanzan Cherry trees topped and reduced to trees that I could buy at the nursery for less than$100 dollars. If I had to replace one of those trees before the butcher job today I would have to pay at least $650. I am completely displeased and Bartlett has been fired. TOPPING trees is a major NO-NO for the heath of the tree. Any arborist knows this and now I am questioning the caliber of "experts" they are employing. Please be cautious if you want to use their services. I recommend Arborgast. What a huge mistake. read more
