Went there for lunch today. They forgot to make our food (understood - accidents happen) so it took awhile. Ended up getting it to-go due to time restraints. You can tell it was a rush job. Clumps of cheese squares in the wrap. Had to try & eat the wrap with a fork because there was no way to lift it. Also found a long hair in the one half of the wrap, which ended the meal for me. Really wish they had descriptions of their menu when you are ordering. Just has what it is but not the ingredients / make-up of it. My son and I went here on a Sunday for my birthday lunch. Previously we have had good service and food . I should have left when sign on door said no water and take out only. We proceeded to go in and order and the woman who was helping us was complaining that we should not be open and that her cook leaves at 2pm. We received our to go food and my son's pulled pork which he stated that the bun stale and my California chicken sandwich which was dry and bread was over toasted . Love this place! I've only been for breakfast but they have some of the best coffee in the area. You wouldn't think looking at the outside, but the menu is extremely diverse and everything I've had has been great. I most recently had the Eggs Florentine, and they did not disappoint. I've also had the banana crepes in the past, which i would recommend getting the syrup on the side, as they really like to pour it on (something my husband did not complain about.) You also can't go wrong with any of the pastries. They have beautiful cookie trays for the holidays, and the cupcakes are incredible. All of the breakfast pastries are solid choices too, but the croissants are my personal go-to. Stopped in for an after dinner treat tonight. It's so hard to decide what to get when the display cases are full of the most amazing desserts! We settled upon a Lemon Bombe, Lemon Coconut Bar and a Cannoli. The Lemon Bar is amazing! The lemon center is ooey and gooey, tart but not too much, and the coconut meringue topping is so delicious. So cute! Have been here twice now, first time for brunch. I had waffles and they were so yummy! The coffee was so good and strong too :) just how I like it. Tonight I stopped back for just a snack, OH MY GOD! The pecan bar was the most amazing thing I ever put my lips on. I have stopped for two different birthday cakes, the workers are always super nice and efficient. We once tried the vanilla with raspberry filling and it was quite amazing, next we tried the red velvet. I'm a hard critic with my red velvet and this one was truly amazing!! It's a little on the expensive side, but the variety of sweets and cool decor makes the atmosphere worth the price. On my first trip I had a little bit of everything while I was there. I had a great pepperoni roll, followed by a generous portion of key lime pie -- complete with shaved white chocolate -- and washed down with an ace iced latte. On my second trip the line was crazy long which I understand because the sweets are amazing. However the intention of my trip was to get an espresso drink (in an effort to avoid Starbucks) and when I went to drink it, my espresso was quite burnt. However, my Pecan Bar more than made up for it. And my first coffee was delicious, so I'm sure it was just a flub up because they were so busy. I am so disappointed to say this. I have been a frequent patron at Bartram's for the last 7 years. It has gone downhill so much lately. I was there today with five of my friends and we were waiting for a table and they were so rude. We ordered coffee and drinks and were waiting to get food once we had a table. She asked us twice if we were going to order or leave and what we were doing and we said waiting for a table. It was uncomfortable and she was so rude. Just staring at us. Never again. This isn't the first time she's been rude and I am over it. I've tried ordering food and they just don't answer the phone, they have attitudes. Go anywhere else. Since moving out of the city I've longed for a good bakery to buy French macarons. Look no further - at 0.99 a pop they are a little pricier than the average cookie but SO GOOD. Their selection of treats isn't overwhelming which is nice for someone as indecisive as I am. My favorite treats are the chocolate cupcake, the apple strudel and the chocolate macaron. Even better, their service is friendly and whenever my one year old son is with me they always throw in a free cookie. One tip - it's always cheaper to buy in the evening as things are discounted. So if you don't mind buying breakfast treats the night before it'll be a little easier on your wallet. I've found that their pastries taste just as good one day later. read more

A great bakery cafe in this area. Love coming here for a brunch meal. I always get the classic eggs benedict. It satisfies my craving for hollandaise sauce. The creamy tangy sauce, poached egg, Canadian ham, and crispy English muffin are just the perfect combination. The side of home fries that came with it were really lacking flavor, so bland I didn't bother finishing them. Their omelets are always good as well. Update to my last review- like I mentioned before, this was my #1 spot to dine for any meal. I love the local cafe atmosphere. So, i wanted to give them another shot.. my girlfriend and I would stop in for lunch every other Monday or so.. usually it was good but never phenomenal- but that's okay. Then, it happened.. as we're sitting at the table (which are WAY too small by the way) she starts picking at her macaroni and cheese. She asks me to try it, suggesting that it had a funny taste. She was right, it did. But neither of us could pin point what the taste was. After 5 min of trying it and analyzing what the problem could be, she came across a few odd colored noodles, like a green color. She picks them out and starts observing.. squeezes the noodles and just as we hoped wouldn't happen- mold. We were eating moldy Mac and cheese. I have no idea how this happened but we didn't even tell management. We were so disgusted that we just got up and left. Never again. read more

On all 3 visits (spread apart) , The tables were completely filthy. Sticky, spilled coffee. The cleanliness definitely has something to be desired. Service is just like tables.... filthy. Not sure if it is the area, but the employees are extremely stuck up and rude. Unfortunately, this place will never again have my business. This was my first time here and man I'm glad I stopped in! I was craving something sweet and decided to check this place out. It's in a crowded little shopping plaza so park kinda sucked. On entering the store it was like a punch of fresh baked goods and coffee. The first thing you lay your eye on straight ahead is the cakes and my o my they look insane! I'm not a big cake person I'm more cookie team but the cake was tempting. I browsed around looking at all the options as everything looked so good. I noticed a "5 later bar" and I use to work at a coffee shop that has them so I knew it was a must. On checking out the lady was very friendly and got me by surprise when she said would you like that warmed up? I said well of corse that would be lovely. She said have a seat and with in about a minute she was on her way over with a warm plate and silverware. It smelled fantastic I couldn't wait to dig in! I push the knife in and it just pops in to the top layer of caramel and slides like butter. I was taken away in a nostalgic state as it brought back memories of my coffee shop days. The taste was so good and it all played together so well. I'm not a big fan of coconut surprisingly but I must say the coconut really blended perfectly here. The brown sugar shortbread crust was to die for the perfect sweetness. The cleanliness of this establishment was wonderful as well. They have a lot of choices here for anyone's taste preference. A really nice bakery café. Our local version of Panera of sorts. I thought this when I first went in as I worked at Panera at the time. Where are they better than Panera? Well, it's a small local company for one, which I prefer. They have a MUCH larger selection of bakery items than Panera does. They really have something for everybody. This includes a flour less chocolate torte cake, which I REALLY LOVE!. Panera has ZERO flour less offerings. Where is Panera better than them? Well, Bartam house is REALLY pricey. More so than Panera. They also don't offer, or at least promote if they do, that most of their foods are organic and hormone free like Panera does. Panera still has a rewards program too. Panera also donates all unsold breads and pastries to homeless organizations each day. Everything you see was made fresh over night or during the day. NO baked items are left over from the day before at Panera. Otherwise, Bartram's people really do try to be warm, friendly, and helpful. A few of the other bakery items I've tried are really good though I do try to avoid flour most of the time. They have an artichoke soup which is really good. A few of the other foods I've tried were just fine. I've had a couple of sandwich items and breakfast a few times. Good food but nothing extraordinary, at least not that I've discovered so far. So with just OK - good food and not being organic and hormone free I can't see how they justify their prices. At least, again, it is a small local company. Most Panera's actually are franchises and not corporate owned. However, in our area they are all owned by one big company from OH. Local, kind of, but small, no. If nothing else at least give it a shot. Try it a few times and decide for yourself. At the very least it is worth a chance. read more

Been here a few times for lunch, and stopped in for a pastry another few times. Service has always been quick enough to suit me. While it is called a Bakery, and they specialize in a delightful assortment of pies, and cakes, and cookies, and more; they also have a good selection for lunch. I've had bot the New Orleans Poboy and the California Club. I cannot attest to the authenticity of the poboy, but I can attest to it's quality. It was a large sandwich, full of chicken and sausage. Not greasy at all, and well seasoned. The California Club got its name (i assume) from the liberal use of avocado. The Club was delicious and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. For sides I've tried the macaroni and cheese and the haluski. The mac and cheese was a bit disappointing. The sauce was on the runny side, and tasted a bit generic. On the other hand, the haluski was excellent. Their deserts are absolutely wonderful. Their carrot cake is worth devouring, as are their lemon coconut bars. The only complaint about their peanut butter brownie is that it might be too rich to finish in one sitting (is that really a complaint?). I never leave there without having a snicker-doodle cookie also. I cannot attest to their coffee, but their iced tea is quite good. It is fresh brewed, fairly frequently. In nicer weather, they have a few tables and chairs out front. While there isn't much to look at but a parking lot and rt19, its always nice to have somewhere you can enjoy a cigarette while you wait for your food. read more

I wanted to purchase some slices of pie and assorted cookies for a family event - I've been to the restaurant for lunch a number of times and while the food was very good, the service was lacking. As Bartram's pastries are exceptional we decided to stop by and pick up the items listed above. It was Sunday at 2:00, the restaurant was busy but not packed. There was one customer in line waiting ahead of me, she indicated she had been waiting for quite a while , one of the two front end employees was waiting on a customer and the other employee was doing something with one of two cash registers. After 10 minutes of not being acknowledged, the customer ahead of me walked out in frustration wishing me luck. I moved closer to the register expecting the employee who was counting cash to acknowledge me and indicate she or someone else would be with me shortly. However, she did not look up or acknowledge my presence. After another 5 minutes of standing there, the employee who had been waiting on a customer completed the transaction and walked quickly back to the kitchen. Still the employee counting cash did not look up or recognize me or the customer who entered after me. The employee who had walked into the kitchen stuck her head out and said she would assist me. She was pleasant and very helpful. The employee counting cash and looking at the register did not look up even after finishing her work on the registers, she turned her back and walked into the kitchen stopping to chat with another kitchen employee. When she did return to the counter, the cash counter did speak to me and asked me if I needed a receipt. Which had already been addressed. No one - including the staff working in the kitchen, who looked out from time to time during the more than 15 minutes I waited to be acknowledged, said a word to me or to the other waiting customers. I was disappointed and frankly embarrassed by the treatment and the experience. I contacted Bartram via their website and completed their satisfaction survey, indicating what occurred and that I'd appreciate being contacted to share my feedback personally. As there has been no recognition of my experience I've decided to share it on Yelp. If you plan to spend good money for baked goods - think before you choose Bartram. For a similar quality of product, or better and a significantly better experience - i.e. feeling valued as a customer check out Bethel Bakery, Potomac Bakery, Lincoln Bakery in Bellevue or Giant Eagle.....Bartram obviously doesn't need the business. read more

I just tried the White Truffle Raspberry cake (with buttercream frosting). It was over the top! I have a big sweet tooth and have sampled a lot of baked goods in Pittsburgh; this is at the top now (next to Prantl's or Party Cake Shop Burnt Almond Torte. I used to travel over an hour to enjoy Bartham House Bakery. Last night was my last trip. Purchased four cupcakes. The cupcakes were so stale, I just threw the last one away. It's a shame the bakery felt the need to sell theses cupcakes and lose three customers than take a loss and retain their reputation. If this was the first bad experience I had at this bakery, I chalk it up to an off day. This was the third bad experience, so time for me to take my business elsewhere. I hate to have to write this review. I have been here two other times since my sister introduced me to this place last week. Each time has been great and extremely enjoyable. I love their food and pastries. However, I just left there right now for the third time expecting the same experience. Yeah, no. This is for the service only and I was not made to feel welcome AT ALL today. I had been wanting to try their breakfast so I did. It was fabulous. I ordered the eggs, sausage with a croissant. I dined in by myself. I was working on my computer during this time. When I went to order their was a heavy set guy taking people's orders. He was very rude, not friendly and was acting like he was doing everyone around him a favor by being there. Okay pal, get over yourself! He never said hi, hello, I will be right with you, nothing. So finally some girl came up to take my order. Okay whatever. I sat down, worked a bit and my food came quickly. Like I stated earlier, it was very good. After finishing, I sat around worked and waited because I knew I wanted to try a couple other pastries. I was trying to wait to see if someone else would work the register because I honestly did not want to interact with that guy. However, the opportunity never presented itself so I went up to get a couple pastries. He said "what do you want" when I approached him. Like I was bothering him from doing his freaking job. I still tried to make small talk and he wasn't having it. Then he didn't even want me to stay and tried for me to get the items to go instead of staying put which I thought was weird and yet again rude. By the way, not one person asked me how anything was the entire time I was there. I literally cannot wait to high tail it back to LA. At least everyone in LA is warm, friendly and welcoming.
