Bartz BBQ is a catering service in the South Bay that makes very, very high-quality barbecue that is some of the best in Southern California. Their brisket is amongst the best that I have had. To get Bartz BBQ food, you have to follow him on social media and see where he will have his pop-up events. I've ordered his catering for family events on holidays (thanksgiving, christmas) and it's consistently been a hit. If you see wagyu brisket on his menu, then it's worth buying at whatever he's charging for it. The juiciness of his Wagyu brisket is something that you can't find at a Southern California restaurant, even at Michelin-recommended Heritage BBQ, where I've had inconsistent experiences (from good to very, very dry). Their other BBQ options are also very good and fairly priced. I appreciate Mr. Bartz' mission to offer high quality barbecue at a fair, accessible price point. Bartz took pride in offering $6 wagyu burgers for a long time and he has an almost, cult-like following. Therein lies my only hesitation in generally recommending Bartz to everyone. The owner was very cool. The wait was not long at all. I like the smoky flavor that the brisket had. I wasn't a huge fan of the Mac n Cheese texture but I tried some other sides such as the cream corn, chili, and baked beans. I would recommend the other sides. BRISKET! Probably some of the best brisket I've ever had. My wife's favorite was the pork burnt ends (my 2nd favorite item). Pork ribs were good but were overshadowed by brisket and burnt ends. BBQ sauce was pretty amazing as well, perfect combo of sweet and tangy. With how good the meat was, I had high hopes for the sides but was left underwhelmed. The smoked bbq beans looked great but the beans were significantly undercooked. Some may prefer it that way but I don't. The cream corn was simple, nothing special. The Mac n cheese and cornbread were also just ok. With how amazing the brisket, burnt ends and bbq sauce were, you could've given me paper napkins as sides and I still would've had a great meal. A few weeks ago I signed up for the Lynwood 5K. A few days before the race, Bartz Barbecue posted on IG that they'd be having a Saturday morning breakfast sandwich pop up outside the Alondra Golf Course parking lot. I secured a pickup time slot via their website and after the race, arrived about 15 minutes prior to my pickup time. After meeting Dustin and Malcom, they mentioned that I was the first to arrive so they went ahead and prepared my breakfast sandwich. Dustin slapped some homemade thick cut bacon on the griddle and the delicious smell immediately permeated the air, very exciting stuff. He smashed down a burger and slapped on some cheese. Meanwhile, Malcom prepared the egg and buns. A few moments later, Dustin assembled and finished my breakfast sandwich with a wonderful salsa verde. Post 5K, the breakfast sandwich was everything I could have hoped for. The yolk/ salsa combination that develops as you eat cuts through the richness of the thick cut bacon and wagyu in a way that each bite tastes like the first. The thick cut bacon is very lean and meaty and the wagyu is tasty and not over seasoned. Customers after me ordered the Anti-Dream breakfast sandwich received fresh slices of brisket to top their sandwiches. Dustin was kind enough to offer me a slice of the end, which is arguably the best tasting part. The pastrami crust was exceptional and the brisket itself was moist and as tender as it gets. At this point I turned to notice a line of 7-10 customers eagerly watching me finish my sandwich, impressive for 9:45am on a Saturday. Overall, the breakfast sandwich was a grand slam, the brisket was amazingly flavorful and tender, and Dustin and Malcom were wonderful hosts. Trying to find legit bbq in Los Angeles is like trying to find a needle in an absurdly large haystack littered with Kombucha bottle but these guys MAKE.IT.HAPPEN!!! I discovered them about a year ago at La Ale works and have been a hardcore fan ever since. In that time they've made some great upgrades in their service and their meat quality. Yes the premium meats come at a premium price but I promise you it is worth every penny and the portions are more than enough to share. I especially love the pork belly burnt ends and Wagyu brisket. The Prime Beef rib is also amazing. Bartz also does sides awesomely well. Most bbq spots are a miss or just okay with sides, but their bbw beans with bits of smoked meat are phenomenal as well as the creamed corn and mac n cheese. I usually get double of these when I share meats with my friends because I refuse to share sides that good. Pro TIp: GET THERE EARLY. This food truck is out in front of Trademark Brewing most Fridays - I discovered it when they were at Trademark's official grand opening a couple months ago, but I'd already just gotten food, so at that time, I just tried their creamed corn, which was $3, pretty large, and totally delicious. Anyway, I was back at Trademark last Friday and so were they, so I finally had a chance to try the main event - the meat. I'm a huge fan of burnt ends, and theirs were some of the best I've had - super juicy, flavorful, perfectly smoked pork burnt ends, and with no wait. Great pairing with beer, too! Officially they only sell full orders for $12, but they were awesome enough to sell me a half order for $6 - and it was still a pretty decent size (3 fairly large pieces - not enough for a meal, but excellent for a snack.) I also tried their mac & cheese, which wasn't bad, but definitely not as good as the creamed corn - it was a little bland. I'd give them 4 1/2 stars for that if I could (and for the effectively 10% cash discount, which is kinda lame), but the burnt ends were just too good to go all the way down to 4 stars. read more

Wow. Holy bananas. This place is EPIC. My friend called me literally the day before he planned to host a party, and I found Bartz. While Bartz was otherwise employed at another catering gig, they were SO cool to make our order and let us pick it up. To say the food was good doesn't even begin to say it. The wagyu pastrami, Chile verde, Mac and cheese, creamed corn (out of this WORLD...seriously, its sweet like corn and cream, savory like thyme...do NOT sleep on this dish. Do they smoke the cream? I don't know...), pork belly, prime pastrami beef rib, chicken... We had about 10-12 people and everyone was absolutely and ahhing over the food. Phenomenal. Texas style, but they also gave us some Carolina style mustard sauce. Honestly the way I judge barbecue is by how the meat tastes without the sauce, the smoke ring, etc. . Thanksgiving 2020: An Incredible Turkey!!! This was my third time ordering from Bartz. My first review, which you can read below, was really about Dustin Bartz's slab of pork ribs. Truly the best I have tasted. The second time out was two slabs of ribs plus bacon mashed potatoes, and BBQ beans and brisket...again great eating. So I ordered a Smoked Turkey about a month ago for Thanksgiving but a week before Thanksgiving we decided we wouldn't have a traditional get together because of the COVID flare-up. So I carved and packaged the bird up for the families that were invited to dinner. I had also ordered the rest of the Thanksgiving feast from Clementines in West Los Angeles...around $240. But so well worth it. The star of the meal really was the turkey. As I write this review on Sunday morning all that's left is a wing and some meat on the carcass. I sure wish my mother-in-law was still alive as she always made an incredible turkey soup. This is a 4.5 Star Review Great flavors going on with their bbq. I had the Wagyu Brisket and a Southwest Brisket Sausage....both super tasty. Brisket had amazing flavors...the bark is KILLER! My only complaint is I wish it were a bit more tender. But maybe I should try the Wagyu Pastrami Brisket next time? The Brisket Sausage had a great texture and the flavors really came through....just a little bit of spice. The casing was a little chewy but it didn't effect the flavor of the meat whatsoever. Thank you, Dustin Bartz, for bringing your BBQ to the South Bay. You pop-up at area breweries and coordinate underground BBQ fests. You have some incredible meats, and we thank you. For $48, you and a few of your nearest and dearest (ideally 4-6 all together) can share a 4 meat combo with your choice of 4 sides. We had: Brisket: this is some of the most tender and perfectly seasoned Texas style brisket that I have had outside of Texas. It has a perfect fat cap and a gorgeous crust. A must order. Beef rib: another delicious choice that is not done by many. A rib is more than half a pound and is generously seasoned with a huge hunk of gorgeous, tender beef rib. Pastrami: the one that I made not order again. I loved the taste, and I loved it warm with the quick pickled cucumbers, but it was insanely salty. Over the top salty. BBQ is salty, but this one goes a bit far. Pork Belly Burnt Ends: alone worth the trips to the ends of the county to eat. Tender cubes of pork belly are smoked and tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. The closest thing I have had is pig candy in Mobile, Alabama, and it doesn't hold a candle to this. Rich, smokey, delicious, wonderful meat. Mac and Cheese: personally not a fan, but taste is subjective and everyone else loved it. It is the classic overcooked pasta with oodles of American cheese and a fair amount of salt. I would skip it. Creamed Corn: totally simple - cream and corn - but well prepared. Sweet and wonderful. Smoked BBQ Beans: because they are smoked, they are not overly sweet. The mixture of beans gives a blend of textures and flavors that are harmonized with bacon and that sweet and smokey sauce. There is BBQ sauce available, if you must, but you don't need it with classic Texas 'Q. I only used a bit mid Beef Rib because it was 2" high and it added a lot of flavor halfway between the spice crust and the bone. Otherwise, who needs sauce when there is so much flavor? I had these guys cater my wedding and the food was amazing. so good. in fact, I kept telling friends to take home leftovers and too many of them listened to me because I was only left with one sausage and a rib after everyone had left. those filthy animals! We are here to talk BBQ. We ordered the 3 meat plate and went with the pulled pork, Brisket and the huge beef rib. This came with two sides but we went with three. We had the mac n cheese, BBQ baked beans and the cream corn. Amazing! Pulled pork - The pulled pork was very tender, smokey and about 1/2 a pound. Had great flavor and you just couldn't get enough of it. Along side with some BBQ sauce. Awesome! Brisket - The brisket was great. Very juicy and very tender. You could taste the smoke and see the smoke ring in the meat. The knife would cut through it like butter it was so tender. Dipped it in a little BBQ sauce or no sauce at all. It was finger licking good. I want to say this was also 1/2 a pound of meat. Beef Rib - This beef rib was huge. This had to be 1/2 a pound of meat. This had a nice bark on it and you can definitely taste the smoke on this rib. I have had other ribs from other places that were tough and dry but not this one. This one was juicy and tender and all meat. You can also see the smoke line on the rib. I'm glad we picked it. The sides were so good that we went back for some more of the mac n cheese and cream of corn. Mac N Cheese - cheesy and smokey with a nice crust on it. Man I could not get enough so I went back for more. Very silky and creamy. You can't go wrong with this one. Cream Corn - Another great choice. Creamy, smokey and I would have to say buttery. As I said earlier I had to go back and get some more because it just had a richness to it that was very flavorful. BBQ Beans - BBQ beans were good but I preferred the other two sides over the beans. My bf raved about this place a few times when he was in LA and usually brought me some leftovers but this weekend we were up in LA and I got to try some right out of the smoker. We got the 4 meat plate and chose the brisket, pork sausage, pork belly burnt ends and pork ribs. We also got 1 beef rib along with baked beans and smoked mac and cheese. Mmmm... everything was pretty darn delicious. The meats were flavorful and super tender. The bf is pretty picky with his mac and cheese, but this one gets a two thumbs up all around. They also have homemade pickles an pickled onions. The pickled onions really help cut through the grease and are a great compliment to the food. That creamed corn is something else-- smoky, creamy, delicious. Bottom line: get the creamed corn and the brisket no matter what. Nice guy, good food, and easy pick up! Ok food is totally a solid 4 stars. They were already out of the beef ribs and wagyu brisket so I settled for massive amounts of pork. Everything was smoked well and there are some very interesting items on the menu which included brisket lasagna, bbq spaghetti, pastrami pork belly and ABTs with pork belly. From a crearive standpoint, they went above and beyond with things I havent tried before and seemingly did it well. So why just 3 stars? Well I take issue with 2 things. 1. After taking a bite of my bbq and tasting their Original Bartz Bbbq Tangy and Smokey sauce, something struck as very familiar. I walked to my car convinced that I knew the flavor but couldnt figure why it felt like I had tasted this before. I so happened to park next to their smoker and one of the guys just so happened to be there tending to the bbq. Right next to him... a big bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's. That's what it was. Nothing wrong with that sauce but don't advertise it as your own especially if you don't doctor it up with your own spin on it. 2. My biggest gripe by far is that written at the very bottom of today's butcher paper menu board stated that there was a charge of 10% for all credit card transactions. Everyone look up California Civil Code Section 1748.1(a). Not only is it illegal to include a surcharge on credit tranactions, the actual percentage they impose is downright insulting. Square (their POS system) only charges 2.75% on credit tranactions so, not only do they cover that fee with their surcharge, they make an extra 7.25% to pocket for themselves. Not cool at all.
