Came here after work around 630pm on a Tuesday for a coworkers birthday. Not crowded at all. We seated ourselves as a party of 9 (plenty of seats against the wall on the right side when you walk in) and ordered drinks. Fortunately for us, a coworker used to work here and another coworker comes often. They both knew the two bartenders working which was helpful when it came to ordering drinks. We first had a Yuzu cocktail that one of the bartenders made on the spot. It tasted like a lemonade and I loved it! The workers were friendly and attentive with refilling the complimentary popcorn and when my coworker accidentally spilled a drink. We moved towards the back of the store which had 2 tables for beer pong! Walking further back were the bathrooms and I even noticed there were darts. Stopped by the basement to meet some friends and I was genuinely surprised with this unassuming hole in the wall! It turned out to be a great small spot that definitely should be a go-to for those looking for an intimate place to grab drinks with friends in the neighborhood. My friend and I arrived around 5:30 on a Friday afternoon. When we approached the spot we realized it's a walk down staircase thats lower than street level. When you get to the entrance it's hidden by an old school coke machine that you've got to open to step into the space. Once inside you walk into a dimly neon lit space that has a bar on the left side, as well as tables against the wall, and a space in the back for beer pong and other table games! My friend and I sat at a table and our server came to us to take our drink orders. Since we came during their happy hour (5-8) we were able to get a few deals on our orders. I went with the pumpkin ale ($7) which was hoppy and filling. I'd definitely suggest it if you want a more neutral beer that still hits strong for the fall season. Came here on a Sunday night and Friday night with a few friends. Sunday is definitely more dead (as expected). There is a huge open space, so it may be kind of awkward for dates. On Friday night, however, man oh man this place is packed! I don't mean this in a bad way either. There is just a lot life here haha. The entryway is really cute. I remember I was showing my friends who were visiting the city this place, and they were so skeptical that there was life in this dark and dirty street in Chinatown. The door is tucked away down the steps and is designed as a coca cola cooler door! I got the Shanghai Mule, HK Milk Punch, and Made In Brooklyn. Made in Brooklyn was my favorite drink by far. It was really refreshing especially with the cucumber and lemon! HK Milk Punch had a smokey aftertaste that I was not expecting nor I was a fan. The Shanghai Mule was nothing special in my opinion. You open the "coca cola" sign and a different world awaits you. This is a bar with fun games (beer pong, darts and others" but the ambiance is cool and the drinks are strong! What I liked best is that I was able to find a table and the bartenders were quick. The music was controlled by an aux cord but the drunk birthday girls in control of that cord that night made the music so much fun! And of course, I put in a request for some songs. Be advised this place is underground with no windows. Bathroom rating: I went twice. The first time, one bathroom was good and the other was nasty. The second time I went, the good bathroom turned gross. It was co-Ed and I think the guys peed all over the seat. Oh well, it's a bar so what do you expect? Overall, I would come again because I had a great time. Oddly enough, I saw quite a few police cars parked in the area so there may be a precinct nearby, I'm not sure. Came here on a Thursday night 'round 7pm. The place is very easy to find. There's a bright yellow neon light that reads, "Basement." You walk down the staircase to the CocaCola door, the handle is on the left side. There is a bouncer when you immediately enter the door. The position of him is a bit awkward. Which I'll go into detail about later. The bar was pretty empty which was a nice surprise. The place reminds me of a PODHOTEL. Everything is lit up with backlights and neon. It plays the card hard. I grabbed a seat barside and ordered the Made in Brooklyn. A gin based drink (BK GIN!!!) garnished with dried flowers and blood orange. Really really tasty. The bartender was awesome too, He did me a solid and put the Rangers game on. I really appreciated it. 5/5 for him. The next drink I had was a 5 Spiced Life. Not that spicy, but alright. The beer pints are hardly pints but the same price of a pint... The only thing that is kind of a bummer is the prices here. They're more 12 dollar cocktails than 14/18 dollar cocktails. The bartender had more attitude than personality and kept saying it's better if I came late night. (Main reason for my rating) How about focus on being friendly and telling me about cool drinks you can make? Def did not get a warm inviting feeling. Anyway I got some blueberry drink, which was ok but seemed a bit watered down. The monkey was cute. Each order comes with a cute kettle corn popcorn box. Eventually a few more people joined and the waitress tried her best to keep up with everyone. THIS PLACE WAS SO FUN!! My new favorite bar in nyc! Loved how it was underground and hidden - which gave it a cool factor. Bouncers outside. But at the same time it was casual enough to wear what you wanted. They had two light up beer pong tables (cups filled with water). The crowd was young (but not like maru / ktown vibes). Basement (or is it #basement?) is a super fun place. They take their inspiration from Hong Kong game bars. As such, they have a bunch of digital tables for dice games (like craps, and this other tabletop game I'd never heard of before where the board looked like Sorry). Too cultural for you? Not to worry - they have beer pong tables and darts in the back. Pro-tip: to get in, go down the stairs to the right of Cha Chang Tang and walk through the Coca Cola fridge door. Of course, with games comes sports. They have a bunch of TVs behind the bar for your favorite sportsball games. Plus, when we were there, they reserved the last TV for a terrible direct-to-DVD Steven Seagal movie. You'd think with all this bro-friendly accouterments, I would hate this place. But on the contrary, they also have an excellent cocktail program and one hell of a whiskey selection. Dennis the bartender is excellent. Almost every cocktail has one or two very Asian ingredients in them. And some are just Asian takes on classics. I had the Monkey King (Scotch, Cynar, blueberry rhubarb shrub, shiso, yuzu, and ginger) and it was really good. Also had their Chinatown Old Fashioned (with Suntory Toki, and ginger) and it was well-balanced and strong. Also tried one of the lighter cucumber gin drinks, which was also quite tasty and refreshing. I will have to place the caveat that I was here on a weeknight. I imagine this place gets turned up on weekends. There's a DJ booth near the front, and I bet those beer pong tables get some mileage. So plan accordingly! read more

I love this place - starting with the super cool neon sign leading you downstairs to the awesome Coca Cola door. As I walked in, I noticed some game tables and another neon sign in there too. So why 4 stars, you ask? I got there around 8:15pm for a late dinner and it wasn't packed at all. The crowds started to pick up an hour later. We started with some Calamari ($8) as our appetizer. For the entree, we got Petite Steak Frites ($18). The service here is pretty bad. It took almost 25 minutes just to get our appetizer and over 40 minutes to get out entree. Our waiter seemed to have forgotten about us when it started to get busy too. It was pretty frustrating. If it wasn't for that, this place would have gotten 5 stars! The food was phenomenal! The calamari was crispy and delicious. The sweet & spicy aioli was the perfect dipping sauce with it. The steak frites were also great. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and the truffle fries were super tasty and addicting. I was super happy with the food and the ambiance of this place but the service really ruined the vibe. Service was absolutely terrible. The wait staff was never around to check up on us. It was quite annoying especially when we WANT to order more... - Calamari: Super crunchy but way too much batter. I don't remember seeing any actual squid. - Steak & truffle fries: Seasoned very well. The steak was cooked exactly how we liked it (medium). - Tuna tart: Tasted good but I wish they gave us more tuna. - Banh mi: NOT a banh mi at all. It was a flatbread with thin sliced lamb just as described on the menu. Tasted spicy. - Cocktails: I had the Made in Brooklyn which was delicious. Overall the food was very heavy. Let us start with the good. It is a beautiful space with nice decor, a bright cool looking sign, and the atmosphere is a young, hip bar. It is a great idea to finally put a bar like this in the middle of Chinatown. It has a plain store front, so I guess it could be a "speakeasy/cocktail" bar, but not really. It is just a bar with some cocktails on the menu. The service is very slowwwww. The bartenders do not really have the sense of urgency when tending bar. It was not that busy, but it still took a while to get the order from me. They were very nice though. Once they got the order, it was fine. The drinks were NOT good. I got their take on the Old Fashion and it just did not work. It was not much of an Old Fashion, and very heavy on the booze. Old Fashions are already heavy on the booze. I do not remember my wife's order, but she was not impressed either. They had games, which my wife and I love games. There was someone passing out dice and even at 2am they allowed games. There was also beer pong which I have mixed feeling about... I also love beer pong, but it really confuses the theme. I assume they thought a basement of friends playing games, but I think they want to be upscale too. They are pretty new, so maybe things will improve.
