So the food is delicious, I order though door dash and my order was completely messed up, DoorDash don't refund, they offered a $1 back..what a joke. I called the restaurant and they where pretty awesome about it. No refund but I just hungry anyways they replace my meal the right way and I was able to pick it after work. People make mistakes but that's just being human and machines made crap food. Be kind and patient. The 5 stars is really because there food is great. read more

Fantastic food and even better service! Tonight my boyfriend and I came to Basil and he got his usual, two orders of skewered beef which comes on a hibachi stone that is lit for you. After the flame kept going out our waiter asked my boyfriend if he wanted it blow torched, and I thought he was joking, but our incredible waiter blow torched my boyfriend's beef skewers table side. He was so nice and sweet and really made our evening absolutely delightful! In addition I would like to say the array of options here is wonderful. I'm a vegetarian and my boyfriend basically hates vegetables and there are both amazing options that always taste great. I've been here probably around 10 times and I like to pick a different dish every time and I haven't run out of options yet! read more

Fabulous food but the WORST system for carry out!!!!! Saw an employee doing a curbside delivery outside, who mentioned that regular carry out pick up was inside and that I could use the door next to the bar. Walked into the bar, waited for a few mins until a server told me carry-out pick up was near the front door. Walked up to the front door & stood by the table where my order was sitting for 10 minutes before someone even came over to say anything - and that was only because another person walked in for a carry-out pickup!!! Hostess was quite rude and condescending, especially since my (already paid for) order had been sitting on the table the entire time. Never a problem with dine-in service or door dash from here so highly recommend the food but discourage trying to pickup an order until they get a better system and/or someone better equipped to handle a semi-busy weekend night :( read more

My husband and I wanted to go somewhere special for our anniversary and knew that the Basil Asian Bistro recently opened up in downtown Canton. I've been looking forward to trying out the restaurant as we have been missing Ricky Ly's all these years. We weren't disappointed. As expected on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was not crowded and we were greeted warmly and seated right away. The decor is very understated and retains the charm of the downtown area (exposed brick walls, punched tin ceilings) with subtle Asian decor. My husband is a carnivore, I'm a vegan, and the menu did not disappoint. Many of my favorites from Ricky Ly's were on the menu and my husband tried a dish that was new to him. There are many vegetarian options and the server mentioned that tofu could be substituted in other dishes. We started with the vegetable potsticker appetizer. Unfortunately when it arrived I discovered that we were given pork potstickers. The waiter was very apologetic and quickly replaced the dish with a fresh appetizer. For an entree I ordered the braised bean curd, a tofu dish with vegetables and a mild brown sauce, If you've never tried tofu before, this would be an excellent option to try. So delicious! Even my husband raved about it. He ordered the orange glaze chicken, which could have been prepared with beef, shrimp, or tofu. The sauce was slightly sweet with a kick of heat. This new restaurant has it all: a warm atmosphere, friendly servers, and a menu that is not overwhelming yet has the variety to please most tastes. The food was prompt and delicious, and the only issue we had with the food was quickly addressed. Our server (Alex) was very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. When this place is on, its my favorite restaurant in town. But it seems to be inconsistent with staff waiting on me and food preparation. I was with a group of 5. We ordered appetizers. A couple minutes after our appetizers arrived, he started bringing our entrees saying he 'wanted to get them to us soon because he had a large group coming in the next room'. But none of them had arrived yet. We could barely fit all the plates on our table. This wasn't all that made the service is bad though. This was the least happy waiter ever. Seemed kind of grouchy. He look like the host of that show diners drive-ins and dives. I got my favorite dish there as my lunch entree. The avocado curry. Usually it's swimming in an amazing sauce and I take the leftover sauce and pour it over my rice as a dish to take home. Well this trip there was virtually no sauce. It was still decently flavorful, but with minimal sauce it was lacking to be sure. Again usually when I'm there this place is amazing. A five star as far as I'm concerned. I live in Cleveland and we went here for a friends birthday and I'm already anxiously awaiting the next time we can drive an hour to eat here. It was DELICIOUS! We started with an order of Thai rolls which were the worst thing we had and still very good. They just tasted like a gourmet chicken nugget. Which was weird but not bad. But I ordered the avocado curry with the coconut rice and the flavor combination was fabulous. A little spicy, a little sweet... yum! My friend got the coconut spaghetti - another solid choice but I preferred mine. My husband got the tuna appetizer and really enjoyed it. He also got the sashimi sampler and thought everything tasted fresh. I throughly enjoyed my leftovers the next day and wished I lived just a little closer. Highly recommend! read more

Our main dishes, Pataya and Thai vegetables with tofu in a spicy curry sauce, were excellent. The restaurant was busy and the noise from conversations were a bit annoying. 4.5 for food quality; 1.5 for service. I was there this past Saturday with family members, (and despite my objections was seated right next to the kitchen). While the restaurant was somewhat busy, there were other tables in the main restaurant as well as the bar area. I politely asked and pleaded with hostess to NOT be seated at the last table next to the kitchen, yet this aloof and somewhat snooty individual suggested that it was NOT possible to sit anywhere else and that ' it would be fine where she put us'. It was not fine- multiple dropped trays , loud ambient kitchen noise and was bumped into by the wait/ bus staff all night long. It completely ruined the experience of one of my favorite downtown restaurants. To the owner and general manager: when a customer nicely asks for an alternative, it would be better to try and accommodate them. Being snooty, arrogant and dismissive is a turn-off and reduces the likelihood of repeat patronage. read more

Clean restaurant. Extremely kind staff. The waitress made sure to get our order in before the menu changed to dinner prices, which was nice. The soda had a strange taste like maybe the machine's lines hadn't been cleaned or something was wrong with the CO2? Food was pretty good. Enjoyed the asparagus tempura and General Tso's chicken. Wasn't terribly fond of the filling in the dumplings --it seemed like just plain pork and was flavorless. Would return to try different things, though. read more

This upscale asian restaurant has a fantastic location in downtown canton. I love the atmosphere as well as the food. I would come here for a night that I wanted to walk around canton. I have never had bad service whether it's sitting on the bar side or the dining room side. It is a smaller restaurant so it doesn't hurt to call, it gets pretty busy on a friday and saturday night. My go to meal is the chicken pad thai, I feel like you can never go wrong with that. Another amazing dish that you can't get anything like it is the sizzling steak. The meat is honestly cooked perfectly and it comes out still sizzling. Perfect flavor, the portion isn't huge so I recommend getting an appetizer if you're really hungry. overall, the food here is honestly really good and I feel like you can't go wrong with anything you get here. read more

We arrived about 9:00 and the restaurant closes at 10 so I can understand that it was the end of their day. I would give this place 4 stars but I was disappointed in the service. Other than to drop off our drinks and meals, we weren't checked on to make sure everything was to our liking. My shrimp pad Thai was delicious but my friend's meal was inedible due to too much salt. When she told our server that her dish was too salty, he answered with, "I'll be sure to let the kitchen know." I asked him if he would be kind enough to remove her meal from the tab as I didn't think she should pay for something she couldn't eat. He happily removed the meal from her tab but we wondered why that option wasn't given to her when she told him the food was inedible. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Canton. I'm only here for a month and constantly on the lookout for Asian/Thai food. This restaurant exceeded my expectations!!! The food is delicious and unique and the ambience and decor of the place is unequivocal. I had the Pad Thai, Red Curry and Basil Stir-fry, all delicious especially the Basil Stir-fry. I have been a regular customer of Basil since they opened and I have NEVER been disappointed. The food is incredible. The atmosphere is pleasing and it's always a great experience. Start with a mango martini. It comes bubbling with a piece of dry ice and is sinfully good. My favorite menu items are the avocado curry and pad thai. Don't leave without trying the house dessert. I've had Basil a few times, the food has always been great quality and taste. On this occasion, I ordered the Honey Sesame Chicken. The sauce was a little watery, but the chicken was excellent. +1 star Our waiter was super nice, almost too nice. +1 star Unfortunately, those are the only two good points in my dining experience. The food might be good, but the value is not. For the price, the portions need to be about twice the size. I expect to have leftovers at $8 per plate and up. I'm unsure if the Honey Sesame Chicken normally includes rice, but mine arrived without any. There was very little chicken, probably a few more than the dollar cost of the meal ($13). To make the dinner a normal size, I had to order rice. No leftovers, even with an order of rice. :( The service started off well, but got worse throughout the meal. Our waiter, although super nice, all but stopped checking on us after we got our food. My friend ordered a bottle of beer, the waiter returned more than 10 minutes later and said they didn't have it. So, my friend ordered a different beer, after at least an additional 15 minutes, the waiter returns with a Moscow Mule. Being very patient and understanding, my friend accepted the drink. If you have somewhere to be, (or a show to catch at The Palace Theater) and you want to eat here because it's close (next door). Try to plan at least 2.5 hours for dinner if you want to be early (get decent seats). Our visit took two hours and we were barely able to find seats at all. read more

This is probably one of my top three restaurants in northeast Ohio. My two go-to dishes are the Coconut Spaghetti, and the Avocado Curry. I get both with shrimp. Try the saki sampler/flight...you'll be surprised at how unique different sakis are. Do not leave this place without trying either the coconut ice cream or the spicy peanut butter ice cream. My first time here because I read all the good reviews but all four of us did not like it at all! The Crunchyroll was terrible, and there was actually the top hard lil pc of avocado in a roll! The lo mein noodles were way too salty. The honey chicken on a bed of lettuce, the lettuce was old and wilted and the brown rice that came with it was barely a quarter full. Unfortunately I did not think I had to check the brown rice till I got home or else I would've complained and by the time we are the food, they were already closed. Not happy at all and would never ever go back to this place. Don't waste your money! Not worth it! read more

we went here expecting excellent food only to be disappointed in our meal.. my husband had sweet and sour pork and i had thai pad which was not too bad but our meal was served unless then ten minutes. the chef (if there was one) had to microwave these dishes. there is no way my husbands was fixed fresh in that short of a time frame..
