Family was looking for sushi and since our favorite place is closed on Sundays, we thought we would try this place. We are visiting from out of town, but family members assured us this was a good place too. We were seated in a lovely place by the door, with views outside. Unfortunately NOBODY came to take any order for almost 20 minutes and this was after we alerted the host. Overall the food was great, but the service was so bad. The server blamed it on the kitchen, but the place was not busy when we arrived and maybe the kitchen would not be backed up if the servers took care of their tables in a timely manner. What a great restaurant in the downtown historic area of Brunswick. My Daughter and I ate lunch at Basil Thai and sushi on Saturday and enjoyed every aspect of our experience. First of all, our server, Chloe was friendly and very attentive. Second, TC the owner checked on us multiple times. Being originally from California, we know what great Thai food tastes like. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. We shared the yellow chicken curry and ordered the Pad see ew with chicken. The more traditional dish of Pad Thai is on the menu, but when I asked about Pad see ew, they said they could make it as well. Both dishes were amazing. Although I typically try and limit my sugar intake, I decided to splurge and order the Thai iced coffee. After several days of cooking at home, we ordered delivery from Basil Thai through DoorDash. Despite paying premium delivery fees and including a driver tip with our order, we received only two of the five dishes we ordered. My attempts to contact the delivery driver via text went unanswered. When I called Basil Thai, they informed me our complete order was still awaiting pickup. After being placed on hold, the staff member and manager insisted this was solely a DoorDash issue and refused to take any responsibility or arrange delivery. When I pointed out that DoorDash couldn't have picked up an order without the restaurant's release, the manager remained dismissive and repeatedly told me to contact DoorDash instead. As a business owner, I find this level of customer service unacceptable. While I rarely leave negative reviews, the restaurant's complete unwillingness to help resolve the situation or take ownership of the problem leaves me no choice. I gave them multiple opportunities to address the issue, but their dismissive attitude and lack of customer care mean they've lost my business permanently. read more

Went here early on a Friday evening with a party of 12. Nice ambiance, though the seating left something to be desired with regard to comfort. Had a spicy tuna roll as an appetizer, which was mediocre (Fancy Q on the island is much better). Did the Thai fried rice as my main course, which was good, but not great--it wasn't the most flavorful, though the pineapple was somewhat unique. While the owner or manager (not sure which) checked on us a few times and provided free shots for one member of the party who was celebrating a birthday, overall, the service was extremely slow, and it took almost an hour just to get our checks, which our server had to redo multiple times in order to ensure each individual's check was correct. In fact, the service was so slow that another party came in well after we were seated, ate their meal, departed, their table was cleaned, and another party seated and served at that table before we were done. While I'm sure large parties aren't the easiest to deal with, especially with separate checks, it felt excessive to be stuck in the restaurant for some 2 hours and 45 minutes for a simple meal (and we didn't even have dessert!). While I might give this place another shot, it would not be high on my list of local eateries. read more

I want to start off by saying I am surprised at the food we received this past Friday evening We have been eating here as regulars since moving here 2 years ago, the duck has always been our item to share but this Friday it was almost completely fat and almost no meat. Thai food in the Golden Isles is hard to come by. Thankfully, there is this place! In the gentrifying downtown area of Brunswick is where you'll find this hot spot. Open everyday but Monday, this is a great option. The wine list is impressive. I enjoyed a glass of Estancia from Paso Robles , CA on my first visit. For a mere $9! There are also cocktails and non alcoholic beverages as well. My husband had the Tom Yum. He rated it a 5/5 and was very happy. He got the fried rice and asked for a spice level of 7. It was pleasantly spicy. Another 5/5. He plans to do a 9, next time. We are spicy eaters! I got the Pad Thai. It was perfect except in all ways except it was the blandest Thai I've ever had. I did get chili flakes and poured a ton on. Still nothing. I added the chili garlic sauce after that which gave it heat but not quite right for Pad Thai. I plan to ask for basil in my Thai next time and that should do it. If you know, like really *know* Thai food, I highly recommend talking to you server. We had a fabulous server who when I go back, I know what to ask for exactly in terms of spice. I strongly recommend this gem no matter your experience with Thai food. Let's start off with my fiancée's prompt take on this restaurant "I'm excited, excited to leave." This was a super good and super bad experience all at once. We were a bit deceived by the name "Basil", it gave off as Italian feel. We went with it and like the decor and feel of the interior. We were seated quickly and the waiter took our drink order. We waited for his return but he apologized. We received our appetizers and waited again, this time for drinks. Here's where it gets ridiculous. I ordered squid salad (10.95) and he ordered seaweed salad (7.95). The look on my face said it all, IT WAS ONE BITE ON A PLATE!! The words "hell no" left my lips. At least our drinks arrived soon after, I needed one. We also got the steamed dumplings that were very good. I ordered the coconut soup and he ordered the spicy tuna roll. My soup was amazing with fresh veggies and tofu. His tuna roll was a bit odd with jalapeños. It was like the Mexican version of a spicy tuna roll. I'll admit... I'm a tiny bit of a food snob. When I looked around, I wasn't sure of what to expect, as the town doesn't scream diversity. This dining establishment is really nice on the inside, though, with cloth napkins and a nice decor. All I can say is, they didn't disappoint! We sat outside as we had a dog with us and our server was nice enough to bring out an extra chair for us. I have to say, all that jazz about "southern hospitality"... it's SO TRUE! Our server was the sweetest! She even complimented my friend as they were passing through the door, saying "You are SO pretty!", even though she was a beauty herself. :) When she came out with the menus, I asked what she recommended. She suggested a few of the appetizers and a few of the entrees, warning that some of them were spicy. We all ordered a shrimp curry with different sauces. I got the yellow curry at a 7, and when our server's eyes widened with alarm for me, it was clear that they don't joke with spice here. So, I downgraded to a 6 and she provided extra spices just in case I needed to add more. (I did, but it's ALWAYS better to be able to add more since you can't remove it once it's in there. I've been literally burned by this before!) Everyone enjoyed their curries and we devoured the dumplings when they arrived. Our server also gave us some water for the puppy, which he gratefully lapped up. If you are in the area and have a Thai craving, I definitely recommend this place not only for the food, but for the awesome service! read more

This was recommended by me realtor in the area and I had to stop by for lunch yesterday. The food is amazing. They offer an upscale dine in experience as well and a take out experience. I believe they also offer delivery as well. They were so accommodating and the owner was so, so nice. He came out to meet me directly, shook my hand, and express interest in my shirt because it was a shirt I purchased while visiting Oahu in February. Not only are their extremely dedicated to customer service, but they are also very, very nice. The food is also delicious, took 10 minutes to prepare, and was damn good. It came with good shrimp and chicken, and the portion was very large at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend them in beautiful downtown Brunswick for all of your Thai and dining needs. For similar items you can get at other local Thai and sushi places, Basil is about 30%-40% more expensive. Every time I've eaten at Basil and get the bill, I always feel like my food wasn't worth what I paid. Then there's discrepancies with pricing on the menu. I ordered the Tom Kha soup, which in the menu says $5.99. But when I got the bill, I was charged $8.99. Also, on the menu it said the soup had shrimp and chicken and my soup only had tofu. First off, the food here is excellent! Fried oysters were amazing! Fried perfectly, wasn't greasy, and the sweet chili sauce went perfectly with the oysters. Pad Thai was also delicious! Yeah you can get pad Thai at pretty much any Thai restaurant but I can tell you that somehow, here in Brunswick of all places, they can make it better than most. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a pad Thai this much. The green curry with pork was also a hit. The vegetables worked well with the slight sweetness of the curry. We were literally slurping off the plate at the end. The crispy flounder was also good but because of how good the rest of the meal was, it came in last. It's an outstanding dish by itself. Just not compared to the other dishes of the night. The food is again, excellent! My 3-star was because of the service. Perhaps it's because we were the last table to be seated but the service was definitely lacking. My sister and my wife both ordered a cocktail and we didn't get anything for at least 20 minutes. When the oysters came out, we asked about the drinks and they said they must've mixed it up. We didn't get any appetizer plates for the oysters. I also thought we would get bigger plates to share our entrees but that's when we got the small appetizer plates. Again, it could just be that we came in pretty late in the evening and the staff was just tired. Either way, despite the slow and lacking service, the meal was very good. I'd probably give this place a solid 3.5 stars. My husband and I shared pad thai and vegetable tofu green curry with rice. Everything was tasty and timing on the food was good; although our order was pretty easy. The service was very basic, very minimal. Based on this, I probably wouldn't recommend the spot for a special date night. If you like your Thai a little spicy, you'll have to tell your server. The spicy tuna was simply raw tuna, cucumber, seaweed, and rice with a strange drizzle of an extremely spicy sauce. I'm all for spice, however, it was much hotter than I'm used to for spicy tuna and a very peculiar way to do the roll. All in all, I'd stop by again to get some fried dumplings, but that's about it. In total I paid around 28$ pre-tip for two meh sushi rolls, a coke, some delicious dumplings, and a great waiter.
