The sushi was super expensive and not astonishing :( Our server Bryce, however, was fantastic! We got the steamed dumplings, but I asked if they could be friend and they delivered! The dumplings were a must have in my opinion! That was my favorite part for sure. The California roll was pretty standard, but the spicy tuna is where I found the meal lacking. The spicy tuna was simply raw tuna, cucumber, seaweed, and rice with a strange drizzle of an extremely spicy sauce. I'm all for spice, however, it was much hotter than I'm used to for spicy tuna and a very peculiar way to do the roll. All in all, I'd stop by again to get some fried dumplings, but that's about it. In total I paid around 28$ pre-tip for two meh sushi rolls, a coke, some delicious dumplings, and a great waiter. Trying to frame this in a way that isn't mean but this is the worst Thai restaurant I've ever eaten at... I think the people who say they like the pad Thai might never have eaten pad Thai before. It's not pad Thai- it's noodles with strange sauce with a slight pad Thai flavor. I get it it's Brunswick Georgia I shouldn't expect a Michilen star but I think the people running this business can try to be a little more authentic. I'm giving 2 stars because the sushi wasn't great but it was edible. The pad Thai is really bad. I'm glad that downtown Brunswick is getting businesses so I want this restaurant to stay in business but they really need to try harder to be an actual Thai restaurant. read more

Phenomenal spot in downtown Brunswick. I love sushi and my fiancé loves Thai, so this restaurant was the great fusion for us. The food was great and served promptly. There are 4 Thai restaurants in the SSI/Brunswick area. Basil Thai is not in my top two for Thai entrees. I can't speak to the sushi because I don't order it. When trying a Thai place for the first time, my party always gets at least one Pad Thai as a baseline. We ordered it medium spicy, and it was more like mild and quite bland. Also had a string bean dish (PPK) in a brown sauce, which was also very bland. My wife had curry - you guessed it, bland. I expect robust flavors from Thai food, and Basil Thai didn't deliver. I'm tempted to say it's "Thai food for the American pallet", but I've not had enough of the menu to state that. Thing is, I won't be returning when there are two better options - Nakorn Thai #1, and Tiptum Thai, a fairly distant second. read more

This is a very nice establishment. The ambiance is impressive, and the food quality is well above average, especially the Pad Thai. While a tad more seasoning would be nice, the food was certainly seasoned enough to make it an enjoyable culinary experience. The service was good, except for the delay in receiving one of our two meals (it is always awkward when one dinner comes out and you have to wait several minutes for the second one). The sushi was mediocre. There was very little fish or seafood in each roll, and some of the listed ingredients were not even included. Consequently, the rolls were not very flavorful. We felt we overpaid for a mediocre meal. On the other hand, the service was attentive, the room is pretty nice, and the location is great. Service was polite, but slow. The food was good. We ordered many, many sushi rolls. All of them came drenched in that sweet Brown juice that looks like soy, but tastes like syrup. Also, nearly every roll had either CREAM CHEESE, or fried something, oftentimes both. This is an epidemic of American Proportion. They have to make sushi fat, and it's a shame. I like rolls. Lady answered the phone and asked if I would hold. I said I would. She didn't put the phone on hold. I think she just laid the phone down because I could hear the rest of the conversations going on. She was checking in people arriving. She then left to sit a party. I heard another lady come around to check someone else in. She didn't seem to have their spot, and, once learning that he made the reservation online, told him that online reservations don't always come through so he should call to reserve a spot. Then someone picked up the phone and hung up on me. I called right back, someone answered, I stated I had just called and been hung up on but would like to place an order. No one responded. Again, I could hear all the conversations, but no one answered me. Not sure what's going on with this place, but I decided to try Indigo Coastal instead. Delicious AND great service! read more

This restaurant is by no means a sushi bar. My rainbow roll was drenched in sweet sauce. Same with my lobster roll. Then I ordered a hand roll. I ordered two spicy salmon hand rolls. The first roll came out like a maki roll which was rolled at an angle and they forgot the second. The first roll had no sauce on it. I would give it 2.5 stars but decided to go with 3 based solely on the sushi, atmosphere, design and customer service. The Thai food...mediocre at best! The owner is Thai so I am extremely surprised at the fact that the food is not authentic, that the jasmine rice is overcooked and more like "sticky rice," how the Pad Thai is pink, flavorless and not at all appetizing. I could go on. Massaman curry was ok but the carrots and potatoes were huge, not at all cut up or even cooked all the way. This place should stick with sushi which was good however the server didn't bring any soy sauce or the little dipping dishes, she sounded surprised when we asked for them and for chop sticks...ummm?? Really? Another thing that really turned me off was the fact that the dishes were DIRTY. Dried up oil and grease stains, absolutely unacceptable! The owner and staff felt bad so we got hot sake and drinks free, which was a nice touch but all in all, the food was what we were there for. The design and atmosphere is nice, but that's that. What a great surprise to find such a good Asian Fusion restaurant in Brunswick. My friend from CA also agreed. I always test a Thai restaurant by their Pad Thai. Their version raises the bar. Tucked in historic Brunswick, this little spot is worthy of one try for sushi aficionados. The fish is fresh and well-cut. Basil Thai and Sushi is obviously straddling a couple of cuisines, and due to the size, it may be in their best interests to pare down their scope. I drove several miles just for sushi - and while it was good, there were only about five roll selections available. Still, I didn't grade them on what they didn't have... The Spicy Tuna roll was really delicious, but the "spicy" component was a really fat dollop of sauce on top of the roll. After the first stinging bite, i was able to scrape the majority of dollops off, so maybe a 'me' problem. Wait staff were a bit confused, but it didn't blow my experience. The location is nice if you're antiquing in the historic district or headed to the causeway toward St. Simons or one of the other islands. read more

I went here for lunch and ordered the Spicy Salmon Alfredo which came with Miso Soup and a small bowl of rice. The Alfredo was delicious, the cook was not stingy with the salmon. I didn't really care for the soup. The restaurant is very laid back and has some great aesthetics. Doesn't even feel like I was in Brunswick. Drove 40 minutes to find out they had a "limited menu" that included about 3 Thai options due to lack of help - excited for the Pad Thai but that unfortunately did not make the cut - but a whole new menu of "the best Hibachi in town" (per the server) did? Wait, are we at Basil Thai or Basil Hibachi??! The Hibachi Chicken was subpar - however the fried rice, was the worst ever. It's a shame that a Thai restaurant wouldn't stick to Thai favorites such as Pad Thai - advertised on their menus everywhere. Prior to Covid this was the best Thai in town and worth a drive to - disappointed we burned gas during the great shortage on this place for frozen Steamed Dumplings. read more

My top order items are the tom kah, mango and sticky rice, and pad Thai. All of the main dishes are excellent every time I order. Last night I called them at 8:45 thinking they closed at 9:30 to place a to-go order. Once I knew they were closing at nine I told them not to worry about it but they insisted I placed my order and it wouldn't be a problem. 10 minutes later I was drinking hot soup and eating fresh, amazing sushi. Basil Thai & Sushi opened this past Wednesday on New Castle where Pearl was located. I had the Tom Kah soup which was very good. It was a limed flavored coconut milk soup with sweet shrimp richly spiced with Siamese ginger, straw mushrooms and lemons grass. It was served with snow peas and broccoli. I had the Pud Thai which was flat rice noodles served with shrimp, chicken,egg, scallions and crispy bean sprouts. The food at Basil was very tasty and we look forward to making a return visit. We had the green tea ice cream served with whip cream and strawberries. The service was a little slow but in their first week, what do you expect. read more

Update; had to come back after that awful Thai food at Tara on the island to remember why I love curry so much. Hubby had rainbow roll & dragon roll, although very very thinly sliced They were good. I asked for peanut dressing on My salad excellent. Give it a try.
