Definitely picked a bad time to try this place but nonetheless we stopped in during spring break. It was crowded, but we were able to get seated at a small table. Not sure the staffing was prepared for a busier than usual Wednesday evening. The main issue was it took forever to get our food. We ordered a couple drinks and then ordered a Wonton soup, Pad See Ew and a Sashimi combo. Although the restaurant started to thin out following the rush, the Wonton soup came out probably 45 mins into our seating. The soup was hot and tasty enough but a small bowl for $7.50. I considered ordering something else to try but held off since I wasn't sure how long that would take. We then waited again for another 15-20 minutes and actually thought about cutting our losses and just pay for the drinks and soup but just then the Pad See Ew arrived. I asked what happened to the Sashimi Combo and the server went behind the bar and returned immediately with it in his hand. We wondered how long that was sitting there. Either way the Pad See Ew was hot but honestly no spice and extraordinarily sweet. It is usually my favorite Thai dish and I always enjoy it but although not terrible, it was the worst I've had. Again, it was hot and fresh, just way too sweet and no flavor. Definitely not to my liking. I had to ask for chili sauce to give it some flavor. The Sashimi Combo was definitely a winner. Nice 10 piece portion for $22. Fresh and nice thick portions of Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, and chef's choice. I'm not sure I'd return but if you want to give it a chance, start with the Sashimi. I hate to rate this place so low but it was definitely a negative experience not sure I could shake. A nice evening out left me disappointed and my wife angry at me for complaining about the long wait and my dislike for the food. The quality restaurants on Saint Simons Island are slim so Yelp range of 5 doesn't exist very often. I'd stick with 3.0 for the food here but my experience was a bust so 2.0 this time. read more

Golf carted to Tara's for to-go dinner. Really nice place that's clean and comfortable. We were waited on right away and our order was ready in about 15 minutes. Everything was packaged well! We ordered the tofu curry, chicken cashew and a couple of seaweed salads. It was all tasty and fresh! The curry sauce was so creamy and the cashews were fresh roasted. We have always had take-out from Tara Thai. Over the years I would say we had mixed reviews. But recently we have been very happy with the meals we have taken out. The staff is very friendly and they have been much more accurate about the level of spice we request. Prompt service for take-out. read more

Sushi was mediocre, unripe avocados were served in our sushi making the texture not as great and more plastic-y. Their seaweed salad was great, pad Thai had no eggs, no peanuts, only had bean sprouts and chicken. It didn't taste like pad Thai at all so do not come here wanting Thai food. I got the sushi combo to go with the spicy salmon and 911 roll, they tasted good. I placed my order and was 10 minutes later than the scheduled pickup time. When I walked in, there were multiple servers toward the back that let me know to pick up back there. I confirmed my name and asked if I could have shrimp and soy sauce. The server, tall and blonde, went over to the sushi chef and was talking to her. I kept looking at my car because I locked the baby inside while he was sleeping. I walked over to the area of the bar they were both at and when she started walking toward the back again I said oh, I'm here (trying to save her from having to walk more to hand it to me). I guess she didn't hear me, so I met her back at the back. She tossed the bag on the bar and walked away. I asked if it was ready and someone else ended up saying it was. I felt around in the bag and didn't feel chop sticks so I went to grab a pair, no big deal, but the girl said they're already in there. I opened the bag before I left thankfully and sure enough, they weren't in there. I went back to grab the chopsticks and she was extremely rude saying I told you I put them in there. I said they weren't very calmly and was going to grab the chopsticks and she opened the bag while saying I put them on top and she looked in, saw they weren't there, and with the worst attitude just shoved the bag back at me. We appreciated all the wood work & the vibe, but the quality of food & service didn't match up. The sushi was ok, but the service was really subpar. Our server made us feel unwelcome from the time we were seated. She may been having a bad day because we got to witness her getting in a fight w/ other servers just as we were leaning. I love Thai food and was excited to check this place out during my trip to St. Simons Island. While the staff here were great, unfortunately, I can't say the same about the food. For dinner, we ordered Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew, and the Tom Yum Goong soup. The latter was overloaded with mushrooms and lemongrass, and didn't quite taste like Tom Yum Goong. Both entrees were sweet and had way too many noodles than proteins and veggies. Most of the noodles were also stuck together, and the entrees just did not taste like authentic Thai food. Second, we went back and proceeded to tell them what happened and seemed annoyed with us for coming back and having to remake it (super rude). Third, we get home and open the bag and the roll looked like it just got thrown together. I usually don't write reviews but I am writing this as constructive criticism and not to bash the establishment. The servers were very nice, friendly, and personable. The first red flag was how quickly the food came; we suspected it was microwaved due to the speed at which it came and because the inside of our rice was colder than the exterior. The noodles were also rubbery and had likely been pre-cooked, sat out, and was microwaved. My curry also looked very oily but the flavour was good as was the sushi. There was also a dead roach on the windowsill next to our table and the table was sticky and I had a good bit of my requested protein in my dish, so they didn't skimp on that. We didn't notice the roach until we were walking out. I don't know if I would return just due to hygiene concerns, but if those things were attended to then this place definitely has potential. read more

Great Asian fusion restaurant on Saint Simons Island. This place has just about everything Thai and many types of sushi that you can think of. I was pleasantly surprised by the way they managed to keep both separate genres of food good and fairly authentic. As far as the Thai food goes, the masaman beef curry and pad Thai dish were great, and the crispy duck was very deliciousn! If you like duck, try that! The rolls were pretty good. Pretty good! 911 roll was awesome but was room temp (not a big deal to me but some might be weird about it). Pad Thai wasn't the best but not too shabby. My mom had the drunken noodle which she said was great and we shared a mango sticky rice which was awesome! The didnt have corona or miller lite which is weird but got a blue moon. My friend and I ate at Tara Thai last night to fulfill our sushi cravings, and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We met one of the co-owners, and he was very attentive and extremely engaging in conversation (though my friend later told me she wished the conversation part was turned down a notch). The indoor ambiance was very classy and well decorated with a fireplace that I wish had been lit. They do have a full bar with a limited selection of beer as well as a variety of wines and cocktails. - Chicken satay: Four large chicken skewers with amazing peanut sauce - Red Dragon Roll: If you're a tuna fan, get this! Great sushi (we got the Ebi roll, lobster roll, and Crispy Shrimp roll) all around but the ebi roll was definitely the best. We also got the salad with an incredible ginger dressing. It was really good all around, and there are definitely different things we'd love to go back and try-- we'd 100% get the ebi roll again. The staff was nice and we couldn't really tell how they're handling covid (limiting capacity, sanitation, etc.) because we were there for a 2 o'clock lunch. I was visiting here from Florida and I saw so many good reviews for this place, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the avocado rolls and was very disappointed. The avocados were not ripe and were hard and I had to throw away 6 of the 8 pieces. I also ordered the caterpillar roll. It was just ok. I also ordered the Thai basil shrimp fried rice. I want to give this place a more positive review. Food looks great on the menu, and wait staff is very apologetic. But it's been an hour and a half since we place a Togo order, and it's still not ready. Two minutes after I typed that, food showed up. We finally made it home to eat, and it's really good.
